Cynthiana Beach Hotel

I beg to differ with "Sutton Coldfield". My wife and I are both under 70 and loved it. We have stayed in different levels of hotels all over the world and do have some basis of comparison. We kept meeting people there who come back every year and this has to be a reference. OK the food is not great but it is very cheap and the answer is to do as we did and go B&B. We found the staff to be unfailingly helpful and friendly. The pools are every pleasant and the rooms good value.

We stayed here from 7th to the 21st September. The food was appalling. The double bed was two singles pushed together, the room decor was 1950's council flat and the leisure facilities were basic. The only plus was the view (but not if you book an inland room) How this rates 3+ star we will never know. We read all the reviews before booking and thought it would be ok but we were WRONG. The hotel appears to cater quite well for the more elderly especially the over 70's. The staff were unfailingly surly and unhelpful. We had to hire a fridge at a cost of CYP42 and a safe key for CYP14. Both these items would usually be included in an hotel room where there is a 3+ star rating. Any complaints were met with the words upgrade which in effect meant a slightly better room but the same awful food. Stay here at your peril.

We arrived home last night 21.9.05 had a fantastic week at the Cynthiana, had read all the reviews and was a little dubious, but should not have worried, everything was excellant, we actually had the relic of some machine outside our balconey that had been mentioned in an earlier report and this made it seem very familiar it was part of the view. We were half board and the food was very good with lots of choice, different every night. We were in the Olympian Wing which was wonderful, but speaking to other guests they could'nt complain about the standard rooms, and nearly every room had a good view. The area it stands in is breath taking and of course the weather was super, very hot for September. We will be going again next year.

This hotel is gorgeous, it is in a brilliant location amid the banana plantations. It is relaxing and friendly.. everything you could wish for in a holiday!

We have been to the Cynthiana Beach hotel for the last 7 years. We fell in love with it. It is a warm friendly hotel, staff are excellent. the staff remember you from being a regular visitors It is well maintained, the last couple of years it has started to being revamped. Food is very good. The setting of the hotel is beautiful. We have also made lots of friends who go back every year, we all try to go the same time. my sister and husband have also started to go with us for the last 3 years We have all booked for 2006. Would recommend this hotel it is excellent.

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Cynthiana Beach Hotel. Having read the reviews below, the hotel must be a bit hit and miss. In July / August it was a hit. A 4 person Family room is large enough for 2 Adults & 2 Children (4 & 7 in our case) May be a struggle with older children. Towels changed every day and the rooms kept clean. The main pool was busy from Breakfast onwards so if you want a sun lounger, best to get up early. Both the outdoor pools and indoor pools seemed Ok. Friendly staff, always willing to answer any questions / deal with queries. Usual thing, additional hidden charges - Safe Key - Tea / Coffee making facility etc. The hotel is a bit out in the sticks so you may want to hire a car for a few days.Taxi fare to Paphos CY£6-CY£8 All in all, an Ok place.

Just returned back from the Cynthiana Beech hotel(July 2005) and very impressed with the hotel, The staff were very friendly,polite and professional. The rooms were very clean and not bad at all as when you go abroad the rooms can be very very basic but they were nice.I would book a sea view as the views are excellent. The hotel as got its own private beech which is really good as its not to busy.The hotel is for any age groups, couples, families, its good for parents with teenagers who just want to relex around the pool side listening to music but not for the teenagers who want to go clubbing as the hotel isn't near anything like that.The pool was an average size and very clean. Overall i enjoyed my stay at the Cynthiana Beech Resort and im looking forward to my stay in Oct.(Hope the weathers as good as it was now)

We have returned many times to the Cynthiana, it is the most wonderful relaxing place. The people are so friendly and helpful. We always stay in the Olympian wing, it has incredible views. Although we have stayed in the main hotel. We would recommend this hotel to anyone. There is a regular bus service which only costs 70c and runs until 11pm into Paphos. The local restaurants are lovely and the food excellent. The beach is so peaceful, because there are no watersports, it is the place to chill-out! We always feel emotional when leaving, but we will return.

we booked this holiday a week before we went and got a really good deal with direct holidays. The hotel was really clean and all the staff were very friendly. We took our 5 year old child, and he loved it. Dancing in the hotel bar at night, walks along the beach and the swimming pool. This hotel is very relaxedTHIS and would suit more elderly people, but still a joy for the whole family. the food was very good and you have a lot of choice. The rooms were also very nice, clean, and air conditioning. OVERALL THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST HOLIDAYS WE HAVE HAD AND WE HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THE WORLD. YOU MUST TRY IT

We were there 2 times with my wife, each time trying several suites in various blocks of the hotel (including the Olympian Wing that is recently built and is ranked as '4 stars'). Also, we called at several nearby 4 and 5-star hotels asking the staff to show us around... Well all we can say they are certainly over-classed - unlike Cynthiana. The hotel consists of 3 parts - Main block, block 2 and so-called 'Olympian Wing' (several 2-store cottages x 4 suites each). Views. Sea view is best in Block 2 (3rd store and higher) - it stands on the cliff right over the sea. we kept our window open all night so that we could breathe and hear the sea - that was really nice! Sea view from the Main Block is obscured by trees. It stands a bit further from the sea than block 2, with the restaurant and part of the beach beneath. Both blocks are faced westwards - no direct sunlight after 12 o'clock, wonderful sunsets. In the Olympic Wing, there are only 2 cottages (4 suites) with the sea view. However, they are placed somewhat inconvenient (north-west) - nice sea view/ sunsets, but direct sunlight from midday till 18-19:00. so you must keep the windows shut and air condition turned on. Also, the balconies of the sea view Olympian suites can be easily observed from nearby Cynthiana blocks -so every time you go out to have coffee you have that uncomfortable feeling that the whole hotel is watching. As for the garden view - it is very much the same in all blocks: the banana trees. Several Olympian suites, however, have a view to a prehistoric asphalt-laying machine that stands there long abandoned. Suites. Well, nothing very special - large bed, TV, air-condition, iron safe, shower and bath. Strange toilets - when you push the button, the level of water rises almost up to the edge (with all that it contains) and only then - rapidly down but if you are lucky and there were enough water for this. If not, be ready to another try in several minutes. Olympian suites are newer (no such tricks with water) and have all this stuff telling 4 star from 3 - bathfoams, shampoos, teapot, minibar and a fridge (good to keep fresh fruits cold). Beaches and swimming pools. No sandy access to water in the hotel area. There is a sandy beach with sofas and umbrellas that is next to 2 bays with stairways to water - one open to the sea and waves (no access there when the waves are high - red flag on the beach), another is like a closed bay. There is also small and lonely bay right under Block 2 - but the beach is rocky so be ready to have 'watersocks' (swimming shoes) on if you go there. Beware of sea-urchins - I stepped on one, the needles are still stuck in my shoe. 2 swimming pools in the Main block area - the smaller one is covered from the sun. One in Olympic wing. The pool areas are usually occupied by families with small children; couples like us preferred beach area closer to the sea. Nearby beaches: Coral Bay beach (about 5 minutes by taxi) - nasty and crowded. A sandy beach in abt 1 km from the hotel in direction of Paphos - poorly kept, sofas and umbrellas are 1 pound per person.. Be very careful with this beach - high waves, tricky bottom with hidden rocks - once we saw a rescue team luckily saved a man who nearly drowned there. Location, restaurants etc Location is rather convenient - down from the main road, about 2 minutes along the banana plantations - so the site is rather hidden from local villagers. The breakfast is fine (usual 'continental' set), served separately for Olympian wing and for the rest (main canteen), the food is still the same. No pancakes at Olympian wing - so we went to the main canteen even when we stayed at Olympic to have some... 2 tavernas, 2 and 3 minutes of slow walking from the hotel - the Tsakis and the Dorya, very similar as to food and prices. Nice food but prices are higher than in similar tavernas in Paphos which is within 7 km. There is a bus stop nearby but we took taxi every night we went out. Taxi can be ordered by phone through reception - abt 15 minutes waiting. Careful with taxi drivers ! Be sure to agree on price beforehand, esp. on your way back to hotel. You can also have a night meal at the hotel's restaurant (there are 'Cypriot', 'Oriental' or 'Seafood' nights) - we bought coupons at the reception and went there when we had no mood to go to town or tavernas. Nice sea view from the restaurant, nice wine (try Cynthiana rouge, or Othello).. But 3 or 4 times were enough - we needed something more exotic. Like, for example, the Indian restaurant CoHiNoor in Paphos. Closer to the road is a small kiosk open all day, with fresh fruits, souvenirs etc Staff. Mixed feeling about this. Local (Cypriot) people are very nice and friendly. The room maids which are from Ukraine (Moldova?) are either very poorly trained or deliberately rude. One night, 2 such maids broke into our room at Olympian wing almost without knocking and required that we immediately leave: 'Because it's Friday, they need to complete cleaning and go home earlier'. They were happy to find us already dressed for the night and in good mood, so I simply told them to go away and come when the 'please-clean-the-room' card is on the handle. Still, that incident was rather funny than unpleasant. Garden. Best in the area and nicely kept ! Generally, Cyprus has a rocky or desert landscape with a very small touch of green, but Cynthiana is something like an oasis. Internet photos available on hotel's site were taken somewhere in early 90-ies (?), the garden is much more beautiful now. Hotel's fauna includes numerous stray cats (very tourist-friendly), 2 or 3 species of lizards (they rest on hot stones and run away when you approach); if you are lucky, at night, you can see a hedgehog or a bat flying quietly in the streetlights. There are also swallows living in cliffs, they appear right after the sunset when the wind start blowing from the sea.
