I am just back from 1 weeks holiday from Guanabara Park, We arrived at 12 in the morning to be greeted by a receptionist that was less than pleasant, when we had difficulty in finding our aparatment on the 3rd attempt of being told to just turn left outside the reception the man in reception came to look and could not find it either. Anyway after eventually finding our room basic is not the word for it. Coloured towels coloured bed sheets light bulbs that where gone. we were lucky to not have any cockroches but we seemed to be the only ones. Alot of horrible looking cats in the complex.
After being told by the tour operator that the apartments were ten mins away from the centre of everything we found out the next day that we were actually 30-35 mins walk albeit taxis are plentiful and very cheap but that is not the point. I would not reccomend anyone to stay here it is very run down and in major need of a revamp to say the least.
Our beds were not changed and after I enquired about this I was told that the beds are not changed when you are only there for the week. When I asked if our beds could be changed the cleaners left us a pile of bed sheets in the room to change them ourselves.
The Staff are not nice the cleaners are very rude and dont show their faces very often in the apartments.

The Desert Rats 2010 tour descended upon the Gran Canaria and checked into the hotel Guanabara Park, on leaving the coach the rep just smiled and said good luck! I have to say the hotel looked quite basic but my god I was right it was basic. Mind you at least we were on the top level and glad we weren’t in the apartments lower down. We have been to the Gran Canaria on lots of occasions but this was the first time on the other bay from Puerto Rico, and the broacher said it had a sea view and boy it got that right, mind you when your that high up then all you see is the sea and the “White Cliffs of Dover”!........Oh and if it get cloudy then that’s not a problem because your above them Lol!
The hotel was built in the 60’s and I think nothings been up-dated since then, the apartment was crawling with ants everywhere and I even found them in my cereal box having a good old tuck in. My mate Rat One went to bed one night and in the morning he was on the sofa, he said the ants must have carried him out during the night. The outside door had a gap the size of a 4 foot letter box which when closed you could still greet the neighbours good morning! As for the pidgins, well all I can say is keep moving otherwise you were target practice and boy could they crap! Oh and if you didn’t manage to get a sun tan that day then you could always stand in front of the sink mirror and switch on the 4 lights around the mirror fitted with 200 watt bulbs, if wasn’t glowing before you shaved then you certainly was after!!!
Entertainment, well what do you say about this? Answer….Do yourself a favour and head down the hill and keep going because the compare had a go but like the hotel it needs a major overall. Paul thinks he looks like “Elvis”, now I think if Elvis could hear Paul then he would turn in his grave. Some people have said this hotel was great a few years ago; just wish someone could have turned the clock back hey!
All in all we still managed to have a really good time in Puerto Rico but that’s the last time im going 2 Star, and not sure that I would ever recommend this hotel to anyone. One last thing, thank god “Super Leo” was at hand behind the bar to cheer us up!

Stayed at the Guanabara park in May 2010 with my boyfriend.Really disappointing accomodation, infested with pigeons and subsequently their deposits, below basic beds (double room = two single beds),broken shower, two hobs for cooking,NOTHING else,we had to fry everything and most important no airconditioning (we had to sleep with frozen bottles of water beside us).Not reccommended for children at all, literally nothing to do the only option being to endure the 40 minute walk down to the beach in the not so comfortable 40 degree heat. Also be vigilant of belongings on Puerto Rico beach. From my bag ,my purse and ipod touch were stolen while in the water.
I would not reccommend this accomodation to anyone even those just wanting a basic relaxing holiday,You'd be absolutely mad to book there. My advice pay the extra 50 euros and stay somewhere half decent you will really thank me!

Entertaining ? Paul tried his best but once you have heard him thats ok but to carry on in a few disguises during the stay is a bit much ,he hasnt got much humour when the joke is on him ,we had a good stay me and my wife carol and phil you might have glimps me in the mornings on my daily run ,if you dont like hills this holidy is not for you in the town center they are plenty off time share selling over price holidays £140000 for 1 week and you have to pay about a £1000 each year ,and pay the money in 6mth not much of a bargain the chinease in the comecial center ws value for money but they sting you on the drinks but less than £20 for 2 include all you can eat and 2 pints off drink is not to bad,if you have kids make sure you have entertainment for them as there is none there the staff are sour face exept the little chef the pool is heated which was a bonus

My cousin and I stayed at Guanabara Park and had a wonderful holiday, apart from the tour operator (Thomas Cook)!!!!
Having had a two hour delayed flight, we were put on a minibus by the Thomas Cook Rep and the minibus driver took us off (without the Rep) and delivered us to some apartments, which he announced was Guanabara Park! Because we had arrived late at night the security guard gave us a room key and pointed us in the direction of our apartment. The next morning, reception phoned through to request our presence. On arrival at reception we found the bus driver had taken us to the wrong accommodation, which due to our tiredness and lack of obvious signage at the complex hadn't been obvious the previous night. On contacting Thomas Cook they told us to pay the hotel bill and get a taxi ourselves to Guanabara Park, which we did. They did refund us the money, but there was no real help from them otherwise!
Once we had settled in to our correct accommodation, we found the complex and our apartment to be clean and tidy at all times, everyone was very friendly from the receptionist to the bar staff and the cleaners. The one thing that really made the holiday complete was Paul Santangelo the entertainer. He deliberately delivers a "cheesy" show, which is hilarious. He does Elvis tributes, not impersonations, Rat Pack tributes and a cheesy DJ called Lionel Vinyl. He involves the audience and by the end of the week we had made many friends, thanks to Paul. He makes a point of learning everyone's names and gets to know them personally. There were quite a few Scandinavians staying and he made sure to include them at all times.
Although the Guanabara Park is the other side of the hill to the main resort of Puerto Rico, it is not far to walk or catch a taxi, but not really recommended if you cannot walk far and don't want to be paying for taxis. It is in a lovely quiet spot and not quite so heavily built up as the main resort area.
We would recommend this accommodation to anyone, but please don't use Thomas Cook!!!!

what a brilliant went with my husband and 2 kids, we arrived at 3 in the morning to be greeted by a wonderful and very pleasent receptionist, alot of the lads were hanging round she was pretty, but anyways, room were very clean, cleaned 3 times a week, food was good, wouldn't say it was excellent but was enough for a week, entertainment was something else, i would advise going to the shopping centre or Europa centre for good entertainment. beach is about 5 min walk from hotel or there is taxi's you can get for about 2euros. the bottom shopping centre you do get hassled and charge more for drinks. I found that this holiday was brilliantwith goiing on trips not much to do in daytime for kids either, hotel is fanastic and hope to be returning next year.

guanabara park is a very basic holiday apartment, it was exactly what we were looking for because lets face it all you do is sleep in your apartment. the pool bar staff were so friendly we found ourselves there most nights and the food was nice. id say this is a great place to stay if your on a budget and need a break away.

We have just returned home from a fantastic 1 week holiday staying at the Guanabara Park apartments Peurto Rico. The weather was fantastic reaching 36 degree's. My Fiance and I ( both early 30's) went along with my mum and dad. I want to go back already infact ive already been looking on the internet to rebook ... and yes I would definately stay here again.
When we arrived , the resort was very overcast , rainy and as we drove upto the apartments we couldnt beleive how far out the way it was. Having stayed in Peurto Rico at the Cala Nova before (which are very central)Guanabara really is out the way.
As you face the sea Guanabara Park is around to the left and high up in another valley we didnt even know this valley exsisted. To be honest at one point we all thought "oh no what have we done" but little did we know what a great holiday was just around the corner.
About Guanabara Park -
The apartments are basic but very clean with great views. Cleaners made our beds everyday, changed towels , washed our pots and closed the curtains so our apartments were cool on our return. We didnt see any bugs but there are a few friendly cats hanging around.
The bar area served drinks and food allday. Food not that good and drinks abit pricey. 3 Euro pint (of local) and 2 Euro for half , soft drinks 2 Euro. Staff friendly. The on site shop was NEVER open so make sure you come well equipted cause we were gagging for a brew when we arrived.
Nearest shop is netto its a absolute rip off (nearly 3 Euros loaf of bread). It takes about 20 mins to walk there which is all down hill but if you continue around to the harbour theres a cheaper supermarket. A taxi back would be about 2.50 Euros so make sure you stock up with the essentials ....
The pool area is lovely and clean lots of lounges with a spectacular view.
On site entertainment is none exsistant - Paul the host is a lovely bloke but really dosnt float my boat. He do's the entertainment everynight, all I can say is pure cheese. They advertised a BBQ which we had, 10 Euro each , we were well disappointed. The food had been cooked in the kitchen and set out so it was actual a hot buffet although they did advertise a BBQ on our last night which we noticed was a real BBQ !! .. typical.
Reps will try and sell excursions. Go down to the harbour where you can get your day trips/activities for alot cheaper that what they selling for.
The resort itself -
Would definately recommend visiting Mogan. Its a beautiful idilic port like something out of a movie. Return is 10 Euro each and takes 30 mins be ferry. Some lovely restaurants.
Would also recommend the red speed boat. It takes you out to sea for about 20 mins .. only 15 Euros (normally 30) peak times... plus Nigel the Aussy owner not bad either !!
If your like us and like a drink most of the bars in the Main shopping mall will do 2 pints of local beer for 4 Euros, although some will rip you off. Nice restaurant for steaks and great service El Toro and lovely English breaky Squires opp Macdonalds...
Live entertainment up at the Europa centre. Barbacoa hosts live entertainment everynight look out for trixy lynx - hilarious drag act not for people that lack sense of humour as can be abit close to the knuckle to say the least.
Anyway could go on forever had a fabulous holiday and would go back tomorrow. Hope this has been a help.
Have a great time ........

My husband and I have not long come back from here, we had a lovely time we really enjoyed it. The apartments were basic and dated, but clean and tidy, with maids coming every other day, the pool was spot less.Every morning this area was washed down including the sunbeds& ashtrays. the walk to the beach was OK but hard work coming back. we did have a taxi at night time. We would highly recommend it. The views were spectacular with amazing sunsets. Not forgetting the very friendly staff. We are looking to return next year.
