The Fabulous Hotel Royal Kenz, Port El Kantoui
from A TripAdvisor Member
Have spent 12 fantastic holidays at the Royal Kenz Hotel over the last 7 years. Everything about the hotel is excellent particularly now that the lobby and dining rooms have had a refurbishment. The rooms have always been good and the room service is second to none. Laundry is done in 24 hours and so cheap its unbelievable. All of the staff from the room maid to the Reception Manager are so helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble for anyone at the Royal Kenz. The absence of children is an absolute blessing and if you are looking for a relaxing break with plenty of sun, sea and sand then Tunisia and particularly the Royal Kenz is the place for you. The swimming pools are set in the gardens and drinks are served to you on your sun lounger. The food is excellent with a wide range of vegetarian and meat meals every day, there is of course some of the local cuisine to try and the vegetable stew is highly recommended. There are two additional restaurants, one french and the other italian the food in these is exquisite and you need to book as soon as you arrive - the booking room is maintained on the reception desk so book early to avoid disappointment. Port el Kantoui is a 30 minute stroll from the hotel or 5 minutes in a taxi for a £1.50. Once in the Port you will find a fabulous marina filled with boats and katamarans from all over the world. Loads of restruants and shops where you can bargain for everything you want but remember don't accept the first price they over you - half it and half it again then haggle a bit more to get the price you want. If you want a really good night's entertainment make sure that you go to see the Fabulous Changing Ladies while you are in Tunisia, they visit each of the hotels in Port El Kantoui and your holiday rep can let you know where they are performing, the cost is a ridiculous 10 dinar for the evening and you are guaranteed a fantastic night out -a must see for everyone. If you like excitement I highly recommend a visit to Forest Moto Quads, they provide excellent service, good value and are wonderful people. In fact my husband, Steve, and I love the Royal Kenz so much that when he passed away in Sept 04 we had his ashes scattered on the quad bike track near the hotel. For personal reasons I do not wish to share photographs of our last visit however I am attaching some from our holiday in March 2004. I hope you enjoy these and that you do visit the Royal Kenz Hotel. If you want any more information please feel free to email me. I am going back to the Royal Kenz in June 2005 and again in Sept 2005 and am looking forward to these visits very much.

We Flew to tunisia with brittania airways very old plane but still it got us there. we arrived at the royal kenz hotel and where very surprised what a lovely clean hotel, we where met in reception and our luggage was taken to our room for a small tip . the room was very good very clean and cool . hotel meals where a good standard but do not drink the water it gives you the tummy cramps. there was staff everywhere and all were very pleasent and obliging we have not come accross a nicer bunch of people. the hotel pool was excellant clean water towel supplied and waiter service around the pool it is only a short walk to the beach where you will find plenty to occupy you hang glideing jet ski banana boat beach sellers but the best part it was peacefull. the only fault was the jelly fish in the water they are constantly there we saw at least four people stung . the beach cafe was well stocked and food was available. this is an adult only hotel although thomas cook put a couple of familys in on accomadation on arrival but there is nothing for children at this hotel. The two day tour of the country is a must to ride on a camel in the sahara was brillaint and to see a salt lake forming beneath your feet is something to be believed the mosques are very good and we reccomend this tour as a must but take the gold tour you will need the extra room on the coach. all in all a very good holiday that we would reccomend.
beware room 02

Had a week at the 4* Kenz with Thomson’s. On arrival given room 02 next to reception. Beware this room is noisy, scruffy and needs totally refurbishing, compared to the others we saw it is way below standard. The rest of the Hotel is ok. Some building work going on in the dining room and grounds but it should be finished by now. Food was good (and I’m a chef) though as with all buffets it’s a bit difficult to get it piping hot. The French restaurant is well worth booking as soon as you get there to avoid disappointment. The animation team were quite entertaining, setting fire to themselves and the backcloth during the Riverdance routine. I wish I had a camcorder with me that night; I could have paid for the trip by sending the clips in to the TV. In all a peaceful resort and I agree with others, don’t go if you’re looking for a wild time. I would return but only for some early season sun and relaxation.
Great Holiday

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Royal Kenz Hotel and have only good reports to give. The location was ideal the fool excellent, staff friendly and helpful. The only down side was the sharing of tables at mealtimes it can be a bit awkward. However the absense of Kids really makes a difference, its time other Hotels/Operators take note. Would definately go back.
Excellent!

My sister and I have just had a week long break in this hotel and we simply could not fault it. After reading the reviews here, we weren't sure what to expect (We're 25 and 27 ) but it really was excellent, not only in comfort but in value for money. The hotel itself is clean, well maintained and the staff are very helpful,(nothing is too much trouble) the food was excellent and you would imagine that a buffet half board might mean eating the same thing at all meals, but not at all - there was a superb variety of really tasty food for each meal. There are two bars but neither are noisy, you can just sit quietly and enjoy the cocktails and be waited on hand and foot which is just fab! Even though the weather was not amazing, the hotel is near to a lovely beach (3 min walk), the pools are clean and inviting, the waiter service by the pool is non intrusive and it's in a peaceful location. Don't expect a huge nightlife in this resort, but the hotel staff do their utmost best to provide something for everyone in the Starlight rooms each night and you can either choose to go along or just enjoy the bars. Do take a look on the iberostar website as we discovered that there are some excellent views of the hotel and it does look like the pictures! (For once!) Would we return? Absolutely, it's a child a child free, luxurious 4 star hotel and for two teachers, provided an excellent week of rest and relaxation - don't overlook it!
Superb Hotel

I just returned this week from a 7 day stay at the Royal Kenz Hotel. Although it was geared towards the older generation, my friend and I (both in our 30's) had a lovely holiday here. The Hotel was fabulous - mostly because the staff were just brilliant, very attentive, and always willing to help. The food in the restaurant was very good, we always found vegetarian options and enjoyed all the meals. The room was of a good standard, and although the hotel was being painted and refurbished a little we found it extremely comfortable and enjoyed all the facilities. The local nightlife was a little disappointing but this was due to it not being high season. The Pool was very clean and the sunbeds were plenty, and an optional cushion! The beach was very close, and again a little cold out of season but during high season I could imagine it being a wonderful beach as it was clean, with white sand, and beach bars, sports facilities etc. For a relaxing and enjoyable break I would definitely return to this Hotel. Especially for the excellent service.
A Good hotel but a bit rough around the edges.

Just got back from Royal Kenz Hotel. Not a bad hotel stayed in better in Tunisia. The rooms were adequate but a bit noisy and the bed linen was a bit worn. The view was good onto the pool. The entertainment was okay but geared towards the ... err... older generation. If your under 40 dont go here. Maybe different in the Summer. The food was fab and the service was very good. The only things that let the hotel down was the cleanliness of the indoor pool and the gym which has pieces of equipment held together with rope! We went on the 2 day desert safari which is more bus than safari but it was a great experience. But shop about between the tour reps because some are cheaper than others. We used the thompson rep although we booked with T.Cook and she was v friendly and although her trip cost more the number of people on the bus was reduced and the guide was brill. Would i return to this hotel.. Nope! I would go to the Hotel Phenicia in Hammamet instead.
Not for the single woman

I have just come back from Tunisia. I am a single traveller and an OAP. The weather was awful but obviously this was not the fault of the hotel but unfortunately they have a very small no-smoking area and even this gets inundated when you can't be outside. In fact the ground floor was suffocating to say the least., literally I thought I would actually suffocate. I had trouble in getting served with coffee in the mornings if our little waiter was off - I had to go and look for someone to get me my coffee - same thing last time I was there. On the patio I ordered a drink from the waiter and received nothing after waiting half an hour- same thing last December when I was there. Again this is what happens when you are a lone woman. In the Port I had to walk out of one cafe this time and last December because they just wouldn't serve a woman on her own - they will never see me in Tunisia again. I'm for Turkey and the Dom Rep again - they treat you like gold there cos they need and appreciate your money!
Brilliant Hotel

Myself and my husband have just got from a week (20/2/05 - 27/2/05) at the Royal Kenz, and loved every minute of it After we booked the holiday, we found these reviews and after reading them we were dreading the holiday and wondering what we had let ourselves in for. We need not have worried, there is not one thing wrong with this hotel; it cannot be faulted. The food is excellent with loads of choice; the beds and bedrooms were very comfy and clean; the staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a choice of 3 pools, 2 outside, 1 inside. There is an onsight hairdresser and beauty therapies and massages are available. There are 3 bars. The entertainment is different every night in the starlight bar. There is a shop, and a cafe (can recommend this) in the grounds. There are daily activites if you want to join in. I think they try really hard at this hotel to vary the entertainment, but it is difficult to please everybody. You do get the chance to go on excursions and a good night out was the Zulu evening. If anything i would say this hotel is not for young people, probably not enough going on but if you want a relaxing time in lovely surroundings then this is for you Please remember that this is an African country and if you want England by the sea with sun then it is probably not for you We are now planning to go back to this hotel for a 2 week break; we NEVER revisit any of the places we have been, but we can't wait to go back here.
great apart from the bad entertainment

MY boyfriend and i stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks at the beginning of August. We had an enjoyable -but quiet- stay. Being a young couple we found that there was not much to do at night even if you were willing to walk the 3/4 hour trek into the marina. I think the hotel entertainment was more suited for olded couples, even families with young children would find it hard to entertain children for long. The nights consisted of watching a middle aged balding man singing the same songs in the same order every night. We could guess what song was to come next towards the end of the holiday. They did try to accomodate most people by having a quiz, and a karaoke but still this only made around 2 hours extra entertainment each week. The marina was nice but having spent a few hours trawling around on the first night we anticipated that it could be a bit samey if you want more than once. As an arab country alcohol is not made readily available and can be quite expensive to buy. You cannot buy it anywhere other than in hotels really. So forget having a few drinks in your room or on your balcony at night. One thing i must mention is the sad state of the horses who are used to pull people from the hotel to the marina. These poor creatures look like they have not had a meal in days, and i cannot believe anyone would pay for the pleasure of having them pulling them about. You could see te horses ribs sticking out. Please do not use the horses. The hotel was lovely. Our room was spotless and was cleaned every day. The cleaning staff were very cheerfull and alwys said "hello". The staff in the resteraunt were also very nice, but i suppose they want good tips!. The restaurant system in having to share with another couple at meal times was a bit strange. They dont tell you you are to share, instead just lead the other couple up to your table and sit them down. We found it a bit uncomfortable. You know what its like having to make conversation with someone you dont know very well. However a couple we were placed with did ask to be moved and said they were moved without much hassle. All in all we did have a good restful holiday. The pools were lovely and very clean and their was daytime entertainment such as water polo and aerobics, but again after a few days this repeated itself also. I don't think we would go back, but only because of the lack of entertainment. If there was more to do at nights i think they would attract a younger clientell.
All inclusive can expect - to be served last get small measures to be unable to get more than half a wine glass of a soft drink or water at any time. drinks to run out but only for all inclusive guests, there are plenty avaialable for half/full board who are passing money... more
