We have just come back from a lovely 11 night break in Sliema Malta. During this time we stayed at the Waterfront Hotel for the duration of our Holiday. Seaview Room: we had a room facing the sea on the third floor and the views were fabulous. The room was bright and nicely... more

Chanced a week b&b on an island we love but at a hotel never used before and had a most relaxing week. The hotel was beyond expectation and well located for restaurants and other facilities. Ideal holiday for a week in the sun with no cares

Just got home from a really enjoyable stay at the waterfront hotel. No problems or complaints. (not with the hotel anyway!). We were expecting temperatures of 30plus so the heat wasn't a shock, better than the 14 degrees which greeted us at Manchester airport. Our air... more

The Waterfront hotel is a very nice hotel. The rooms are really nice and the maid service is very good indeed. If you like a good variety of food this hotel is not for you. They are very limited in their range of menus. The food is good quality but not very varied. They... more

Contrary to some comments, there are a few very nice sandy beaches in Malta. Mellieha is one, golden bay, Gnejna, Pretty Bay and little Armier. We have been going to Malta on and off since 1975, we will be going again this September. The Waterfront is the best hotel we... more

Malta is the ideal destination for a winter holiday as the weather remains temperate from autumn through to spring. It is very suited to the inexperienced traveller as the Maltese speak very good English and they drive on the left-hand side. (Having said that, do beware if... more

Sausage or bacon
We stayed for 2 weeks in March 2007 in a coutyard view room The view was not inspiring at the lower levels but I guess the higher rooms on that side of the building would class as a sea view The rooms are large, spotless and well maintained. It was one of the quietest rooms I have, in my extensive travels, stayed in. There was no noise transmission between rooms so you could not hear someone using the toilet 5 rooms away. The A/C units in the courtyard were noisy but OK with windows shut. Variety at breakfast was OK but the only difference day to day was that there was sausage on the hot buffet one day and fatty bacon the next. A little more imagination required! All in all would recommend this hotel
Good hotel and great experience in Malta
Feb 07. Just come back from spending 10 days at the Waterfront Hotel. Very pleasant, clean and CONVENIENT to all of Malta. Be sure to ask for a top floor room facing the harbour. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The bed was a little harder than I am used to but others may prefer that. I wondered why the airconditioner sometimes did not work. Accidentally discovered that a cutout switch is on the sliding door to the small balcony. The staff leave that door open a fraction after cleaning. So if you want heat or cold, make sure the sliding door is firmly closed. Nice feature was the safe which enabled me to lock away my laptop when away for the day. WiFi is only available in foyer on ground floor, not bedrooms. A bit of a nuisance, especially when one has to plug into the lamp power sockets. Two day and five day internet vouchers are available at desk. Pleasant helpful staff, and meals excellent. A good time of the year to visit Malta. Not crowded. Happen to arrive at a carnival time. Great street entertainment throughout the the island. I took advantage of 5 daily tours. A little easier than finding one's way about the island by car or bus. Loved those antiquated buses. Everyone speaks English. Be sure to go to Gozo the little island to the west, and watch "The Malta Experience." I probably won't go to Malta again, but glad I did once. So much history and the story of the Knights of Malta and the WW11 is fascinating. I imagine committed Catholics would be inspired by the many churches. Recommended.
A pleasant & relaxing break!
We enjoyed a great four-day break at the Waterfront Hotel. This is a well-run hotel, with staff & facilities to ensure a comfortable & enjoyable stay. Our 5th floor room, facing a side street, had an amazing view of the Sliema harbour and across to Valletta. If we had been on a lower floor, or directly at the front of the building, traffic noise might have been a problem at night. The main road seems to be busy at all times. The food is well prepared and varied, but fairly conservative, catering as it does for mainly UK & German guests, and without a regular choice of a Maltese specialty. The salad buffet, however, is outstanding, with more of a Mediterranean influence and a great deal of choice. Breakfast offers the standard UK type of cooked items, plus the continental choices of cold cuts, cheese etc. There are cereals, fresh fruit salad & delicious yogurts too. The room was clean and comfortable, but we thought a continental quilt/duvet would have been preferable to sheets & blankets. To sum up, we would certainly recommend this hotel to others & will probably return for a future stay.
Winter break at The Waterfront
We have just returned from a winter break staying at The Waterfront. The booking was made independently over the internet. The Waterfront is in a good position on Sliema Creek; the views from the balcony of our room were superb and the extra cost for this superior room was well worth it. The housekeeping was good, the staff quietly courteous and the restaurant provided a varied and good quality selection of food. The bus stop is just over the road, and with a five day ticket which cost £6 each we were able to access all parts of the island. Well done Waterfront!
most enjoyable stay
We have just returned to Scotland from the sweltering heat of Malta. We had paid the extra for the room with view over the harbour & worth every penny. The hotel staff were extremely helpful at all times. Special mention must go to Daniel on the reception desk & Charles the restaurant manager. The Waterfront is situated in an ideal location for getting about. The local bus rank & ferry service are just a short walk away, enabling you to travel the length & breadth of this cultural island at very small cost. (1 day ticket approx £3 available on any bus)Excursion to Gozo is highly recommended likewise the Blue Grotto. As a couple we were not looking for any night life, just the chance to relax & enjoy a nice meal in the evening, which this hotel offered us.
Good but not brilliant
Hotel: This is a good hotel in a prime location. (my view 4 star) Room: Very clean and pleasantly decorated. We had a side street room that overlooked some other buildings but we could see Valetta from the balcony. (my view 4 star) Food, Restaraunt: The food was of a very high standard and the service generally was adequate. Our only complaint was one night when half of the restaraunt was reserved for a party. This meant that residents had to squeeze into what room remained. When we arived for dinner, we were turned away as there was no room. I complained to the manager who found us a table straight away. But I witnessed 5 people sharing a table for 4 and some being told by the head waiter to leave their table as it was reserved for others who had been waiting. The service was very poor that night and spoiled what would otherwise have been a perfect stay. (my view 3 star) Amenities: No Gym or sauna which I think is essential for a 4 star hotel. There is a pool on the roof but the fumes from the heating system flu was choking on times especially when there was a wind. Entertainment was vertually non existant. (My view 2 star) I would recommend this hotel if the amenities were better and the service in the restaraunt was improved.
Wonderful Waterfront Hotel
My wife and I spent an extremely pleasant week at the Waterfront, which more than lived up to our expectations based on comments on this website from previous guests. The room was just great and although it was a 'side seaview room' I rated the view as better than that from the front of the hotel. The staff were 100% friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant was superb and the food just great - always a very good selection and all of high quality. Locationwise, the Waterfront is perfectly placed with regular buses passing in front as well as a ferry service to Valletta from the Strand (just up the road). It was our first return to Malta since we lived there from 1960 to 1963 (I was with 38 Squadron at RAF Luqa) and we were both so pleased that at long last we had made the effort to return. We enjoyed it so much that we intend to go again next year and will only consider the Waterfront as our base. Value for money and thousands of happy memories!
Good Hotel, but not good enough to be 4*
My wife and i had a 'sea view' room but for me it is a bit of a liberty calling the view a sea one as we could only see a small amount of the sea. The Regata Restruant needs abit of a redesign ans the loung bar is in a stupid place as it is in the reception but other than these little niggle's it was a nice place to stay but we won't be staying there again.
Loved the views
My husband and I recently returned from a week spent in Malta at the Waterfront Hotel. We were very impressed with the service of the staff, they were only to happy to help. We had a room with an amazing view of the harbour. It was gorgeous and such a beautiful sight to wake up to every morning. We also were treated to breakfast every morning which was on a par if not better than other buffets we had experienced whilst in Europe. It was very hot and humid in Malta when we were there, but the airconditioning worked a treat. The location of the hotel was excellent as it is centrally located to many bus routes, ferry to Valletta and also many tour groups/ cruises. Also being in Sliema there are plenty of shops which stay open all day. We certainly would recommend it to anyone.
Quite a nice hotel
Hotel had a good quality-price relation. Rooms were ok, but we had an airconditionsdevice that leaked. The personnel tried to fix it on several occacions but that didn't work. So a pool of water was on the floor every morning. Good breakfast, with nice view to the bay. Location was fine, by the bay and bussroutes around the island went right by the hotel. The weather was a bit too hot, we were there during the first week of July. Lots to do and see on the island which has an interesting history.
