I stayed at the hotel as part of a trip. Whilst the rooms were amazing, the staff and food was absolutely awful. The rooms are not as advertised, well some aren't. Also there is NO pool. The room has the basic requirments, a bed which is really comfy, a TV with good... more

Two friends and I booked a two night stay at this hotel on a package deal which included rail travel through Thomas Cook. This was our first ever visit to London and found this hotel to be in a brilliant location for us. The underground was a 2 minute walk away and Kings... more

We booked The Royal National as a half term treat for our 7yr old. I was very dubious after reading previous reviews and was prepared to be totally under whelmed with the hotel. However we were pleasantly surprised. The reception staff was helpful and friendly we checked... more

I cannot possibly explain to you how disappointed I was with this hotel! The staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful. When we arrived, despite booking a double room, we were told there were none available, I explained about pre-booking and I was told "you can push the... more

This Hotel whilst being ideally situated near Russell Square Tube Station is diabolical. The hotel was advertised as 3* but it certainly did not come up to that standard by a long way. We had asked for a quiet room but were given a room overlooking the main road, we could... more

Clean and tidy hotel, rooms were no smaller than travel lodge. Ideal for tube station and bus tour stops outside hotel so ideal for all tourist attractions. We felt safe returning to hotel late at night, no problems with security. Breakfast was continental or full, both... more

Love it
I have been to London 6 times, and 5 out of the 6 times I have stayed in this hotel. I agree it's not the nicest, but for poor college students it's better than a hostile. I didn't seem to have any problem with the staff, they can be rude, but alot of english people elsewhere where rude. The breakfast isn't good, but they have a market just around the corner that is cheap and has alot of good stuff to buy to snack on throughout the day. This hotel in in walking distance to convent garden, picaddily circus, and the british museum, and if you... more
YIKES!
I was there last month(NOV).I begin to wonder myself why BA promote this hotel ?? 1. It needs a real big renovation job 2. over crowded at lobby with all kind of people checking in and out..shouting & smoking.. So very un organized 3. I rather stay at London Inn - Bayswater for little less and easy excess to underground. what a shame! BA! you should take them out of their fav list!
A gem of a hotel
A great hotel in a great neighborhood. None of the amenities of higher priced hotels however it is conveniently located and the room we had was clean. We landed at Heathrow, went downstairs to the tube and about 20 stops later got off at Russell Square, which is a two minute walk to the hotel. The food in the hotel restaurant was great and the hotel staff curteous. We met lots of great people from all over the UK and Europe in the restaurant and the pub. The British Museum is a short walk away and the other big attractions only a few tube... more
Well worth it
Got an excellent deal from British Airways. I stayed for 4 nights and will definately stay there again. Don't go there expecting the Ritz Carlton, it's an average hotel with clean rooms and beds, and convieniently located....what else do you need? The staff were cordial, and everything you needed was there or nearby. The coffee shop was nice as well. It's a no-miss for the price.
Royal National- a clean, convenient tourist class hotel!
We had a newly renovated room with a great shower, new granite counter, new rug and blonde wood closet & furniture. Our courtyard room was noisy when drunken guests got rowdy out there, but pretty quiet otherwise. The lobby was run-down, but I'd rather have a nice room than a nice lobby! Housekeeping did a fine job cleaning every day, although no hair dryers were available to borrow due to the large number of guests. The breakfast was just toast, rolls, cereal, tea/coffee, but a full breakfast was available for an extra cost. Location is... more
Royal National - Value for money; no frills
We stayed last at the Royal National over the Easter holiday this past April, 2003. The Royal National is in a nice section of London which is very convenient to public transportation. British Airways maintains a desk there and several tours leave from this hotel, making it a main hub of activity. The staff as indicated from other reviews aren't the type you see on commercials for Holiday Inn or anything.. They do their jobs and check you in, and generally try to accomodate you though. Your in the largest hotel in London at one... more
better than expected!
First impression at check-in was bad, huge queues, chaos, being sent from one check-in to another. The guys at check-in were very friendly and helpful later on when one of our party had her purse stolen in the street. Reception area looks grubby so didn't hold out much hope for the rooms but they were spacious, clean and modern. Very noisey at night with police sirens - windows didn't block out any noise. Cafeteria at lunch time - expensive, unappetising, grubby (and unfriendly, gormless staff). Breakfast was chaotic but food was... more
Spotlessly clean, Great location
After reading some of the other reviews, I wasn't expecting to be all that satisfied with the Royal National. But I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were kept spotlessly clean, the housekeepers were quite willing to make up two twin beds as a double, the sheets were always fresh and clean, there were plenty of towels, a wonderful big, deep tub (and shower), and I didn't meet any surly workers which at least one reviewer experienced. The Continental breakfast was probably average, no great shakes, but enough to keep one going until... more
Why is Brithish Airways promoting this dump?
I am very concerned when a reputable airline like British Airways use or recommend the Royal National. The unassuming traveller is left to fend for themself in a strange city with rude and surly staff and horrible conditions. British Airways should certainly check out the hotel before recommending it as part of their travel package. Shame on you BA.
Avoid!
The only good things about the Royal National are its convenient location and the fact that it is clean and cheap. It's also the only hotel I've ever stayed in where we had to climb into the bathtub to get around the door to reach the toilet. The plaster was peeling off the walls, there was a hole in the ceiling, and the furniture consisted of two single cots on wheels and a small table. Breakfast consisted of a roll and small container of fruit juice which had to be fetched on a tray from a room down a loooong hall. The first night we ate... more
