We visited the Bellavista for a late...
8 / 10
Dec 2006, dickinson

We visited the Bellavista for a late break this year. On first impressions the hotel was clean and welcoming after making our own way in a hire car from the airport we were all a little shell shocked.
Our daughter uses a wheelchair and we had been recommended the Bellavista by a work colleague as it has lifts, although the lift in reception was always crowded by chairs and a table that we repeatedly had to move.
The room was clean and linen was changed daily, the tea/coffee facilities were a bit measly even though we had paid extra for these, so we bought our own! We were bed & breakfast as we spend a lot of time out and about, this was always adequate and substantial. We ate out in Buggiba centre nightly, which is only a short walk from the bellavista about 10mins, there is a wide variety of restaurants and bars to suit all.
The outdoor pool was very cold as the sun only falls directly on it for a couple of hours in the morning as there are high walls surrounding all sides. There was an indoor pool in the basement of the hotel that we used and was very private and quiet. Parking is a pain as the hotel is on the main road and there is no designated parking spaces. We received a parking ticket despite displaying our disabled badge, you live & learn, so beware.
The hotel staff were very friendly. The other guests were mostly middle-aged whilst we were there and the evening 'entertainment' was a little poor, but all in all not a bad budget hotel that we would recommend and would certainly consider visiting again if we were to revisit Malta.
We shall not visit Malta again with a wheelchair user though as we found it generally unwheelchair friendly.

Nov 2006, Mr K Ainsworth

We arrived after dinner time, but were accommodated in the small dining room as the hotel is open to local people after 20.00 hrs. We were moved downstairs on Sunday to accommodate local people again.
Food not really 4* but some nice things. I wouldn’t say it was entirely all inclusive as snacks must be paid for after 15.00 and cakes after 16.00. You need to catch a bus to main resort or 1/2hour walk or hire a car.
The outside pool is north facing and the indoor pool is very small. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is clean. We had a room at the back recommended as the road at the front is noisy.
We really loved our stay in Malta mainly as we hired a car for 7 days and didn't spend that much time in the hotel, I would rate the Bella vista as 3*.

The Bella Vista is masquerading as a...

Aug 2006, chale

The Bella Vista is masquerading as a four star hotel and guess what, surprise surprise it is not. If the hotel was based in the UK it would be done under Trades Description Act, this is not a hotel it’s a cess pit. If I could give it a zero star that would be too much.
The food was so terrible I would not feed it to my dog, if I had one. The rooms were disgustingly dirty, the sheets had what resembled dried custard on them. The staff are extremely surly and lugubrious. We stayed for one night and left demanding our hotels get changed or we would sue and ask our credit card company to withhold payment.
We were told the beach was 10 minutes away, 10 minutes by Concorde! What beach more like a rock fest. Nightlife is nowhere to be seen the hotel is miles away from any decent restaurants; it’s a minute Blackpool without the fun. Please please don't stay at this hotel you will get seriously depressed. Staying at this hotel could seriously affect your mental health.

This is not a 4 star hotel as you...
4 / 10
Aug 2006, Mrs S Smart

This is not a 4 star hotel as you would rate a hotel in the UK, it is equivalent to a 2star hotel according to UK rating. It has everything that you would require in a hotel but they are all too small and of a poor quality.
There are heavy restrictions on dining hours and the bar staff are the most unfriendly that I have ever encountered, the buffet breakfast is a poor selection and the dinners are reheated from the previous days menus, ie we ate the same pork chops and beef for three days running and it got more and more chewy with each day. Also there are flies all over the snack bar and the main dining room.
The rooms are adequate but they don't seem to provide double beds only twins and they tend to come apart as soon as you push them together. We did not pay much for this holiday so we really can’t complain and we would go back to this hotel because we know what to expect but would expect to pay even less for it than we did previously.

Jun 2006, Mrs G Wragg

Having read the reviews of the Bella Vista hotel, we were not looking forward to our weeks holiday at this hotel. However, the rooms were a good size, clean, and the beds were very comfortable, also from our room we had a good pool view.
Although the sun was only around the pool until 1.15pm, it did mean there was no shortages of sun loungers! Even though the sun was not round the pool area there is a sun roof terrace which remains sunny and hot all day, also there is a bar up there! As the pool became quite cold, the kids went in the indoor one a lot. Also there are two pool tables in the hotel so there was something for them to do.

The food was very good, although we only got bacon once for breakfast, and there was beef for dinner 3 days running, but apart from that the food was very good. The hotel is on a busy road, but you can go through the back door for a short cut to Bugibba. There is also a courtesy bus that takes you to Qawra bus station, and will pick you up from the bar if you ask! We found an excellent bar called Murphy's Bar, which is well worth a visit.
Although we would not revisit Malta, we would recommend the Bella Vista Hotel.

Nov 2005, Not Specified

I went on holiday here to be able to relax and not to think about any problems at home but when I arrived I did not know any problems would happen here. The hotel was a 4 star hotel with all inclusive option which I had paid for and taken. As far as I was aware the all inclusive option meant that everything that was on the house and there was no se limit - but here there was.
You had breakfast that did not have any variety what so ever, lunch that was only eaten once by myself and my friends and dinner that was the same almost every night. The food was not nice at all and I ended up eating out in the end. The best thing that I had was a snack from the bar that was only allowed from 11-3. I could not believe the restrictions. I will never go again to this hotel.

Sep 2005, Sheila Edwards

We arrived in the small hours of the morning. The reception was manned but we had to find our own room and carry our cases.
All we wanted at that time was a wash-up and a sleep after a ‘cuppa’. That was the first problem. NO tea making facilities. We went downstairs again, nothing till the housekeeper arrived, and it would cost extra!!. We couldn’t clean our teeth as the water taps had "Do not drink" on them. After a couple of hours sleep we came down to breakfast. Full English it was not. Bland sausage Hard eggs but plenty of baked beans. D.I.Y toast on one antiquated toaster that all the guests had to queue up to use. There was plenty of fruit juice but it was not fresh.
The outlook from the room was apparently one of the best. Standing on the 2'' wide balcony we could see (if we looked left) the valley, To the right and straight ahead were apartments crammed in to about 15'' from the balcony.
Dinner? well we are not fussy eaters but the choice between dried up fish in a spicy sauce or curled up meat and dried up veg was hard to digest, pardon the pun!!. We did try for three days and then ate all our meals down at the local square. Cheap tasty and plenty of it.
The air conditioning in the room did not work, the fan was noisy but that was better than sweating all night. The beds were clean and comfortable and the bathroom was 90% clean. It was extra for use of the safe in the room and the fridge.
Bought bottled water for morning tea and teeth cleaning Not a place for children or disabled but definitely a place to talk about if you have a good sense of humour and can see the funny side of a disaster Will go to Malta again but far away from the Bella Vista.

This hotel was sold as 4 star hotel...

Sep 2005, Mr G B Young

This hotel was sold as 4 star hotel but it is over rated the hotel it self was ok but the room we were given was on the top floor at the front which was ok nice view (apart from the small building site opposite) but as we had asked for a quiet room and this one faced a busy road and was very noisy at all times including the night so you could not leave the doors open so it got very warm in the room there was air conn but again noisy.
The food was ok but the choice was not very good at breakfast there was 3 types of eggs fried, scrambled or boiled with either sausages or bacon but not both & baked beans, there was cereal or cold meat & cheese. the evening meal consisted of 2 meat dishes (1 usually beef)or 1 fish the starters consisted of salad & cold meat, a pasta dish or soup, for dessert it was a choice of 2 sorts of mushy cream things or cheese & crackers we did find out half way through our stay you could ask for ice cream. the staff where ok but could learn to smile a bit more. as for Malta this was our first trip and enjoyed the island the bus service was good but a little manic, the weather was great, the diving was worth a try there are lots of places offering all sorts of dives we where staying in Qawra but used Buddies in Buggiba, very helpful for a novice.
After reading through this review it might seem i have been a bit fussy but having stayed at some good hotels this one is not a 4 star, although it didn't spoil our holiday it could have been a lot better.

It’s a shame your ratings don’t...

Aug 2004, Ms L Haney

It’s a shame your ratings don’t go into minus figures... I have been generous and given it a 1...how on earth this hotel can be rated as a 4* hotel is beyond me.
We arrived after travelling through the night only to find we hadn’t got a room on arrival...we had to sleep on a camp bed down by the games room, this happened to 20 of us on Sunday and again to a party on Tuesday and again Wednesday during our stay. The food and I use the term loosely was appalling, words cannot describe it, even the flies had sense to stay away.
The view from the hotel was of a building site and a main road where drivers came screeching round the corner at all hours of the morning.
The pool area should be described as a pond with 100 sunloungers crammed so close together sardines in a tin have more room, the scum layer of grease floating on the pool and Jacuzzi was a nauseous sight.

Jul 2004, Mr D Hanson

Have just returned from a week at this hotel and would have no hesitation in recommending it. The hotel is smartly and stylishly decorated, and both the rooms and public areas were clean. The food was generally very good, though it would have been nice to have seen a few more local dishes. I cannot praise the staff highly enough - all were friendly, spoke good English and no request was too much trouble for them.
They could certainly set a good example to many British hotel staff. Rooms are air conditioned, which was invaluable in a very hot week. The room safe was another very useful feature. The only drawback to the hotel is that it is a little way outside the centre of the resort - about a ten-minute walk to the shops, bars and bus terminus.

The Bella Vista Hotel rating is a 4*....
2 / 10
Feb 2004, Mrs C Boyles

The Bella Vista Hotel rating is a 4*. My opinion, it should be a 2*. In the brochure a friend posted to me it states - Newly built. The hotel has been renovated, not newly built. The workmanship is very shabby. You have holes in the ceiling where the old lights used to be. The shower was very nice and powerful though. The maids did not make our bed up properly nor clean your room adequately. The heating system and fan operates perfect. You arrive for breakfast. The tablecloths, salt & pepper holder are dirty. The breakfast is the same each day. Only on Sunday's you get bacon. For your evening meal it’s also the same. Whatever you don’t eat on the day you will be eating it tomorrow dressed up in a different dish. The ice cream and fruit salad was the only thing that was very nice. Twice my husband and I had to go out for an evening meal. On the floor, around and under the dinner table was dirty and had not been cleaned. They advertise a gym in the hotel. The equipment is very loose and rusted and needed attention. The swimming pools were ok even though I did not attempted to enter. The buses were frequent and close by. Was able to get around quite easily. The local bars and restaurants were within walking distance. The staff were fine and most of the time, helpful. The hotel had a shuttle bus service (free of charge) to the bus terminal, which was good. There was a fridge in the room but was only aware when we arrived that there was a charge for it. This was not highlighted in the brochure. The games room - Both computers were out of order, one out of the two pool tables were out of order. There was not much left to play with.
If I knew then what I know now I would have spent the extra money and stayed at the Hilton hotel instead
