We have just come back from here and...
8 / 10
Sep 2005, Carolt

We have just come back from here and I would go again in a few years. The hotel is a little out of the way, from Salou centre but we got taxi’s and this was about 6 euro, they do a bus service but as it is 1.40 euro it worked out more or less the same as the taxi.
The hotel itself is clean and the rooms are cleaned and towels changed regularly, it does say bedding changed once a wk but we found this was done more than that, which was great. We had food in the buffet restaurant quite a few times and this was ok, would not have liked to have gone full board as the food can be repetitive, we tried the restaurants in Salou and found some good ones, one of which was called the Orient express. run by a Spanish family but they do nice English meals for about 7.95 euro for 3 courses this was a popular place to eat, we went here a few times too.
Entertainment is run by the hotel and this was ok lots of daytimes activities and some good acts in the evening. Bar staff friendly. Had the usual sunbed situation but always managed to get them cos they had plenty of sunbeds, it was just the finding of a space that was sometimes the problem (like people squashing beds into tiny spaces) this got on my nerves cos I like my space and hate being crammed in. The pool is also very cold. The rooftop pool is good they have 2 Jacuzzi’s.
One problem that I can think of is teenagers (I have one of my own but he didn’t get involved with others), the parents seem to leave them to their own devices at night and they are running around drinking bottles of lager and making a nuisance of themselves, late at night, we also saw children under 10 doing this too. There were a few incidents of glass in the pool and this was due to the teenagers throwing bottles/glasses in there with no thought for the consequences as it was a family pool some of the younger children cut there feet, this resulted in the pool getting closed while they got the glass out.
As we went in Sept, I would hate to see what it was like in Aug/July as there would be more teenagers here. They do have security but they didn’t start until about 11.30pm which in my opinion is far too late, they should be on as soon as it gets dark. We had a pool view which was lovely. We met some lovely people while we where there. Overall I would give the hotel 8 out of 10, they need to sort the teenager/security problem out.

Beautiful hotel clean and tidy...
5 / 10
Sep 2005, Mrs E Huggins

Beautiful hotel clean and tidy absolute luxury me my husband and 2 year daughter went with my mother partner and son aunty and uncle and 6 cousins I was staying HB in the hotel side and the stayed SC they were all promised rooms together by Airtours but got separated into different blocks.
My room was above the entertainment room and when it rained the entertainment was brought inside and it was like they were in the same room as me I wouldn’t have minded if it was good but it was a poor performance by the platters tribute band and I couldn’t get my 2 year old to sleep who had been poorly all day.
When I asked to change rooms the rep requested that I ask on the Tuesday am for a room change on Sunday when other guests departed so I did they said that would be ok. Sunday 9am they said I couldn’t move as hotel was full even though guests had departed and new ones hadn’t arrived spoke to the reception manager who told me that I wouldn’t be able to move and was very rude to me the reps were useless and didn’t help me at all.
The food was ok but watch out for the pork they don’t tend to cook it and is usually raw a few people were sick we found a lovely English pub called the dog and duck which served cheap quality food in Salou so i had to pay out more money drinks in the hotel are very expensive we ordered coke and brought a bottle of vodka into the entertainment hall with us.
Only down sides really were 1 - Taxis and buses charge what they want 2- topless bathing by the pool not acceptable in a family environment go to the beach! 3- to many inflatable in tiny children’s pool 4- no entertainment for children under 4 big down side but the daisy disco my 2 year old loved it thanks to Roderick and Anouka they were great 5- watch out for pick pockets we were targets at least 5 times they seem to target you on buses mostly 6- entertainment was poor in the evenings found myself yawning alot .
La Pineda beach is the best beach in the area by far and make sure you visit nou camp in Barcelona a must and I'm not a footie fan. All in all a ok holiday but wouldn’t visit again.

Me and my girlfriend (23/20) went to...
8 / 10
Sep 2005, Mr MC Chambers

Me and my girlfriend (23/20) went to the h10 very recently. I had to say it was one of the best hotels I have been too. Pools everywhere, indoors and even Jacuzzi on the roof top where you can sun bathe.
The entertainment was unbelievable, I found it better night life there rather than a trip to Salou itself at night. Staff where very nice and made you feel special. I even found myself, from N.Ireland haven’t got a note in my head how to sing give it a go in a karaoke. Which was funny. It just has that kind of holiday grasp on you. Only let down was a noisy English crowd in the next room smashing bottles and banging our door as N.Ireland beat England that week in football. Hotel Security was very helpful in that situation.
Good Selection of food although I think the food quality could be improved. Cooked in a hurry sort of thing and very fatty at times. Overall I would recommend!

Thought the hotel itself was immaculate, food good had a fantastic time, our room was cleaned everyday and all yes all!
The staff at this hotel were very helpful and spoke good English already trying to book for next year. Yes the prices were a little high, but that goes for everywhere not just this hotel!!!

What a place to be. This was a great...

Aug 2005, Mr B Morse

What a place to be. This was a great holiday. This was our second visit. Last time we stayed half board but this time went self catering. Not that we did much cooking, the restaurant was very cheap, it cost just 10e to eat and there was a good selection. I would recommend this to all.
The entertainment was very good and the beer was cold. One tip, if you plan to drink by the pool, go to the supermarket and buy your beer there its ice cold and a lot cheaper.

I have just returned from this hotel...
8 / 10
Jul 2005, Mr D Stoney

I have just returned from this hotel and the holiday was great!
The hotel is spotless with friendly helpful staff and good facilities. I had a 17yr old and an 11yr old as well as my partner! and there was plenty to do.
It’s opposite the beach and just a cool 15min stroll into Salou along the sea front. I read a few reviews before I left and they were all positive however there were a few niggles which I would have to echo.
Keep an eye on the price of your drinks in the restaurant! One evening I ordered a round of drinks with one less than the night before and they still tried to charge me the same amount. The entertainment is mainly for the kids and is manned by an animation team of Dutch, Swiss, Spanish and one English girl.
Queues for sunbeds start early and even though you are not allowed to put towels out it goes unmonitored, that goes for the evening dress in the restaurant plenty of people wore different to what the hotel asked but nothing happened. Overall a fantastic hotel great staff and immaculate! great bars in Salou and pay a visit to port Aventura, best price on the gate!
I would go back to the hotel, I have worked overseas as a holiday rep in the past and the med village rates amongst the highest I have worked at have a great time.

We travelled in May 05 for a 14 day...
3 / 10
May 2005, Mrs D Wiffen

We travelled in May 05 for a 14 day holiday. The hotel was nice and clean with plenty to do during the day but I am afraid to say it was boring in the evening. The rooms were nice and clean with satisfactory maid service. Lots of things to do for our 10 year old, nothing for our 16 year old. The evening entertainment started at 10pm and was finished by 11 pm. Leaving nothing to do, you could walk into Cap Salou where we found a karaoke bar called Mickey’s , quite good here with happy hour every night and a chance to have a good sing song. We tried to get a flight home early but failed to do so, the reps were not willing to help us one bit. We ended up going to stay in a holiday park in Salou, we stayed in a caravan it was very nice the holiday park was better than the hotel plenty to do with amphitheatre, bar, lovely pool with swim up bar. The Mediterranean village was very expensive and a complete waste of money, I have been to many different hotels, but this has been the worst ever for the entertainment side of things. It was the longest 2 weeks of my life, ok for early birds with young children, no good for young adults or teenagers.

This hotel was fantastic. It had some thing for everyone.
The staff were very helpful, the food was lovely and the facilities were fab. It was not at all loud on a night but I still wouldn’t have minded if it was. It was a fantastic holiday and I loved every minute if it.

5 of us went last year for 1 week now we are taking 10 people for 2 week and hope to have another fantastic holiday there.
I would recommend this hotel to any one!

An absolutely fab holiday, hotel was...

Sep 2004, maileysimone

An absolutely fab holiday, hotel was amazing, the staff were friendly, accommodating and always willing to help. Entertainment was wonderful (appropriate to all even those with young children), food was delicious, my husband is veggie and the choice was excellent. The hotel was outstanding; this includes staff, food, accommodation and children’s clubs. All in all an excellent two weeks, 14 travelled in our party and 14 are returning in September 2005 maybe even a few more. Thanks to all at the med for giving us a wonderful holiday and cant wait to see you in September. Even upon return and finding the dog had died (Susie) still couldn’t take the shine off a wonderful break.

Cap Salou is a lot quieter than Salou...
4 / 10
Sep 2004, Miss H Warner

Cap Salou is a lot quieter than Salou centre, it has 5/6 bars which all serve food till around midnight. Don Poncho’s which is directly opposite the hotel is great and the owner is very friendly.
The hotel was horrendous if you were a couple with no children and looking for a nice quite and relaxing holiday. We went away in September thinking there would not be many children there due to schools being in - we could not have been further from the truth. The hotel was full of screaming children who had hardly any supervision probably because their parents could not be bothered. We were encouraged to have a pool side view this was another big mistake as the evening entertainment went on till 12midnight and the outside bar did not close until 2am and people are not considerate over the amount of noise they make. So in short if you want to get a decent nights sleep don’t get a pool view - saying that though, when the rabble did decide to turn in they turned the hallways of the hotel in to party alley, this was not a one off, it was every night. I am not opposed to people staying up late while they are on holiday but it would have been nice for them to realise that not everyone wants this. The food was acceptable, being the least fussiest vegetarian I found something to eat all the nights we ate there but I would not say the quality was good - other than the desserts and that was a little hit or miss. Breakfast again was fine for me as I would have cheese/boiled egg and rolls. My partner being a non veggie but quite fussy had more of a problem with breakfast and gave up after 4 days.
Overall I would recommend the area, it was wonderful, we found a lovely beach between Cap Salou and Salou which was lovely and preferable to the main Salou beach which was very crowded - La Pineda had a lovely beach as well and looked really clean and tidy. Tarragona is a must for anyone interested in ancient history, if you go to Barcelona take the bus, it may be more expensive but at least you get a seat, we went on the train 1hr 15 mins each way and had to stand all the way there and back - not good.
I would not recommend the hotel, the Spanish staff were very helpful, the British staff and rep were worse than useless. It was definitely not what Brits would expect from a 4 star and only gets this because of the indoor heated pool! I feel really let down, this was an expensive holiday - one we couldn’t usually afford and I felt exhausted and in need of another holiday on my return.

Hotel suitable for: Families with...
5 / 10
Jul 2004, Ms Sue Donym

1 reader found this review helpful

Hotel suitable for: Families with children, people with hearing difficulties, couples that have had an argument.
Not suitable for: Honeymoon couples, people who hate music, keen swimmers and the nervous.
Best points: Entertainment for children and hotel staff - especially the reception staff, who constantly seemed to do their best under the great provocation of having to talk above the sound of a waterfall.
Worst: The constant noise - not only in the hotel (you can hear the people next door clearing their throats) but around the pool.
What you really want to know:
Follow the guidelines of other reviewers and don’t arrive before 1.30pm.
Take earplugs if a poor sleeper.

Watch the drinks bill in the dining room -this is the only bill in the hotel that is not itemised, so add it up before you pay it on the way out of the dining room. We drank the same thing every night but out bill varied, depending who was on the till.
Restaurant has a counter for vegetarians -and dieters in the morning... through the latter was not over popular. Children’s' counter.
Tomatoes - always a giveaway as to the quality of the food - not so good. Greenish and not as good as in the shops.
Heat of fried breakfast:
Medium to cool. Eggs not runny enough, bacon streaky and you would need to be an experienced heart surgeon to separate bacon from rind.
Choice of food:
Style - executive canteen but something for everyone from chicken nuggets and fish fingers to exotic fruit for breakfast. Puddings strangely similar in texture and taste but of different colours.
Percentage of waiters/waitresses who openly hate the guests:
Very low. Most of them are quite smiley and very good at re-setting tables etc.
The tattoo count is around 1 person in 5.
Quite a few guests from Ireland, Scotland - and indeed hotel has a Celtic pub. Some from Essex and the north, sprinkling from Wales and quite a few from the London area... although we may not have stayed during an average week.
Guests read: Mirror, Sun Mail and Scottish tabloids, News of the World and Sunday Mirror.
Lifts:
Always in working order and never had to wait over 90 seconds for one.
Bully count in the swimming pool: Only two Mad Dad’s and one Over-Competitive Dad but the pool was very crowded. Ball games, lilos, even inflatable caterpillars.... not a lot of swimming possible due to lack of space. Lifeguards were attentive to the swimmers and not to their own fingernails and other body parts.
Sun chairs: You have to be ready for the early morning dash for reclining chairs but you can still pick up flat ones, without mattresses around 10am. You will be shoulder to suntan-oiled shoulder with fellow guests.
Nasty pink carpet the you find in practically every British hotel:
Thankfully, as the hotel is new, so the decorations did not cause any major tantrums from pernickety lady guests or Laurence Llewellyn Bowen fans.
It has the usual ceramic floor that acts as a magnet sand for you to step into the bed for a sandpaper finish during the night. Take light sock slippers if you have a Princess and the Pea complex about sand.
Room size:
The hotel board rooms are split into three - bedroom, bathroom and balcony. The bedroom area is small compared the other two. Suitable for two adults and one child - or a very thin, agile family of four. Bathroom fixtures were all present.
Hair care:
There is a hair drier in the bathroom but it is one of those that you come out looking like the mad professor from Back to the Future if you use it. Suitable for those with crew cuts and the very short sighted. If you care about how you look take your own as this will save blocking the bathroom for everyone else.
Bathroom tile mould :
Clean and tile mould almost negligible. Not even rating the grey mould standard - as in so many hotels - and certainly not the disgusting brown or dreaded two-tone black fungus.
Entertainment:
Usual stuff, magic, parrots on bikes and acrobats with hoops and unicycles.
Tribute Four Tops/Temptations or whatever were an hour late and then sang ' The Green Grass of Home'. But, being megastars, they obviously got away with it.
Hotel Entertainment: was run by man over 40 with a ponytail, black eye liner and a strong tan. He may be your cup of tea.
Hotel entertainment team: Very good and displayed no signs of mental breakdown, despite having to sing the same songs over and over again and try and flog the kids CD's. Children enjoyed them tremendously.
Safety of children:
Security could be improved. Saw escape from compound by two street-smart kids, so it can be done.
When venturing out:
Watch you bags/wallets in Salou, something of a hotspot for pickpockets it seems - yes we got done, but thankfully only traveller’s cheques - and we’d been warned!
Be careful when boarding buses, and especially the little train. Also do not pay much attention when nice young lady tries to sell you something very small in the street. Apparently they work in gangs - one to dip and two or three to pass to. We were dipped by a middle-aged British woman and two teenage boys.
Police: Didn’t see a policeperson all the time we were there..... Well maybe a glimpse as their cars sped past.

Salou also seems to be entirely full of seaside shops. We could buy 40,000 varieties of towels/purses/ornaments/ T-shirts but didn’t find anywhere selling stamps or a chemist. However, only went in once due to mishap so there may be unexplored parts bursting with chemists.
Plenty of good beaches - look at the postcards in reception on Day One and find the one that appeals.
Direct Holidays - Missed Rep Stuart’s initial meeting as on urgent holiday business but must say he was a trier - posting notes under our door practically every day.
Seemed a nice enough chap when we said goodbye to him on the way home. He was on site a lot so we were confident that Stuart would have been as keen = as keen can be = to sign us up on any tours necessary.
All in all:
Booked late and got a cheap late deal - and got our money’s worth. Hotel not British 4-star standard but tries hard to be Spanish 4-star one.
Would we go again?:
Quite a few seem to return to this hotel but we like to get mugged somewhere different every year.

When I came with my family in...
9 / 10
Sep 2002, Miss E Whiting

When I came with my family in September 2002 I loved it! I went with my family and the rooms were lovely. the bathroom was clean and the beds and towels were changed regularly. The entertainment was great but got a bit boring after 2 weeks.
The pool was good but there is 3 things I was not so keen on:
On one side of the fountain there was some green gunge stuff and all there was to do was swim. It was also a bit cold.
The food was lovely to! In other hotels I have stayed in the food has been very salty but the food here was good.
I am going back to the same place in May 2006 and I cant wait. I would recommend it to anyone with kids under 16 and for young adults.
(sorry for any spelling mistakes as I am only 11 years old.)
