Submitted By: essexladyWill go to Egypt again next year but not back to Dana.
Advice: lovely place for chill out
Activities: diving
Good for: Beach

" Awesome fish in the Red Sea "
Submitted By: ace cat ladyThe loud music with a DJ shouting in Egyptian from 10am to 11pm both at hotel and beach if you could get a sun lounger at one end the noise was not to bad but everyone seemed to want to go there. The fish in the Red Sea was wonderful you just have to stand waist deep, very still and they would swim around your legs
2 main resturants with food that all seemed to taste the same, plenty of Germans pushing and shoving and always shouting, and hassle from the Egyptians all the time
would never go back nor recomend it to anyone else.
" Dana Beach is a large attractive all... "
Submitted By: Miss M SimpsonHaving read many reviews we knew there would be a large number of Russians at the resort and that they were rude but we did not imagine the extent of their rudeness and ignorance which after a while rubs off and you start doing as they do. I would estimate the break down of nationalities goes 70% Russian, 25% German and then 5% for the rest of us.
Do not bother with the 1001 nights show at it's sister hotel as it is very dull but the sales man Kamel is a very kind genuine man.
We would definitley suggest taking the boat trip to Mahmya.
Buying souvenirs we would recommend either barganing at the hotel shops or better still wait for the airport on the way home as they are very strict on luggage weight and there is a good Bizarre there with everything.
Don't bother going to Hurghada unless you are up for being pulled around and definitley do not go to a shop owned by Paolo!!! You can get all the same items at the airport for the same or less.
Tipping in the hotel and saying hello to all the staff goes a long way but what ever you read elsewhere they prefer Egyptian money not a pound coin as they can't change them up.
We had a very good holiday at Dana and would go back again. Just be prepared to be the only english speaking people within 30 sun beds and fight for your food at peak times!!

Submitted By: Mrs S Wilson" Anyone who complains about this... "
Submitted By: Mrs J BajHotel-great, no complains, loved belly dancing and step aerobics and swimming.
Staff-did anything and everything for us, to keep us happy, as we are vegetarians, washed pan every time when they cook pasta. Reception staff were very rude but.
Food-not much choice, as we are vegetarian, but absolutely loved desserts, ate almost same thing every day, but as it was freshly prepared to our choice, we have no complaints, but there was plenty for others.
Cleanliness-absolutely spotless, it was so clean, I almost slipped on the mirror clean floor!
Entertainment-some days ok and some days so so..
Activities-loved belly dancing, step aerobics, swimming, snooker, and tennis (both payable)
Overall-lots of Russians and Germans and eastern Europeans, but dint bother us.
Tours-went to Cairo by tour bus(booked independently from the town, only £27 pp, it was worth it, dessert safari-ok, worst food ever, snorkelling-good, worst food again.
Weather-bit windy and breezy, but sunny every day, did get tanned as well, nights quite cold, do need hoody.
Rep from the tour company-hopeless, did not help us at all.
Overall-very satisfied with hotel, staff very hard working, and always smiling. Do not be intimidated by negative reviews and do try this hotel.
Shopping-bought few perfumes, be prepared to listen to history of perfumes for 1 hour before buying! Haggle in good stores as well. Nothing else to buy.
Transport-lots of haggle, do not give more than 20 Egyptian pounds to go in the town.
" The best place I have ever been to,... "
Submitted By: Miss Megan ChardI did my Padi course, I passed because my instructor Mohamed was cool he helped me pass and I did so I love it. I will keep going there until I die thank you for the best holiday. There was one boy that helped me lots Ramadan {he rides the boats}, one thing I didn’t like was the r factor and the j factor.
I loved it I miss it so so much
" If anyone complains about this place,... "
Submitted By: TWRAlthough there were far more Germans and Russians than Brits there, there was no problem unless you wanted to make a problem. The drinks, you are as well to ask for 2 dmall glasses of beer as they do not give you the bottle, no problem. The poolside bars, 10/10 there is a bar not far off the sea front, a good relaxing seating area, the service is 10/10 also the bar and snack kiosk next to the sea front 10/10.
The shopping area within the complex is run well, if you want anything BARTER BARTER and BARTER they will drop the price I can assure you (Ask my wife).
Overall the Dana Beach is a very well run place with the holiday maker the first priority. Also, this is not a complaint, I myself work with people whom have learning disabilities and are wheelchair bound, the Ramps that they have are a bit steep for an elderly couple to use but there are a lot of people out there that will help if you need it.
So my views to anyone thinking of booking this hotel, book with ease, you will not be disappointed. Trebor / Jean
" After a 4hr police escorted drive... "
Submitted By: TWRIf you like swimming, walking, brews, ( teas ) crazy golf, they have it, we had a great week, to make sure our room attendant had his tip, I handed it to him, himself apart from a few other things that we did not want to carry home, e.g./ shampoo, after sun, etc, I also put this in writing to make sure the management knew that the items were given to him.
Just a point on rep service, we have covered a few miles over the world but have never come across a rep that you had to contact by the local phone ( you live and learn don’t you) I tried to find our rep through a German rep ( does that make sense? ) it seem that orbital are not allowed into the Dana beach, so your contact details are written on your paper work, ( this will not happen again!)
Anyway just a word of advice as regards the tips, use your head, they will take the mickey if you are daft enough to tip everyone, well my advise stand in the street, they will take it.
After our week in the resort, we travelled the return police escorted trip back to Luxor, if you are faint hearted, do not sit in the front seat, the drive is fast, in close to the front car, this reason is for security reasons.
The last point I will make, don’t think by putting extra bits in your hand luggage you will save on the access, far from it, we were priced for our luggage at the Luxor airport £81 then £61 and believe it or not, £45 so who is taking the mickey.
Just a last one, when you get out of the taxi at the front of the airport do not let the porters get your case, otherwise you will pay the price, a couple in front of us paid a £10 for a matter of 200 feet, were they taking the mickey. I will let you decide, have a good holiday. Trebor.
" After last year’s delightful... "
Submitted By: Mr M J DunningIf you like snorkelling, this is not for you as all the coral is dead, but you could go on one of the many excursions. Once again it was 60% Russian. 30% German, but they were all quite pleasant but no one really mixed.
Not too much to do in the evening, they have a Piano Bar, which is like an airport waiting lounge, a Sports / Entertainment bar which was always empty and a small bar called Alexander which was okay for a late one, although on occasions the well oiled Germans were banging out their versions of Roll Out the Barrell !
Last year we took a flight to Luxor for a day’s sightseeing, this year we went north to Cairo which was a similar price of £145. We were with 5 other English couples and it was an amazing day. We took in the Mohammed Ali Temple, then onto the vast Cairo Museum, a spot of lunch (when the group bonded over a few chilled ones) and then into the desert for the amazing Pyramids and Sphinx! We did have a 2 hour delay on the flight back, but it had been a very good day, so it was okay! The staff were very friendly and yes, they do prefer the British to the other Nationalities mainly because they like to practice their English and also they find us more approachable and mannerly.
It was a very good break and I would recommend the resort and Hotel, although I feel that I have now seen there is all to see in Egypt, but if I had the choice on Sharm or Hurghada, I would just edge towards Sharm El Sheikh !
" We went here in March 2005 and liked... "
Submitted By: Miss J LinleyDiving centre absolutely first rate; snorkelling wonderful. The food was varied and extremely good and in fact the only thing we could fault was the rip-off with the trip to Luxor where we were heavily overcharged for a long and uncomfortable trip. The guide was also a mine of misinformation. However, only having cause for one gripe in a two-week holiday can't be bad.
" Overall, a great holiday. We... "
Submitted By: Ms S SmallA firm favourite was the heated pool and the large beach (manmade though so no good for snorkelling). Facilities across the site were excellent and spotlessly clean - even down to the toilets on the beach!
Food was good and available all day (and most of the night) and drinks were available in all areas - and at a height where children can help themselves. Staff were very helpful and pleasant - and all spoke English.
Entertainment for the children was better than for the adults. Some hassle with shop keepers in bazaar opposite but most on site were fine.
The campus overall has a 5* rating, but this I feel was more for the facilities - the rooms were nice and very clean, but did not warrant a 5* rating - more of a 3-4*.
Beware when signing up for the health club facilities - check to see what other guests are paying and then haggle! Do not pay the book price!
Hotel fumigates the grounds for mossies every day which resulted in no bites at all - wonderful!
Hurghada still a developing resort with lots of building work on-going. Coral mostly dead in this area so beware if wishing to dive and snorkel - Sharm el Sheik was better for the water sports.
Would we return - definitely!
" Great holiday and hotel, cannot fault... "
Submitted By: Mr S BrownFood was more towards Russian people and I would say only a handful of English, but for the week we were there it was very nice and after other Egyptian holidays, I found the beer and spirits great.
There was so many places on site including beach with bars with tea/beer and soft drinks.
Also bottled water was freely given everywhere and most bars you took as many bottles from the bar as you wanted.
Also food was on the beach with chips/burgers and pizza fresh from oven.
There was two big restaurants and service was great, you have to fetch your own drinks (again red/white wine and beer) but all you want, bar staff poured glasses out ready on top for you to help yourself.
Waiters were great and all could understand English.
Rooms were very good and had TV and a fridge with three bottles of pop and two water (all free no charge and restocked every day).
Three swimming pools one big pool heated 30 degrees and a boating lake, all free just help yourself, bikes and children’s motor cars free, and pool and beach beds and towels all no charge, all the holiday we hardly spent just a few tips.
Only draw backs, sea is manmade and though easy to go in, no steps, no good for snorkelling you need to go out into open sea or on a boat.
Entertainment was very bad and was really geared for children there was shows but all miming, this was only problem we had with hotel.
You vacate room at 12 noon but no charge if you want another 2 hours, also you can still use bars and get food.
Tips, just complain if you don’t get room you want or service, they just change and do everything to help you.
English money accepted everywhere.
Trips, we were only there for a week but plenty of trips on show and plenty of security nothing to worry about.
" Overall a good value for money... "
Submitted By: Mrs J ThomasWe are a family of five and had a two bed roomed apartment, with a lounge which was lovely and spacious but the beds were very very hard and uncomfortable.
We did complain and they did try to sort it but the replacement mattress was just as bad. Mini bar was stocked with soft drinks daily.
Plenty of sun beds despite the hotel being busy for Easter and the pool staff very helpful.
Although they were cooking for large numbers the food overall was good with plenty of choice and always tables available.
The beach is manmade and my sons were disappointed they couldn't make sandcastles but the heated pool soon made it OK.
Plenty to do in the evening - pool, mini golf etc.
Overall a good holiday to take the kids on.

Advice: not the best place to visit
Activities: no favourites used them all. no sightseeing, just relaxed
