We booked as a result of last minute.com advertising 5* holidays for 3* prices.
However, when we arrived at the hotel we were put into Kronos apartments. These apartments are self catering apartments and have seen better days, to say the least. They were not clean, the decor was poor and the furniture was old. There was an awful smell in our room and we had to open all the wardrobe doors and drawers to ensure our clothes did not smell. There was an air freshener above the kitchen cupboard which expelled "fresh air" every five minutes or so! When we complained, we were told that the facilities were all the same but that there was no room in the hotel to move us.
We informed the Manager we wanted to be moved and would make an official complaint. She offered us wine and fruit and free beach beds (4 euros a day each) if we did not make a formal complaint. We refused this and made a complaint to the rep. We received fruit and wine all the same.
The following day water started to come into the bathroom through the ceiling and we were moved into the hotel with free sun beds!!
My brother and sister in law were unfortunately still stuck in Kronos. The maid did not turn up on Sunday to empty the toilet paper bin so they went to reception and threatened to empty it on the desk if this wasn’t done. Their neighbour collected the hair from her shower and threw it over the reception desk. Three maids turned up immediately and the rooms were thoroughly cleaned for the first time in a week.
If you do decide to visit the resort, make sure they do not put you in Kronos apartments. They claim to be 4* but they do not come up even to that standard.

Stayed there for a week June 2005. It started really bad as we were placed in a Kronos apartment next to the hotel and the receptionist tried to convince us that we had booked a villa twin and the apartment was a villa twin. Don’t buy this as it’s not true. When you book a hotel room at Palazzo and have a key in your hand saying "Kronos Apartments" you know something is wrong. Everything at the hotel had to be paid cash as we didn’t stay in the main hotel. So the next day we were promised a room at the hotel if we could wait one more night. And no apologies for the trouble. Like we had a choice ?! I’m not saying that the apartment is really bad. But when you expect a proper 5* room, the apartments come to short. One of the things we found out was that you have to pay extra to get ac here. The TV had just a few Greek channels and the rooms are quite dark with lousy decoration. Anyway, the third day we were moved into the hotel and as compensation we had fruit and a bottle of Palazzo Porto white wine waiting in the room. But still no apology...
The rooms in the main building are nice decorated and we had a nice little balcony with a little bit of sea view. The food was great and the staff ok. Still we didn’t find the hotel quite 5*. Actually we felt that the hotels exterior is quite ugly. The activity rooms where the billiards, ping pong table and the gym is, are in the basement where the lights always are switched off. No decoration at all and basically rooms you don’t want to spend too much time in. The swimming pool area is ok, but nothing compared to other 5* hotels we’ve been to. The sunbeds at the hotel beach cost 8 Euro for two per day.
Well, we’ll never return to Palazzo Porto again and the main reason is that we never got a proper apology and the way they tried to trick us to stay in the apartment although we had paid for a room at the hotel.

We’ve travelled a lot the last 6 years, and nowhere in Europe is there a hotel like this. We’ve lost our heart to this hotel and this little town. They have a wonderful staff who make your holiday a pleasure, they like what they do, and they do it well.
The management worked very hard to make this hotel what it is today. Every time we are there, we feel like we’re home, so that is a good sign, after all these years.
The food is really good (and this is a chef who’s telling you), it’s Greek with an international touch, so you have to be very difficult to find nothing at all you’ll enjoy.
The hotel is very clean and it looks just like 5 years ago when it opened, that means nothing is broken.
In the little town Platanias you find everything you need, and the hotel has a view on the little harbour. You have great swimming pool and a beach opposite of the hotel.
Marita, Katerina, Dr, Adonis and your whole team, you have a wonderful hotel, keep it like that. They all became a little bit of family for us. See you there soon!

I found the Palazzo Porto Patanias Hotel at that time of year very pleasant. The staff were very very friendly and helpful. The meals were spot on. Most shops closed down due to time of year but it was nice to be able to move around, I can imagine its very overcrowded during tourist season. Not much for kids to do on the site. Palazzo Porto Patanias hotel rooms seem geared towards business people, not family orientated in decor.

Excellent holiday, variety, friendly people from cleaning to waiting staff to Palazzo Porto Patanias receptionists. Even the Maitre D'Hotel was friendly and came to speak to us at the dining table. My only gripe was the bed linen smelt of cig smoke but I have reported it and it should be rectified. The hotel is only 2 years old, I found the decor very modern and very much business person orientated. We were in a 2 person bedroom with a sofa bed for the child. I think they will get everything spot on eventually but a great holiday nevertheless.

We have just returned from a week at this hotel which we found rather disappointing. The price we paid was very good for half board in a 3*, which is what we rated the hotel to be.
The staff were very good, breakfast was varied but the evening meal left much to be desired. The fact that the restaurant finished serving at 9 o'clock meant that we only ate there twice in the week.
The room we paid for was good with a side sea view, which, although it was not the most expensive in the hotel, was definitely in the best position.
The pool area was cramped and enclosed and quite a good deal of the space available was never in the sun. Sun beds, which were not very plentiful, had towels on them first thing in the morning. The beach in front of the hotel charged 8 euros for two sun beds and an umbrella, the most expensive in the resort. Considering the lack of available space around the pool, we found this charge extortionate for guests of the hotel. A beach towel was provided but was only changed twice a week!
There was plenty of choice for restaurants in Platanias itself but as a resort it was noisy and busy with traffic. This place could easily become the Malia of the west coast.
The deal we paid for was very good, but if we had been full paying guests we would have been very disappointed.
