Oh dear!

At last minute we booked a one night stay which had the advantage of a very healthy discount on rack rate. It was just as well as the hotel is overpriced and does not feature highly in either customer service or facilities. The breakfast service in particular was poor and m Fawlty Toweresque. We ordered two Scottish breakfasts but the meals were served 15 minutes apart even though the breakfast room was not busy. The staff wrangling in the kitchen were in full earshot of fellow diners. Note: they don't do evening meals! Nice rooms with comfortable beds but overall save your money.
Absolutely loved the Glasshouse

My boyfriend took me away for the weekend, in which we stayed at The Glasshouse hotel. Absolutely fab. Gorgeous hotel, beautiful rooms, wonderful staff and lovely breakfast. My boyfriend previously told the staff members that he was planning a romantic weekend and without his knowledge they placed rose petals all over the room, bed and bathroom. Room was stunning. Thank you. Perfect weekend and of course I said YES when he proposed...

We spent a wonderful three day honeymoon here and I can honestly say it was worth every penny. The location is just great (next to the Omni centre and the Edinburgh Playhouse) and the staff were always courteous. We had a great suite with a huge balcony overlooking the city. The beds are massive and the bathroom (with lots of Aveda goodies in there) was fab (loved the underfllor heating!). Luxurious but not uncomfortable or stuffy. Will return again one day.
Beds to die for

After reading the reviews on this site, I must say that I was really looking forward to staying at the Glasshouse. I was a little disappointed but perhaps that was because my expectations were too high. The first let down was that there was no gym. They do offer you discounted entry to the gym in the Omini centre beside the hotel but it costs £12.50 a head which I think is a bit steep. For a five start hotel, I would expect it to have leisure facilities. Next bad point was the parking, the hotel does not have it's own car park so you have to park at the nearby NCP car park which although it isn't far, is still a hassle carrying your bags from the car. The rooms are modern but have strange pictures of naked women dotted around them! They are also quite small and although I like the idea of a walk in shower, I think the bathroom was too small for this. We couldn't eat the complimentary fruit as the room was so warm, the fruit had gone off. On the plus side, all rooms look out onto the roof top garden which is very nice. Staff are all very friendly and polite. Breakfast was good too. The beds are also amazing, so comortable. For a five start hotel however, I was disappointed. For the money, I would much rather spent a night at the Scotsman hotel in Edinburgh. The Scotsman is much nicer and has leisure facilities onsite.

I have just returned from a Valentine's trip to the Glasshouse and I had a wonderful time. I booked the Valentines package that I have to say it was excellent! Rose petals on the bed, Champagne on ice and my beautiful girlfriend. What more can a man ask for??? Will definitely be coming back!
Nice Hotel

The Glasshouse is a contempoary hotel with a good loaction. The rooms are modern and spacious by city centre standards. Our room had an LCD tv and CD player. We only ate at the hotel for breakfast and this was good. They have a small bar which has a really cool fire place. Service was mixed, a few of the staff were not co-operative when asked questions, not what you expect from a hotel of this quality. Also our room was quite a walk from the lifts, so when you arrive ask for a room near the lifts! Despite these let downs I think overall this is a good hotel and would stay here again.
Glass House is just perfect!

We stayed at the Glass House during the Hogmanay festival in 2003-04. It was absolutely incredible! We had one of the corner suites, very impressive room...and the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, even better than the beds at Four Seasons. Just amazing! I'd love to visit again in the summer so we could actually use our balcony for more than ice skating! Even the food in the restaurant downstairs was tasty...rare for Scotland. One more thing, the hotel is within walking distance of everything in Edinburgh...just off the main strip, but close enough.
Loved Edinburgh and the Glasshouse!

I stayed at the Glasshouse on the 18th of December and had a superb time! The Staff were very friendly and professional and the Hotel was of the highest quality. I was very suprised with the size of the roof terrace! Edinburgh is a beautifull city and I would recomend it for a short break. I wil definetly come back next Year. :-)

We stayed at the Glasshouse for two nights in early December and it definitely did not disappoint. It's discreet and luxurious with oh-so-comfortable beds. The decor is modern and stunning. The location is great, the staff attentive. Marvellous! We'll stay there again the next time we're in Edinburgh.
best thing was the beds

The first thing that we were given on arrival was a loyalty card - 'so we wouldn't have to book through an agency next time'. The rooms are on the third floor and along some v long corridors. In our room the light on the etched glass cupboard flashed on and off as the door wouldn't shut properly and the air con was really invasive. I phoned reception and the porter came up and said that he would get some tape to fix the catch on the now strobe light. As this had taken twenty minutes and it was getting late I asked for another room. This was much quieter and without the flashing lights. We were told that we had had an upgrade - at no extra charge - I reckoned that we'd gained two square meters. I ran a bath and the water was brown - the duty manager called - I mentioned the water which was the same for hot and cold was told in no uncertain terms that it was the same colour throughout Edinburgh. I did check this with lots of people during our stay and it certainly isn't. Also the shower seemed to have no thermostat and would vary between scorching hot and freezing cold. The night before we checked out I asked if we could keep the room as we had a late flight back (there was a total of twenty seven people staying) - I was told that we could have a complimentary check out at 1pm after that it was £50 per hour. We went out every day for breakfast - we now find that it was included -nobody told us. The best thing about the hotel was the beds they were fantastic.
The hotel is very comfortable and the staff very attentive - but the Hotel is situated in very close proximity to a number of night clubs. Accordingly, if you value a good nights sleep - stay elsewhere.
