Jinene Hotel Reviews
" Excellent holiday. Oonagh, UK "
Submitted By: oonaghoMade loads of friends by the pool who we'll hook up with again. lovely memories by all.
Thought the day trips were fantastic and especially the water sports. Loads of choice, not expensive for a sterling conversion and the water sports rep, Mehar, was a dude. Took a fantastic pirate ship cruise aswell and thought it amazing.
Really loved the local staff the most, they showed us Tunisia as they live it and that in itself was priceless.
Well recommended would definately come again. Next time would go it alone as the thompson reps were crap, seriously no effort made by them at all and very uneducated in their area when quizzed for information.
Advice: definately would recommend a holiday in Sousse, amazing cultural experience
Activities: Daknar
Good for: Beach

The food was great , always a good choice and the other guests we spoke to agreed.
The weather was fantastic very hot and sunny everyday , the pool is a good size has a bar beside for refreshments and snacks. There is also a beach bar about half way to the beach both bars sell great food and very cheap e.g. : pizza or omelet around £1.20.
The staff were great and very attentive nothing was too much trouble.
The hotel bar was good at night time especially when Majdi is working he is great and very helpful with anything we needed to know about the area.
Our room was fantastic and the air conditioning was great, we also had a fridge which you can ask for at reception at a charge about £20 per week .The room was cleaned daily to a high standard.
Entertainment at night time is at the next door hotel Jinene , this seems popular with some guests but we found repetitive and boring.
Beach:
The beach is only minuets from the hotel although it is very narrow at first if you walk 5 mins either direction you will find more space to relax.
There are great water sports on the beach , paragliding, jet skis , banana boats ,speed boats etc.
If you want to book any water sports the best guy to ask for is called Daknar who you will find at the pool ask any member of staff they will find him for you.
Daknar will also book you camel rides or 4x4 quad bikes and the pirate ship, his prices are the best !!! and he will make sure you are happy .
Outside the Hotel:
The trips are also great I recommend the 4x4 jeep trip to Berber villages,or if you are there 2 week the Sahara Explorer is a must .The Sahara Explorer trip is an amazing 2 day trip you will see a lot of the country but expect to be traveling for long periods on a bus at the end of the 2 day trip you will have done something you will never forget “priceless” !!!Don’t forget to take your camera.
Port El Kantoi is 5 dinars in a taxi (about £2.20) from the hotel and is modern has a marina and lots of shops ,hotels ,and restaurants made for tourists you must visit here.
Sousse is 5 dinars the opposite direction , Sousse is more Tunisian with lots to see.
The Medina is a must my wife loved it but likes to shop, not my thing, if you go to Sousse and like steak you must go to the Saloon Bar its one of the best steaks I have ever eaten and large !!!
You will find Tunisian people very friendly and helpful with a great sense of humour, if you speak with them they will be friendly and try to help you to make the most of your holiday.
Advice: Love Tunisia already booked for this year 2009
Activities: Food , Hotel ,Saloon Bar Sousse,Medditeranian Port Kantiou. Tours Sahara 2 day 4x4x jeep
Good for: Beach
" All Round Nice ! "
Submitted By: paulagodsonFood was not the best !! We compared quite alot with others around staying in El Kantoui and Sousse area !!
Entertainment was middling to fair.
Nice amenities and a pleasantly large room with balcony ! Great maid-service !
Don't be afraid if you are allocated this hotel - but there are much better ones !

Submitted By: chris39ang40Overall the Holiday was a success, listed below are some of the Goods & Bads points in my opinion.
1. A MAJOR bad point is the shop in the hotel grounds near the pool called the 'Bazar'. The staff prey on new comers, who stand out like a sore thumb with the 'zero tan'. You will be pressured into purchasing souveniers at EXSTORTIONATE rates, but they are proffessionals when it comes to convincing you that you have made a bargain. Examples are 'a sliver COLOURED (NOT ACTUALY SILVER) bangle' which will be pin stamped with your name in English and Arabic. Prices start at 30TD but you will get him down to 15TD. They can be purchased at the Port of El Kantaoui for 3TD. Vases start at 10TD and can be purchassed for 4TD and so on. AVOID this shop, you will be crusified and ripped off, I was because I didn't know any better and put this warning here to hopefully protect you.
2. The staff are very friendly and have a good grasp of the English, German, French and Dutch language. They expect 1TD tips for virtualy anything and you will be dishing them out like confetti, 1TD is about 38pence depding on the exchange rate which changes daily. It fluctuated between 2.26 TD and 2.43 TD to £1 in the the week of 15/6/08 and 22/6/08.
3. A maid will clean your room everyday, change the towels and sheets. We left a 3TD daily tip for her and she even folded up our clothes and washed our coffee cups (Not the normal service) but 3TD is a lot to them and basically nothing for us, so be nice.
4. We arrived at the hotel on Sunday lunchtime, but the meeting with the TC Rep was not unitl Monday at 11am. Hence everyone tries to rip you off, this is something that needs to be rectified.
5. Taxi's to Sousse cost 3TD (for the car, not per person), not 5TD like they will ask for, you do not want the meter on , agree a price before getting in the taxi and also check they have change (another of their tricks) and a taxi to Port El Kantaoui is 4TD not 10TD as some friends were asked to pay. They also all speak English, infact everyone does.
5. The rooms are individualy airconditioned although the switches were wired the wrong way round, select heat for cold and cold for heat if your insane. The taps also suffered this problem, put the cold tap on and you get hot water and the hot tap produces cold, not a major problem just be aware.
6. I warn you now it is seriously hot, sunday15th was 39c, monday 16th was 42c, Tuesday 17th was 48c (Yes Forty Eight), Wednesday 18th was 43c, Thursday 19th was 42c, Friday 20th was 46c and Saturday 21st was 44c. Drink plenty of bottled water, 1 litre every 2 hours minimum each.
6. The entertainers at the Hotel are brilliant, you will been laughing yourself silly, different show every night, but not going into to much detail or it will spoil the suprises, hehehe
7. Sadly the absolute worst part of the holiday has to be the food at the hotel, we were half board so intended eating out anyway. You can get a decent meal with wine for 2 adults in the Port El Kantaoui for an average of 30TD (about £12). Restaurants are all over the place.
I know these comments are not in order, just trying to give a few pointers, will be adding more information tomorrow and will try to answer any questions you might have. Thanks and enjoy your Holiday, we did

" Just had a fabulous 2 weeks holiday... "
Submitted By: Mrs D J GriffithsDont let the reviews put you off this hotel is first class despite only being a 2 star.
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the entertainers Arbie, Wallid, Mohammed and Marrowen were excellant they joined everyone in from young to old.
We stayed at the Jinene in 2006 and although we really enjoyed it we could see improvement in certain areas especially the food. If you want bacon and eggs for breakfast your in for a dissapointment as its mainly cereal, toast, croissants, pancakes, omlettes and a selection of cheese and meats, but the evening buffett is fantastic several different meats like chicken, beef, pork, veal and lamb complimented by potatoes, chips, pasta, rice and fresh veg.
We consider that this hotel is value for money and would recommend you to try it.
The rooms are basic but very clean with fresh towels and maid service everyday.
The pool area is great especially if you have kids as there is a life guard and security on all day so you can relax whilst the kids play, there is entertainment around the pool all day everyday too. Dakna is also on hand for water sports like paraglyding, jet ski-ing and quad biking as well as the camel caravan trip which is a must.
Everything is cheap there is 5 of us and lunch time averaged at around 12-16 pounds and that included drinks and ice-creams. One dinar is about 40pence in English.
Please dont be put off and give those hard working lads a chance to make your holiday special. We got home on Sunday 15th June and have booked on Wed 18th to go back next year.
Trust me if you like a laugh and joining in you wont be disappointed for what the holiday costs you.

Theres plenty to do outside the hotel too, if you go shopping expect to be hounded as all the shopkeepers want you to buy from their shop, but just walk away if your not interested.
The overall holiday was fantastic i have't a bad word to say about the hotel at all and will defiantely be going back in the future :O)

Submitted By: Miss M L Mcclintonthe rooms were dated , carpet halfway up teh walls and matress was on a concrete block, in the hotels actual infrastructures as was teh bedside table. the bathroom was old but appered clean although was by far the worst part of the hotel, but the water was always piping hot. the rooms were cleaned everyday and the maids worked hard and were very friendly. they did a good job.
when we went it was to cold to swim and other then the medina and a boat trip there was not much else to do. do not go in teh winter months if you want sun as it is too cold, cran canaria is better, the pools were maintained but it was to cold to go in the outdoor one. there i san on site internet cafe which was a saving grace for me , its only a very small charge £2 or so for 30 mins.
the breakfast was ok, dining room very cramped as they closed the restraunt in the jinene and we ate in the royal as it was low season, people were fighting over the eggs but the waiter worked hard and were very friendly. i really struggle with food on holiday but to my surprise thi swas ok, breakfast fine dinner was ok lack of salad and choice but you could scrape somthing together. drinks were cheap. new yrs eve and xmas eve gala dinner however was a dister, 7 course lasting 5 hours none of which was edible, at all , my mum couldnt touch it and no joking she will eat anything, was very boring waiting 1 hour per course as ther e was 7 course, it slike a bad joke. so if you go at this time of year i really wouldnt bother with those meals, there is not an alternative though!!
sahara explorer and african dreams is a must, simply amazing truly wonderful.
agree aprice with the taxi drivers first and try the hot chocolate, its amazing
if you want acheap but bearable deal go for it, but it i snot luxury
if you have already booked dont worry as we read bad reviews after booking it really is ok just dont expect the ritz

Would highly recomend the tours with the chaps from the pool rather than with the holiday rep definately cheaper. Also better because u know these guys (Habibe, Dakner and Mohamed) only make a small amount for the booking and thats their living to provide for their families.
Advice: Good place, safe plenty to do.
Activities: Recomend going to O'conners Irish bar in El Kantou (5mins walk from hotel) Tunisians very welcoming.
Good for: Beach
