Jul 2007, Miss K  Laycock

There were 3 of us staying at Frixos Hotel. When we arrived there we had no welcome and only 2 off us girls were on the list, so we had to wait out all night for them to sort a room out for us.
We didn’t get a room until 8am after arriving at about 1am. The whole time being there I had breakfast once as it was not very nice, the bacon and sausages didn’t look cooked and the bread was hard.
There was no fridge in the rooms so we constantly had to keep buying cold water. However the pool was very nice and relaxing through out the day and the food that was served was lovely.
It was about a 5-10 min walk to the beginning of the strip and a 20-25 min walk to the beach. The reps didn’t really spend time around the hotel; I probably saw them about 3 times whilst being on my holiday for 2 weeks.
People down the rooms from us saw cockroaches and a mouse in there room, with a nest of ants.
I would not recommend this hotel to any one. I would defiantly recommended the kastro apartments which I stayed in 2006.

11 of us Cardiff girls stayed here...

Jul 2007, Other The 11 Cardiff Chicks

11 of us Cardiff girls stayed here for 2 weeks and had an awesome time. Wish I was back over there. We stayed in the apartments which were better than the hotel. Try and get room 3 got a nice big balcony.
The pool was really nice and staff were friendly.
Nightlife in Malia is the best, there are so many different clubs for different tastes, our favourites were corkers, malibu, banana, cheeky 1/2, factory an club UK.
The PR's are really annoying, the first couple of nights we were kind of scared but after that you get used to how to deal with them. When they offer you free shots make sure they are not just juice coz they do try and give you that, we got sambucka most of the time.
The atmosphere is really friendly out there too, its so much more laid back. We met some amazing people!!
Watch out for the little kids that try and sell you stuff cos they are really good at pick pocketing, just keep away from them.
Frixos is like a 5 min walk from the top of the strip, it’s in the perfect place. Loads food places around, was kfc or McDonalds most nights. We took out about 20-30 euros a night and come home with change, we had so many free drinks, shots and fishbowls, but the boys were taking out much more than us so girls.
The beach is only 10 minutes away there are loads of different beaches with people trying to get you to sit on their part of the beach; you would think you would get away from all that in the day but you don’t.
Sun beds are cheap and water sports are good to, we went on the jet skis for 20 euros for 1/2 hour.
It’s so hot over there so I would advise u to drink lots of water in the days, In between you alcohol coz you will feel ill.
Everything is pretty cheap out there, the frixos is a wicked place to stay and I would definitely go to malia again. Hope you have a wicked time.

Just got back to Plymouth after...

Jul 2007, Miss D Little

Just got back to Plymouth after spending an amazing week at the Frixos!
Sam, Georgio, and Rachael behind the bar are such a laugh, and if you're nice, give you free shots just before you hit the strip!
Stayed in a 2 bed room, ideally spaced, and had everything I needed. The hotel in general was great, great pool and food, the Heat wave reps were incredible, and it's right at the top of the Malia Mile, so it's really not that far from all the pubs and clubs of Malia.
And as long as you're nice to Demitri the security guard, you should have no problems with the Frixos; he won't forget the Plymouth girls for a long time!!
Me and my friends have definitely decided to go back there next year, looking forward already!

Jul 2007, Mr J Laver

Just got back from Malia and it was fantastic! Went for 2 weeks and I don’t think any of the 22 lads who went would have complained about it!!
Apartments itself are fitted with air-con and safe lock up which is what you need in Malia!! It was the hottest it’s been over there for 50 odd years! Unlike England!
Samwell behind the bar in the day is a absolute legend, plays good music and is always up for a laugh...even came out on the lash with us!
The reps are really helpful and dun everything they could to help us...skool disco nite is a must prob the best nite of the 2 weeks!
Would recommend anyone to go Malia because if up for having a mental time then it’s the place to be....I don’t think they will ever forget the BRISTOL boys!

Jun 2007, Miss JM Downton

Have just spent a week at Frixos. We went self catering which was better to do as the B&B wasn't up to much. Self catering had really spacious apartments and a nice working shower and even a shower curtain!
Lovely hotel was very clean and the rooms were cleaned every day, the pillows weren't that great bit like sleeping on cotton wool. The staff were all very friendly, the pool and bar were very clean and there were some nice pool meals.
Only downside to this holiday is that we booked it as a sunstart holiday and when we arrived the hotel was full of twenty year olds who don't know how to be quiet when coming in at night! So if you looking for a quiet holiday like we were this isn't the hotel to go to and definitely not for families with young children.
Malia itself was lovely especially the old Malia which has some lovely restaurants the strip is ok if you want fast food/takeaways. There are plenty of bars and clubs which stay open to all hours of the morning.
Overall we had a super holiday with fantastic weather all week but I don't think we would hurry to go back to Malia.

I have just returned from a week stay...

Jun 2007, Miss  Buckley

I have just returned from a week stay in the Frixos Apartments in Malia, Crete. I would definitely recommend Frixos.
We stayed in the apartments and I would say they looked better and bigger than the rooms. They are very spacious and clean, the kitchen is basic and shower wasn't great but they were the only downsides. Towels, sheets, and bin changed daily.
The pool is in the sunshine all day and is cleaned every night and there’s plenty of space for sunbeds which are in the sun all day.
We were self catering and the food on offer in the day was great, quite a mixture and reasonably priced.
The hotel staff were great, especially George who runs the bar at night, a real laugh and always giving out free shots! A security man is around all night and the hotel owner frequently walks around making sure everything is ok.
We went in May and it was just starting 2 get busy so this time would be better for families, abit later on for groups of holidaymakers. The strip is about 10 minutes down the road, easy to find and impressive. The beach is at the opposite end of the strip, about a 15 minute walk away.
We may be visiting again soon!

May 2007, tulips

I went to Malia with my partner for a week in May, we stayed in the Frixos apartments which were really good.
It is only rated 2 star but I would definitely give it a 3 star rating, very clean, bins were emptied everyday and washroom cleaned, bedding and towels changed twice, staff were all very friendly.
George who did bar at night had such a wicked sense of humour and always offered us free shots throughout the night, Sam who worked during the day had a cheeky smile and very funny and entertained the guests while sitting round pool area.
Our apartments were about 10 mins walk from the lively night life, lots of pubs and nice restaurants. Old Malia town again very close to hand and if you preferred a quieter night was the place to eat out and have a quiet drink.
Beach about 15 min walk, I would not recommend Malia for families with young children between June and end of august.
Nickos who owned hotel and apartments always on hand if you needed anything replacing in your room and dealt with it quickly.
Security man called stalios always around with a cheerful smile.
Would definitely go back here again.

Me and my mate came here the first two weeks in August and had a wicked time!!
Malia is great it is more suited for young holiday makers I would definitely say because the night life is mental, that was exactly the type of hol we wanted.
We stayed in the apartments and they were great the staff were so so friendly, the guy at the bar could be a little annoying though!
All in all we had a fab time and hope to return eventually, we were lucky too our rep lyndsey was great such a laugh!! Thanks for a great holiday frixos

Mar 2007, Miss S Bird

Hey guys.... last year I went to Malia along with 7 other people! We stayed in the hotel frixos and had a wicked time! The staff are SO SO SO SO friendly and the security guard is such a laugh! (he had to let me in my room a couple of time when I lost my keys!) ooppsss!
The pool area is lush and free shots were given out at the night time from the bar man GEORGE! He was great! The centre is about 10 minute walk where the nightlife is MAD! The beach is a further walk down the road past McDonald’s (yes Greece has a maccy D's!!!).
The sun was shining our whole holiday and not only did we stay by the pool and go to the beach we also went on arranged trips with the club reps to water parks!! School uniform nights and bar crawls! Which were proper fun!! I had such a fantastic time that I have booked to go back there this coming July!
Along with a mate my boyfriend and 8 of his mates! Watch out frixos HERE WE COME!!!! x x

I went along to The Frixos Hotel...
9 / 10
Jun 2006, Miss D Bond

I went along to The Frixos Hotel along with my mom and 6 year old son on a bed and breakfast basis. We had a lovely time. Hotel was very clean and cleaners came in every day to empty bins and every 2-3 days to change the towels. The pool area was clean and washed down every night. The hotel held a mixture of families such as ourselves and groups of same sex groups albeit only a few. They were slightly rowdy but there again Malia is geared for that type of thing during the main months. As you left the hotel and turned left and left again and carried on for 5 mins you find yourself on the main strip of Malia’s bars, clubs and restaurants quieter by day and mad by night - certainly an experience. The beach was at the bottom of this road (15 minutes walk). If you wanted a quieter night the provision was there. You could either go up into the mountains to the quieter traditional Greek tavernas or at the bottom of Malia’s main street just before the beach and turned left (towards Stalis) there are a number of traditional Greek tavernas playing traditional Greek music with lovely food but mainly families and couples came here. We came to Crete (Stalis) last year and again to Crete (Malia) this year and had a lovely time and would not hesitate in coming back again. The Frixos Hotel was perfectly situated 5 mins from the rowdy bars and English pubs or 5 mins from the quieter old traditional Malia. We had no problem sleeping at night (apart from the heat although Air Conditioning was available at a cost). If you do go to this hotel ask if room 117 is available - this is the one we stayed in and is the biggest in the hotel. It has a long balcony at the front and at the side with views of the mountains, the pool and the sea.

May 2006, Mr K Redfern

I went on a two week holiday with my girlfriend and stayed here. We had a brilliant time! The staff are very friendly and you felt welcome as soon as you arrive. Everywhere in the accommodation was clean, tidy and well looked after.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis so we where in the hotel part of the accommodation. The room s were quite small and basic but again very clean. Towels and sheets were changed every couple of days. It was approx 15 min walk into the centre of the resort which was nice because we could get a good night sleep but still close to everything we needed.
The beach was approx 20 min walk away which was a bit difficult to find at first because you have to walk down a small dirt track to get to. Along the beach there were lots of bars and restaurants. Overall we had a brilliant time and are looking at going back later in the year!
Would recommend it to families at the beginning of the season and groups and couples at any time.

We spent two week in Malia, Crete,...
7 / 10
Jul 2004, Miss M Aird

We spent two week in Malia, Crete, during the busiest two week in July.
Malia itself was a two with two sides. One side the main beach road was lined with rowdy bars and cheap trashy restaurants. Hoards of young holiday makers in football shirts and baseball caps streak up and down the main strip on quad bikes, mopeds and any other noisy vehicle they could get hold of. The long thin beach is packed full of young lively people and lined with bars playing dance music all day long.
On the other side the old town was a warren of quiet alleyways with little tavernas and restaurants dotted here and there. The old town was so peaceful you wouldn’t know that the rowdy part of town existed. The other side of the beach was populated by families and couples and devoid of noisy music, just right for a quiet day and nursing a hangover.
The accommodation was Spartan and the lack of reasonably priced air conditioning was a real downer. While the staff were quite friendly the other residents were often very rowdy.
The island itself was fabulous. Packed full of ancient historical sites that were actually worth seeing. The various resorts could provide quite and picturesque, lively shopping or sleepy tavernas if that’s what you are after. The allied war cemetery in Souda bay was one of the highlights of out trip. The two water parks were great fun too.
I’d recommend hiring a car, as driving was pretty easy and it works out cheaper than going on trip. Plus, the air conditioning is a real lifesaver.
Costs were reasonable. An evening meal cost us 10 euros at its cheapest and 30 euros at the most.
All in all we had a great time.
