Charming Hotel

"We stayed at the Sirius for two weeks 7 nights of which were half board. It was our fourth visit to Taormina and we were not disappointed. The staff are very helpful and friendly, as were the owners who always made a point of greeting us. Breakfast was more than adequate (if you want a fry up, stay clear of Italy!), cold hams, eggs, fruit cereals cheese and cakes. The evening meal was again good, decent size portions and good well cooked produce.

Views from the hotel are stunning and it is a ten minute walk (uphill) to the town centre. The cable car is a few minutes walk away from the entrance. There are two Lido's on the beach you can use which are both inexpensive for the usual umbrella and two loungers. Both are available with free pick up and return from the hotel (Paradiso 12.5 euros pp and the Tropicana 8 euros pp).

We had room 119 which has a massive veranda overlooking the pool and the sea, beautiful!

Only downside would be the size of the bathroom (very small) and even though this was our fourth visit to Taormina we still ended up shocked at what the cost of eating out is in the town. We spent 3 euros each return to go down to Giardini Naxos and ate for half the price and with better quality. It seems to me that taormina has priced itself for cruise ship stop off's and Russian holidaymakers!!

Booked for next year, but in Giardini!

great locaton

"What a superb location this hotel has - overlooking the sea to the north and east with Italy in the distance ... near the bus station (access to bus to /from Catania airport, cost 5 euros), 10 minutes slow stroll to shops, bars, restaurants, 2 minutes walk to funicular (access to beach) ....

We took notice of other Tripadvisors words about this hotel and upgraded to a junior suite, again with lovely views from our balcony. The hotel is very clean and the staff friendly. Breakfast was rolls (very fresh but crusty, unlike thouse found by an earlier reviewer), boiled eggs, ham, cheese, cereal etc etc ... perfectly adequate.

Swimming pool was lovely and the bar next to it always staffed with the helpful pool man, who will do salads and toasted sandwiches. We did not dine in the hotel as there are so many good restaurants within easy ealking reach.

Very enjoyable stay

"This hotel has a fantastic location, with beautiful views. We visited at the end of May, 2006. It is ideally placed with a ten-minute walk (up a very steep hill) into the old part of Taormina. It is also very close to the lift down to Taormina's lovely beach and there are lots of restaurants close by. The bus station is two minutes' walk away. We stayed B&B, so can't comment on the food (breakfast is pretty standard), but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were extremely welcoming - nothing was too much trouble for them and the porter wouldn't even take a tip for taking our luggage in the car to the bus station. The pool area is great (good-sized, deep pool and lots of umbrellas) with a little cafe. There are lots of steps and slopes on the approach, but this is hard to avoid in Taormina."

Great Hotel the Hotel Sirius

"My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Sirius for two nights in early May 2006. The location was great. The hotel sits on a hillside over looking the sea with an unobstructed view from the hotel pool, restaurant and several of the rooms. Our room had a nice little balcony with an angled view of the sea and was spotless.

Taormina is very "touristy" but worth a visit and one of the cleaner spots in Sicily. The hotel is an easy walk to the city center yet in a quiet localtion. Parking was available for a small fee, well worth it in Taormina.

The restaurant had a good "Germanic" breakfast...rolls, cheese, hard boiled eggs, coffe etc. We had diner one night which was good as far as a fixed menu with choices. The wines were good and reasonably priced.

We found a nice restaurant very close to the hotel, TRATTORIA DA NINO. The staff was friendly and the food very good and reasonable.

We booked through [------------] and got a good price considering the quality of the location, restaurant and hotel.

The best holiday yet

"We stayed at the hotel over Xmas and New Year. The staff were polite friendly and very efficient. We found this friendliness everywhere and some fabulous places to eat. Among the best was Anforna if you are a fish lover then this is not to be missed. and for the best Pizza then walk out of the hotel right towards the town centre and the Pizza house on the left by the arch should never be missed. The hotel was very clean and breakfast plentiful so long as you are used to full continental. The slope in & out of the hotel is steep but ok (How do you avoid a slope with the hotel built into a hillside?) I am totally unfit and had no problems with the slope neither did another quite disabled gentleman who staying at the hotel either. The view from our room was stunning as it was from the balcony although I did find a couple of the rooms that may not have been quite so lucky but these were minimal and from what I gatehered only used as a last resort when the hotel was extremely busy. My wife and I have promised a number of the local friends that we have made during our visit to return again in 2007. We would go before but my requirement for major surgery prevents it. All I can say is WOW!!! what a holiday and Anforna can be found up some steps off the right of the main street through the town. Look for it and you won't be dissappointed by the meal or the price and friendliness of the family that own it."

Not worth the money

"We chose the Sirius partly based on tripadvisor comments, together with the 'small and friendly' advice of Thomson....BIG MISTAKE! It is clear that the Sirius has gone 'downhill' since last year, if comments were correct then, and reading the last 4 comments sums up my feelings, but too late for us. We are amazed that no-one (until the last few comments) has menioned an extremely steep driveway to gain access to the Sirius, this hill is hell going up or down...ladies forget your heels! This is BEFORE another ten minute walk up a steep hill to Taormina. Therefore in my opinion the Sirius is not in a good position. We are able bodied and fit but this hill is torture. Food terrible, certainly NOT 3 star...breakfast dry bread, cold boiled eggs, watered down fruit juice. Dinner veal, veal and oh yes veal! followed by anything out of a tin or packet for dessert, very little fresh food. Constantly had to ask for an apple to go with cheese as the bread roll left over from breakfast was not edible. We went out to eat many nights. Like most towns in the world there are expensive and cheaper restaurants. There are PLENTY of reasonably priced restaurants serving tasty food. We had a good view but paid a premium to Thomson for this. Many rooms have no view at all other than a side wall so be warned! As Taormina is built on the hillside then most, if not all hotels offer views. Yes, the barking dogs continue ALL NIGHT plus it was our misfortune to have a 'snorer' next door, I agree walls are paper thin. Pool freezing and not usable, pool bar ran out of basics like cheese and water. Hotel spotlessy clean and staff helpful .....didn't bother with the manager as clearly it was no use. Clean rooms and nice staff do not warrant 3 stars and the price though. Many other people we met said their hotels had good food. The bar was never open and staff looked amazed when we asked for someone to serve us a drink. Other than a clean bedroom with views (paid extra for) there is nothing positive to say about this hotel which is too highly priced for few facilities. We are very disappointed with this hotel and frankly did not make for a great holiday. As a final note, as we were there on the last fortnight of a so called package holiday with Thomson and therefore the end of the season readers might be interested to know that the evening meal posted on the board (for the meal AFTER we left) looked to be a 5 star gourmet dinner, clearly revealing that the food served during our stay was for the 'tourist set' but then who else visits Taormina! Don't waste your money on this hotel."

Starving but eventually a nice room

"This hotel is beautifully located. Half Board Selected-a

big Mistake.

Accommodation can be either a total disaster with

respect to noise and views, or beautiful. We experienced

both, although it took 2 days of complaining to have

a reluctant move.

Food is a poor bland experience. Breakfast has little

choice, no variation and poor quality of foods ie no

fruit, very hard bread. Quantity of 1 sliced ham, 1 cheese

slice---but could run out if not quick.

Supper Selection made at Breakfast. Repetitive bland

food--"minnow' portions, badly cooked. If you have a

special diet ie Vegetarian--forget about it.

Sample--3 lettuce leaves, 1 chopped tomatoe, 1 slice of

cheese chopped in thin sices, 5 olives. This dish was taken to the Manager as an example and was met with"What is your Problem, everyone is complaining".

Hotel Manager very arrogant and intimidating.

Tour operators Thompson(UK) and Tui (german) both were informed by other guests, but it did not change. We did give up on evening meal and found local Food Places which were good.

Taromina interesting, but expensive.

Tours expensive, but local transport cheap.

Car Hire from Economy Car Hire Ltd,UK excellent.

Spoilt Holiday

"After reading your reviews on the Sirius Hotel Taormina we desided to stay there for two weeks, big mistake, the hotel is only two minutes from the coach station which is very handy, it is down a steep drive and then about twenty steps to the reception not very handy with suitcases and no one to help no porter to take the cases to the room, if you are elderly have any disability or have children then this is not the place for you. We arrived at 2.30 but had to wait till 5pm for the room to be ready we waited at the pool bar the pool and the view from there was very nice. The views are amazing if you can see them, we booked half board a room with a sea view and balcony which turned out to be a very small balcony overlooking a wall and the rooms opposite the view was of the steps to the swimming pool and the house next door to the hotel which had a dog barking day and night. We asked to be moved the staff were very arrogant and not at all helpfull all they said was that they were full and we could not be moved, the room was small not much room for clothes, the plaster was coming off the wall in the bedroom and there was mould in the bathroom, the shower leaked, you could not get out if someone was at the sink, you could also hear every noise from other rooms. For our first meal in the dining room we were sat at a table near to the refrigerators which blew warm air onto our feet and we were cramped in, my husband asked to sit at another table but we were told we could not be moved, we had starters then waited for dinner, my husband had finished his before mine arrived the deserts were very poor some nights all you got was a peach on a plate not even peeled, the food is bland and very repetertiveand the breakfast is the same every day no hot breakfast at all not even toast just bread that you could break your teeth on there is no fresh fruit.

Taormina itself is very nice and intersesting with stunning views, if you want to go sight seeing on your holiday you have to book coach trips and be prepared to leave the coach station anywhere between 6am and 8am and not get back untill 8pm travel for hours on the coach, not our idea of a holiday.

We made a big mistake booking this hotel, if your idea of a holiday is good hotel with comfortable room with good views and good food then dont go to the Sirius Hotel. We have been to lots of places in mainland Italy which are far better than Sicily and the people are much more friendly.

We only stayed in the hotel for 1 week we changed our flights home, our holiday was spoilt by incorrect information.

box room

"sicily sirius hotel date 3rd september 05 i travelled with a couple so got a single room, which was a big letdown the room was extremely small it had a small terrace but not much outlook. the hotel is lovely and has beautiful views of the bays and calabrian coast. As i was charged a supplement for the room also, i would not travel under these cicumstances again. We still had a wonderful time, but also thought the food was very average at the hotel had half board. the local eating establishments are better food. and welcoming staff"

"We stayed in the Sirius Hotel at the beginning of August 2005, although the hotel offers an excellent location being both close to the cable car and easy walking distance to the Corso Umberto, I would not recommend staying at this hotel. The noise from adjoining rooms carries through the air conditioning system, maybe we were unlucky with noisey neighbours, but the excessive noise meant we asked to move to another hotel. However once we discovered ear plugs it became more bearable. The food was also not what i expected for an Italian Hotel, hence we ate out most evenings which was much preferable to eating in the hotel and not too expensive.

The pool was pleasant with an amazing view, our room overlooked the pool and also had an excellent sea view. The staff on a whole were arrogant, the hotel manager who manned the reception excelling himself in the art of ignorance, this may however just be the Sicilian way.

I would not recommend staying at the Hotel Sirius unless you are hard of hearing and are on a diet. There are plenty of other Hotels to choose from, I would suggest you do that.

Taormina is a very beautiful place but very busy in August.

Excellent Hotel

"Two minutes walk from the bus terminal, 5 mins from the city centre, close to cable car for the beach and an amazing view from the terrace or from the balconies of many rooms.

The staff was very friendly and speak fluent english, and was very helpful with bookings and advice.

The hotel is decorated more like a country home than a hotel. The hotel was extremely quiet, and the views of the coastline at night was breathtaking.

The view from the dinner or breakfast room was gorgeous. The breakfast was plentiful, the only small drawback was the lack of fresh fruits and the weak coffee. Most of the rooms give way for a beautiful view of the beach and coastline. Rooms on the level one have no views and don't get much sunshine, hence the possible mildew formation on the walls.

The lobby is on level 5 and the rooms are on the lower levels. The staff was very helpful in moving our luggage from the lobby to street level, as there is a steep descent from street level to the hotel. The rooms were of a good size, and the beds comfortable.

Highly recommended and will return next time.

Beautiful location, however not for...

"Beautiful location, however not for the less mobile as a very steep slope to negotiate.

Food was poor and it appears if you are British you are put at the back of restaurant with no view and you have to share you table!!

We booked a sea view room, although I have no complaints about the room in fact it was very spacious, the balcony was very small and we had a side sea view, again all best view rooms appear to be allocated to other nationalities.

There is a wonderful bar area with terrace overlooking cable car and sea views, all extras and drinks are charged to your room, payable at end of holiday.

The town of Taormina is beautiful, I would not hesitate to return to this town again, sit in the town square of an evening and watch Etna smouldering (magical)
