My husband and I have just returned...

My husband and I have just returned from a week’s all inclusive holiday at the Siva Grand Beach Hotel. We were a little worried about what we would find when we got there after reading some reviews but found they were unfounded.
One tip though is that in Egypt it is customary to tip, if you do this on the first couple of days (it is only a couple of pounds) then you will never finish a drink without another one being brought over for you (no standing in queues at the bar- you wont get that in Spain.) If you don’t have any small Egyptian notes then you can give pound or fifty pence coins. they are just as well received.
There were plenty of sunbeds around the pool and at the beach, however if you want a bed in the shade by the pool you will need to be up early as these go fast, and due to the red hot temperatures it is not surprising why.
When we walked out on to the beach on the first day the view was breathtaking.
We found the food to be very good, and you have quite a good selection at all times of the day. if you want chips you can get them at the pool grill in the afternoon every day. I would however suggest that you exercise caution with the soups as I am not totally sure that these are made with bottled water. This was the only difference between what myself and my husband ate during the week and I had a dodgy stomach, and he did not.
The reception staff were excellent, when we misplaced our room card we were issued with another without any problems and we were able to keep our room on from the 12 o’clock check out time to 10 pm due to our late flight, free of charge.
Our room boy was called Adel and our room was always clean and tidy, apart from the second last night when we were only left with a hand towel to dry ourselves with???
Everywhere in the hotel is spotless but the one thing that I found a little intimidating was the fact that there was always an attendant (a male) in the ladies toilets and when there wasn’t one there was never any toilet paper!!.
The entertainment seemed to be quite good for the children and those active types but could become quite irritating for the adults during the day as they would constantly play the same music and would practise all the parts of the shows that they obviously could not get right, over and over again. The singer at the Oasis restaurant at night was really bad, he sings all different genres of music and absolutely murders ALL of them!! Has to be heard to be believed.
All in all, we had a really good time and loved the hotel and would recommend it to anyone, our only regret is that we did not go to the pyramids. However, the next time we visit Egypt we will do the cruise down the Nile and all the sightseeing first and then stay at the Siva Grand Beach for the second week.
My last tip is for the airport at Hurghada, check out the ladies toilets. they have Christmas decorations up? in August??, also take some toilet roll with you as you will need it.

Likes : excellent swimming pool, pool bar, air conditioning, clean, scenic views, entertainment.
Dislikes : Rude staff ,for instance the ice cream man would only allow children 2 ice creams per day and it was meant to be all inclusive .Staff generally don’t like kids.
Would I go there again - no.

The hotel was brill, kids loved it,...

The hotel was brill, kids loved it, and it is a huge hotel, with as equally extra large double bed. The rooms were well decorated and clean. if you tip your cleaner they will go out of there way to make sure you get a fresh bottle of mineral water to clean your teeth, (or keep in the stocked mini bar, that you have to pay for, the label is always different so they won’t charge you).
All the staff were friendly (except for the ice cream bloke who I am sure didn’t like kids and kept so no if they went too often) but then kids always find a way around this and said it was for their 'mum, dad, friends mum' you name it they all did it so don’t let it put yours off. As for tipping we tipped waiters for service (we didn’t even do it every time, just tipped the waiter for the first and last round a couple of quid). They will then bend over backwards for you. They will see you coming and pull out your chair or fetch you a extra chair if needed, fetch you drinks before finishing (only good if you don’t change your drink!!), bring crisps and popcorn for the kids and tell you their life story every night.
The reception, waiters and bell boy will gladly change notes for smaller ones, we didn’t bother with coins as they are not worth that much. 50p and £1.00 coins also go down well for tips and in shops. It’s amazing what you can buy with a couple of quid. (Bet it will all change in a few years when they cotton on to the prices of the rest of Europe?)
Food was good; there was a wide choice every night and two restaurants to choose from, dinner time had a burger and chips style bar and a beach restaurant serving full buffet lunches. The beach also had a grill bar with barbecued seasonal vegetables which was to die for. The beach is also fantastic, shallow water and hundreds of fish.
The entertainment was disappointing but we made lots of friends with other families so we didn’t mind. The resort around is up and coming, plenty of gift shops, leather and craft shops. In another 10 years it will be a huge resort. We will definitely be returning soon.
We also spent a week on a Nile cruise. Another fantastic place to be with fantastic sights, history and culture. All in all it was a fantastic holiday, we Brits are out numbered by the German guests as it is a very large hotel but there was still plenty of English people around.

We spent the second week of our holiday at this hotel and were very happy with the accomodation, we stayed in a bungalow. The room was clean and tidy with a huge bed and bathroom.
We were in the minority as most guest were German but we didn't feel that we were second best as all staff very helpful. The room boy did ask to buy our CD player a few times, but not sure he really wanted to pay for it.
The one thing that was lacking was the choice in the evening entertainment, either watching a 20 show or listening to live music for and hour. Once out side the hotel there was very few places to walk to or shop or just stop for a drink. But on the whole we had a good time and would recommend it if you want a quiet relaxing break.

Not Recommended for the English holiday-maker.
OK. But our WHOLE experience this holiday was not good.
We were able to make the most of it though. The weather was good this time of year. Have now visited Hurghada Easter (March- April) Summer (Early August) and Winter (For Christmas) and this was the Best weather-wise.
This hotel is not for the faint- hearted. Smelly bathroom, Dusty floors, and a room boy(cleaner) begging for money. Always served last as a Brit. Some staff were rude. and reception totally unhelpful. We heard many people complaining. Water in bathroom often cold too.

We had a late booking and received...

We had a late booking and received all the services and amenities of a full priced all inclusive holiday.
We were impressed with the large airy reception hall and upon checking in the receptionist noted that my husband had walking difficulties and used a stick so immediately upgraded us to a ground floor room in the hotel (we should have been in the grounds) so that we were close to the hotel main amenities e.g. restaurants, bars, etc.
It was a spacious room with air-conditioning and fridge, which had water and drinks to be paid for - HOWEVER, we were able to get unlimited water and soft drinks from the bars and put them in the fridge for our use with no trouble.
The food was good but did repeat itself the second week. The staff were very friendly and if you tipped them they redoubled their efforts to be helpful but even if you didn’t tip they always had a smile.
Pool and beach towels were provided on demand and there were always spare beds at the beach and pool whatever the time. Plenty of activities day and evening although the nightly shows were not for us.
Plenty of places to go out to and easily accessible. Local buses cheap and plentiful (like dolmus in Turkey). Shopping ‘downtown’ could be stressful if you listened to all the shopkeepers pleas to go to them but a firm no was all it took. If you do decide to buy - HAGGLE! They expect to come down in price. Snorkelling trips best booked from the beach - cheaper than tour operators and better.
If you like the Caribbean weather but not the long flights, this is the area to go. We are definitely revisiting in 2005.
