End of Season Holiday Bliss!

My wife & I were looking for an inexpensive holiday and found the Montebello Hotel through Goldtrail on the web.
Having poor experiences in Malta last year, we were hoping for the best, to be honest... but this holiday went well beyond our expectations!
The worst part about it was definitely the flight out: we had a night flight to Turkey and arrived at about 6AM, local time. The reception staff were very friendly and efficient and quickly got us to our room, for some much-needed sleep.
Waking up about 3.5 hours later, I was pleasantly surprised by the breakfast. Plenty of choice and help yourself, the staff even let me grab a couple of coffees for my nearly-conscious other half...
Our room was not big, but we only need somewhere to put our cases; cleaning facilities and maybe a TV, all of which were present, so that was fine.
All the staff we spoke to spoke English, to a decent standard - I'm usually OK with foreign languages, but Turkish is NOT an easy language to speak, as far as I can tell (I bought a phrase book, just in case - it was totally redundant throughout our stay!)
The room, shower and linen were all well kept each day - the cleaners, like all staff at the Montebello, were very efficient and friendly.
The hotel location is good: everywhere within easy reach on foot but far enough out of the centre of town to avoid too many revellers. With tha said, some people might get bothered by traffic noise from the main road (our room was nearest the road) and/or by the early morning calls to prayer from the nearby mosque - as we'd been to Egypt and Morocco previously, we knew what to expect and at least it was tuneful!
The pool area was kept clean and tidy, while the view of the hillsides, covered in trees, was truly beautiful - we had no oblems in getting sun loungers when we wanted to (but we did go late in the season).
We used the restaurant every morning for breakfast, also "eating in" a couple of times. The food was very tasty, vegetables very fresh and beautifully cooked - we are both vegetarians, so this was particularly important to us!
The waiters and bar staff were all very helpful, friendly and efficient (can you see a theme developing?).
We did several excursions, all through Easy Riders, who were very good - be warned, there are LOADS of agencies, all booking the same trips, so shop around!
The bars? We tried the Sun Cafe and Help Beach Bar, both of which were relaxed and friendly - more expensive than some, but the food was good...
All in all, considering how little the holiday cost us, we were amazed at how good this hotel is - I've read some of the other reviews here and have borne these in mind whilst writing this review.
I know this review appears too good to be true, but I can only write from what we experienced. The truth is that we loved our stay and we are already looking to book up again for 2009. We have only been back 2 days!

Lovely, clean hotel. Very friendly staff. October great time to go because not too busy but temperature warm but not baking. Short walk to beach on slight incline. Our room was next to main road so you may prefer to request one which isn't. Panoramic mountains. Nice pool and great food. Recommended trips: Boat trip to Dalyan (inc. mud bath), Saklikent Gorge, Island boat trip, Jeep Safari. Definitely going back next year to do Ephesus and Pammukale 2 day trip (may try quad biking also!). Paragliding is good value and an enormous buzz. Beaches are nice too (pebbly though). Highly recommended.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at The Montebello Hotel in Olu Deniz. This was our 3rd trip to Oluz Deniz, previously we had stayed at the Turk Hotel, but were unable to book there on this occasion. The Montebello is another typical Turkish hotel, clean and everything you need for a basic stay. it is only a 5 minute walk from the centre and not steep at all. The pool area was excellent and we could say probably one of the best in the area, and we had no trouble getting a sunbed throughout our stay. We found the bar area had no real atmosphere and had they operated happy hour from 6.30pm rather than 7.30pm they would have been much busier as I am sure that most people would have stopped to have a drink or two before going out for their evening meal. We had many lunches at the poolside restaurant and these were all excellent and good value for money-about £4 for a kebab with homemade chips and salad-delicious. We had one meal there in the evening, the meal was lovely but for some reason there never seemed to be many people eating there and there seemed to be too may staff hanging around (on occasions 6 waiters and only 10 people dining) so we felt that the waiters were hovering and taking every plate away as soon as you had finished rather than waiting for the whole table to finish, this would have annoyed us had we been on a half board basis!. All the staff were very friendly -sometimes the younger ones played the bar music a bit loud, but all in all we had no complaints. The maids were particularly friendly and did an excellent job in keeping the rooms clean, our air conditioning was excellent-we took a travel kettle and didn't bother with a fridge-you couldn't take food into your room and water was only 75p for a 1.5 litre bottle at the hotel-50p at the 1st shop so wasnt worth paying £10 a week for. The cake man comes round the pool, at 4-4.15pm lovely cake and english tea £2.50, well worth a try. If you have booked the Montebello Hotel, you wil not be disappointed, at the end of the day you get what you pay for.

Arrived in the mid afternoon heat and the hotel staff couldn't help more to get our luggage to our room as quickly as possible. The usual Thomas Cook problems when we arrived though, we booked a double bed room as advertised in the brochure but when arrived we were told it was a twin, problem sorted though with very helpful guy on reception and double room duly given to us. Pool area is small but comfortable, sunbeds usually reserved by 8 o'clock even though the big notice board says you can't. The poolside bar manager Jonte (Ilker) and Torres are extremely helpful and will go out of their way if needs be. Beer is about 3 Lira per pint so quite cheap. If you need to change sterling to lira then probably best to do it at one of the many shops etc as the hotel rate was considerably worse than everywhere else. Hotel restaurant is lovely even though we didn't eat there in the evening, breakfast is served there between 8 and 10, it's the usual Turkish breakie although you can order your english options from the menu at a charge. Maid service is ok but beware on your last day as the 'bigger' of the maids we had chased us on the last day a few time giving us kisses and hugs, obviously after her tip but the way she went about it was a bit out of order Olu Deniz is a beautiful resort, plenty of sunbeds available on the beach but beware though if you are travelling with a family. The cost of a sunbed is 5.50 Turkish Lira and it's the same for a umbrella, so in total for me and my fiance it was 16.50 Lira a day (£8.50 ish). Times that by 7 or 14 days and it adds up dramatically. The prices for eating out in Olu are far more expensive than previous holidays to Turkey, more like home now and probably more expensive. Beer and fags are still cheap so if you fancy drinking and smoking yourself to death ......... crack on !! Go visit the Buzz Beach Bar, lovely setting and great food and if you get chance go to the 'Talk of the Town' show, very funny and well worthwhile. Book any boat trips etc with the local vendors rather than your rep as they are just as good but much cheaper Prices in Fethiye and Hisaronu nearby are much cheaper if you can be bothered to go. The vendors on the beachfront shops hike their prices up something rotten for gifts etc so it worthwhile shopping a little further into the town. The little market area that sells the jewellery is well worth a visit, the silver rings and necklaces are well worth it and sold by the weight of the silver rather than what the item is. My partner and me in fact bought a couple and it works out at between 12 and 20 pounds. We went to the Blue Lagoon once! The main beach was far nicer to be honest, the walk down to the lagoon was very tiring, it was very difficult getting into the sea and the cafe staff were very rude ........ but you still have to go see it anyway don't you ? Overall we had a fantasic time, I love Turkey, no complaints about the hotel, Olu is beautiful and would go back tomorrow if i had the chance, eating out is very expensive and beware paying for sunbeds etc on the beach as it all adds up!!!

Basic, but what do you expect for a three star hotel! Rooms were cleaned everyday and staff were very friendly and helpful.
Food was excellent and very good value for money.
Drinks were slightly expensive, but no more than Spain or Greece.
Highligh of the week was the BBQ night with hip hop dancers and a belly dancer. I can honestly say I've never laughed as much!
Resort was small and geared towards families and couples.
Great choice if you want to chill out, visit the beach and have a quiet night with a cocktail. Would deffinately go again!

Arrived back from Turkey monday night, well what can I say, fantastic holiday, read previous comment, not sure what they are usually used to on holiday, but all the staff worked so hard, the bar staff would all start about 6.30-7am till 2am following morning, they were stood about during the day, but that is because they had to stay on site all day, as soon as we would go for dinner the minute we sat down we had a menu in our hand and the staff were asking what we wanted to drink, you cant get better then that, on hand all the time. The maids and maintenance man also worked very hard, from about 8am till 6-7pm, clean room everyday, clean towels everyday, and clean bedding every day if needed every other if not. Rooms quite small but come on how long do you spend in your room other then sleeping and showering and changing. The swimming pool was big enough for the complex, the apartments were all full and the pool was never over croweded, also there were lilo's and rings that people leave for everyone to share. overall stay in montebello was great, staff would bend over backwoods to make you happy, as for them partying with the holiday makers why not, what we fail to remember is that they work solid from april, right through till the end of october, us british are so ignorient sometimes, you wouldnt get the service you get there here.
We didn't do any trips other then water park in ovacik, had a good day.
We booked and changed our money in activities at the top of olu deniz , very helpful.
hope you all read this and enjoy your stay there as muc h as we did.
I have put a picture of the pool on here.

This review may come as a bit of a surprise after reading some of the other reviews. There were 7 of us in our party. The hotel location was fine and the facilities were good, perhaps a slightly larger pool would have been better but over all basic but clean rooms and fairly clean grounds. The maids and maintenance man seemed to work the hardest while the bar staff who also handled the restaurant orders stood about with not much to do. The 2 key members of staff from this section seemed to every day be recovering after taking single female guests out all night partying which in theory is not a problem as they are young, but is a problem when other guests the next day get the brunt of their ill mannered behavouir and cock-ups through out the holiday. Three times our children were short changed which was not funny when the hotel prices were so expensive. Ordered food was being forgotton, along with free drinks on a special menu meal.
We worked very hard to get this holiday and felt ripped off when we got back to England.
This was our first stay in Turkey. The country is lovely, lots to see but all of us would not recommened this hotel to anyone its a shame it spoilt it.

arrived early morning, after a very long journey, shown to our rooms, then we were brought english tea that we really enjoyed.staff very friendly.Rooms small but clean, and you didnt have to pay for the air con.My only problem was the bar had only one nights entertainment, and the drink was very exspensive, and during the happy hour you could not get another drink untill you had finished the one you had. This was our third time to stay at this hotel, they would need to drop their prices,to expensive otherwise you would enjoy

The hotel is very welcoming, if you arrive in the early hours of the morning the staff show you directly to your room. I thought that the room was small and as a couple was expecting a double bed but we had two singles, too tired to argue we never bothered and we pushed the beds together!
HOTEL very clean, maids excellent and came in everyday, had no problems with the cleanliness etc.
I always found an empty sunbed, even ay 10am! the views are terrific and the weather was hot hot hot..
Air con is a must but no fridge although you can hire one.
FOOD was good but very expensive as were the drinks but there was a happy hour, if they reduced the prices then we would have stayed in the hotel a lot more.
STAFF very nice, could not do enough for you, always said hello.
OLU DENIZ fantastic resort, great bars and beach, Buzz bar is one of the best and its on the beach. Cousins bar, were we ate a lot in was the best, as were the magic garden.
Overall the holday was good and will be going again, met some lovely friends and had the best time chilling out although don't expect this resort to be quiet like I did!
I have give the rating 9/10 because the prices are a bit steep which is a shame as would have liked to have spent more time at the hotel.

We arrived tired in the early hours of the morning to be greeted by a very helpful and friendly receptionist (sorry I cant spell your name!) who welcomed us and took us straight to our rooms and carried our luggage. Rooms very clean and quite modern with good storage space and an excellent shower. Beds comfortable but air con can be a bit on the chilly side (but not complaining as it was free!) Took our mothers with us and it was ideal for them though a bit quiet in the evening for us (though ideal if you just want to chill). Pool area good with water volleyball. Very good breakfast served (bread, toast eggs, cheeses, salami, tomatoes olives cereal yoghurt etc) in the hotels olive tree restaurant. Food in the evening good here but a bit on the expensive side compared with some other eateries. The waiters were very friendly to start with (sometimes a bit over the top) but as our holiday drew to a close got a bit cheeky asking for drinks tips water guns. On our last night they had the cheek to get a glass and start drinking our water (which we bought)Im not mean but once is ok but to keep doing it is beyond a joke especially when you say We are drinking that and they reply you can always buy another bottle! I would return to this hotel and would recommend it especially if you are a little older but would look for other places to eat in the evenings. If you only do one trip while you are there do the jeep safari. Our pensioner mothers (we had age group from 15 to 66 years) didnt want to do it but we got them to go and they had a fantastic time, said it was the best trip of the holiday and we done five trips! They got wet, dirty and acted like 5 year olds!!

Firstly, I'd like to say we enjoyed our family holiday in the Montebello. There were positive aspects and negative aspects. I'll start with the positive. The hotel was very very clean and our cleaners were lovely. And our rooms were kept spotless. We even had lovely flower displays with our towels most days! Also it was great having free air conditioning! However, we felt the rooms were rather small and the balcony was a joke. There was no way the two of us let alone the three of us could sit out there. Unfortunately, what spoilt the holiday mostly although it was only at the end was we had a rat in our room for two nights! I could understand how the rat got in as we left a watermelon on the balcony and thats probably why it made its way to our room however the receptionist attitude was very upsetting. They were unable to find it and suggested that 'my husband is a big man Im sure he could catch it!' which upset me alot. I did make a complaint to the rep following his remark. Fortunately my husband saw it climbing up the curtains and guessed it was trying to find its way out so opened the back door and that's how we managed to get rid of it. But I missed a nights sleep on the first rat night and on the second I slept in my friends room. Not ideal. I suppose this is my main reason for rating it 7/10. I also felt the drinks were ridiculously priced in the hotel. Overall, I found the resort very expensive and had changed dramatically since I last had been there 6 years ago. Other than this its still a very beautiful resort and the Turkish are mainly very friendly and lovely.

We stayed at the Montebello for a week and i can honestly say that the hotel surpassed all our expectations. Although towards the back of the resort of Olu Deniz it was the perfect location from the bars and the beach only 5mins walk, and 5mins on a bus to Hirosanu.
The rooms were very clean and had everything that we needed, the maids were excellent and cleaned our room everyday well worth the stay if just for that reason. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough to help us especially on reception.
If we were to go back to Olu Deniz we will be be staying at the Montebello.
