Love the Diplomat and all it's staff
from laurafhoward
We moved to The Diplomat having been at a terrible hotel nearby. Marika in reservations couldn't have been more helpful and from the moment we stepped into the cool lobby we were looked after and had the loveliest holiday. The General manager was most welcoming and offered us a free dinner. Everyone form the waitors to the bar staff to the cleaning staff were friendly and kind and helpful. We had the most fantastic views of the ocean form our spacious rooms. The location was perfect for the nightlife in Paceville or restaurants in St Julians and the little beach just across the road. Small but fab rooftop pool and sundeck. All in all I would highly reccommend this hotel. Thanks again, Marika and Jesmond. From Laura and Lorna form London

This is our second stay at the Diplomat having stayed in august 2004,and we were not disappointed they are just as friendly and obliging as before, the staff are only to willing to help you in any way they can be it for advice on sites to see or general information. It is beautifully situated on the promonade with lovely views out to sea.The rooms are light and spacious. My husband and I would really recommend this hotel for an enjoyable and relaxing holiday. Thank you Hotel Diplomat.
Horrible!!!
from Fuji_pt
Me and my wife (ages 33 and 30) stayed at the Diplomat for one week from 14 to 21 of August 2007 and we have to say it was a horrible experience... It all started at check in. We arrived at Malta about 3 in the morning and our room had other people in it!!! Can yoy believe this? We had a 3 hour flight after a hard day´s work and we couldn´tt even sleep. The staff was rude and so was the manager with whom I talked in the phone. I was rightfully upset with the situation and told the manager that I would not pay for that night. So the manager told me: "I don´t know why you are making such a fuss..." (!). After I spoke with the local liason I got a paper claiming that I would be refunded. By the way, I got that paper from an employee and the manager never spoke with me in person and never apologized for the inconvenience... As for the hotel: it´s old and badly equiped. Waiting for the elevators can be extremely stressfull. The elevator smell like sewage and the carpets in hallways are filhty. Rooms have no mini bar, the television was busted, the bath room had humidity all over the ceiling and the tub had horrible stains. All of the ceiling of the room had marks of dead mosquitos. As for the food: the breakfast is dull and with no variety, and dinner food is horrible (I had half board and ended up eating in restaurants). The only positive thing about this hotel is the location: 20 minute stroll to La Valetta ferry. Malta has a lots of things to do and visit. I would recomend a visit to the other islands. But its better to get a bus to the harbour up north and get a ferry to the other islands (Gozo and Comino) instead of Cptain Morgan Ferrys. Be carefull with the agencies and rent a car deals. Stay away from "Kollections" agency in Sliema harbour because it´s owner (Ivan) will rip you off!! We tryed to rent a car and he asked form 20 maltese lira, wich is well above average. Because we wanted a car for one day and it was hard to get (they prefer renting a minimum of 3 days) we returned to "Kollections" the next day and he raised the price!!! Other people had similar complaints. Besides all of that Maltese people in general are very kind and friendly. You will have a lot of fun in the sun...if you stay away from this hotel.

We have just returned from our stay at the diplomat and we would highly recommend the hotel to all age groups. All the staff were really helpful and pleasent. The rooms were cleaned everyday and fresh towels left. We went b&b and could not fault the breakfast, there was so much choice to cater for everyone. Pool area was kept clean and tidy everyday with plenty of beds to sunbathe. Overall,we enjoyed our stay at the diplomat and would defo stay again.
Diplomat Hotel Sliema

We have stayed at this hotel 4 times, in a variety of different rooms, with various board types. We have always been greeted by friendly staff who can't do enough for you, from the hotel manager to the receptionists, the bar staff and the housekeepers. The facilities offered by the hotel itself are comparable to any 4* hotel in Europe (air conditioned fitness room, 3 bars, pool, bureau de change etc) The hotel is always clean, with the public areas being very well presented. The rooms are certainly clean and comfortable, if in need of a lick of paint here and there. In terms of the food, there is always a wide selection of local and european dishes to choose from both at breakfast and dinner, and they have a weekly 'Maltese evening' with a singing folk duo. For location you would be hard put to beat this hotel, a stones throw from the beach and 2 mins walk from a bus stop that serves most of the island, it's also close to some very good restaurants (particularly San Giuliano, Spinola bay) overlooking the sea. We will definately continue to stay here on future visits to Malta.
Mossy Palace

This was an average 3* hotel which was let down by the number of Mosquitos that inhabited the place in particular the restaurant! I understand that in a hot country Mosquitos exist but the dining room was full of them and spoiled what looked like a decent breakfast. Otherwise the hotel was quite a decent place.
fantastic views

I was a bit concerned after reading previous reviews. But we only really needed somewhere to sleep so i had an open mind when i arrived. On arrival we were welcomed by the receptionist, and given the key to room 608, after about 2mins of being in room the phone rang with the receptionist being extremely apologetic as she had given us the wrong room. i was delighted to move as the view we had was only a side view and was pretty poor. I had payed extra on expedia to get a sea view, which when we moved to room 601 we werent dissapointed, its worth paying the extra as the view was amazing. The hotel was obviously not a 4 star as needed an upgrade but was comfortable enough for us and really it was only a place to sleep and wash for us as we was out and about every day. Breakfast was a buffet style and very nice. The rooftop pool/jaccuzzi was really good and not very busy so had pool to ourselves most times. The air con in room was a blessing as it was 39 degrees! the towels and bedding were changed daily. You do have to pay for tea and coffee and mini bar facilities but we didnt bother as was hardly there. The bus goes to st jullians every 10mins and costs 20cents or as we did walked back took 40 mins. Do not get a taxi unless goin to airport cost us 7lm which is about £15 so pays to walk. The night life in paceville was really good (fri/sat). If you want to spoil yourself go for a meal at San Giuliano restaurant in st jullians, its on a terrace looking over spinola bay. Was expensive but the service and food were amazing. I you get chance go on bus 645 to melehia bay (sandy beach go weekdays when locals not there), also visit blue grotto cave bus 8 from valletta bus station. All in all a fantastic holiday would reccomend to stay here, my mum and dad stayed at preluna at same time and our hotel was cheaper than theirs although preluna was more upmarket, but our view was better! Had a great time thankyou expedia!

What a great Hotel
from TheChook
I have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Malta and feel that I must make some comments about the Diplomat Hotel and its staff - The Hotel itself was well appointed, clean and the staff were all very helpful and also friendly especially first thing in the morning. The food in the Penny Farthing Restaraunt was both well presented and of a very good standard both at breakfast and in the evenings. The Lobby Bar was a wonderful place not just to meet other hotel guests but also for people watching as the sea front was very close by. One final commendation must go to the Manager Jesmond Grech who was always smiling and helpful and was of great assistance to me when I mislaid my wallet containing cash and my credit cards - Thanks again for all your help !. As you can see I am full of praise for the Hotel and its staff and would have no hesitation recommending it to future holiday makers from the UK.
Memorable stay at the Diplomat Sliema
from gruppetta
We had a memorable stay in this beautiful hotel. Our room was impeccable and the maid service is unquestionably the best there is. Our balcony overlooking the Mediterranean and the promenade below us is something to behold. We highly recommend this hotel to people who enjoy beautiful views and comfort. The food that was provided by the hotel is practically gourmet fare and the wait staff are ready to serve you hand and foot......to complete our stay the reception and the whole staff were ready to assist us in any difficulty we may have encountered.
food leaves a LOT to be desired... christmas day (what NO turkey) the only difference in the menu was we had coffee ... BLOODY EXPENSIVE AT AN EXTRA 20 EUROS EACH!!!!!!!!!!! 26th dec. hotel cared more for the private party in the evening and we were virtually `turfed out`... more
