Barcelo Playa Langosta Hotel

The staff and the service was excellent. If I asked for help, it was done as soon as possible and always with a smile. Building 6 was quiet, clean and comfortable. Early mornings on the balcony with a cup of Costarican coffee and binoculars to watch the parrots in the trees nearby was a wonderful calm way to start the day. My wife and I went to the Barcelo Langosta Hotel from 4/5-14/05 which is a five minute walk from the dirt road but cute town of Tamarindo. The Barcelo is an all-inclusive resort in the village of Langosta Beach and one block from the expensive but adorable Cala Luna Resort. Travel agents who claim to specialize in Costa Rica wanted $800 more for 9 nights at the Barcelo than I luckily paid from Hotels. Highlights: 1. Food (great selection...especially good for families) 2. Fun entertainment...a little cheesy, but the kids really enjoyed it 3. I stayed in this hotel march 2004. The hotel is very nice. The food is decent. The alcohol is not top shelf. The price is excellent ( I work for an airline though so I get a discount). The beach is beautiful for watching the sunset and relaxing but not to swim in. It is a surfers beach. The lounges are those plastic, uncomfortable ones. We also had a downright inferior experience at this hotel during our stay from April 2-9. My wife and I were traveling with a 10 month old -- so it's too bad we had such big problems. Langosta Beach is a great location -- but we found way too many negatives to recommend this place. I just got home from a four night stay at the Barcelo. Well, not exactly... Another couple, my wife and I were supposed to stay at this hotel, but they over-booked and had us stay down the beach about a mile at the Cala Luna for the first two nights. While the Cala Luna is nice, they were not an all-inclusive, so we had to take a cab back and forth for all meals/drinks. A ROYAL PAIN. This is Costa Rica were cabs are not plentiful or punctual. Beutiful protected beach Bad for swimming...large tides. Birdwatching was ok for sea birds...not too many inland birds. Clean comfortable rooms...good service. Odd selection of food, but anyone kind find a good meal with the large selection. Very hot...beach is great for walks along the mangrove swamp. Most tours are all day...I went to Buena Vista...very nice...Zip lines, water slide, horse back ride, volcanic mud bath. If you go on a tour you will miss breakfast. This has got to be one of the best all inclusive resorts in the North Pacific region of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. My wife and I just returned from seven night stay at this beautiful resort and I cannot think of one negative incident that happened during our entire stay. The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpfull from the moment we arrived until the minute we departed. Just came back on March 1/05. Stayed 2 weeks. What an exciting place to visit. The Resort is quaint, very clean and excellent food. Administration: Well greeted but not too willing to help when a problem arises. Overall good! Room: Very clean, we did not have any problems with this musty smell. Just returned from Costa Rica...am anxious to return. We stayed at the Barcelo Langosta and had a wonderful time. The staff was very friendly and helpful..they work from sunrise to sunset. We had an excellant guide we booked through TAM tours at the hotel. His name was Diego Sandi and he made our trip one to remember..we had 4 teenagers with and they were loving every minute of the rainforest hike and the zip lines through the trees. We did the Buena Vista Safari tour with a private guide...worth every minute of the cost. Kids loved... more
