Primasol Albatros Resort Hotel Reviews
" We had a great time at the Primasol... "
Submitted By: Mrs Y KershawYou can use the facilities in all three of these hotels, although you can have your main meal only in your own hotel.
We went with Med hotels and they were rubbish, the Rep was Egyptian, and although nice was not what you would expect. They also did not book our return transfer; we would not go with them again.
The Primasol Albatros Resort Hotel is great for families; our children are seven, four and three. It is a mostly German hotel! We did not know this when we booked.
It was actually quite refreshing not to have many loud English people by the pool. There were many Russians too, English are in the minority, but don’t let this put you off.
All the staff were very friendly; at reception they all had good English. They were very friendly to our children.
Our room was huge with two bedrooms, lounge with TV, and kitchen with fridge and bathroom with shower. It was cleaned every day, the bathroom was a little tatty was the only problem. There are no lifts.
The pools are all cold except for one, which is heated, so was popular. But you soon warm up again in the heat. It was late 20s went we were there which was perfect for a young family.
The water slides were fantastic and kept us amused for ages. There was also a wave machine in the pool of Hotel Aqua Blu, but this was only on between 1-1.30pm every day apparently, we never saw it on.
Sun beds at both the beach and pools all had cushions (left out every night so it obviously never rains!).
The evenings were a little chilly so you need a jacket.
The Crocodile Restaurant was nicely done and there was plenty choice for all meals. We could always find something to please everyone. There is also a pool side snack bar at lunchtime. Ice cream was available for the children.
You could of course pay for some items like fresh orange juice, strawberries and imported ice creams like Magnums, but you could certainly go the whole holiday without carrying a wallet. The restaurant is non smoking. It is fair to say the Egyptians like to smoke!
We did not find the drinks to be watered down. The beer was local and the bottles were opened there in front of you. The wine was fine, and you could help yourself to as much coke, lemonade and fizzy orange as you could drink.
Local spirits, and cocktails were also fine, we did try most of them out! We did hear that local bottled water (which was also freely available) might give you a runny tummy but all five of us were fine. When having a drink outside you use a perfectly acceptable plastic glass.
We went on a snorkelling day out which was fantastic. We bought the trip from one of the sellers at the hotel. It is true that they are always trying to sell you stuff around the pool or at the beach, like hair cuts and massages and safaris, but as long as you are polite there is no problem.
The beach was great, 10 minutes walk. There is even a proper restaurant down there for lunch and drinks for those staying at Primasol Albatros and Aqua Blu. You could snorkel and see tropical fish off the beach, which was amazing.
The beach was great for the children as there were rock pools, etc. You did not have to pay for sun beds.
The evening entertainment was not great; there was a mini disco for the children, in several languages. We went to an Egyptian night, which we did pay extra for (£9 per adult).
There was a meal and then belly dancers and an amazing spinning man who dances for at least ten minutes while spinning.
In all we had a great time so we would definitely recommend Egypt and this hotel. Enjoy!

Submitted By: Miss M ValenteThere hotel is about 10 mins away from the centre and there’s a Hard Rock cafe, McDonalds and a Pizza Hut so even if the food is not for you, there’s lots of other places and they are very cheap. The room was great - very big and the air conditioning was a treat especially at night when it just got so warm.
On the whole I could not have a had a better holiday and would definitely recommend this hotel and resort.

Submitted By: TRAVELLERWe will get the old favourite out of the way first. Is it five star? No is the short answer, the room’s border on three to four according to where you are put.
When we arrived at the hotel we were told we were being moved and upgraded to a better hotel which turned out to be 15 mins drive away so off we went only to discover it was a large complex with a complimentary buggy ride between your room and the main hotel building. Long story short here as my partner has difficulty walking we turned this down as it was a room in an apartment block on the third floor with no lifts.
Went back to the original hotel and insisted we have a room here. Eventually they gave us a room five mins walk from the main building on the second floor (stairs only) with a promise to move us to a better room in a few days time. As we were now very tired we accepted this reluctantly.
The room was so small we had to park our suitcases in the bathroom and whilst it was clean there was a strong smell of damp as this was a new extension onto the hotel complex which resulted in my partner being taken into hospital for three days with bronchitis from the damp and the fumes. We were eventually moved to a more suitable room 3 days later (turned down two before agreeing on this one) and were able to unpack.
So the rooms in the main building are clean and nearly all have a sea view however hardly any have a bath and a shower as advertised, only a shower.
The rooms are basically furnished but do show signs of wear and tear and if you forget your key you can limbo under the door as there are big gaps on the doors in most of the hotel. Aircon and heating is very good as it was cold at night so you need the heating.
There is no radio, music system, video in the rooms as suggested in the hotel site information page and every one we spoke to made the same observation.
FOOD:
The food is nothing to write home about and if you have been to Tunisia it is very much the same and only gets a 2 star rating and whilst there is nothing for the “typical” English palette (except chips) i.e. no bacon etc, we found the food to be varied to a more European standard the only problem being it was never very hot.
The dinning room is small and only holds around three hundred despite the fact that the room caters for over two thousand which includes the bungalows which are part of the hotel complex so getting a table can be pot luck.
There are loads of different restaurants all over the hotel but only two are part of the all inclusive package (bit naughty that) and additionally you are charged for fresh orange juice even if you are on all inclusive basis.
DRINK:
The drinks are ok but in most cases you have to queue to get served and service is slow with only one person serving. You do get bottled water for free but it is “locally” bottled and a lot of people had bad stomachs after drinking this. Once we stopped drinking it our stomachs settled down and no more problems although the onsite doctor was doing a roaring trade all the time (be warned, you will be charged for his services but from the offset it would appear that his consultation is free) but at least you can claim it on you insurance
ENTERTAINMENT:
The Animation team try very hard and do look after the kids but the shows in the evening in the outside theatre are pretty much what you would expect and are very poor and low quality.
If you want to see one of the visiting local shows (belly dancers etc) you have to pay for this as it is part of the “theme buffets” that are laid on during the odd evenings so once again, a payable item not part of AI as implied.
There is a singer in the Tic Tac pub advertised as “a band” who sings along to some very dodgy backing tracks and additionally you have to pay for drinks in this bar so one again where ever there is entertainment (other than the Animation team) you have to pay.
WATER SPORTS ETC:
Diving and wind surfing are available but horse riding is being led on horse back for five mins along the beach, that’s it. No jet ski or similar despite the hotel claiming otherwise in its publicity. Word of warning here as I was going to go Scuba Diving but after looking at the condition of the equipment and the dive boats attached to the complex I decided not to do it from here, a decision which was a wise one, when a few days later one of the dive boats sunk whilst at it’s mooring on the jetty.
LOCATION:
The hotel is located in an area that you have to get a taxi to go anywhere or the local buses and it is at least twenty mins to anywhere, having said that the taxis are really cheap (we went into the town, did some shopping for a couple of hours whilst the driver waited for us and then brought s back which cost a total of 70 Egyptian pounds) (roughly £7.00) so this was helpful.
One of the problems with this hotels location is the fact that it is very windy all the time and the beach is wall to wall with wind breaks which you are invited to pay for.
Not to many English at this hotel, mainly Germans, Russian and lot of the locals stay at this hotel but no problems
The on site shops are expensive (in relation to the prices in town) and getting out and about is a must.
There are other hotels in the area which are far superior at a lower rate which is worth considering if you have not already booked however if you have booked then do not get to concerned as a good time can be had but as long as you remember that the hotel is not what it purports to be and is really only a three star at best and all the little things that should be part of AI are not.
Would we go again, yes but not to this hotel.
Always travel with Sunstar Leisure and found this to be not one their better holidays.

Submitted By: Mrs S HareThe people were friendly and the place was kept spotless. The weather was fab and not too hot as we had been told it might be. At first our rooms were not quite right but the staff did everything possible to remedy the problem as soon as they could. The endless quantities of free cold bottled water were very much needed. We would love to go back again as soon as possible.
The only trip we did was to go snorkelling which was fabulous it really is as colourful as the picture postcards. There were a few extras such as ice cream and branded alcohol. We had a truly relaxing, happy holiday.

Submitted By: Mrs J BruceOn the beach with fantastic pools all around the complex. The food was good you could always find something to eat the drinks were ok but only local alcohol but we knew this before arriving but we paid £275 each what excellent value you would not get two nights in England for that kind of money. Only problem was a few loud Russians which bothered some of the guests.
Our weather unfortunately was cold in the evenings which apparently was unusual and as we left it was getting warmer.
Last year I went to a sandals hotel which cost us £2000 pounds each apart from the food and drinks which were good. The luxury at this hotel was as good if not better.

Submitted By: Mr M BesantThe staff most in need of the training were the chefs. bearing in mind that this was 4* all inclusive hotel having a meal of local Egyptian stew every night was not quite what I thought I had paid for. i'm not against trying the local food, but being forced to have it for lack of other alternatives was not fitting for a 4*. the selection of food was generally quite poor with the absence of almost all fruits apart from the local bitter oranges.
Anyone coming here to enjoy the all inclusive bar facilities should also think again unless they solely want to drink beer.
although there was a variety of cocktails and wine on the menu. the wine was watered down and had been opened for far to long. the cocktails were made from squash. there was also no distinguishable difference between the vodka, rum, gin or other white spirits. this as well as no atmosphere and a totally empty bar.
we travelled with med hotels who where the only tour company in Hurghada to ship all travellers to the airport knowing that there was a 7hour delay to the flight home. Thomas cook had it worked out and let everyone stay in the comfort of their all inclusive surrounding. we were told there was a coffee shop up there. what more do you want?
all said it was sunny and warm, but next time id go to Sharm where there is a town and something to do off the hotel.

One of the bars claimed to be open till 12.00 am, at 2 mins past, I tried to get a drink, they served me, brought the drinks to the table then billed me!
The beer they served that claimed to be 4.5% alcohol was also a lie - I drank 5 pints of the stuff and remained stone cold sober, to the end of the holiday, a friend I had met there managed to get hold of one of these bottles of beer and sure enough, they had already been opened and resealed does this hotel water down their beer?? When I tried to get drunk on the spirits, the staff would not serve me a shot as big as 25ml so still I remained sober.
It seemed every where you went there was always a little hidden charge.
The food was terrible and there were times in the day were there was no food available at all so again, we had to spend money on going out of the hotel to find edible food.
We also weren’t told when we booked, that the hotel was a German hotel and myself and my boyfriend were two of 8 people there that were English, the staff didn’t know much English, and the so called entertainment was also in German.
The check out time was at 12.00pm, but at 8.30 am, I was woken up by the cleaner asking us to leave straight away so he could clean - I told him I wasn’t leaving till 12.00 but then at 10.30, I was called and asked if they could come and collect my luggage - again I told them check out was at twelve noon.
After all this, the med hotels had the cheek to inform us the all the staff expected to be tipped! Never again will I use med hotels or Primasol.

The drinks available are local beer and a few spirits but after 15 cups of beer it had no effect so we brought our own duty free spirits into the bar. Cocktails are charged for, as is orange juice and ice cream. There is no food available between 11am and 1.30pm.

The air conditioning in the rooms is switched off between 6pm-11pm every night. The German tour companies arrange for their mini bars to be filled up, English mini bars are just empty fridges. The biggest problem is that the staff do not speak English only German and Egyptian!

" This place was GREAT!!!!
I’m 100% going to come back to Beach Albatros in Hurghada. But it will first be sometime in the summertime next year (2005).
Probably the best holiday ever...
You could see lot’s of need stuff, like: The sphinx, Keops pyramid, the Nile, Karnak, The Egyptian museum in Cairo, The valley of the Kings...and so much more.
The weather is great, and people are nice.
The waiter’s are very, VERY nice. In fact, we had made a list over the waiter’s, we really liked (There where 6) and we had pictures taken of them. Naturally we all had a favourite waiter... mine was a guy called... well I’m not sure if it was his name, but I think his name was "Hossam". I am not telling you why I liked him, though. It sounded so funny when he tried to pronounce my name. My name is Kenny and when he said it, he said something like "Canun". We all had a big laugh. The staff really has humour and knows how to have fun with the guests.
Amway’s, there were SO many facilities, and so much to do. I’d recommend a 14 day Holiday, cause you want the most out of this vacation.
Swimming Pool’s, Mini-Golf, Bar’s, Restaurant’s, shop’s (many of them has cheap prizes) and a lot of other stuff.
Anyways... This was a "short" review, lol:) I just cant wait for next year.
See ya.

Our room was clean and had enough space to swing a cat if we had wanted to, the only slight moan would be the lack of hangers (this seems to be the norm the world over), again upon request at the reception desk extra hangers were taken to my room. The rooms were cleaned every day to a very high standard and the towels were also changed daily, the cleaning staff were very polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble (and this wasn't just the last day when they were looking for a tip like other hotels).
The entertainment team were funny, friendly and although the shows are very basic, they work really hard to get everyone involved and make sure they have a good time, they work very long hours and yet they are always polite and say "hi" and smile, they keep you informed about the activities at the hotel times etc. I was there during ramadam, which meant that most of the staff were unable to eat or drink during the day, not even a glass of water in 34 degrees, and yet they still gave 100%.
The last bit of this is to advise anyone going to Hurghada to check out the night club Havana, open air, great music, foam party on certain nights and just a great place to dance till 6am. Or you can chill outside with a pizza and watch a bit of t.v. The hotel runs a free bus to the club every night and will take you back to the hotel when you have run out of steam, just wait outside the club and it will appear, again this is free.
I have just booked with Med Hotels to go back to this fun place in Jan 08, ok, so the foods not French, the beers not always cold, but the sun always shines and the people are some of the most hard working, respectful and friendly that I have ever met and let's face it, it's mega CHEAP! Enjoy.
