I have to say this one of the most luxurious hotels I have stayed in, the bedroom was huge. The hotel was immaculate, the gardens also , they were tended and watered every day The beach was superb, white sand and clear blue water, could have been in the Caribbean. On... more

Nice retreat on the Aegean
from johnshen65
My wife and 1 year old son spend 4 nights at the Sheraton. We had a wonderful time. My son played at the beach/ocean. He was a welcome guest at the hotel (and most of Turkey). The beach was very clean (we walked and the beach was much worse outside the Sheraton's) as were the room. The pool on the otherhand was freezing cold (guess they dont heat it). We had an ocean facing room with a king bed. The room was clean and comfortable. The A/C worked although it could have been colder. The hotel is quite large with many amenities. Didnt use the gym but did use the spa. Mostly tourists although there was a business conference starting on my last evening. Most tourist seemed to be either Turkish, English or Italian with a few Japanese. I dont think I bumped into any Americans. We had the half-board so went out in the day into Cesme and Dalyan, etc to see the sights and have lunch. We had a rental car which gave us the ability to go out. The buffet breakfast and dinner actually were better than I thought as there was always something new for us and my son. The weather was breezy but warm. Evenings were very cool. Overall, enjoyed our stay here as we used this as a wind down from 2 weeks of traveling in Turkey.
What a nice holiday!
from JMHLondonEngland
My husband and I have just enjoyed 2 weeks at the Sheraton Hotel, Cesme. Sure the drinks were exhorbitant, but stick to bottled water and you will be fine. Great food especially as I am vegetarian and could actually tuck in to most things there, a holiday first. Room and air-conditioning were fine, pool and beach excellent. There were actually more than enough deck chairs to go around. Service good. The hotel is located in a small town with shops and restaurants. My only complaint was the noise from the beach parties until midnight during high season. Great location as we were a day trip away from Ephesis, Istanbul (a long day, but well wothwhile), Greek island of Chios, Donkey Island, and local markets. Not many Brits. Most tourists are up-market Turks, so no drunken yobs, a great relief. We booked thru Thomas Cook Select and would thoroughly recommed a visit.
the good, the bad & the ugly!
from nattydread
the good.... this hotel is on a FANTASTIC beach, and being on the peninsular there is a constant cooling breeze (even in mid august it was hot, but very pleasant)...the pool area is fantastic, and even in peak holiday time there were plenty of sunbeds available at any time of the day. the family rooms (not available with a sea view unfortunately) are PERFECT if you're travelling with little ones: a two bedroomed room. a double bed, a room with twin beds with a sliding door and bathroom inbetween. the hotel is big, impressive and very clean...especially the public loos which are cleaned every 20-30 minutes (a bonus as you may be visiting them frequently....see later!)...friendly staff... the bad...... the main restaurant serving breakfast and dinner is poor. there is lots of choice, but many dishes seem to reappear. starters are easier to satisfy with plenty of salads etc, but we really struggled with the main courses for dinner. breakfast isn't much better....sorry Sheraton but you need to pull your finger out on the catering side. the ugly........ the PRICES ARE painfully high....£3.50 for a can of soft drink, over £4 for an icecream and I paid £12 for a tia maria and coke. It left a very sour taste in everyones mouths as we all felt we were being completely ripped off.....STOMACH UPSETS!!!...everyone seemed to suffer to some degree. I own a packet of Diacalm that seems to have travelled the world with me and has remained unused and unopened for years...from Europe to the Carribean to the Indian Ocean...they have remained unused...this time I decided to leave them at home. Boy, did I make a mistake! You may be lucky but pack something for your poor bottom just in case. Overall: the 'PRO's far outweighed the 'CON's for us....despite being ripped off and losing a few pounds into the turkish plumbing, we had a lovely holiday.....the location and the pools saved the day!
Don't know what everyone's moaning about....
from Rosebud81
First off: I'm Turkish. Okay now SOME people may have had some problems with facilities in the hotel but..... I'm sorry, this hotel was fantastic! Very nice location, close to shops and bars, etc... obviously the beach is right there and what a beach it is! When it's not windy (which it was in June but it seemed to switch immediately after it hit July!) the ocean looks amazing and clear. I thought the service was exceptional. Every member of staff was polite and friendly from the janitors to the receptionists. All of them were very happy to help. The cleaners do come in around 11am to most rooms but they won't make you leave your room so I don't know what that person went through. Well, we never treated anybody rudely so a little kindness DOES go a long way! The room was lovely. We actually got moved to a better room 2 days into the holiday. The view was breathtaking! The A/C worked fine in both my rooms. In case people don't know, the A/C automatically turns off when you open the balcony door! Oh and sometimes you have to turn the knob on the A/C a little lower and the A/C starts up again! The swimming pool WAS cold but it was easy to get used to! The breakfast and dinner was really plentiful. They had EVERYTHING! So much so that I never knew what to get! I always put too much on my plate! The waiters were very helpful. I felt quite sorry for them really. They must be on their feet all day and not once did I see them slouch or lean against a wall to rest! I had a lot of respect for all the hard workers running this hotel! It was a pain having to pay for drinking water though! They have free water in the breakfast room so make sure you fill up some bottles there! We kept emptying out our minibar for water! The entertainment staff were very friendly and the night shows were quite fun if not silly. This place is definitely a good place for families! There were so many children there! And they all looked like they were having a great time! Whilst you're there, get a photo taken by the photographers. They usually stand outside the dinner room and can be seen walking around the beach at daytime. They have some nice facilities there. I couldn't take advantage of all of them but you can have temporary tattoos done, have your fortune told, buy designer bags, go to the cinema, go bowling, buy jewellery... and more. There is also a business centre where you can use the internet for 1YTL per 15 mins. The spa there is quite expensive but oh my God, the thermal pools are amazingly lovely! I hurt my arm in the outdoor swimming pool by straining (I'm not a confident swimmer AND the pool is not very shallow for short people!) and I went into the thermal pool and my arm just felt sooo good! It costs 20YTL for general entry to the spa and in that price you can use the sauna, go into the variety of thermal pools and the private pool (freezing!). My only complaint is the live band they hired! Well, I guess if you like jazz you'll be fine, but it just annoyed me so much! Wherever I went they had the band! And they play the same music all the time! Some people fell in love with it, but I'm not a fan of jazz, I'm afraid! Although expensive, I'd definitely go back to this hotel. It was such a lovely time and I actually didn't want to leave! I still miss having everything done for me! Where's the maid to make my bed? Where are the gajillion waiters to serve me coffee, tea and greet me wherever I go? I recommend this place to anyone who isn't going expecting to be treated like royalty! It's an amazing hotel and yes, 5* so I was expecting quite a treat but I underestimated it! I think too many people expect too much and don't bother getting things they have problems with fixed! Our mini bar wasn't working as well the 2nd week and we called guest services and they not only instantly came to fix it, but they called us later to tell us everything was fine (we were at the beach when they came to fix it). Oh and I have an aunt who visited us who is such a neat freak and she couldn't find not one thing to complain about. She checked for dust! Trust me! Oh and for the ladies... there is some really nice eye candy at this hotel! Check out the photographers! That's all I'm saying!

This hotel is absolutely awful. It looks like it's 20-30 years old when it's actually only about 5 years old. Really quite a shame as the physical structure is nice, but it has not been cared for at all. The service was shoddy. Don't even think about bringing any of your own food or water into the hotel (not even bottled water with which to brush your teeth). The A/C doesn't work. Plan on keeping the sliding door open to get a breeze and pray for somewhat cool evening weather. If you park your car under the hotel, prepare for some of the nastiest mold, mildew, and "you only wonder what died here" smells you've ever experienced in your life. We ate breakfast there the first and last morning of our stay. It was OK. The last morning, we had an early flight out from Izmir, so we got there when the hotel "said" the restaurant would open. Had to add 15 minutes onto that "opening" time as they were not prepared to receive guests. The only nice thing was the beach. Great white sand and incredible blue water. We also really enjoyed the Cesme area, especially Alacati where we dined in great small restaurants each night. Just an incredible area to which we'll return, but will be staying someplace other than the Sheraton Cesme. Ugh.
Needs some competition
from ur2cute
My husband and I just returned from a stay at this hotel, which was recommended by a business associate. This appears to be the only large 'resort' like property in the area, and being Americans, we were confident with the Sheraton name. Where shall I begin?... The a/c did not work in our room The prices for everything from food/drinks to a bottle of suntan lotion in the gift shop ($21 US!!) was way overpriced in this typically very econimical country. The security guard at the front door confiscated the two bottles of water and can of Coke we had purchased at Migros (grocery store) down the street, stating "for health reasons" we must purchase all food and beverages from the hotel. Yeah, whose health?! The pool was ice cold. The hallways were dimly if ever lighted at night. The small pond area in front was full of green slimy water as was the second pool to the front of the building, which was closed, but definately not out of view of guests--gross! All in all, this hotel is overpriced and needs some competion from another large resort which I expect will happen eventually. We were told by a Turk who has worked there and at Hilton in Izmir (we also spent some time there) that the difference in level of service was local ownership and the focus on moeny rather than service. I believe him.
hospitality a big no..no...!!!

My husband ( Who is turkish) and I arrived in cesme in March 2005, on a very cold rainy and windy night at 2am in the morning. No hotels were open except Sheraton cesme. We asked if there were any rooms and told that only a side room at the back of the hotel was avail (No sea views) the hotel was full!!!??? We paid £70.00 each and booked in to the room at 2.30am we were very tied as we had travelled from manchester, England from 1pm the day before and were told that breakfast was not included with this price. At 12 oclock the following afternoon a ganitor/cleaning person let himself into our room while were still sleeping and excused himself and told us that we had to vacate the room by 12 oclock. We were still very tied but had to quickly pack our things and leave. We paid £70 each off season for only a nights sleep in a hotel that was empty not full as the receptionist had lead us to belive. I personally feel the service of this hotel is appaling.....and I would never stop there again and i would not reccomend it to anyone.........
Not what it said in the book
from Tony003
When I booked my holiday I was informed that this Hotel did have many facilities on offer. On arrival I was extremely disappointed to be asked to pay an additional £10.00 per night for a family room, I of course refused to pay any more for my room. The food in the hotel was not of a 5 start standard and the service was not what I expected in the dining room, I often had to get my own knifes & forks and wait for my drinks to be delivered to me. As with any 5 star hotel I did expect to pay a little more for things such as Beer, wine, and soft drinks. But I refused to pay the absolutely extortionate price they where commanding. £3.00 for a small beer (33cl) and £2.00 for a can of Sprite. The mini bar prices where even more expensive. As I have already mentioned this hotel was advertised with many facilities to offer. There was no kids club running for my 10 year old daughter, No entertainment at night when we where advised that there where shows every night during the season. After informing both the hotel and the travel representative we where informed that the hotel was "winding down now and the season is over". I did explain that the season does not finish until the end of October but to no avail. The facilities will have additional charges you have to pay for the use of them. Of course I except and would have paid for the use of the Jet Ski's which they would not get out because it was "the end of the season", but to have to pay £6.00 to sit in a sauna and Jacuzzi, come on!. Every additional activity was at an additional charge and was for too expensive. I made also made a number of requests to the hotel and the rep regarding the water fall in the pool area and the fountain inside the hotel my request was simple could we have them turned ON please. But guess what. "It was the end of the season and they did not have them on". During my two - week stay we had to endure numerous conferences from various companies. These companies often took over the hotel and as such received in my view preferential treatment. For example far superior service in the dining room. It was not only I but a number of guests did feel the same way. It was not all-bad, the hotel is very clean and the Lobby lounge is very nice to relax in. The beech is spectacular and the water crystal clear. The gardens are well maintained and the staff are friendly even when saying "sorry end of the season". The Sheraton Hotel is a nice hotel, Grand in presentation. But they have missed a trick with the prices. If the become more competitive more visitors would stay in the hotel. If you book as I did at the end of September you will find that there is not much happening in the surrounding area. We did get on the Dolmus on many occasions for a trip into Cesme. Cesme is a nice little place. The shop owners will approach you and every thing is "Special Price" or "One of a kind". Be prepared to say NO!. I will not be returning this hotel or the area of Cesme. Maybe we visited at the wrong time of year?, but hay these are my views.
Turkish Delight (yes, that IS really lame ;-)

My wife, who is Turkish, and I got married at the Sheraton Cesme 8/30/03. We had guests from all over North America and Europe for the wedding, and the hotel location, service and food were outstanding. The beach is absolutely beautiful, with warm blue Aegean waters and a perfect breeze most of the time. Rooms were fantastic - clean, spacious, and very nicely decorated. The location was fantastic for access to nightlife and restaurants outside the hotel. With regard to Cesme and environs, lots of interesting places to visit. Previous reviewer mentioned the Alicati bazaar which is worthwhile and very interesting - but much slower and more relaxed than Istanbul or Izmir...which is probably why I enjoyed sipping tea in the shaded cafes and watching the world walk by. Cesme nightlife is very enticing, but the locations can be out of the way. There's a great outdoor nightclub right on the sea at the bottom of a cliff at the Hotel Ontur. I believe it's called La Bouquet, but if you go to the hotel and head out back you can't miss it. There was another restaurant/club, also open air, called Paparazzi which is secluded and right on the water. These places challenge any preconceived notions you might have prior to getting to Turkey. Finally, there's a village (town??) called Ildir just a little north of Cesme along the coast. It has 2000+ year old amphitheatre ruins, chrch ruins, and a great hiking trail up a hillside. The views over the Aegean are astounding especially at sunset. You can sea the Greek islands (although most Turks will complain vehemently about them being Greek is you ask) in the dusky late afternoon light. We climbed up and down, then went to a waterside fish (balik) restaurant where we selected our fresh fish to be grilled whole, then had mezes (appetizers) and raki while the fish was prepared. All for an astoundingly low price. Absolutely wonderful. If you haven't been to Turkey, you have to visit. If you do, Cesme is a great place to go, but don't miss a chance to visit Istanbul or go on a Mavi yolculuk (blue cruise) in a small coastal yacht called a gulet - both are must-see elements of a fantastic vacation. I hope you visit Turkey soon - you'll be as big an advocate as I am (My wife keeps suggesting I'm the unofficial Turkish Tourism minister ;-)
Amazing beach resort
from enbike
Beautiful beach, very friendly staff, great food, awesome clear blue water. Locals are friendly and sincere. The Jetty bar is great for a night cap. Venture out of the resort to experience the local culture. This resort is in a section of this area called "Ilica." You can take a minibus to downtown Cesme and walk through the merchants on a cobbled street. I've been to most southwestern towns in Turkey, and you'll find the best bargains here in Cesme. Also try the bazaar ("pazar") in Alacati on a Saturdays.

I used SPG points to book the hotel and didn’t read the reviews until it was booked. I was a bit worried, but once I got there, I can’t figure out why others didn’t like this hotel. Realize a few things if you’re coming here: - It’s a Sheraton and all the extras... more
