Brilliant hotel to stay in, very close to Oxford Street. Very friendly and welcoming receptionist, thank you Wilma. Nothing was too much trouble.
I had a large room with separate toilet and bathroom, with a large bath.
The price was very reasonable with continental breakfast included. The hotel room was exactly as the photos showed.
I would recommend this hotel for location, value, and welcoming staff.
The room was warm with the heating on at night.
I will stay there again.

It is impossible to fault the location of this hotel, within a few minutes walk of Oxford Street and plenty of top quality bars and restaurants. It is also very close to bus links and only a few minutes walk from Oxford Circus tube station.
However, be aware that the hotel decor is extremely old-fashioned and shoddy and we found staff to be very unhelpful and unfriendly. Our room was dark and depressing and the shower attachment didn’t fit to the wall so it was impossible to use. The toilet was also separate to the bath/sink area so you had to walk from one to the other just to wash your hands. Tiles were chipped, the carpet was bare in places and we couldn’t adjust the room’s heating.
Also, it seems to be located above a tube line as, at regular intervals, you can hear the noise of the trains passing by underneath - this is not particularly loud or likely to keep you awake, but something to be aware of nevertheless.
If you are looking for a good location at a good price in London, the Astor Court Hotel is ideal. But have plenty of activities planned, as you will want to spend as little time in this hotel as possible!

I booked this hotel on the basis that it was the most reasonably priced venue central to the places I intended to visit. On checking in I was asked for payment but was under the impression that the room had been paid for on booking; it apparently hadn't, though this had not been clear to our very thorough admin lady. I had to contact my colleague AND get them to forward an email before payment could be taken which took 45 minutes of calls (I couldn't get a reception on my iphone unless hanging out of the door or my window). I had been given room 26 which was furnished with a variety of mismatching bits and pieces. The room was a double to sleep a single and had the often popular 'two singles pushed together' bed, however this didn't function very well given that one bed was 3 inches higher than the other. The toilet was separate from the bathroom, had a pull chain which made a racket and had no handbasin nor a blind, so when using the toilet in the evening I had to keep the light switched off (glass, however frosted, is see through when it's dark out and light inside!). The bedroom window wouldn't fully close so I got the full benefit of the cold air and work going on outside. I also ended up sleeping in my clothes and using all the towels and my coat on the bed because rather than a duvet the bed had only a few sheets and a musty looking blanket which were insufficient to keep me warm. At 4.15am the person in the room above me decided to have a walk around their room for 30 minutes. How did I know this? Because their floor boards creaked so loudly that it woke me up. At 6.15am the same happened again and I gave in and got up. I have never been so glad to leave a hotel and wish I'd gone to complain. It's certainly a lesson in booking budget on the basis of a, quite frankly fabricated, website.
