Reviews of Melia White House Hotel, Camden Town London, London
Melia White House Hotel, Camden Town London
The Melia White House hotel is located near to the city centre, close to Regents Park and opposite Great Portland Street underground station. Oxford Street is also only ten minutes walk away, so a great location for shopping. The hotel is housed in a grey modern looking 8-storey building typical of the period in which it was built (1930's). It has a large modern style lobby with marble and columns.

After Christmas myself, my mum and her partner went to London so I could hit the sales. We'd spent a couple of weeks looking at different offers over the internet and the Melia White House seemed good value for such a nice-looking hotel.
We arrived on the first day of our two-night stay and were immediately greeted from our taxi by two friendly concierges who took our bags allowing us to adjust to the hotel.
It had a lovely foyer with the main reception situated right next to the bar.
However we had, much to the amusement of all us, managed to secure a Royal Service room and therefore had our own private check in with a little red carpet running up to it, which was quite embarrassing to be honest.
The people, though they weren't English, spoke very clearly and were very polite, sorting us out quickly and efficiently. We took the lift (which had no buttons on the inside) up to our floor and found our room easily.
It was spacious but the bathroom, though lovely and clean, was rather small. The king size bed was comfortable however the other bed was alike to an extremely uncomfortable sofa bed, with the springs groaning and the pillows constantly slipping down the back.
The room had two televisions which had terrestrial TV and a few satellite channels, however most of these were in Spanish, understandable I suppose seeing as how the company was Spanish and indeed there were few British guests at the hotel.
As Royal Service guests we had a separate dining room and bar. The breakfast was ok, but not really the choice you would expect from a four star hotel.
The staff however were very pleasant and made polite conversation, which gave it a welcoming atmosphere. In the Royal Service bar after 6.00pm we could enjoy complimentary alcoholic and soft drinks and also snacks such as cakes and crisps, even a small finger buffet later in the evening.
Though this was very attractive, there was no entertainment which tended to make the night rather dull. The hotel was about 20 minutes walk from places such as Oxford Street which made it quite convenient but its distance from places such as Harrods made it extremely beneficial that there was always a taxi waiting outside the hotel.
The only criticisms I could find with this hotel are that there is no entertainment and that the cleaning ladies often went into the rooms whilst you were at breakfast, meaning that you had to wait to pick up your coats and bags for the day, often up for up to 40 minutes.
However I would recommend this hotel, particularly to couples, as a great place to stay if you are going to London for a long weekend as it is lovely, has very friendly staff and is a good base if you are going shopping.
