Aug 2010, would not reccomend

I booked me and my autistic son into this hotel for a week, however found myself there for only a couple of hours as the place was revolting.I signed us out that night and did not recieve a refund. I was furious as i had paid us to be there for the week and we didnt even stop there one night. I was promised a happy and clean environment however i found myself in a scruffy, unwelcoming environment. First of all the bathroom and toilet was discusting and looked as though it hadnt been cleaned for a very long time. The headboard on the beds were full of grease and dirt off others sleeping there before us. The bedding was damp and smelt of stife. There was a double bed and a single bed cramped in the same room with no space to walk. The television was VERY old fashioned, with a coathanger keeping up the airel. We found it very hard to get in and out of the room as the dampness of the room was swelling the door, making it stick. This is a very dangerous fire hazard. The carpets on the floor were worn and threadbear and dirty. 5 minutes of looking around the accomadation was ENOUGH for me to get out of there as soon as possible. I traveled for 4 hours to get the this hotel so my self and my son were tired and irratable. I was expecting to come to a welcoming hotel where i was able to relax. As i departed the room to speak to the manager, i asked for a cleaner room but the manager told me that there was none available. I could not have allowed my self and my son to stay in such a terrible hotel so i left the same night. The manager told me that she wouldnt re-enburst me anything as i had already payed for the room. I had to go and look for another hotel as we were very tired at the time. My holiday has been completly spoiled by this hotel AND the manager. I am now 380pounds down which is a complete waste of money. My holiday has been totally spoiled and i would advise anyone that is thinking of booking into this hotel to stay well clear and go somewhere else. Me and my autistic sons holiday was completly ruined. Anyone else experienced the same problems?

I've stayed at this hotel twice now,...

Jan 2008, Mr J Elsom

I've stayed at this hotel twice now, once on a job interview (many years ago), and more recently on a long weekend in Edinburgh.
Indeed my first visit here introduced me to the concept of the munchkins that turn down the beds when you're not watching, leave slippers out for you, and so forth. When I walked in I wondered whether or not I had walked into someone else's room! How little did I know at the time.
Anyhow, my second and most recent visit was indeed a very pleasant one. Staff were courteous, and the room was of a great standard once again. You really are right in the middle of it in Edinburgh, indeed, the address of this one is No.1 Princes Street, and to your left just a short walk down the road is Jenners department store, the Scott monument, which is well worth the climb, and a great museum.
Not to mention the Waverley shopping centre, and the rail station is within spitting distance.
One word of warning, it's quite expensive, and it's quite a trek to the castle by foot. But you're likely to spot some famous people.... I’m pretty sure it was Graham Souness I bumped into on one of my visits.

A group of us went to this hotel to...

Jan 2008, Mr I Marshall

A group of us went to this hotel to celebrate a 40th. This is a really special hotel. Old World style. If you like the finest and the best, this is the hotel for you! Excellent service and next to the station so there is no need for a car.
The hotel lobby is elegant as is the bar. The staff were very accommodating and the room service was good. Our room had a castle view and was clean and comfortable and elegantly furnished.
I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Edinburgh because of its traditional character and excellent location.
