" well , where do i start, the good... "

well , where do i start, the good things first, tidy hotel , good pool. end of! now for the bad, food discusting, slops served like prison food, any complaints you were told in more ways one to find alternative ways , keep your comments to yourself , or basically your card was marked by the so called manager, a aussy/ greek called john who was/is a rude, gobby , arrogant man who looks like hes had more slaps than youd care to remember, but no matter how much we tried to explain where it needed some work he would basically tell you where to go and treat you as a threat... very very uncomfortable, but the food was awful, no greek food,as such, no markers to tell you what you were puttin on your plate and the snacks, ice cream container, well where were they? the fridge was dirty and the ice cream was in a tub and like butter! the drinks were ouzo , beer and some cheap brandy, wine was warm and vinergary! we were told the blue lagoon, a 5 star complex furnished thye place and left this fella in charge, well what a mistake and the season aint even startedc yet!! the blue lagoon was brilliant in every way, check that one out and see the differance, yes two stars more but worlds apart!! be careful, be weary, if you think this is over the top, try it... i dare ya!! we saw people leave, many ate out, did not want confrontation!!! something needs changing asap, or that hotel will suffer worse write ups than this...

" excellant hotel, just been recently... "

excellant hotel, just been recently re furbished with very nice rooms, the pool area is lovely and the grounds fantastic. We hired bikes from a place up the road, cheaper than at the hotel! and this was a wonderful way to see kos town. Do not book with the reps for trips out as it is much cheaper else where. FOOD!!!! totally crap, nothing for children, no idea what you were eating as no labelling. no fruit except dodgy oranges at breakfast. Do not go all inclusive as you will have to spend money on eating out. Lots of germans, not that that is a problem but the cook definately catered for them and no english although I went there to experiance Greek food of which there was hardly any. I rate a 5 only because the hotel, grounds and staff were great, but somebody get rid of the cook... maybe they should have spent less on the plasma tvs in all room which only show greek tv and the new sunloungers and dining furniture and spent more on better quality food!! wish I had taken notice of the reviews before I spent a fortune on the holiday and paying for food.

" Our room was pleasant enough, marble... "

Our room was pleasant enough, marble flooring which kept it cool and no need for air con as the balcony had a slatted door which we kept shut at night, allowing a cool breeze in. Unfortunately, it was lacking: music - the built in radio did not work, which was not rectified, despite our asking, no soap, shampoos, etc, no hair dryer and no tea/coffee facilities - we asked but were told we didn't have a studio room, so couldn't have the facilities. We bought a small travel kettle and tea/coffee etc.

The grounds have seen better days. The pool was ok, although the children's pool was tiny. The volleyball court was not used and was over grown. There were broken paving slabs and broken drain covers all over, which, as it was unlit at night, made for some scary walks back to the room.

The reception/bar area was comfortable and so was the veranda, where we spent most evenings.

We went all inclusive - never again! Breakfast was probably the best meal, eggs, fried and scrambled, bacon (salty), toast, cereals etc, plus slices of cheese and ham. The lunches and evening meals were laughable, though! Stewed, salty, fatty meat, pasta, the occasional pie and a very odd salad bar. We think it catered mainly for the German and/or Dutch guests as most things were in sour cream or were pickled. So unbalanced were the meals, that I was forced to eat COLD brussel sprouts, served on the salad bar, just to get some green veg!

The drinks were limited, and yes, after 11pm you had to pay. I developed a taste for Metaxa though. No diet drinks. The snacks at the bar were Ok if you got to them in the first 5 mins, after that, they were not so good. Basically, what ever was left a breakfast - cheese, ham, boiled eggs, were made into the sandwiches and left, covered, but not air tight and certainly not refrigerated, all day. The afternoon tea 'cakes' were hard, stale biscuits.

There wasn't anything to do in the hotel in the evening (unless you count watching the chef and his friends get drunk and dance Zorba-style as entertainment). We went to both the hotels either side of the Athina and had much better times there.

I feel the hotel was much more geared up to the Germans and or Dutch tastes, as they seemed to enjoy what was on offer more than the Brits did.

" If you have booked a vacation at... "

If you have booked a vacation at Athina, you have made a big mistake! Not joking either. I’m not a critical person but I’m afraid the stay at this hotel has left me no choice!

1. We went all inclusive & the food was just disgusting and looked like it was being used into different meal times if not used? There was very little choice of food and the dessert was laughable: sliced water melons in a bowl to pick from everyday! If you have kids you are going to struggle alone just with the food (No chips or Chicken Nuggets, which seems to be the flavour of the year with children).

2. The pool snack bar was, well, a bar no snacks in sight? Oh sorry, apart from 'Scooby Snacks'(Dog biscuits!) The pool itself was in fact ok just a tad small for my liking, but enjoyable.

3.The apartments are very small with no wardrobe space for three people & you seem to attract a lot of insects at night. Best bet to avoid being bitten is keep the veranda door shut and keep the air-conditioning on as you leave the room(but you have to pay for the air-conditioning £10 + £20 deposit) but it’s worth it to keep the bugs out, because it will be nice and cold & refreshing when you come back in from the very hot weather.

4. The all inclusive bar was a joke. First of all they only serve 'Ouzo' & 'Brandy' for sprits! I’m not joking either. The beer was ok I guess and you have a choice between white & red wine which can change tastes as they don’t use the same brand once they replenish.

If all inclusive, you are only to be served upto 11pm after that they insist you pay! Why? Isn’t that the point of paying that bit extra for an all-inclusive holiday? It simply wasn’t on!

In conclusion the holiday was very disappointing & I strongly advise not to choose this hotel it will be a very painful & frustrating for all involved.

Thanks for taking the time to read this especially for families with small children.

" I completely agree with the comments... "

I completely agree with the comments above. The hotel doesn't have a lot of facilities (and some of the facilities it does have, are in a pathetic state, like the midget golf course) and the quality (as well as the variety) of the food is not very good. Also, you can only have dinner between 7 and 8 'o clock in the evening and if you don't get there at 7, there's a good chance that they'll have run out of some of the food already by the time you arrive for dinner.

" The hotel is far from anywhere - if... "

The hotel is far from anywhere - if you don't want to rent a bike or car for the whole stay you'll need to depend on public transportation. A single ticket to Kos cost EUR 0.70 (if you buy it on the bus you pay EUR 0.90).

Don't expect much from a 3* hotel. The rooms are small, so are the bathrooms and balconies. The greens surrounding the hotel look miserable (not to say pathetic). I found the meals horrible. No choice for breakfast, cold and recycled waste for dinner. Repulsive indeed.

The service is very friendly, English and German speaking. I truly believe that they'll do their best to assist you, that's Athina's strong point.
