Room ok,cleaned every day,no real complaints there. Bar situation appalling. The main bar is a pool bar! If you want a drink and the bar staff are having a laugh and joke amongst themselves you have to wait till they've finished as they just ignore you. They got interested... more

A beautiful location, and hotel, and we would have thoroughly enjoyed the experience if the whole package was there. The rooms are adequate and of good holiday, and the package was roughly in the right price line. Our Thomas Cook rep was helpful, and of assistance. The food... more

We stayed at the Hotel Grand this summer, and it was a great place for a holiday and good facilities. What let it down for us was the service, and the lack of help when we complained. I can understand a hotel that is busy over the summer, but we made so many repeated... more

Thomas cook let us down on this holiday Katie the rep from Thomas Cook was very unhelpful. If it was not for the staff and especially Tanya we might of not had such a brilliant holiday .the staff are very polite friendly and helpful Tanya is an excellent ambassador for the Grand ideal . Big thankyou all

We spent a week at the Grand Ideal Hotel and it certainly is a superb hotel with an elegant decor and great food. What ruined the holiday for us was the on-going rap/rock music blasting out from the pool area & as a result we had to walk 10 mins. to the hotel's part of the... more

"Could do better" should be this hotels slogan. This is a 5 star TURKISH hotel (please bear this in mind). Whilst this hotel is by no means bad it has some fairly fundamental problems that it needs to address. 1. There are not enough tables for guests to eat their meals... more

fantastic
i have just returned from the grand ideal and it was absolutely fantastic the rooms were great the food was great we couldnt faulter anything about this hotel even the location was great so if you are going here for your jollys you will not be disapointed
Hotel Fab- apartments let it down
Got back from this hotel this morning after spending a week here half board. We were in a 1-bedroom apartment and it was awful which was a shame as overall the hotel and staff are great. This is the first overseas holiday I have had and none of my family got ill or had dicky tummies. The reception/check in was very quick and we were assisted with our luggage to our room. Apartment We felt let down booked with Thomsons 4 days before we went and asked for 3* hotels and above - The actual hotel rooms were a lot better and had air conditioning (which we had to pay for 10ytl per day - free with hotel room). The air conditioning unit was in bedroom and did not cool down rest of room. Apartment comprise 2 single sofas in lounge with very basic facilities to cook (you couldnt really self cater here), bedroom had 2 single beds and a toilet off of it (the shower curtains were too small and every time you showered you flooded the bathroom floor. They fail to tell you if you are self catering you only get 1 toilet roll and you have to buy the rest (or take off a chamber maids trolley!!!) and you only get your sheets/room done twice a week. Food We went half board and after reading the reviews were not worried as british people usually moan about this but we had no problems and there was a different choice each night - the fresh bread (different each night) they make is delicious. Ate out as well quite cheap. We also used the hotels pool bar to eat and the pizzas are yummy had no problems what so ever - as previously stated it was nice to go on holiday and eat what i wanted and not be running to toilet every 5 minutes!!! Staff Had a laugh with them kids played water polo every day - we went to a couple of nights and entertainment was as expected and we enjoyed. Only 2 minutes walk from beach so we tended to walk down to the bars there at night usually Geordies (drag queen very funny). Avoid SEMAL bar a few doors down as one of the staff grabbed my daughter and thought it would be funny to throw her in sea ruining her mobile phone she was screaming but they carried on. Hotel areas Very clean and the pool area was cleaned every night Hotel in general very clean We liked this hotel and would return but next time to a room and not an apartment. Excellent value for money - not put off by bombs
Bad Food
The food was not very good with lack of choice, it was either turkey or chicken, with rice and pasta, and then the rice or pasta was served for breakfast in one form or other. Ther was half a table of cakes, they where not fresh and they where the same ones every night, everything with honey. .
it was ok
me and my family 2 adults 3 kids 2 14years old 1 four we arrived at 3.00am disscovered we were 6 rooms apart; there was no way they were going to change this as there was rooms closer avalible when we opened our patio door we were met with huge palm tree as our view. we were bed and breakfast but i dont think we went back to eat after a couple of days as food was certinly not british, people were very nice hotel was very clean ,beds were very basic and rickity would go back to turkey but not this hotel as its not cheap
Ideal place
We travelled to turkey on our honeymoon at the start of october, and stayed at the hotel grand ideal, located in Marmaris. We would recommend the hotel as it was clean, well staffed, and well presented, with the only disappointment being the breakfast (we only ate it once!). the location is close enough to the beach, and to go into Marmaris town centre u can walk (appr 1hr) or get a bus for 40p. the beer was 80p - £1.60, and spirits were more expensve (£2-£3). the food was cheap as we got a 28oz t-bone steak for approx £9 down at a steak house down the beach front. there was a lot of hazzle from the shops / restaurants / pubs, and this would put me off going back, but the people are nice and friendly. Overall the hotel was good, the location good, the food poor, and turkey was pleasing but not overly so!
marmaris nights
Having been in Maramris 2 years ago ,my partner and I were looking forward to a great holiday in resort again. On arrival at the Hotel we were impressed by the clean, and well ordered appearance of the hotel. The check in receptionist (male) was efficient not ; there were only 3 couples booking in at this time and I was last last,I asked for deposit box, and was told "later" . Rooms were basic with bunk bed in room as well as out 2 single beds, remote for air conditioning was in glass box on wall and permanently screwed to wall it did not adjust the conditioning unit which was in fact too good for our needs. Cleaning staff came every day and were exelent. Breakfast ended 9.30am and was disapointing, ordinary domestic toaster took for ever to make toast, items like fruit were not replaced often enough, We skipped breakfast most mornings, Cleaners started 9am. No Lie On. We were B.B and sampled, food lunch and evening once only it was good . Poolside area was clean and well ordered , pool small if hotel fully occupied. Resort itself had changed alot in 2 years particularly diasy bar area, Shopping centre and cleared areas appeared. Prices generally up 20% . MIGROS Supermarket was landmark, small local Turkish "Aspava" Cafe beside it was occupied by friendly staff. Pide, their local Pizza, Omlettes, and Kebabs were exelent. Had meals in Alfresco Restaurant, Ahyan, and El Plato, down the main road towards centrum, which were exelent, meal in chineese next to broadway type show on seafront was disappointing and bad value. staff unusually "not interested" . Hassle from people outside businesses whilst present not near as bad as previously encountered. It being our 6 visit in 4 years to Turkey we would still recommend resort. As were were celebrating a special birthday, there were several jewelery shop visits, We eventually found a jem, called "Di Qualita " 500 metres on town side of TaJ Ma Hal Restaurant, It is a small business and as previously smaller businesses are more personal as your business is most important.
Returned...But all is not well
I am very surprised and saddened to say that this is years stay at the Grand Ideal was no where near as good as last year. The rooms were ok, however the staff were not as friendly. There were a lot of silly little problems with the rooms and the hotel in general and it took ages for them to be sorted out. The food was not catered for the English at all this year. The sun loungers were old and broke on people getting on and off. All in all not as good as last year and we are dissappointed. It is time for us to look for another hotel.
Disappointed
I have read with surprise the previous reviews for this hotel. The rooms were cramped, dark and in need of some renovation. There was no bath, just a very small shower cubicle. The blankets on the bed were rough pieces of cloth, when I asked for a linen/cotton sheet I was told that they are only used to cover the mattress and not for use as blankets. The towels were old and rough. However, the place was clean and the air-conditioning was a great relief. The atmosphere around the pool was great and the entertainer 'Dan' kept the kids and adults happy with his daily activities. This was our second stay in Marmaris - last year we stayed at the hotel next door but one, the Sunrise, which was an absolutely fantastic hotel. Both hotels are rated 4 Star locally, however Thomson only rate the Grand Ideal 3 Star plus. I don't agree that it is a 3 Star plus and think it lucky to even be a 3 Star. Marmaris is still as fantastic as last year though. We found a fantastic restaurant on the beach front called Natalies, where the steaks are the best I have ever tasted. There is often a queue to get in, whereas other restaurants are trying to drag you in off the street. Another fabulous restaurant is the Taj Mahal on the main road. Also there is a great bag shop next door to this restaurant were although the bags are all marked up at ridiculous prices, you can get them for £15.
Not a bad word
Me and my partner stayed at this Hotel back in Sept 2002 now, but seeing that the this hotel only had 1 review I thought I would add my own comment. Hotel is lovely, cannot complain at all. Room nice, pool area great and location fab, only a short walk to the main area with lots of restuarants and bars. As for Marmaris, me and my partner often think about going back, we had an excellent time. Beach is only a 2 min walk from the hotel but is very narrow so is also very crowded. There are a couple of markets which were great, a small water park within walking distance and some great restaurants. If I had to make a complaint it would be this; when you walk along the beachfront at night where all the bars and restaurants are, you are constantly being bugged to go into this bar or that restaurant which does get annoying. A small complaint though for what was a great stay. If you are going to Marmaris lookout for the breakdancers, they're everywhere!
great
the hotel was superb, great food, accomodation very clean and smart, all staff helpful and friendly 2 or 3 min from beach where hotel has own spot of beach with free sunbeds. super pool great for children excellent all round.
