I was 7 days at Atismar Hotel /july 2008/ and must say I would not recommend this place to any of my friends and I am not going to come back here in future. The level of service was very poor, we had almost the same breakfast every morning /without any changes, always... more

We've just stayed for a week at Atismar hotel and had a fantastic time. Despite what some of the older reviews might suggest the food was lovely with a good selection for breakfast - bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal as well as cold meats and bread rolls. The staff... more

Myself and a friend stayed at the Atismar for the weekend. The staff was very friendly to us and made our stay very welcoming. It was my friend's 30th Birthday and they surprised her with House Champers which was extremely kind, free of charge. The rooms were clean, tidy... more

The worst hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. I was allocated a room already occupied by a couple in bed! I was then re-allocated to a room with what appeared to be fecal matter floating in the toilet, despite a label across the lid informing me that the toilet... more

We found the Hotel Atismar clean and the staff very friendly but the food for the most part was inedible. In fact one night someone shouted out after trying to cut the Pork rib, I have found a name here it says DUNLOP and the residents laughed at the remark. The only dinner... more

We just got home from this holiday. I wouldn't ever recommend this hotel to anyone. The accommodation was fine. The staff were too, but the 'Food' wasn't fit for my dog, good job he wasn't there. There wasn't any choice at all for breakfast. Cereal, toast, and cold meats... more

Hotel Location was great and easy to find. Right opposite the Wednesday market which was great as we found many great bargain deals. Parking was not a problem no matter what time we were there, day or night. We were at the Beach front and were given a room on the 11th... more

The fact that a dual carriageway with a single service road on either side that runs past the Atismar Hotel is enough to put anyone off. We were located in a double room with balcony at the rear of the building facing the sea. The view of the sea (boring) was made more... more

The Atismar experience
Having just come home from a weeks stay in the Atismar hotel, here is our review. Location-Good. 2 mins walk from the beach. Staff - Friendly and mostly English speaking. Accomodation- Good, clean and plently of room for 2: bathroom-toilet,bath,beday and shower. Food- Not so good. We opted for half board but only eat in resturant upon arrival. Buffet style school dinners. Plenty of it if your hungary: Quantity rather than quality. Breakfast is cereal, meats and cheeses. We found some good reaturants only 5-10 mins walk away- fillet steaks for 12.50 euros(very good!). Overall we enjoyed our stay and would look to stay in the neighbouring town of Vilamoura- a must visit.
Close to everything
Just returned from staying at the Atismar Hotel. Great location, the bus station is just behind the hotel (useful for day trips to nearby towns), the post office is 5 minutes away, there's also the big Wednesday morning market just behind the building. I found the restaurant/ bar staff were fantastic, busy and focussed with what they had to do. The reception staff could have been friendlier. Breakfast was great (rolls, jams, cereals, hams, cheeses) though the evening meal could have been better (the veg was always overcooked and mushy). In the end, we had a big lunch and saw the evening meal as more of a snack. It was difficult being vegetarian, besides salad, there wasn't much for me to eat at the hotel. The room was very clean, towels and bedding changed daily. One big negative was that the hotel description states all rooms have balconies. Ours didn't have one, which was dissapointing and the hotel was full, so we were unable to change rooms. Our room was on the top (11th) floor, which had fantastic views of the sea. I don't think any other floor would have the views though. The beach is 2 minutes away and we found plenty to see and do in the town. The hotel was okay for our short break.
fab hotel
we have returned from a very nice stay at the Atismar hotel, I had read some very bad reports about it and was anxious about what to expect, but I needn't have worried. The room was one of the best I have stayed in, we had two balconies, and it was spotless. The food was very good, didn't have a wide choice, but there was always a extensive range of salad starters, and a choice of fish or meat. I will definitely be going back.
open minded
we went to the atismar with an open mind having read earlier reviews, my honest opinion is very clean, SOME of the staff are cheerful some are downright miserable, hugo who works the bar most of the time is an absolute assett to the atismar. thou we paid for b/b and e/meal we ate out most of the time we ad 3 meals at the atismar and unless u fancy salad for breakfast u will be quite dissapointed. there are no facilities in rooms for making a drink even tho half the time the snack bar wasnt open and the bar doesnt open till 6pm, so on a rainy day which we had a few times you have no choice but to go out if you fancy a drink of any kind. would also reccomend using the public phones as opposed to the phone in hotel room. we got quite a shock when we asked for our hotel phone bill. for any english staying at the atismar there is a nice english run pub called the mona lisa just up the road from hotel where the food is basic but very good.
Good hotel for the price we paid
We have just returned from spending Christmas at the Atismar. After reading negative reviews of this hotel we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms are excellent, towels changed every day and bed linen every couple of days. Breakfast was continental style but perfectly adequate and we enjoyed the evening meals, although there was only a limited choice. We were told not to expect any gala meals but on Christmas Eve we were offered a complimentary port on arrival in the restaurant and the menu was very good. Unfortunately the weather was terrible and we experienced the wettest Christmas Day ever!! However the rooms had excellent heating (even in the bathroom) but only one English TV channel. One of the local bars 'Fantasia' had a really good atmosphere and excellent food if you want a change from the hotel. Drinks at the hotel bar are reasonably priced. Taxis cost around the same as the buses if four people travel together. I suggest you visit Cliff Richard's winery at Guia, the Wednesday market in Quarteira and the old town at Albuefira. This was our 4th visit to the Algarve and we always find the people to be extremely helpful and friendly.
A great two weeks.
We spent two lovely weeks at this hotel. Our room was large and very comfortable with a balcony at the back that looked out over the sea, and a balcony at the front overlooking the road.We were surprised that we could not hear much road noise even though we often left the balcony door ajar at night. People were complaining about the food, but we found there was a choice each evening of a meat dish or a fish dish, always well cooked. The home made soup served each evening was always delicious as was the well presented salad bar.All in all a great holiday at a great price Well done to the staff who made our holiday enjoyable.
My personal opinion
Shortly and honestly: 1. The very early opinion - huge, poor building with plenty of rooms to rent... 2. Rooms - the strongest advantage of this hotel - clean, quite nice rooms. 3. Meals - 2 weeks of the same menu. I dream about eggs, sausages or something warm for breakfast. Forget it - only thin slices of ham and cheese, cucumber and tomates (slices). And rolls... Dinners? Extreme soups, only one recipe for fish dish (flour added and fried)... 4. Staff in Restaurant. It was interesting when German pensioners (sorry - tourists) taught waiters to smile and spaek basic words of culture - "thank you or danke", "please or bitte", and etc. Funny or sad? The decision belongs to you...
Clean but not well maintained
If you're looking for a clean room and bed to spend the night in then I can recommend the Atismar. However if you're looking for good cuisine and evening entertainment then keep looking - this is not the hotel for you. My wife and I stayed at the Atismar from 31 Aug to 07 Sep 2005, the room was clean although there was rust next to the bath plug-hole, this wasn't a big problem because bath plugs were not supplied (I checked this with other English tourists who said the same) The general standard of building maintence is not good with water dripping from the ceiling of the cafeteria, when I reported this I was informed that there was a leaking toilet on the floor above, I was not impressed. With the exception of a young lady named Mafalda Reis, I did not find the hotel staff to be particularly pleasent or helpful, if you want information from them it is advisable to consider your question carefully before asking it as they will only answer your question and will not volunteer anything which may be related or helpful.
Shame about the food
On the 10th floor - nice room - 2 balconies- good air con. Clean with good maid service. Poor lifts. Breakfast OK - dinner terrible - such a shame. Staff very friendly. Very well located for the beach. In a nutshell - good hotel, shame about the food.
Good, clean basic hotel
Spent a week here from 29th Sep-6 October. Found all to be ok. Reception staff superb letting us check in 4 hours early. Room: Absolutley adequate- bright and clean with the most fantastic beech view- any other floor would not have been the same though! Towells and beds changed everyday. Breakfast was basic, bread and cheese, but tasty. Dinner was not up to much, set menu with 2 choices and so we took advantageof the many food places along the beach front and a found a great cocktail bar also. There was a coffee shop at the hotel with a limited menu but you could stand at the counter for 10 mins before managing to attract somones attention! Basically, if you get this hotel for a bargainprice as we did, it will serve its purpose absolutley fine!
