Arrived at the Orion on 27th. Sept. Brilliant room with fantastic seaviews. The room definately needed a lot of refurbishment. Every time we went into the shower room flakes of white plaster from the ceiling were all over the floor. The ceiling was yellow as there was... more

Brief outline: We went on holiday for a week as a group of 4 adults, we had two separate rooms and were bed & breakfast based. The hotel is right on the beach and the sea is just so warm and shallow with no current that it is ideal for families and even if you are not keen... more

An excellent location, facing the beach with friendly staff and a small but clean pool. The problem; a big one; is the noise from nearby bars. The resort is aimed more at those who would enjoy karaoke more than Ephesus. Two of the noisiest bars in the resort are within 50... more

This was our first holiday to Turkey - our appetite being whet by a daytrip to Bodrum when we were staying in Kos. Altinkum is a fantastic resort. Set along a wide bay, its beaches are spacious, umbrellas and sunbeds cheap (£1 per item per day), and the promenade looks... more

best holiday ever any1 hates it their sad!
Im 16 and i've been going to this hotel for years. i love it!. This year tho i took my friends who also loved the hotel. The food is good and the staff are fantastic, they make you so welcome. Anyone who complained about Geoff leaving i can say the entertainment is poorer now but nothing has changed. I was tken ill on holiday and the turkish staff couldn't do enough for me, they were so helpful. This hotel is in the best location ever with the most breathtaking views although not all rooms have a sea view which was disappointing. will recommend this hotel to all ages although small children would find this hotel boring due to lack of childrens facilities.
Best Address in Town
Hi...it's me again, the 14 year old girl, so once again my views may be different from yours. This year i have been to Turkey 3 times and stayed at the Orion Hotel everytime ~ it's fantastic. I went back with my mum recently and we had a lovely room over-looking the pool, however the weather was ALOT cooler and at night you had to dress up like you would in England. Nothing was open as it was winter and even the hasslers didn't mither you. At nights it could get quite boring as there really wasn't much to do apart from go to the Internet cafe and if you were lucky the odd shop would still be open. The days were slightly better as it warmed up abit but was still wayyy to cold to swim and the hotel had no entertainment...Boss's Rules!?. I think the boat trips were still available but we didn't bother. I would like to thank all the waiters for making me enjoy myself. I would have preferred to visit the Orion in the Summer Season as there would be plenty to do, but still, I have had my best holidays in Altinkum. I hope this Review has helped you, if you're going to Turkey, Enjoy Your Holiday, if you've been, Hope you enjoyed it!
lovely holiday
11/9-18/9/2005 frm manchester me and my husband spent 1 week at the orion hotel altinkum.we had a lovely time .our room was 511 excellent views .maid was very nice .rooms kept clean daily.all staff nice. some moaned about the music from linikers bar and british bar near by.we thought they were great. this is our 3rd time in altinkum.will go back again. any thing is better than getting off the plane to cold weather .
well worth a try i will return
Well what can i say, not much to down grade this hotel. Me, my partner and our daughter age 7 visited this hotel for 2 weeks from august 22nd to 6th sept 2004. At first i was a bit worried about some of the reviews from earlier on in the year but believe me i worried about nothing. the staff were fantastic and very helpful and the food, well what can i say, plenty of variety and very well presented and fresh too judging by the weight i put on while i was there. A little noisy from the bars across the road but we got used to this after a couple of nights ear plugs would help but dont let this put you off. A stones throw from the beach which is beautiful and clean but busy while we were there. Maybe the staff could look alittle more into the entertainment side of things but there are a few nice bars across the road e.g british bar and linekars bar just 2 to mention. Just to finish the rooms are kept very clean and bed linen and towels wer changed twice aweek and rooms cleaned everyday but i would advise the air conditioning for £3.00 a day.
Wise Choice To Stay Here
If you are thinking of staying at the Orion Hotel then you are looking in the right direction. The hotel is, as the books say, located right on the beach. The hotel is clean, the food is plentiful with a great variety and the staff are more than you would expect. I must name a few that went beyond their duty, Tunjay, Chocolate, Cenal, (Pron. Jenell) were super. Although located on the beach the Orion hotel has its own pool with a small area for children sectioned off. If you miss breakfast don't worry. Opposite the hotel entrance is a great restaurant called 'Asiaminor' run by Ali Salis and his family, Engin, Idin and Murat. (His young son Erin sells the beach icecreams). Ali's boys will always make you welcome and they too offer a great Turkish Welcome. Tell them you know Kevin and ask for an EFES Dark' (beer) It was my favourite. The hotel is located towards the quieter end of Didim, You will be pleased to hear. Go and explore. Turn left at the main street and keep walking and keep walking. Do not stop. It will lead you to a thriving hive of activity with shops and bargins galore. Or walk along the beach front and you will find local bars close to the hotel. The surrounding area can be a bit noisy but its worth it. Choice, great for Adults only or Families. Don't forget Asia Minor Restaurant. It is next door to a wee travel agents run by Hakan Hatip, another nice guy. If you want to buy a property, and they are very cheap, go see Hakan property prices from 13,500 - 200,000. Have a great trip. Kevin, Stef and Emma

Compared to last year, this hotel is poor. With staff stealing customers change here and there, poor food and terrible managment. Without Geoff Hibbert the hotel is worth little.
Mediocre
Bearing in mind I am writing as a Sixteen year old girl my views will be very different from older peoples. When we arrived they had forgot my bed in our teeny room, but they were real good about it, and the cleaners brought it in straight away. Our cleaner for room 306 was absolutely brilliant and lovely! The hotel staff were all great and compared to the other Turkish men I was proper pleased to find they werent over-friendly! I didn't like the food at all, but that's to be expected of a fussy sixteen year old, but I was happy with eating salad for 2weeks, and it was always fresh...if we didn't stay in to eat I recommend the Star Park by the beach behind the Spice Apartments, the Summer Garden is also lovely and the people are great. We never stayed in the hotel because, bless them, the entertainment isn't all that good. We went to Linekers every night, opposite the hotel and the waiters there are such good fun. And i'd like to thank Val at Charlie's Bar for putting on Big Brother for us! Overall the resort is brilliant and i'd love to go back, but maybe not to the Orion again.
A small, very friendly and right on the beach, Hotel
We and our 2 children (7, 10) have just spent a lovely 2 weeks at the Orion Hotel, we found it clean, the staff very friendly, loved the food, lovely poistion for the beach, our room was a family room which was a very large room with 4 beds. I would recommend the air conditioning. One problem we and other guests found was the noise from the bars at the back of the hotel, rooms on the front didn't seem so bad, but infact after a few days we found getting to sleep no trouble because we were all so tried from the days heat, but if you are a light sleeper it could be a problem. The Hotel staff are trying very hard to put on an entertainment programme, they could do with doing a bit more for the kids guess they will do by high season. Overall the Hotel was very good, the resort and beach was a bit to busy for us although we found a nice quiet private beach 10mins walk away. People visiting Turkey for the first time should remember they are in Turkey and not Britain or Spain and the culture and country is very different.
great time
this was my first time in turkey, had a great time. hotel and staff were amazing! especially liked the british bar opposite. am hoping to return again in september.
Orion BEST By Far!!
This is the best hotel we have ever, ever stayed in..I'm speaking on behalf of a family of 8....(Ages-50,48,45,30,21,19,17&9) We visited Orion Hotel in May this year and was totally suprised by how wonderful it was. Having read the reports on 'HolidaysUncovered' we were disappointed as to what we had booked. We even thought about re-booking it for some other hotel...after a long think, we decided that if there was no such thing as the interner, then we'd only have the brochure to go by anyway so decided that even if it was going to be a rubbish 14 days, then we'd know not to return!! As it happens, we absolutely adored the place. The staff were so friendly and helpful right from the start. The meals were great...international cuisine, so was a lot better than eating out...as us English like to stick to the 'norm'. Not piping hot but was ok. The breakfast wasn't really anything special...a Turkish one but if you fancied an english breaky, it was £2. The waiters were 24hrs...so if you got back (like us) at around 2.30am and fancied a night cap or alcho drink..they'd be there to make you one. The receptionists were also 24hr and were always there to talk to. Lutfi and Aysa (receptionists) were brill and enjoyed teaching us the Turkish language...and with the likes of the waiters - Ozzy, Tunjay, Ali, JJ and some others, they liked a good pool competition whilst finishing your late night/early morning drinks! Entertainment was poor but it was just the start of the season and there were plenty of places to go for an amazing night out...especially 'Swan Bar' on Dolphin Square!(15 min walk) Medusa night club was brilliant..the best we've been too and it is brill for all ages...right from babies to oaps...!! Istanbul Restaurant is a great meal out if you fancy it...meals are delicious and staff are lovely.....Ask for Kerem (Manager) Tell him Becky recommended you!!! The beach is just across the path and is lovely. The sea is great and you can walk out for miles before you feel it is going beyond your depth..... Jeep Safari is well worth doing but make sure you are guarded with water pistols-IF you're up for a laugh and a bit of water fighting!!! What more's left to say..Orion is the perfect hotel in the perfect resort with the most perfect, friendly people!!
