The best hotel in Zante
from A TripAdvisor Member
Was at the Bitzaro Grande hotel on an all inclusive basis from 22 June to 6 July. Have visited Zante 5 times previously but have to say this was the best holiday ever. Not only is the hotel of a high standard, but the food was excellent, the staff very friendly, the rooms kept immaculate on a daily basis but the entertainment was excellent. Thomas, Alex, Tanya, Iya and Angie (my surrogate sister) all helped to make our holiday special. For those who get bored with sunbathing, they had games and activities throughout the day which kept everyone happy. The bingo is a good laugh as well (although the same people were the lucky winners a lot!!!!) I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to everyone. There were young couples, small groups of friends, as well as families and older couples all mixing and enjoying the holiday together. We made some great friends at the Bitzaro and we are all planning our trip for 2007!
a joy to stay here

My wife and I have just returned from a 2 week all inclusive stay at this hotel. It is one of the best hotels we have stayed at.Everything is clean and tidy and all the staff are very helpfull. We went for a relaxing break and that is what we had, although you can choose to take part in a number of activities throughout the day run by an excellant animation team. The pool and garden areas are very well maintained and there are enough sun beds to go around. There is a limited choice of food at lunch and dinner times however you can have a nice snack at the pool bar during the day.The resort of Kalamaki is only a short walk from the hotel and it has a wide variety of pubs and tavernas. The hotel is quite near the end of the airport runway and you do get some noise but this does not effect your holiday in any way.The only negative point I can find about this hotel is the lack of staff at the two bars.We would recommend this hotel to couples and young families.
Very nice hotel.

We stayed at the Bitzaro Grande Hotel for 1 week at the end of May 2006. We stayed on an all inclusive basis, and having been to Mexico the previous two years, we were a little apprehensive of whether the Greeks could do it as well. We weren't disappointed at all with the food, but it wasn't on a such a grand scale as Mexico, and the choice wasn't as varied, but we still enjoyed it very much. The all inclusive drinks were local branded only, which we didn't mind. The entertainment on an evening was OK, hosted by Thomas, a very funny Austrian. We had some good laughs. We didn't venture out of the hotel much, as it was a definite R&R holiday, but what we did see of the resort we were pleased with. If you aren't staying on an all inclusive basis, there are plenty of bars & restaurants in Kalamaki and also further down the coast at Laganas. We went briefly to Zante town, which had some nice shops, and we also went turtle spotting from Laganas. They guarantee you to see turtles, and we did ! An hour on a boat cost 10 Euros each, not bad. Back at the hotel, we found sun loungers to be in plentiful supply, and the staff were all really pleasant. All in all a great holiday, and a nice island to visit. We would definitely go back there.
great hotel for the price

we have just returned from seven wonderfull days at the Bitzaro Grande hotel, and considering the price that we paid for an all inclusive holiday, we are thrilled with what we got. The hotel is only 5 years old and is in great condition and is kept spotlessly clean by the very hard working staff. The pool area is beutifull with plenty of sun beds available, the food in the restaurant is very good, a wide variety, and plenty of it. The daytime and nighttime entertainment is organised by two young girls, Tania and Tina who were so hard working at trying to keep everyone happy. the entertainment was always held at the pool bar occasionally this could be quite chilly late at night in May, so take a cardigan or somrthing similar to keep the chill away. my only complaint was that the hotels two bars were only manned by one member of staff each, so there was allways a small wait to be served. Due to the close proximity to the airport, aircraft noise is a small problem, aircraft do fly very low over the hotel when landing but after a couple of days you will hardly notice it, it is the perfect hotel for plane spotters. The airport at Zakynthos beggers beleif, i have never witnessed an airport like it, it is certainly an experiance to forget. Dont buy anything at the snack bar at the airport, it is a rip off, 2 cans of coke and a small packet of crisps cost us nearly 12 euros. Dont let any of this put you off, Zakynthos is a lovely island with plenty to see and do, the weather is great, high eightys when we were there in may and in our opion the Bitzaro Grande hotel is probably the best hotel in Kalamaki. have a great holiday
The Bitzaro was Grand(e)!

Just returned from a weeks all inclusive at the Bitzaro Grande. Firstly, we had a great time and the hotel was by far and away the best we have ever stayed in in Greece. It was immaculately well presented, the staff we're friendly and the pool area was again, immaculate. The food must have improved dramtically since some of the past reviewers went, as we found it to be excellent at the hotel. The choices were perhaps a bit limited but what they did, they did very very well. We did eat out on two occasions but thats cos we we're goign slightly stir crazy and is no detriment whatsoever to the hotel. The entertainment was, as people have said, pretty basic. Bingo and the odd quiz at night and half hearted attempts at killer pool, french boules etc during the day. However, this did not detract from our day/nights as were were more than happy with our books for by the pool and our own company on the evenings. The location is on the whole, pretty good. 5-10 mins to the beach and 1-2 mins to local supermarket. The main strip is about a 3-5 minute walk and it probably takes you another 10-15 mintues to get to the far end of the strip. Kalamaki itself is a nice resort, the beach isn't too bad at all and everyone seems friendly. Highlight for us in the resort was Safari Bar (the owners are unbelievably friendly its untrue!). Finally, i would reccommend taking tranquilsers/sedatives for your journey home. Zante airport is abysmal. It is (honestly) no bigger than your average library, has two check in desks and looks as though it should be a warehouse or something. We were delayed for 14 hours on the way back and was divertered to Athens. I've not let the airport affect the rating for the hotel though - which i would reccomend to anyone.

well where do you start, staff ermm most were very helpful but one of the receptionists should be more at home in Faulty Towers the rest were fine the one thing that made the holiday where the friends we met even though they were from doncaster, wigan & the north east & oh aye all the bingo was won by the scottish, thomas kept us all amused, so a big thanks to Tony Carol Bernie & Ant and all the other who sat with Deb & Stu (top pop quiz winner Twice but we woz robbed) hope to see you all again but not in this hotel oh yeah food was ermm a aquired taste so i turned veggie that week try the dark sambucca (with baileys known as a Sinbad cocktail)

We stayed at the Bitzaro Grande for two weeks in September. It was a briliant holiday, met so many people, was a great laugh. The hotel is lovely, really nice grounds and the rooms are really nice too. The food isnt the best, but then all inclusive is usually quite basic anyway in Greece, at first i enjoyed it but after a few days it was like school dinners all over again. I thought the entertainment in the day was briliant, always keeping guests involved and active. Thomas and Helen are so nice, they made our holiday!! The only downfall is that I think the hotel could do with another bar as the pool bar in the day is the same bar in the night and then there is only one small bar inside, and for the size of the hotel there should be an inside entertainments room considering most of the guests are all inclusive, also could do with more staff in the pool bar, day and night. Kalamaki is a really nice resort, the beach isnt that nice though. I would come back to the Bitzaro Grande but a week would be enough.
loved the bitzaro grande

Just returned from ones weeks all inclusive stay. The rooms are very comfortable and very clean. The main reception and pool area also immaculate. The entertainment is basic but very good.Quiz, bingo etc. Found the food superb, plenty of choices, even for the vegetarians in our party. The earth quake and frequent tremors did scare us but the staff were very reassuring. It didn,t spoil the holiday. Will definately return next year for half term.
A fantastic hotel - on balance
from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I have just returned from two weeks B&B at the Bitzaro Grande. It is interesting to see such wide ranging views from other holiday makers. This hotel is fantastic! I would argue with the four-star rating and perhaps give it a 3.75. The rooms are rather basic (I would agree that tea and coffee making facilities would be welcome) but they are very large. The public areas (reception, bar, pools, restaurant, grounds etc) are definitely four-star. There is no doubting that this hotel is kept immaculately clean by the hard working maids and all of the staff are cheerful and obliging and welcome you into their ‘family’. I never saw a ‘manager’ during the two weeks but the staff worked relentlessly to ensure everyone enjoyed themselves. As for the entertainment, yes it was repetitive and all provided by one guy (Thomas) but he was extremely funny and all of the activities were in great demand. He managed to strike a good balance with the activities because they were suitable for all ages. There are indeed plenty of sunbeds and the pool area was very relaxing the first week (until the influx of kids at half term!). The breakfasts are very good, but I can’t comment beyond that as we ate elsewhere the rest of the time. I have heard people comment about the food not being hot, but I should point out that this is a cultural thing – the Greeks eat their food lukewarm. The hotel is very well situated in easy walking distance from the town and beach (and the sea was very warm). My only real warning is that Zakynthos experiences a lot of earth tremors and in the middle of our holiday we experienced a real earthquake (6.1+ on the Richter scale) and twentyish aftershocks and tremors. These did spoil our relaxation a bit and we did feel cheated that no-one had mentioned this before we went! We wouldn’t go back but only because we have seen all of Zakynthos now and like to explore new places. Otherwise I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel as it was one of the best I’ve ever stayed in.
Really Disappointed

Despite being advertised as air conditioned during July and August this was only available in the afternoons and at night meaning the rooms were uninhabitable during the evenings unless you're comfortable with 40 deg C plus heat. The food was repetitive, the entertainment almost moronic. The pool surface was covered in airbeds and screaming kids most days, sunbeds were only obtainable if you got up early or put a towel out the night before. Luckily we stayed on a B & B basis so were able to get away most days, would of hated to be all inclusive and tied to this hotel, we spent as much time away from the hotel as we could and hated returning there mainly due to the heat in the rooms when we got back from a day out. On a high note the staff were friendly, the hotel was clean, modern and well positioned. We booked this hotel for my husbands 50th birthday having read good reviews of it, we were extremely disappointed.

Im 42, single and holiday alone, and I found the Bitzaro grande covered all my needs. I have just returned after 4 wonderful days at the hotel. I had private transfers from the airport, which were waiting for me upon arrival and whizzed me to the hotel. I was there, checked... more
