Some people are never happy
9 / 10

How I agree with the last review, lets face it some people are never happy they complain about eveything, the hotel was in a perfect location for the beach and restaurants/beaches, the hotel was spotless and as for not being able to fetch in drinks or food into the hotel, I was never 'searched' or even asked what I had in my bag, all hotels in Turkey have the same rules so if you dont like it dont go to Turkey.

Wonderful

I was a bit disappointed when I read some of the reviews about this hotel after booking my holiday, however I needn't have worried.
The hotel is perfectly situated for access to Belcekiz Beach (approx 2 mins walk) and the Blue Lagoon (approx 10 min walk). It was situated on the main strip where there are numerous fantastic bars, restaurants and shops.
The hotel itself although fairly basic is very clean and all the staff were wonderful and so friendly. We stayed B&B and eventhough there was quite a good selection for the breakfast (continental) this was never varied, however when the cost of a full english breakfast was only 7TL (approx £2.70) you couldn't go wrong !!
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Oludeniz and shed a few tears when I had to leave as it is such a beautiful and friendly place.
The only downside which stopped me giving a rating of 10 was that our bedroom was situated under the pool table which was in the restaurant above This had a tile floor and belive me there where some pretty bad players out there !!!
I would definately recommend Oludeniz and the Marcan Beach Hotel and will definately be returning. If you do holiday here you must visit Buzz Beach Bar (this also has a live webcam on the Oludeniz live site)and the Plaza at Belcekiz Beach restaurant (end of the main strip and turn left) as the food and service is fantastic.

  • Advice: Just kick off your shoes and relax !!

Wonderful Hotel - Fab Holiday!

We stayed at the Marcan Beach Hotel last year and just thought we would add our experience to the mix. We arrived in the early hours to be greeted by the night porter and the night reception guy, both friendly and welcoming. The night porter took our cases and wouldnt let us lift a finger and the night reception guy booked us in. We paid for air con and when we got to our room it wasnt working, this was fixed within 5 minutes, now bearing in mind this was 4am! The room was adequately sized, two single beds that we pushed together easily, dressing table with mirror, good sized bathroom with excellent shower and again a good sized mirror and a hairdryer. We were right next to the pool, fab spot and just outside our door was a banana tree. You also get a fridge which is handy for fruit and drinks. If you undo your room key from the fob and leave the fob inserted into the power slot on the wall then your fridge never goes off if youre out for the day/night. We had a small area to sit in the shade if we wanted with a couple of chairs and a small table.Breakfast is the usual Turkish affair, melon, cheese, meat, bread, honey etc. More than adequate to set you up for the day or you can pay not very much for a cooked breakfast. The pool was immaculately clean, and the pool maintenance guy was only ever about late at night or first thing in the morning, certainly never ever sleazy and never watching you!! There are various inflatables for you to use if you want to and each night theyre all tidied away. Also the sunbeds are hosed down reguarly at about 7pm so theyre all clean for the next day. The bar serves snacks through the day along with the usual drinks and ice creams, all reasonably priced. Music is played and if you want to have your CD played the bar staff will do this for you. Its never loud only background music which is nice. At around 3pm they come round with cakes, wow, these are amazing and we did indulge once!! Gorgeous and a nice touch, having tea and cakes in baking sunshine! There was never a problem having your room cleaned. You can have it cleaned every day if you wish, all you do is leave your key in the basket at reception and it gets done within an hour or two. As the cleaner gets to know you she will return your key, she did to us on several occasions. If we went a day without having it cleaned she would ask us if we wanted it doing! She even had the bed made up to suit our "double bed". Beds are comfy by the way. On our last day our flight wasnt until midnight. We paid £20 to keep our room till 5pm but that still left a few hours with no room. We asked the manager of the hotel (his room is opposite the reception desk) and he invited us into his gorgeous office. We were offered tea/coffee and he said "stay in your room as long as you like" he is a lovely guy. As for not bringing food into the Marcan, yes thats true but if you do it discretely no one knows! We would chat in the pool the next day as to what was brought in via the other guests and everything from 5litre water to kebabs to cakes was smuggled in. All that was required was a large beach bag....so im told! All in all we had an amazing time at the Marcan, if youre going this year you will too, if you treat the Turkish staff right they will look after you as one thing the Turks hate is whingers.

On first impression this hotel looked really lovely clean tidy etc. Rooms very small but how much time do you spend in your room really so no problems really about the room, the cleaners were spot on all bed linning and towels clean. Blanket for bed was very itchy and old. You do need to hand in key and request room clean otherwise it doesnt get done for you. We stayed here on a bed and breakfast basis and we only had the breakfast once as there included breakfast is continental ie ham cheese salad etc not what we english are used to, if you want a full english you pay for it! The resturant at this hotel couldnt be fauled food excellent we ate here every night waiters brilliant and very friendly. VERY CREEPY POOL MAINTANANCE MAN didnt do anything all day except prev around the women very unsettling and my partner was ready to chin him. lots of odd jobs needed doing around the pool he clearly wasnt going to do them. By our 8th day there our pool had a green tinge to it the explanation given was that they had nothing to clean it with as it was still on order. This resulted in 3 friends on holiday having ear infection's and my partner returned home with one to. Myself i now have an eye infection which is from the dirty pool in this hotel. The pool bar staff were absolutely brilliant couldnt fault them at all. overall your holiday is what you make it and we did have a really enjoyable holiday.

"What a disapointment" Never again!

I had never been to Turkey before and so this was my first experience. Family and close friends had booked a holiday which was also for their first time in Turkey there were 18 of us altogether
My partner and I had tried to get a booking at the same hotel as my parents, but their hotel was fully booked. Due to this we went along and booked a week in the Marcan Hotel through Thomas Cook. The holiday was exceptionally cheap and now after one weeks experience we can understand why. We arrived in the early hours after a flight delay to be greeted by very grumpy reception staff that huffed and puffed and made us feel as if everything was too much effort. When arriving at our room we were very disappointed as a couple we had booked a double but were given a twin with no explanation, being very tired after our delay we went straight to sleep.
Once awake we realised the room was very basic and without a fridge to keep fluid or food fresh and cool. The shower didn’t work properly and kept on leaking all over the floor. We later found that we were also unable to take food and drink onto the premises; this had not been explained during booking or on entrance into the hotel, which we found to be extremely odd as we had booked in as bed and breakfast only. Although you were not able to take food and drink onto the premises we assumed water was not included in that as it was an essential. When entering the hotel we were stopped by the manager at reception who was abrupt and stern in asking for our water and then stated "if you want water you buy it at the bar” this was small bottles only, and at a charge of five times more than local suppliers. We had been at the hotel almost four days without having seen a cleaner or maid and were not informed of the policy on having to leave the key at reception. No information from the holiday company, no information in the room or at reception regarding this. It was only from other guests who were having similar problems that we found out about it. The final nail in the coffin as it were for this hotel was on the day of our departure. We were checking the notice boards for our transfer. Although we had booked with Thomas Cook we found our transfer times on the Air tours notice board, the rep and the manager of the Marcan told us this was wrong and were insistent we then were given another time by these people consequently we missed our transfer.
This also happened to another couple.
Because we had missed our transfer that evening the manager then offered us a taxi service and was adamant that it was £80 instead of the £50 stated on the reception wall.
He then insisted on having the money in his hand which he passed over to the taxi man, my partner at that time was panicking as she was telling me that he had kept some of it back in his hand she could see it. I told her there was nothing we could do we didn’t have time to sort it or we would miss our flight. We did, to the tune of another £169 each. We must stipulate though the hotel was very disappointing holidaying in Hisonaru and the surrounding area was exceptional. Even though we were bed and breakfast we ended up eating out all the time it was much nicer and better value, sunset cafe do a good all day breakfast which is large enough to sustain any appetite, great service to and all for five lira. Hisonaru is a beautiful place to take vacation for couples families and singles with lots of interesting places and things to do from the very sporty or for those who just want to relax. the people are very friendly and helpful We will be going again but will endeavour to investigate our accommodation more thoroughly next time.

  • Advice: Hisonaru is great lots to do all hours of the day , definately going again

Not Great

Bad points: Yellow stained toilet seats, showers that either dribble out or pelt out and leak out into the bathroom. Breakfast not good, greasy omelettes, too many wasps which I know is hard to control but so many. Hotel is on a hill with a gravely dusty walk to it, so you always get dusty feet. Sun Loungers so close to each other you felt as though you could breath on the person next to you. You also have to join the masses and put your towels out the night before otherwise they are all taken. Not a place for slightly older people.
Good points: nice bar staff but not enough staff. Friendly housekeepers, nice enough pool and good airconditioning.

  • Advice: Not good for older people

Spoilt by grumpy reception
5 / 10
Jul 2010, loveturkey

The room was ok (where did they get that grotty old shower). Not bothered by turkeys and chickens in area near room loved watching them. Yes that receptionist is definately a grumpy, unhelpful man. The other receptionist is fine, but unfortunately does not speak very good english so cannot be as helpful as he wants/tries to be. The rest of the staff were the helpful friendly people you usually find in Turkey.
The prices of drinks etc were a lot more expensive that in town, and the rate of exchange was a hell of a lot less. Also the charge for keeping on the room for a late flight is nearly double the rate for staying a day. Some of the holidaymakers had paid when booking the holiday for keeping on the room, and the hotel still tried to get more money from them. Also watch out for items charged to card for drinks etc - sometimes they get it wrong.

  • Advice: Handy for town, so long as you can walk well

Good location to town

Jul 2010, Chicken

Just got back from a weeks holiday at the marcan, on arrival the reception staff where grumpy and not very helpful, this continued throughtout the week being very rude and abrupt, was glad to see the back of that grumpy man, other than that the hotel was very basic and noisy due to our room backing onto a very large area where chickens and turkeys all running riot, swimming pool and food where nice but the staff really let the place down as the 5 min walk into town ur met by people who are very helpful and cant do enough for u, i would def go back to this area but due to the miserable faces everyday spoilt the atmosphere

Fantastic holiday with few complaints

Jun 2010, happyholidaymaker

The Marcan Hotel in Hisaronu was fantastic!
Rooms are lovely and basic, all we needed however we did have ants at one point. Some nights were very loud however so it was a struggle to sleep. Music on till 3am in the morning. When we asked for our room to be cleaned it was cleaned perfectly.
Breakfast was a traditional turkish buffet with omelettes every few days which were lovely.
Every one is complaining on here about the prices and the fact you couldnt bring drinks in from outside however we got away with bringing drinks in every day just putting them at the bottom of our bag or just wrapping them up in a top.
The night time meals were lovely, yes quite expensive but for good quality food and at a hotel its definitely worth it.
I would recommend going to the entertainment nights that they put on.
The only big problem we had is the use of the hotel cards.
The hotel cards being used for extra drinks, snacks, and meals because we were not half board.
However, what happened is that one of the staff members went away with our card to swipe it for the money to go through and then we realised when we returned to our room that we had been given the wrong card back and we went and told them and they said our card wasnt working so thats why we got a new one. However, when we looked at our receipts for our bill during the holiday there was about 30 pounds that had been spent that was not our money. We asked to see the receipts they had and someone else that we did not know had signed for them.
They said we would have to pay for these items if we did not find the person living in the hotel. The manager was very rude about the situation and told us it was our fault and we needed to be more careful with our card so that didnt happen. I got very angry at this because we have never lost our card and the only time we gave our card to someone was the waiter to put the bill we had paid on it. The manager continued to claim that it was our fault which I thought was very rude so just be careful when spending in the hotel and keep all your receipts.
Other than this is was still a fantastic hotel. Staff were very friendly and loved the English people! Great atmosphere 90% of the time.

Great Stay

Having read a number of bad reviews my girlfriend and I were apprehensive about staying here. We neednt of worried as it was a fantastic stay overall with the hotel being in a perfect location. My main concerns prior to going was the loud music at night as the hotel also owns a bar which is open to the public. This aspect wasnt great but it was manageable. The latest it went on to was 2am but this was only one night and they often turned the music down at a reasonable hour. However, I am a very light sleeper and easily irratated when it comes to sleeping whilst my girlfriend on the other hand wasnt bothered by the music at all.
The room was in top condition and you could get your room cleaned everyday if you wanted to but we got it cleaned twice in 10 days which was adequate for us.
We stayed on a B & B deal which I would certainly recommend over an all inclusive. The breakfast wasnt brilliant but we soon learnt which food was nice and which wasnt and stuck to what we liked. We didnt eat once at the hotel in the evening, opting to eat out every night at a different restaurant - this is certainly the best way to do it as you are not tied down to the same meals every evening plus we had heard the evening meals werent much better than the breakfast.
The staff were all friendly, some more than others but surely thats what you have to expect in any hotel. We didnt pay out for the air-con which I would of liked but we got used to the heat and it wasnt that bad in the end.
The holiday was fantastic, the hotel was very good for what we paid and we were shocked when we saw our room as it was that nice. I would recommend this hotel to other couples and groups although maybe not to young families who may require early nights. I would really love to go back to Olu Deniz but would probably opt for a different hotel purely to experience somewhere new.

Excellent

Jun 2010, Bossy Boots Nanny

We were a family of 15 aged from 9 to 76 staying at The Hotel Marcan which was brilliant - the rooms were very well kept, the pool lovely, food excellent and not your usual continental breakfast – omelettes’ and you could purchase a Lorry Drivers Breakfast for 7 lire (£3 ish).Great watching the Pizza's being made for lunch. Marmout the Chef was lovely and alway ready to chatter about his excellent food. All the staff were excellent and could not do enough for us. A special mention of Dem (pronouced GEM) who is lovely. The only drawback is that the music goes on until 2.00 in the morning and it is very loud – and the children were unable to sleep. Would be a 10 or even more apart from the music. No complaints from any members of the family and I am the 76.
