A first class hotel really clean and...
10 / 10
Mar 2006, Mrs J Matthews

A first class hotel really clean and comfortable and good choice of food and drinks at all mealtimes if you where going out for the day they would also supply you with a packed lunch if you were on the all inclusive package.
Always some sort of entertainment laid on each evening and the staff were very polite and helpful.
The only downside was on the top floor it was very noisy in the bedrooms rumbling sound all day and night and the pool is very small so would be a set back in the summer months.
Ideal location right next to lots of shops and only a short walk to the railway station if you wish to venture further afield by your own means.
February is not really a good month to visit as weather was quite cold
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel Amaika is beautiful and...
7 / 10
Oct 2005, Miss K Ritchie

The hotel Amaika is beautiful and definitely deserves it's 4* rating based on the design. The Titanic based theme works well. This included the staff dressed as you would expect them to have dressed on the ship i.e. waiters in tuxedo’s and maids in old style maid outfits. These seem to make the hotel a little classier. I would also recommend that you book out the sauna/Jacuzzi room. It is one of the most relaxing experiences I have had on a holiday.
I was some what disappointed with the Pool area although it was clean and tidy there was not enough room for the people staying there. It does not get the sun there all day either which meant the pool was freezing (certainly living up to the Titanic theme there). My advice would be to go to the beach which is literally a stone throw away and is also very clean.
The food was also a disappointment. having stayed in a 3* AI a few years ago I expected the food to be a little better but that was not the case. If you are not a fish lover (like me) your choice is immediately cut down but there is plenty of salads so I was kept happy.
It also does not seem to cater for children as there was no separate food selection for them and many of the kids I saw lived on chips for a week! The alcohol however is superb. The house wine you get with your dinner is lovely and the beer and spirits were of no disappointment you can however only order 2 drinks at a time. This was bad as we were in a party of 4 and it meant 2 had 2 go up at a time which became a pain however there were usually no queues and if there was they went in quickly. As for Callela itself it lacks character.
It is basically full of tourists and so if you were looking for a bit of culture this is not the place. There are plenty of shops which sell everything you could ever want including chemists and shoe shops. On the whole the hotel is lovely, good atmosphere, good entertainment and gorgeous rooms. A nice one for families and couples.

I found the Hotel to be clean and...
8 / 10
Nov 2004, Mr D Green

I found the Hotel to be clean and well appointed. My room had a small fridge, TV, air conditioning (which only appeared to work in the 'heat' setting at the time but this was most welcome), an easy chair which could convert to a bed, and a large wardrobe with small shelves but plenty of hanging space. Bedside tables had small drawers. There was no other storage space for clothes. The bathroom had bath and separate shower (quite powerful and didn’t go cold during use!), bidet, WC and sink. Lots of ‘freebies’ if you’ve forgotten your toiletries. The room was cleaned daily to a high standard. I did not feel that the balcony was safe for small children as there was a noticeable gap through which a Childs leg could easily slip. Although the railing was in itself secure, parents should be vigilant to prevent potential accidents here. Otherwise, the hotel appeared to have a good awareness of safety, with sprinkler systems in place, and emergency exits clearly identified. The floor plan in the room was very clear to understand regarding these.
As usual with Spanish building practices, thin walls and floors mean the presence of noise or not depends very much on the considerate nature (or not) of your neighbours. It was very easy to hear conversations and TV’s, fortunately the corridors are carpeted so this helps to reduce some of the noise of the late night revellers when they return.
The hotel bar provides music until midnight unfortunately this tend to echo around the hotel grounds and closing the sliding window in the room doesn’t completely cut it out. The bar itself is a smokers paradise (bring your own oxygen).
Staying half board for 10 days gave us a chance to try out most of the meals on offer. There was plenty of choice both for breakfast and evening meals and were found to be hot enough and plentiful , although dishes did tend to repeat with just a little variation every few days. The house red wine at 5.40€ per bottle was quite acceptable, the white somewhat less so. Due to the hotel being a frequent stopover point for coach parties it can sometimes get very busy at evening mealtimes - get in early!
Overall, I liked this hotel very much and intend to stop there again in March
