A brilliant hotel with excellent food and excellent Staff. Perhaps not quite 5 star, rooms are rather oblong than square in that it is not easy to pass a partner at the dressing table. Eda, guest liason officer, great; Arif, Oral, Ibrahim and all waiters and waitresses friendly and efficient; reception Staff also good. Marmaris itself? Well not quite up-market for us. OK if you sail a boat and can enjoy the costal scenery.

This hotel is not worth the five star rating as it is not up to the standard of the many hotels that we have visited.the food to some may well be good but for us it was very poor.the pool was very good and the pool bar food was good.the staff are quite rude, some guests are quite chavvy(walking about the hotel reception without shirts).the decor is rather dated and the rooms could do with a freshen up.all in all a fair holiday.i cannot understand all the good reviews, all i can think of is that people going on holiday with rose tinted glasses.will not be returning to this 3 star hotel as that is all it is.

The transfers to the hotel in Marmaris is quite lenghty, especially when travelling at night time like we did, but its worth the wait!! My boyfriend and I arrived at the Grand Azur at about 4am in the morning and was greeted by a friendly guy. However he gave us room 103 which we were very dissapointed with becaause it overlooked the neighbouring hotel "Grand Ideal", and as we had paid for a room with a view we were gutted. However, the room was very nice inside with lovely clean comfy beds and nice furniture and shower room. The mini bar was excellent & we used this daily, paying the bill at front desk every couple of days. The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous and well deserves the 5* that the operator gives as it is extremely clean and quite posh with shops, bars, gym, turkish baths & spa etc. Breakfast is nice with good choice, but dinner is really lovely with excellent choice of meats, pastsa, fruits and deserts etc. It was romantic sat outside in the evenings with candalight and music playing and we throughly enjoyed this. The pool areas are clean and besutiful both day and night, but be quick to get a sunbed (about 7am) otherwide its full be 10am!! The hotel is right on a private beach with good watersports and lovely views, and free sunbeds for the Azur guests which is excellent. this saves loads of money as it can become quite pricey everyday, we had a some great days out at the beach. Marmaris boast loads of shops which are very cheap when you barter with the staff, especially for named clothing, shoes, belts and handbags etc. Markets come every now and then and these are cheap however the brits do get a little hastle from the traders and they were quite pushy towrads us (try just to say no thanks and walk away).. Marmaris is excellent for bars and clubs and you can have a great night out. Bar street is good but is quite pricey and the drink prices are doubled up that end. Cocktail prices are good in most bars, they offer happy hour 2.4.1 which is good. The harbour is gorgeous too, worth a look, really romantic walk too!! On out last day we went on the "Lazy Check out" but the bus picks you up at 8am and the day is really long when you have a night flight back to the UK. On this day out we went on a boat trip to the mud baths (which really stinks haha) and then another boat trip to the turtle beach (but we saw no turtles here lol) .. then you get a hotel with dinner and evening meal for 40GBP PER PERSON, and you can stay in your room for a shower etc until the coach takes you to the airport. We were extremely tired but it was something different to do. All in all, Turkey is absolutely gorgeous, we will be returing next year and especially to the Grand Azur (hopefully might get a pool/sea view)... 9/10 well worth it!! x The weather is Tirkey is extremely hot, especially in July, it was 46 degrees when we were there and been brits, we thought this was unbearable ... but we did love it more than the rain that we have had this year in England !!

We went here at start of May for our Honeymoon, the hotel is lobby and hotel itself is lovely, on arrival we had chocolate deserts, wine and fruit in our room as they knew it was our honeymoon, the room itself was lovely if maybe a big small as the furniture in the room is quite big, the balcony did leave alot to be desired it did really fit with the rest of the hotel as it was very small and not that nice.
The room was cleaned very day, i think the sheets get done once a week, but we had clean towels everyday, and even i you had your do not disturb out they still came round in the afternoon which was handy as the maid usually come early.
We stayed half board, the breakfast we lovely there was lots of choice, the first week the dinner buffet was fine but by the end of the second week we were sick of it to be honest, as its was just the same stuff most nights.
The pool is brilliant and the adult slide is definitely worth a go!
The hotel entertainment was practically none existed while we were there i think it was because it was only the start of the season, but i thought there could have been more as the hotel had quite high occupancy rates when we were there.
Overall is was a good holiday and the hotel was lovely, definitely 5 star for Turkey but not by Uk rates

We arrived at the Grand Azur in marmaris quite late at night. The length of time sitting waiting in a bus for the transfer to marmaris seemed excessive. When we eventually arrived at the hotel, check in was swift and in no time we were in our room.We had paid an extra 168 pounds for a sea view room. I specifically asked for a high floor as I did not want a sea view blocked by trees. In the morning I went out on the balcony to look at the sea view. It was blocked by trees. I did not unpack but waited to discuss this with the holiday rep. She was great (Imogen) and we looked at another room.It had a sea view so we moved to it.The rooms were comfortable, definitely not 5star by our standards. The initial impression of the hotel was a large airy lobby with lots of marble. The decor along the corridors was shabby with stained carpet and definitely needed re decorated. The staff were generally helpful and friendly. We were very pleased with free wifi access in the main lobby area. We were on half board. The food was above my expectations. The breakfast spread was extensive and I think even the fussiest eater could find something. We loved the fresh honeycomb which was there every morning. Chefs would cook omelettes and eggs to order. We enjoyed the omelettes until one morning I noticed one of the hotel cats had jumped up and was helping itself to beaten egg. I observed this early in the morning from my balcony before breakfast had started. I watched the cat sniff round each bowl of ingredients and the egg was the one I saw it help itself to. Why it hahnt been covered until the chef was in attendance, I dont know, but we didnt have any more omlettes! At lunch time there was a beach cafe/bar which was reasonably priced. The choice at dinner was excellent, with freshly cooked meat and fish every night. We found alcohol very expensive.I think this was generally the case in turkey.Had I known how expensive the wine was, I would have brought a box with me. There didnt seem to be a bottle of wine under 28-30 pounds in the hotel.Thats too pricey for me!Staff were constantly cleaning and bed linen and towels were clean every day.The hotel had its own section of the beach and you could get a beach towel every day from the pool boy who also carried mattresses to your sunbed for you. There was plenty of sunbeds available. You could sit at the pool ,on the beach or around the gardens. The gardens were really lovely and from what I could see, they were by far the nicest in the area. The beach was stony and plastic shoes are needed to comfortably walk into the sea.Taxi boats to the local resorts and day trip boats left from the jetty beside the hotel, which was very convenient. When we checked out I paid our restaurant drinks bill and proceeded to take our luggage to the left luggage room. I was called back to reception and told Id taken a pepsi light out of the mini bar. I told the receptionist that on arrival I had cleared the mini bar out except for the chocolate and then put it all back when i was leaving. The receptionist insisted that i had taken it and would have to pay for it. I said that I would pay for it even though we didnt drink it. I told them that this was very bad customer policy.Who is going to stay in a 5star hotel and try and steal a can of pepsi?.I did not like their attitude but thought it wasnt worth the trouble so paid an inflated price 2.50 pounds for a can of drink we didnt take. This left us with a negative attitude on departure. Another couple had a similar experience but reported it to reception. It seems the room maids get thirsty whilst cleaning!.Overall we had a reasonable holiday but I think it is unlikely that we would return to turkey.

Having been to azur on at least 5 ocassions, have always regarded this as a special place that not only was very beautiful but had friendly and helpful staff. This incouraged me to stay in the hotel and spend even more money on top of the quite expensive room charges. This has now changed, I had a simple problem with my room allocation and hoped the management would deal with me as a friend as well as a customer, this did not happen and I was made to feel as if they only wanted me for my money. I will not be returning to the azur in the future, I can find cheeper accomodation with a road view that would welcome my bussiness, and treat me as a friend like most turkish bussiness people do. Staff was as helpful as always, and will miss them.

Hi stayed at the Iberostar Trpoical hotel in Aug 2007 all inclusive for a week, it was one of the best hotels I have stayed at. When we arrived at reception and checked in the porter took out bags and they were there within 5 minutes at our room. The hotel is spotless and the rooms are spacious. We had a jacuzzi room and my tip is use it early on in the week when you havent got sunburn. The entertainment team did there best but with so many foreign people everything took longer as it was getting translated in about 4 different languages. My 11 year old son only went once to the kids club as the kids going were alot younger and alot were foreign plus the kids reps just sat in the corner of the room talking and left the kids to run about the room. The swimming pools and sunbeds got cleaned every day so there was no risk of becoming ill. The food in the restaurant for adults was excellent but the kids choice consisted of chips and nuggets every night. The snack bars were handy if you just fancied something light before your main meal. Ice cream was served all day and that was a plus for me and my son who love it. The only problem we had was when we went to the beach. My partner went paracending and me and my son were allowed to go on the boat free of charge. Once my partner came down from paracending the guy on the boat says I could go up free of charge. I did this and as it had been my second time it wasnt as nerve wrecking. When we got back to the beach to collect our shoes the guy turned round and said that will be £25 we said you told us it was free of charge and we argued with him until my partner paid for me. BEWARE DO NOT GO ON ANY OF THE WATERSPORTS THEY ARE COWBOYS.

Just arrived back from the Grand Azur in Marmaris. The BEST hotel in Marmaris without doubt. We have stayed in over ten different hotels in Marmaris and Icmeler and this hotel is FANTASTIC. I will admit that there were only six Brits staying at this hotel for this week, and there was a seminar being held in the hotel for sixty Turkish men, but this did not detract from how great this hotel is. The weather was not good and very few shops were open { except in the bazaar }, but as the hotel was so luxurious, staying in was not a problem. Food BRILLIANT, staff FANTASTIC, rooms TERRIFIC, and if you get a room overlooking the pool and the sea WOW and WOW again. Also try the indoor pool. There is nothing to complain about. Just go and enjoy.

Nice clean hotel with an excellent position in the town - not too noisy and not too far away from the centre of town.
Rooms were clean and well appointed. Beds were comfortable, and the suites were huge (though we had a double which was more than adequate for 2 adults and 2 small children). Lovely sea views from the top floors - lower down you only get the trees in the hotel gardens!
Staff were helpful & courteous.
Grounds were very well kept and quite stunning - like an oasis in the middle of a concrete jungle - it’s really quite a 'looker' !
Beach rather stony but probably the best available in Marmaris! Beach bar serves great food and only slightly dearer than nearby taverns - we ate there alot - very pleasant atmosphere.
Food and drinks were good by Turkey standards.
Pools not heated but you soon got used to them - the indoor one could sometimes be quite warm. Water features were a nice feature but not running constantly.
Would I recommend it? Yes, it’s a smart place, but Marmaris was Blackpool abroad (sorry no offense Blackpool) so won't be returning.

Would definitely stay in this hotel again.
Between booking and arriving, the hotel changed from Iberostar from Maritim so not sure what the difference was.
After a cramped flight with Thomas Cook (would avoid at all costs unless you are under 5 feet tall) and a transfer of 1.5 hrs with a rep who knew less than us (even though it was our first time in Turkey!) we arrived at this hotel.
Please ignore reps advice that you cannot flush toilet tissue down the toilet - you do not have to use the bin in the bathroom!
We requested 2 x double rooms but were allocated 2 x twin rooms on the 4th floor. They offered to push the beds together but we asked to be moved.
We were allocated rooms 230 & 231 which were excellent rooms as they were larger than the twin rooms and had a perfect sea view. The trees did not interfere with this view and you could even lie in bed and watch the sea - very relaxing. (If you look at the Thomson website for this hotel, they are the ones on the round edge over the restaurant).
As specified, there are no tea/coffee making facilities which is unusual and the room was clean and well arranged. The bathroom was not dated even though a little on the small side. Due to the size of the bedroom, the TV was too small (14") and the only channels in English were BBC Worldwide & CNN (some of the time). Plenty of other channels in various languages.
Some staff did have trouble understanding English but as we are the foreigners, they spoke English better than I spoke Turkish! Room service was very reasonable.
The restaurant was excellent - great food, varied each night, wonderful deserts (must try their strawberries). You could choose your seating as have been on other hols where you were allocated a table & possibly other holidaymakers to sit with you.
Only comment is the price of wine/champagne. Holiday was to celebrate a special birthday but the most expensive champers was 800 YTL (around £350!) and the cheapest was 600 YTL (around £242) so buy beforehand and take your own. Average price of a bottle of wine was £38 - again buy before you go.
The only toilets for the pool & beach areas were in the hotel but not that far away.
The Italian restaurant wasn't open, did not eat in the beach/pool bar or use the indoor or outdoor pools due to only being there a week, and wanted to make the most of it.
Did use the beauty rooms and had a facial which cost 75 YTL (£31).
Had a Hamam at the Ottoman Baths which was excellent and only cost £9 which included an oil massage - well worth it.
Holiday was over in a flash and both parties had an excellent time and would happily return to this hotel next time we're in Marmaris.

We booked a week here independently (flights; XL and Findmeaccom.com for hotel, transfers; Transfer Only.com) from Oct 16th -23rd. Having previously stayed at two excellent Iberostar; Creta Panorama on Crete and Panorama Kipriotis on Kos, in previous years, expectations were running high.
On the positive; the hotel areas and pools are clean. Sheets are clean and beds are comfortable. Mini bar and room service we thought were very reasonable. The view from our 4th floor room (No. 445) was the best view we'd ever had in a hotel! Staff were pleasant enough (but we did not find the receptionists overly helpful). The hotel shops were reasonable in their prices (even cheaper than the bizarre in Marmaris in some cases - though we were at the end of the season). Food was varied and hot. There is an excellent beach bar which was reasonably priced (you may have to ask for the kids menu though as it is not always given you) and both the food and the views here were very good indeed.
On the negative; be warned - room 445 does have twin beds, and so do many of the rooms on the 4th floor - however, determined to stick to our wonderful view (don't expect to get a sea view below the forth floor as there are too many trees!) these were easily pushed together for us, by housekeeping, and was no longer an issue. The food was good, but not to the standard in either quality, or variety, that we had experienced in the 4* Iberostar Creta Panorama in Crete (and being 5* quite frankly we were expecting much better!). The hotel room was clean, but was a little dated, particularly the bathroom where the floor tiles were stained and finish of tiling poor. Feral cats were another issue in the outdoor dining area - not helped by a small minority of guests actively encouraging them by feeding them at the table - really Iberostar should do more to tackle this problem (it’s not the first hotel of theirs where we have seen this). The hotel boasts a very impressive water chute running from the outdoor to the indoor pool - however this was only running one day in our seven day visit (despite repeated requests from my son to turn it on). I must point out that this was probably a blessing, as it would not pass any UK safety standards; being lined by concrete and hard rocks from top to bottom - the potential for children to knock themselves unconscious before hitting the plunge pool at the bottom was quite frightening! As it was, the surface of the chute was painted concrete, which was wearing badly and on our visit and our son picked up a number of nasty grazes to his chest, back and arms. This coupled with the lazy river's decapitating bridges (!) should lead to a total redesign of the whole pool area - the concepts are good but safety has not been a priority. There are also no toilets near the pool or beach bar area - the nearest being back in the main hotel - not good if you have young kids!! The indoor pool is nice, but very dimly lit for the duration of our stay, though it was occasionally heated to quite a reasonable temperature on an adhoc basis (it would have been nice if they had heated the outdoor pool to the same temperature as a permanent feature!)
Other reviews have said this is the best hotel in Marmaris - I wouldn't doubt it.(though are a few newer looking ones further out on the Icmeler road, that look like they'd give it a run for its money ). If you are an Iberostar addict though, you could be a little disappointed with this one, given its 5* status.....maybe it is just a cultural difference.... but Iberostar I'm sure you could do much better.

Second visit still as good as ever rooms clesn food good with lots of choice did hear people complain that the food was not English but they were in Turkey if they wanted English food they should have gone to Blackpool and not had excellent service beautiful surroundings and good weather
