" Just got home from a really enjoyable... "

Just got home from a really enjoyable stay at the waterfront hotel. No problems or complaints. (not with the hotel anyway!). We were expecting temperatures of 30plus so the heat wasn't a shock, better than the 14 degrees which greeted us at Manchester airport. Our air conditioning was on three settings, the lowest we left on allnight, it could be left on or switched off completletely. Unfortunately we couldn't try a bus or any transport because of a public transport strike. The locals didn't seem to be able to do enough for us Brits, full of apologies because of the strike. Out while midnight plus every night, nice and relaxing, night life quiet. No hoodies or yobs like over here prowling the streets. The local youth were considerate and well mannered.
Beware of Brits masquerading as tourist information they are nothing to do with the tourist information, they are time share or holiday club touts!
We will go back to Malta, hopefully when there isn't a strike and would stay at the Waterfront Hotel.

" My wife and i have just returned from... "

My wife and i have just returned from a week in Malta which we enjoyed staying in The Waterfront Hotel in Sliema. We would raise a few points that anyone considering such a holiday might find helpful, the first being its four star rating, compared to UK hotels more like two to three would be fair . Early july is extemely hot in Malta and as we were put on the top floor with very weak a/c sleep was impossible ,a move down to floor five helped but it seemed that in both rooms a/c was switched off after bedtime, power on the island is very expensive apparently.Overall a reasonable hotel with stunning bay views and friendly staff, the Basilica restaurant was fine with good choice and after moving rooms we were very happy. We will return but earlier in the season as we found it much too hot for normal sightseeing.Sliema is very busy at night with a great atmosphere ,it was nice to wander after dark without feeling at risk. The road surfaces are terrible to match the driving skills ,dont use buses unless you have a strong spine,we had an opentop tour and i think my back will never be the same again. Our holiday was arranged with Thomson (Portland) and would use them for future holidays,Malta is a lovely island and we look forward to visiting again probably staying at the Waterfront

" I have just returned from a week at... "

I have just returned from a week at the Waterfront Hotel. The staff were efficient and very polite at all times.
The room could not be faulted and the sea view with balcony made our holiday, the views are marvelous.
I took my mother aged 89 with us and she was treated with the utmost respect both in the hotel and generally on the island.
The food is not the best that I have had, but we did not go hungry although I was glad that we only booked B&B.
I will return to this hotel, probably in November.

" The Waterfront hotel is a very nice... "

The Waterfront hotel is a very nice hotel. The rooms are really nice and the maid service is very good indeed.

If you like a good variety of food this hotel is not for you. They are very limited in their range of menus. The food is good quality but not very varied. They seem to think that the British only like roast dinners.

There is no entertainment except for one night a week when they have a man playing the organ. For some reason they do not like guests using the stairs in the hotel as they cordon them off, so if you don't like lifts its bad luck.

The rooftop pool area is quite nice and while we were there, there wasn’t many children at all, certainly only children ages over eleven.

So if you want a quiet break with not much going on this hotel will be just right for you.

" Contrary to some comments, there are... "

Contrary to some comments, there are a few very nice sandy beaches in Malta.

Mellieha is one, golden bay, Gnejna, Pretty Bay and little Armier.

We have been going to Malta on and off since 1975, we will be going again this September.

The Waterfront is the best hotel we have stayed in on the Island, I once stayed in the Fortina before it was altered and the Waterfront is far superior to that.

" Our fourth holiday in Malta and this... "

Our fourth holiday in Malta and this time the Waterfront hotel our best stay to date. The staff very helpful, polite, our room was lovely with great sea views, the food was excellent with plenty of choice to cater for all tastes, we will return to this hotel again.

It is so easy to travel around Malta the bus is a delight if a little bumpy! But no journey is too long.

We did have a hire car this time for a few days just to really explore Gozo which was a good idea as we could go all around the island in our own time, very enjoyable.
And after a long day the Waterfront was a nice place to return to.

" Malta is the ideal destination for a... "

Malta is the ideal destination for a winter holiday as the weather remains temperate from autumn through to spring. It is very suited to the inexperienced traveller as the Maltese speak very good English and they drive on the left-hand side. (Having said that, do beware if you hire a car as the locals invariably drive in the shade!).
<br><br>
However this island is not the best choice for beach holidays as there is only one sandy beach at Mellieha Bay. Sliema used to be the capital city, but this is now Valetta, which has a bustling shopping centre, copious places to eat, regular markets plus the main bus terminal. Sliema has a wide selection of hotels and apartments sited along the waterside, all within walking distance of shops, cafes, bus stops and ferry terminals.
<br><br>
The Waterfront Hotel at Sliema is four-star accommodation. The rooms are spacious, with plenty of storage, complete with mini-bar, TV and safe. Tea making facilities are not provided so take your own travel kettle! Bathrooms have terrific power-showers, plenty of hot water and towels, but not a hairdryer in sight - be warned! Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Do discuss any special requirements as they are very accommodating - we specified a double bed (husband hates singles) and a lower floor (vertigo sufferer!), both of which were provided. If you are a light sleeper, you may be better on a higher floor to escape the traffic noise, which can be disturbing.
<br><br>
Also note - access to floors is by lifts only; there are no stairs for public use, which may be a problem for claustrophobics.
<br><br>
The restaurant on the first floor offers wonderful views of the harbour, and caters for most appetites. Breakfasts include cooked or continental and dinners consist of starters, four choices of main meal including a vegetarian option, plus numerous hot and cold desserts. Self-service enables you to eat as much or as little as you fancy.
<br><br>
Travelling in Malta is incredibly easy. The buses are ridiculously cheap, but don’t expect comfort. Some buses are modern, but most are extremely ancient! Ferries cross from Sliema to Valetta every quarter hour throughout the day, plus ferry tours around the harbours, around Malta and to and from Gozo are always popular, but do book these direct with the ferry companies, as bookings made through the hotel are rather pricey.
<br><br>
We prefer walking as the best way to sightsee - even without a map it is difficult to get lost as the island is only 17 miles long! Small as it is, Malta is packed full of interesting places to visit, from the Grand Harbour to the ancient temples (which are older than Stonehenge), to the craft villages where you can watch glass blowing and filigree jewellery being made. Ensure your visit includes the silent city of Mdina, the Mosta Dome where a bomb fell through the roof during a Service but did not explode, and St.Johns Co-Cathedral. Even if you are not religious do visit some of the Churches to see their stunning interiors.
<br><br>
All in all, a beautiful holiday destination with an abundance of archaeology, history, superb architecture or for the more active sea fishing, diving, snorkelling plus fabulous shopping with an Italian flair.
