On the whole we had a great time....
8 / 10
Aug 2006, Mrs Potts

On the whole we had a great time. Have to say majority of guests were German and eastern Europeans, only time we established who was English was when England played in the World Cup!
Food is very good, although by the end of the week we were getting pretty bored with the choice. Breakfast and lunch was superb, always found something to eat.
The Italian A La Carte restaurant is well worth a visit, although you have to pay, very cheap and at least you get a choice and waiter service.
The only time we were pestered by hard sell was on the beach and we did succumb to a one day snorkeling boat trip. However, this was superb and well worth the money. Lovely people, lovely food, lovely day out.
Evening entertainment leaves a lot to be desired, but if you just want to chill and have a couple of drinks after your evening meal, then you cannot fault the place.
The staff are particularly friendly to the English, perhaps because we are equally polite to them. Make sure you give them a tip at the beginning of your holiday (we didn't do this until half way through the week - what a mistake!). Once you have tipped them handsomely they cannot do enough for you, sun beds at the front of the pool, waiter service at the bar, etc. etc!
We will definitely go back, but a week is long enough.

If your looking for a relaxing...
8 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss H Watkinson

If your looking for a relaxing holiday then this hotel is for you! The hotel works on an all inclusive basis, which was fantastic. We stayed for 1 week in May & made the most of the food &drink on offer. You will never go hungry here as food is available all day until 12 midnight, as are the drinks.
We found the breakfasts to be delicious with lots of choice & different things everyday. The only draw back at meal times we found where the Germans who would literally push you out of the way to get to the food first or would steal your table when you were getting your drinks.
Not very nice! There isn’t much to do here but relax around the 2 pools or at the beach in the day. At night there are a couple of bars & a small club you could go to. We did venture out to the hard rock cafe in Hurghada for dinner one night which is worth a visit as we got a personal tour by our waiter of all the memorabilia. Just make sure you always check your bill & change as they are quick to add "extras" on your bill!
Overall this hotel is a well run clean, modern hotel that will make sure you’re made to feel welcome & enjoy your stay.

The first thing to remember about...
3 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss E Collins

The first thing to remember about this hotel is that the 5* rating is an Egyptian 5* , it really should be rated a 3*.
With the depressing town of Hurghada a taxi ride away, I began to think of this place as a prison camp! What with the daily slop served up in the canteens ( I refuse to call them restaurants) and the constant battle against the Germans (which they always won) for the sun loungers I have never been so pleased to get away from somewhere.
The all inclusive concept seemed to mean very warm drinks, rudeness and having to pay at the two proper restaurants on site. The staff also seemed to protect bottled water with their life, locking fridges from midnight to 10am
After such a great positive time in Sharm el Sheik, I was shocked at the state of Hurghada and would never return nor recommend.

Just back from Egypt and I have to...
7 / 10
Jul 2006, malct

Just back from Egypt and I have to say that you will be lucky to count on one hand the English, So learn a bit of Russian and germen and you will be OK. We where there for the qualifying match's of the world cup and you could not get into the bar when Germany was playing and then only a handful for the English games.
Anyways back to the hotel.
Food was very same'ish and by the end of two weeks you will have got totally sick of the food.
I was pestered by our cleaner who everyday would ask, Are you happy with your room! And on the last full day he knocked on the room door to remind me that I was leaving the next day and if I was happy with the room! And then at 8am on the day of departure, he was knocking on the door at 8am to ask if I was happy with the room and to remind me that I was leaving that day! What people will do for a tip ;-)

There was a large water area inside the hotel grounds that had pedalos and rowing boats! I was going to ask where the water was coming from but decided against it , but the grounds where kept clean and the sun beds where just great.

Entertainment was not so good and found that there was nothing to do after midnight when you had to pay for drinks! The disco Mmmmmm If you can find someone in there.

Overall the hotel is really nice, But could do better for the English.

Superb location 4 km outside Hurghada...
10 / 10
Apr 2006, Mr C Webb

Superb location 4 km outside Hurghada Town. Staff friendly. Accommodation first rate ... just upgraded to 5*. Free safe in each apartment. Beach towels supplied everywhere on site! Drinks supplied in glasses not plastic.
All local spirits drinkable. Supply of soft drinks in fridge in Apartment. Both buffet restaurants with fine and varied selection ... never knew you could do so many things with potatoes. All communal facilities clean and hospitable. Italian & Fish A la carte were good. Mostly German and Russian but some Brits and Dutch and Swedish are good company and speak English better than we do.
Highly recommended if you are prepared to stay on site. Aircraft noise as it is so close to the airport affects you for the first couple of days but you soon ignore it. Suits a week away and we paid £842.00 for package from Manchester for 2.
Would highly recommend if you are comfortable with your own company and you just want to chill. Good Night Club after midnight with a more than acceptable standard of entertainment.
Would go again for a week to chill out again.
Good Luck.

Well, I was probably the only person...
10 / 10
Mar 2006, Miss L Cook

Well, I was probably the only person there who was under the age of 20!! I went for a half term break with my parents and what can I say!
It was fantastic from start to finish. And although I was a bit unsure of going, I found myself dreading to go home!!
I have never stayed somewhere so immaculate and the reception area is gorgeous!
The staff are so helpful, and really had time for us. The animation team were such a laugh as well, and were part of the reason I didn't want to leave.
The food was great and there was a huge variety in all the halls. And the beef is delicious. A lot of fun was had with the waiters, who would make me paper roses and origami people!! British girls will leave the hotel with a huge ego!
Although there were not many English there, we meet some great people from Canada, Poland, Austria and the Tunisian animation team. All the guests just want to relax and have fun, so it's easy to make friends there.
The town, Sekala, is great fun. It was great just to walk up and down the streets and meet the locals. There are some great bars like 'Papa's Bar', which is run by an English guy and he puts on the football for all the English, so there's no need to worry about missing a match! Also, the guy who ran Papa's Bar, also ran the Ministry of Sound Beach Club, which although we didn't go to looked like a laugh.
Also, if you do go into Sekala, take the bus! They are such good fun and you never know what might happen!
So, if anyone wants a relaxing, fun holiday in the sun! Dana Beach is the perfect place to go!!
10/10!

My boyfriend and I were moved to the...
10 / 10
Jan 2006, Miss RA Cragg

My boyfriend and I were moved to the Dana Beach from the 1001 Nights hotel, which we'd booked as it was full when we arrived. From the moment we arrived we were impressed by the luxurious reception area and found the staff very helpful as we were taken to our room.
I guess it was because we were there at a quiet time of year but the room we were given was a family room with 2 bedrooms (a twin and a double) as well as two bathrooms, which was very convenient. The room was very comfortable and clean, and although the cleaner sometimes came to clean the room in the late afternoon when we were already back in the room he was very friendly and happy to clean around us.
The food was mainly aimed at the Germans, who made up most of the guests and there was not a lot of variety. However there was always something that we liked, and seeing as though we are both quite fussy eaters, we really couldn't complain! The best thing about the buffet style meals in the restaurants was the selection of puddings. The Don Carmello a la carte restaurants does lovely pizza at lunchtime and as it was a quiet week to be there, we were usually the only ones eating. The restaurant is also worth paying for one evening as you get 50% off with your all inclusive wristband and a two course meal for the both of us only came to £15 approx and my boyfriend had lobster!
I was very impressed by the amount of bars around the complex, and I found all the local wines, beers and spirits to be very nice. It was also no problem getting more than 1 drink at a time, which I had heard may be a problem.
The hotel itself is beautiful with 2 very large pools, one heated and one unheated. In January it was too cool to use the unheated pool, but the heated pool was warm enough to swim in comfortably and there was never a problem getting a sun bed as there was so many. The gardens are very well looked after and the "moat" around the Castello restaurant with pedaloes in it was lovely too.
The beach isn't very sandy, but again I couldn't fault the bars down there, or the fact that there were so many sun loungers, with wind breaks which is very useful as it can be quite breezy over there at this time of year. It is also very useful to be able to get fresh towels every day by the pools and the beach as this saves trying to dry then off in the room, which could have been difficult as we didn't have a balcony.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke great German and English and although there was some pressure to book tours, diving trips or go to the beauty centre, I didn't find it a problem. They were mainly just happy to chat once they found out we were from England as there were not many English tourists there.
The facilities such as the mini golf and the pool room were all well used, and very popular and the staff operating them were very friendly, as were the animation team who were great fun. As there were not a lot of guests around the pools in the day it was easy to get involved with the games. The gym is a bit lacking in equipment but is perfectly adequate for a quick work out on holiday and the beauty centre was fantastic, and all treatments are priced very favourably compared to prices in Britain.
As we were looking for a relaxing week in the sun we found the Dana Beach perfect. It was also very popular with older couples and young families, who all seemed to enjoy the facilities as well. I would definitely recommend the hotel to friends and would consider going back another winter as we both really enjoyed it.

Staff - alot were very helpful but other just rude
Rooms - OK, shower hardly worked the whole week we were there and had to call the plumber 4 times!! Hot, powerful shower on morning of departure only
Entertainment - OK nothing spectacular
Hassled - continuously to buy buy buy extras. From cocktails to fresh squeezed juice in a morning to trips and gala evenings!! Give us a break please
Occupancy - Mainly Germans, Russians with a spattering of French and maybe 2 English families apart from ours!!
Oh and incidentally we had to pay a visa entry into Hurghada which I was told we didn't need costing at extra 40 pounds for 4 persons on arrival at the airport

The 5* rating is Egyptian standard....
7 / 10
Sep 2005, Mrs E Winnington

The 5* rating is Egyptian standard. Hotel reception is very impressive creating the WOW factor, golf buggy to your room adds to the idyll, but then!
Rooms are small & tired looking - no bath- shower only, eating in the main dining room is a must but even there you’ll be hounded to PURCHASE - fresh orange at breakfast, cocktails at dinner, tickets to the barbecue evenings Tues & Fri,& bookings for the a la carte Italian, to say NO once is not enough, no escape at the pool/beach either- Animation team during the day brill. Top pool beautiful, as is the beach loads of beds. Food bland, never hot, badly set out in covered dishes with little variation.
You MUST ensure you have bottled water in room, delivered daily but we were forgotten a few times and no water is served until bar opens at 10am. Difficult re medication/children’s needs.

Apr 2005, Mrs I Berry

I went to this hotel with an open mind. I was treated like royalty from the minute I arrived at the hotel.
We stayed in a family room with 2 bedrooms living room and 1 bathroom. The rooms were kept very clean and the fridge stocked with mineral water and soft drinks. There were some nights we did not have hot water due to the fact that between 6 and 7pm everyone was taking a shower. We had a view overlooking the lake. There are 2 buffet restaurants and the choice of meals was very good.
The restaurant area was very clean and the food was hot with plenty to choice from. The speciality restaurant wad our favourite and the steaks were to die for. The manager would walk round the restaurants checking if everything was ok with the guests. There was plenty of sunbeds at both pools and at the beach.
We did not have to be up at the crack of dawn for a sunbed. The hotel provides you with beach towels each day. We did find that the heated pool is not heated in April but it was not a problem. There is a large play area for the children and the animation team were very good.
The toilets by the 2 pools were spotless in every way. The hotel did consist of mostly Russians, French and German with only a handful of English guests. However, as time goes on there will be more English guests too. The reception staff were very helpful and overall it was a joy to stay at this hotel. We will be returning again next year. Mr Salah the manager made sure he looked after his guests 100%.

Aug 2004, Miss K Young

Well, I can hardly give it ten as I didn’t like the beach - but that doesn’t really make much of an impact on my thoughts. It is a wonderful hotel - all the staff is excellent and friendly. The only complaint my mum had to make was that the hotel was very much so 'you must not do anything not included in this hotel'. Other than that no complaints!
I loved the hotel - I’m sure anyone else will - depending how picky you are...

We went to Egypt last year to the...

Jul 2004, Mrs K Rowley

We went to Egypt last year to the sunrise select garden beach 5 star in the same resort and had a 5 star holiday. We returned this year to the above hotel, which was according to the brochure 5 star. This hotel has the looks of a 5 Star hotel but the service of a 3 star.
We booked a family room as there were 4 of us together we did not get the correct room despite changing rooms three times.
The service was poor and the food was terrible.
My family spent 14 days on the toilet.
On the plus side the Egyptian people are as always very friendly.
However, this holiday/hotel has ruined my opinion of a 5 star hotel and I would not recommend this hotel as a 5 star.
The German tourists were queuing in droves to complain. We have requested some compensation.
