Barranco Apartments reviews

basic but clean
5 / 10
May 2012, claire wil

After reading a few of the reviews for theses apartments i was a little concerned and was expecting the worse. I traveled with my 17yr old daughter and was pleasantly surprised the apartments are very close to all the amenities and although basic were cleaned every day. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful unlike what I had read in some reviews. The pool area is very small but if you go up onto the roof terrace its lovely and there are plenty of sunbeds you can laze around up there until around 7.pm on a good day. I would suggest when you book to try and book an apartment either on the roof or with a resort view as some of bungalows get no sun at all. All in all if you are looking for some inexpensive clean accommodation you can't go wrong and I would stay at the Barranco again I would also add if you pay 2** prices don't expect 5***** accommodation this accommodation does exactly what it says on the tin basic, clean, safe and friendly.

we went for a week in November,I was abit wary after reading some of the reviews on the bungalows.
But we were pleasently surprised, the bungalows are well situated, they were very clean, good quality beds!! ( makes a nice change)
we had clean towels every other day,the bins were emptied daily and the patio area swept daily.we had one thorough clean in the week.
we found the staff happy and helpful..we did have a flat screen tv on the the wall..it did work but we never used it.
I would say the 'worst' part was the spiral stair case, they are a bit narrow..but we survived..no accidents, even after a few drinks!
The pool is small..but your not far from the beach,we sat by the pool most days.met some lovely people.
Theres no electric kettle but there is one you heat on the hob..plenty of plates etc.
There was 2 mirrors upstairs only a few plugs but enough for us.
We ate out every night, there is a restaurant attached to the barranco,we had breakfast there once, which was very nice, you get 10% off if your staying at the barranco.we also had the 9 euro menu one night ..which again was ok..
theres a lovely chinese down the road on same side as the barranco..fresh food..eat as much as you want..very nice for 7 euros each.
Theres an italian on the oppisite of the road..called martini's..the food there is lovely,@44 euros for 2 courses for two and drinks.
to sum it up,we had a great time, were pleasently surprised and pleased with the barranco..we will be going back!!

My husband and I have just came back from these apartments, and after reading other reviews I was a bit worried about spiral staircase. It was as expected but we managed them without any accidents even though hubby enjoys a beer or 3. The apartments were basic but very clean and we always had plenty of hot water for showers. Every time we left apartment you had to hand key into reception but they were friendly and we had no issues. There is a restuarant joined onto apt called Tango and the food was plentiful and delicious. Our apt. was across from a bar which played loud but not bang bang music until after one in the morning but it did not bother us we were there to enjoy ourselves. On booking holiday I had requested a pool view room I'm glad I didn't get one as the pool is tiny and I enjoyed watching the street down below from the balcony. If you want a cheap basic apt I would recommend these and would return.
I also recommend a chinese restuarant just around the corner across from the El Dorado apartments brilliant service and we went back as food is lush.
BEWARE there is touts everywhere constinetly trying to give you scratch cards don't be fooled just walk away they start off with one talkin to you then as they get their target another joins in and persuades people they have won a prize and talk them into goin off somewhere with them, we watched this happen to a few people one tout started off saying it was a holiday survey and after her pal joined in it continued with the scratch cards. WE found them intimidiated and always avoided them but people who don't go on holiday would be fooled by their patter.
Overall First time in Tenerife it was an enjoyable holiday and great just walking for ages on the promande.
WE went to Jungle Park and would recommend and was fun going through the jungle raid I felt like a kid again.

The location of this acomodation was extremley good located close to many shops, beach and most importantlly the nightlife however the accomodation was evry basic but well worth the sacrifise for the location. If you are young liek myself (17years old) and are looking to go out there to find people of the opposite sex it is impossible to get people back to your room as security is tight and ID is needed and they have pictures on who is staying in the room Also the spiral starircases which heard so much about are lethal even before u have had a drink and are impossible to negotiate after an alll night session. Nightlife stays open to six in the morning. Is going visit linekers bar which is great + yates. These are the places to get drinking before the likes of tramps and rags get going at 3 in the morning

Having read the reviews before I went...

Having read the reviews before I went I was dreading this place. However they were wrong. The Barranco Apts that my wife and I were in (09/11/07-16/11/07) were clean and well stocked with cups, saucers etc. All that you need for self catering. My two daughters who also were with us had their own apartment next door to us and theirs was identical. Clean and well stocked. The reception staff were helpful.
My only gripe with the place was the hot water or more correctly, the lack of it. You either had water that would scald you coming out the tap or most of the time you had a 5 minute stand next to the washbasin flicking your hand in and out of the water, waiting on the chance of hot water coming. Most annoying. The location is excellent.
One major problem and a warning to those with mobility problems, both apartments had spiral staircases and they are NOT easy to get up and down. So any problems with walking etc then this is not the place for you. Other than that you will have a good time.

This is a great budget apartment....

This is a great budget apartment. Excellent central location, very clean apartments, in a great restaurant area. Within walking distance of all the pubs but not a noisy apartment either.
I recommend you insist on getting an apartment near the swimming pool upon booking. There is a big shopping centre across the road, really cheap. It IS a long walk to the beach, probably 20 mins, but most people on holidays only visit the beach a few times. The pool is ideal for swimming. Security is also good at this apartment, and they are not too strict on timekeeping or a bit of noise.
I was part of a group of 8 single lads who rented 3 apartments beside the pool for 1 week. We thought it was an excellent place for the money. There were probably more couples here than singles though. These apartments have a real Spanish feel to them.
One other point: there is a spiral staircase in each apartment for access to the second floor. (Each apartment has 2 levels, cooking downstairs, and beds upstairs) The stairs were no problem to us. They are easily navigated, like a double decker bus. But if you have a broken leg or have walking difficulties you will have problems. I would book this place again. 90%.

Just returned from Barranco apartments, dirty, towels changed once, sheets never, maid changes bin bag daily and that was all the cleaning done.
No balcony or air conditioning. Tiny room and very little cooking facilities i.e. 2 spoons knives and forks 2 cups plates and bowls. Pool in shade most of day. Would not recommend for anyone!

If you go here I pity you this is the worst place i have ever been. Tango is the worst restaurant around I love Tenerife but this hotel is a no no for me.
When I was there going to my room the spiral staircase broken down and I had broken my foot so that is very dangerous. I rate this 1 out of 10

I am just home from Playa De Las Americas and had the time of my life!! All 4 of us were there for the sun, booze and nightlife and were definitely given that!! (2 girls both 18 & 2 boys 17 & 21).
Upon reading reviews about Barranco Apartments I was horrified at my decision and was dreading my 2 week holiday to Tenerife, before I got there I was already worrying about the apartments, HOWEVER!! Barranco Apartments are SUPERB! We found them very clean and tidy the maids were also good they were frequent and had good standards! Barranco Apartments are definitely for the young and lively as its in the heart of Playa De Las Americas!
Barranco Apartments also had a fantastic restaurant downstairs ,"Tango" and a mini-market also on sight. (However, go to the supermarket across the road as its much cheaper!) "Tango" has fantastic food and you also get a 10% discount for staying in Barranco!
We became very close with the staff, they are all AMAZING and was and still am very sad to leave them!
PLAYA DE LAS AMERICAS IS FANTASTIC!! I WILL BE GOING BACK NEXT YEAR AND WILL BE STAYING IN THE BARRANCO APPARTMENTS AGAIN, AND WHO KNOWS MAYBE STAY THERE. I LOVE TENERIFE!!!!!!!!!! XXXXXX

Very basic, staff very strict- must be in before 2am or you need a card and everyone gets counted.
You need to pass over your passports for a day of two when you arrive. maids come quite early and don’t think to knock. Spiral stairs are a bit dodgy, hard to get your case up and you must be very careful. Towels changed twice a week but sheets weren’t changed at all.
Plenty of shops and nightlife is great. most beaches are good.
Las Americas was great but apartments were rubbish.

Set in the heart of this lively resort, the Barranco Apartments are ideal for couples and families looking for the attractions of Playa De Las Americas nightlife nearby. The apartments are basic but pleasantly furnished with some apartments on 2 floors having a spiral staircase. The Playa De Las Americas beach is a mere 400 metres away, with bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity.
