Staff... your reputation in their hands
When I have a bad experience with a hotel, I am normally philisophical enough to put it down to bad luck but my recent experiences at Crowne Plaza (formerly Moathouse) in Glasgow must be heard. When I stayed here with my wife, we attended a large function in the hotel on a Sat evening. Things did not start well as after waiting to check in, we were sent off to a room that was very very tired and frankly dirty. Before we got there however we had to wait a full 10 mins in the queue for the lifts (something that became a regular feature... more
Management response from DJMcVEY

I was extremely concerned to learn of your disappointing stay and have tried to contact you directly so as we could discuss your stay personally. As I am sure you can appreciate, we consider all feedback invaluable and use it to review all aspects of the hotel. I would therefore appreciate the opportunity to follow up personally. I can be contacted on the hotel telephone number.

Good facilities
Just back from a few days at this hotel. It's still undergoing refurbishment, so there is some noise during the days and painters in the halls. Some even directly outside my room, which I was a little surprised by! Having said that, I enjoyed my stay. Having the pool/steam room/sauna/jacuzzi largely to myself each day made it worthwhile! The staff weren't the most knowledgeable or helpful. For example, there was a notice in the bathroom stating that I could get cotton wool by calling reception. This turned out not to be the case,... more
New Rooms
Great views, new rooms are very nice.Got a good deal as we were attending concert at the SECC.We will be back.
Great stay
I am so glad I stayed. The hotel is currently undergoing a (much needed)refurbishment and I got one of the new rooms...excellent! No issues at all with service, staff friendly.Hotel has a large car park and it is attached to the SECC which was good as we were attendig a concert. Will choose here again. Very busy bar.
its happening on the clyde
I have just returned from a 1 night stay at the Crowne Plaza on the banks of the river clyde in Glasgow. The hotel is going through a refurbishment at present but we had a great time. The bedrooms are clean and of a good size, the restaurant had a carvery breakfast and dinner which was consistently good at both times. The staff were very helpfull in all depts expecially the bar where johnny proved to be a star. It was extremely busy due to a concert next door at the SECC but he maintained a professional approach at all times. The... more
not Crowne Plaza standard
I agree with other reviews. This place needs some serious work. the rooms are old, the towels are stained, the restaurant is not good, the place is understaffed, the pool is very cold. but it has its good points, like the price, the view from the room 706 (amazing), and the breakfast.
Management response from DJMcVEY

Thankyou for your feedback. I'm sorry you were disappointed with your stay and in particular the standard of room. We acknowledge that our rooms need attention and have already started on a major refurbishment programme that will result in every bedroom getting fully refurbished and a total redecoration of the ground floor areas including the introduction of a brand new restaurant. We are also introducing two floors of club rooms and a club lounge. Should you decide to pay us another visit, please contact us as we would appreciate the opportunity to show you the improvements that have already been made.

Not four star
We have just returned from an anniversary weekend in Glasgow. We booked the Crown Plaza as this range of hotel usually has a good reputation. Well our stay was a complete disappointment. On arrival at the hotel we found the hotel was undergoing refurbishment nothing to indicate this on the website at the time of booking. We were given a twin room which was damp dark and next to one of the areas of refurbishment just not acceptable. On complaint they did give us a nice refurbished room on the sixteenth floor. The next morning the... more

Very sorry you were disappointed with your stay, particularly as it was a special occasion. As you highlighted, the hotel is undertaking a major refurbishment which will include all bedrooms and the public areas. We are also planning to increase our restaurant capacity in an effort to accommodate more guests at breakfast. We have arranged for our websites to be updated to announce our refurbishment. I have also reviewed the permitted hours of work with the contractors. I agree 8am is totally unacceptable. Please contact us should you be planning to revisit. We would be pleased to show you the improvements. Thanks again.
