Acora Hotel Reviews
" Few would consider Dusseldorf to be a... "

Few would consider Dusseldorf to be a holiday destination, but our experiences were ones of warmth and fun! Landing after an uneventful flight from East Midlands (Easyjet have great offers) at the new Köln/Bonn airport, we found the trains very regular and got a connecting one directly to the stop closest to our hotel in 12 minutes.
The hotel was found through an Internet site, but my local Co-op Travel centre booked it for us free of charge (ABTA guaranteed therefore,,,). The Acora is a three-star hotel at one star prices, yet the service is superb. Friendly staff and one of the best breakfasts (hot and cold) made this one of the many highlights of the adventure. It is one of a small. private chain of hotels in Germany, so I am waiting to try them all over the next few years. When we were there, the senior managers also did a /spot inspection/, thought I am sure that they found nothing lacking.
Düsseldorf is superb! We ate Korean. Italian and German cuisine, both in the Altstadt and suburbs. The Altbier has a great flavour, resembling mild more than lager and one cannot escape a beer by the Rhine - another highlight of the holiday.
Duisburg (for microbreweries), Woppertal (for the world’s oldest suspended monorail), Cologne (for the Dom and the tourist routes) and Bonn ( to see the city that was the capital until the last decade) are all easily and cheaply accessible. The ICE trains are worth a trip, although when we used one to go to Köln (Cologne), we had to stand al the way and it was delayed - the one and only time we had this problem.
Use day tickets from the machines at the stations to travel on the trains, buses and U-Bahn (subway) all day for up to 5 people. Use the PennyMarkt near the hotel to get lunch in advance and,,,,, HAVE FUN!!

A lovely atmosphere with highly friendly people. Hotel staff are friendly and polite. A fine place to visit for a short break. Good value for money too. Take plenty of warm clothes though!
