We chose the hotel because it was...
7 / 10
Aug 2006, Mrs L O Jones

We chose the hotel because it was quiet.
The hotel accommodation is superb - large rooms (enormous bed!), separate room for our daughter on a camp bed and two bathrooms for the family - very useful when getting ready for dinner. Very clean with spectacular views!
The food was very good, plenty of choice and variety - but only self service was available - not 4* service.
Pools are great but the hotel was invaded by hundreds of British clients who had not chosen the hotel, but had been placed there and the noise level increased dramatically as did the queues at dinner time and at the bar. You could wait over half an hour for a waiter to ask you if you wanted a drink of an evening.
The Staff were hard working and friendly but stressed - not enough of them to give 4* service.
The walk down the hill is dangerous (uneven paths and rocky steep sides to the side walk) and very poorly lit.
I do recommend the bar on the beach of an evening for a quiet drink - relaxing music and the sound of the waves.... (Oliver and Hardy's)

Booked this holiday with six weeks to...
8 / 10
Jan 2006, Mrs A Nelson

Booked this holiday with six weeks to go after reading several reviews on other net sites so we were fully aware of the good and bad points. we arrived at 10.30 in the evening and directed to our room by the reception staff yes we did get a bit lost but soon found our way.
It was the first holiday we had taken on our own without our now independent children and didn’t know what to expect us being 39 and 46 but still young at heart. The room was lovely and immaculately clean the bedding crisp and fresh the maid cleaned every day replenishing any of the free goodies in the beautiful bathroom. The restaurant was bright clean and a huge variety of selections of dishes (being a caterer myself believe me we are fussy) I defy anyone not to be able to choose something they liked. On arrival we were told a cold buffet had been laid on for our evening meal which was much appreciated after our long journey.
The pools are fabulous beautifully clean and refreshing. Don’t worry about finding a lounger as they are in abundance and fresh pool towels are available daily. The staff at the poolside bar are lovely and the entertainment team friendly very good and do not pressure you to take part we declined as we enjoyed relaxing.
There is a small beach at the bottom of the cliff reached by a free bus but we travelled a little further by the same free bus to Porta Mogan which is beautiful the little Venice is so picturesque and we loved the little beach there lots of restaurants to choose from. We sampled the glass bottom boat trips ( a first for my husband not a boat lover) this too was lovely and really cheap only 4 euros there and back.
Puerto Rico is a 10 min taxi away 10 euros full of all the night life you would expect good for young old and the fancy free plenty of taxis.
The entertainment at the hotel was a little quite and dated they seem to cater for the older guest and it doesn’t go on for very long this was are only grip however we just got a taxi to Puerto Rico but make sure you budget for this as we did.
We actually thought the food was that good that we paid a little extra for the last 3 days of our stay and went all inclusive. It was our wedding anniversary whilst we were there and we received a bottle of bubbly from the staff. The staff are friendly helpfully and will assist with ordering taxis etc. The views from our balcony was breathtaking a different sunset each evening.
For those who are not to good on there feet they need to book a low floor room as there can be a little confusion with the lifts ( which are panoramic) and there may be some stairs to climb.
On day of departure the hotel gave us a courtesy room at no extra charge. We recommend this hotel even if your after the night life then you just jump a taxi and then in the day enjoy the finer things in life relaxing in comfort in this lovely hotel.

Jan 2006, Mrs MD Moor

Food: excellent, abundant choice. All self service - even tea and coffee which made collecting meal rather tedious
Rooms: excellent with kitchenette - useful for making drinks
Large bathroom with bath and shower. all with balcony and sea view
Cleanliness throughout Hotel: Superb.
Pool areas: very good and sheltered
Location : the hotel is high up and built into the cliff. The beach (small and black sanded) is in line with the hotel BUT can only be reached by a steep winding road about half mile long.
There are free buses twice a day but these were crowded even in January. Hate to think what they are like in the high season !
This Hotel could do with a long flight of steps down to the beach (and up if you are super fit !) I walked to the beach only once (well I am 68) and took a taxi back for 2 euros. Apparently I was lucky, many people waited 30 mins for taxi.
Free buses also to and from Puerto Rico, very handy but also crowded. long queues for taxis back.
There are NO PORTERS at this hotel.
I was on level 4 which is actually 8 levels above reception (there are 12 levels altogether )
When I arrived it was dark and raining -nobody’s fault- But after rapid and heavily accented instructions at reception - 2 lifts, ramp, turn left, turn right etc I got lost! Not a good start. I was guided by a couple by shouted directions from their balcony and was very grateful. Later in the week I guided other arrivals so it's not just my age!
The lifts are very good and very fast.
On the subject of (winter) darkness, I took a trip into the mountains and had to start early. There were NO lights.
ON the way to reception and I had to literally Feel my way down from my lofty room in pitch darkness. Take a torch!
The Staff attitude varied from cheerful helpfulness (few) to a regrettable indifference (majority) Perhaps it's the winter off season.
Entertainment, good, something every night for various tastes. Also various activities, including for children, each day
There is a tiny shop on site for bottled water, milk, crisps etc
Not much in the immediate area, but ideal for a quiet holiday. I was lucky with the weather, hot and sunny, but could be a bit isolated in the rain. Can't comment on car hire but understand it's best to use Hertz.

The apartments at this hotel were...
9 / 10
Jul 2004, Miss C Ive

The apartments at this hotel were fantastic. We had a huge apartment with interconnecting doors between the living room and main bedroom, where we had a king size bed, a bonus for a hotel in Europe. We also had 2 bathrooms, a kitchenette and 2 balconies. There was plenty of storage space and in the bathrooms there was a bath and separate shower in each.
The pools were a good size, however it was very difficult getting 3 sunbeds and an umbrella together as the hotel is extremely popular with Germans and they had reserved all the sunbeds by 8am. The hotel advertised a policy of removing unattended towels from the sunbeds but didn’t seem to stick to it. Also, the tiles round the pool were extremely slippery and we had a few near accidents whilst we were there.
Reception staff were very helpful and spoke good English. There was even an English lady working there.
Restaurant was a good size but still had queues for tables at around 8pm most evenings. It was also too hot in the restaurant, especially when they sat us by the picture window, which would have been lovely had we not felt we were cooking as the setting sun was shining right in on us! Waiting staff took a long time taking drinks orders and bringing drinks at times but this was more a case of being understaffed during busy periods than being slow. One evening we had to wait nearly 40 mins to order a receive a bottle of wine to go with our meal, by which time we were nearly on our desserts.
Food was good quality and there was lots of choice. It was constantly being replaced by freshly cooked (or freshly heated?!) Food, about every 5 mins and the chefs were very friendly, especially towards our 5 year old, who celebrated his birthday in the hotel and received a cake.
The breakfasts were very good with absolutely loads of choice, but you need to be quick when fresh pastries and croissants are brought out. Every time there was a fresh basket put down all you saw were arms and legs flying as the Germans pounced and by the time we got to it there were only crumbs left!
The resort of Playa Taurito itself is down a steep hill. Our rep had advised us that it wasn’t one of the best beaches on the island as other guests had found small patches of oil on the beach, which seemed to have washed ashore from the boats. It did not look like there was an awful lot in the resort itself, so we hired a car for 3 days of the holiday. Went to the beach at Playa Del Ingles twice and the Aquasur water park in Maspalomas, both a 20-30 min drive from the hotel. Also Puerto Mogan is a must. The marina is really pretty and the beach is great for those with kids as the sea is really calm.
The buses to Mogan or Puerto Rico stop at the bottom of the hill from the hotel which is fine to walk down to but when it’s hot you may find it easier to get a cab back up as the hill is a killer! The buses are pretty cheap and run about every half hour till late so are good if you want to go into one of the resorts in the evening.
All in all we had a great holiday, ate lots and thought the hotel was good value for money, as it was cheaper than a 3 star self-catering.
