Aug 2007, Mr M Phelan

We booked this hotel to be near the theatre as we had booked to see a show, the hotel was not the cheapest we could have booked but was chosen for the location. On arrival the lobby looked big, clean and tidy, that's where the good impressions finished. The room was the... more

We booked a short break in London but wanted a Hotel that was central to all the attractions, so chose the St Giles purely for location. Pricewise we could have stayed cheaper if we had wanted a hotel a little further away from the City Center. For the location this hotel... more

Avoid this hotel.
I do not usually feel compelled to reveiw hotels as i find that in the whole most are satisfatory and that is good enough as i would not consider myself a moaner. However, the St Giles hotel is an exception to this rule and should be avoided in my opinion. There are better hotels in london than this. The problems we had with the room firstly was the size, this is the smallest hotel room i have ever stayed in. I have stayed in over 100 in the last few years. The tv is only a small portable tv (ours did not work properly and hissed all... more
a real find
Stayed 2 nights in late October 2004 for $139 a night, standard twin room, booked on British Airways Holidays website. (This included tax and breakfast.) What a deal, compared to most of what I could find on the Internet about London hotel rates (even the hostels seem high). Room was small, to be sure, but who goes to London to sit in a hotel room? Since the weather was fine, I can't comment on heating or air-conditioning. But a great location, centrally-located and very close to an underground stop; great breakfast; free use of the... more
Excellent Location
We found this hotel to be just what we needed for a weekend in London. Excellent location, reasonably priced and 1 minute from the tube station. Yes, the rooms are small but clean and comfortable. The staff were polite and happy, which makes a difference and the bar was not overpriced and served us until 1.30am. We will definitely stay here again but appreciate that it might be a bit noisy in summer with the window open for ventilation - the air conditioning system in the room is incredibly loud! We didn't eat breakfast at the... more
the wonderful hotel thats st giles.
me and my beutiful girlfreind just got back after staying in st giles hotel, it was perfect, the hotel is all marbled and looking stunning, the place its situated is perfect right next to oxford street, well id booked for me and my girlfriend to go to phantom of the opera and stay in the hotel overnight. the room we stayed in was perfect ..lovely and clean ..and it did'nt need a coat of paint, not to mention the underground gym and fitness and sauna and dancing lessons room. and it even had its own church chapel, amazing. The staff there... more
Excellent location
Have stayed in the St Giles around 15 times this year so far. I must admit the main reason being its location (close to the Dominion Theatre), but I find it completely acceptable. It is only 3 star and obviously can't compete with the Jurys Hotel close by, but that is a 4 star and the price reflects this. Yes, the rooms are small, and a little jaded in places, but personally speaking, they have always been clean and tidy. Yes it is noisy outside, but then again you've chosen a hotel in the centre of London, so what do you expect. Yes,... more
great location
I have stayed in the St Giles many times. This is a great hotel in a great location. The rooms are compact but adequate. The price is reasonable for the area and finish. This is a great place to just crash out whilst enjoying London.
Location, location, location!
The location is what makes the St Giles a great place to stay. I stayed in a double room with my friend, it was very small and needed a paint job. It would sometimes take ten minutes to get an elevator, which did get annoying after a while. Also the shower was very small but the water pressure was great. It is in a great location, just a minute walk to the tube (Tottenham Court Road) and next to all the shows. The hotel is in an excellent location. The staff there was great, whenever I needed cabs they would arrange it for me.... more
OK, as long as you don't need to sleep, eat or use lifts
Room was adequate but not great. The hotel's main problem is that its general resources seem to be outstripped by the number of its rooms. Breakfast facilities are small and understaffed. You have to join a long queue for the breakfast buffet, and when you have loaded up your tray, chances are you won't find a table to eat at. If you do, it might have been cleared, but probably won't have been cleaned. Everything in the breakfast room is messy and sticky - I recommend you don't go to breakfast wearing nice clothes, and it'll be an unusual... more
Hotel stay 13/14 August 2004
We stayed for 2 nights on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th August, for £136 in total, £68 per night. We were in a standard room 8th floor. LOCATION: 2 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Oxford St shopping and theatre district and nearest tube station. Great location. ROOMS: The standard rooms are very small ie, about the same size as a std cabin on a ship. There is NO air conditioning and it was hot in London during our stay, around 75 F. There is a small window that opens around 8 inches wide, but as the hotel is in a very... more
Such a great location !
I just came back from London where I spent 4 days and 3 nights. I stayed at the St-Giles in a triple room and even if it wasn't that big I found it totally acceptable for a Londonian room ! The hotel is very big, lots of people are arriving and leaving all day long and the amount of people working there is incredible. The hotel is clean, so are the rooms (even if they could use some paint). Rooms are cleaned and bath towels are changed every day. Breakfast is good and you can take as much as you want seeing it's a buffet... more
