" animation team are brill "

We have just returned from a two week stay here and we are all feeling really down! we arrived and were greeted by one of the animation team Moher he was absolutley fabulous and reamined that way throughout the holiday. I have a 7 month old who adored him as did my ither two girls who are 8 and 4. The whole animation team are great and really made our holiday without them in the hotel it would have been a different story. I feel very sorry for people who havnt experienced tunisia before and end up at thalassa village. because they are closing for refurbishment at the end of october they hadnt cut the grass which led to a hibernation ground for all the mosiquitoes which bit the girls badly especially the fair skin 4yr old! the smells were awful and the abundance of flies all over the food was disgusting and hard to get away from.
The holiday rep was a waste of space didnt have any time for anyone and reallly just couldnt be bothered!
The waiters and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The beach and pools are lovely but I would advise NOT to eat in the beach restaraunt as the food was very rarely cooked properly but they do have chips there! the food didnt really cater well for children but you can get by with plain pasta and potatoes. As said we had a blast met some really fab people which we are missing terribly.
I would have loved to have taken Amir and Moher home with us the girls loved them to pieces. kids clubs were fantastic.

Advice: it is a poor country so have an open mind and have fun

Activities: figruea animal park a must do. the girls hand fed elephants

" it was amazing "

OMG!!! i have jus had the greatest two weeks of my life, this is the 3rd time i have been to this hotel now and i love it but i have to say, whilst i was over there my boyfired i have been with for 18 months (he is tunisian) asked me to marry him AWWWWW.
But anyway back to the holiday, when we arrived it was late at night and as i am now a valued resident of the hotel, they sent us straight over to the resturant to get dinner and as i was way to tired to eat i just didnt bother, but moms being moms decided she wanted to eat and she was impressed.
when we went to pick up our key, we had a choice of room and i am so glad of were we were, it was sicile 32, you wasnt right in the thick of the entertainment but you was close enough so when you have a drunken 22 year old (ME) walking back to the room you dont disturb alot of people, singing and dancing.
as i have read over and over again, but i am going to say it again the entertainment staff are amazing, but any body that has been there i have to tell you the sad mews that are blessed belly dancing medo has gone for tunisia and has been move to turkey :( he will be missed by all, xx The rest of the entertainment staff are amazing expecially wassim the fire eater, bless him he is as mad as a march hare but he has jus made my holiday the best i has ever been.
the thing that i will tell you tho, watch out for the bar staff they are of no threat to you what so ever but depending on if you have a open mind you may find them a threat.
they will ask you daily do you want to go to the disco, now this is totally up to you if you do or you dont, they are all safe and they just want you to see a little bit more of what is around you. But if you speak to the rep before hand he will try and tell you not to go to monastir and sousse on your own at night, this is a load of drival, i walked round monastir on my own at 3am to go to the shop and i didnt feel any danger at all. But as far as getting a drink in the bars you sit down and they are with you taking your order, and then you get my fiance bringing you mint tea which is lovely and so is he X
i would recommend getting out and about in tunisia and if you are getting a taxi they are all yellow and they are all legal and above board. they will tell you what differnat things are but as they only speak arabic there english is very limited so dont feel bad asking them to repeat, they are more than happy to do so.
the maid service is out of this world, every morning me and my mom would get up and make the beds and due to the fact the maid didnt have to do it she would then fan out pjs on the beds to make them look pretty, she is amazing.
i may have touched on this slightly already and if i have i am sorry, but the resturant food is amazing, some days you will have to same things but then other days it is completley differant. The displays they make with the salad and the fruit plants and good so good you dont want eat them, and the pizza man at night is a saving grace, as when the alcohol starts to work its way in to your system and then you feel tipsy its a good way to soak it up, and they are yummy.
but i am going to go before they charge me for over writing lol and please please go i have never loved a holiday so much, but if you are in the hotel around Novemeber 2009 please feel free to look for me ( i am the one that sticks out like a sore finger i am mixed race with blue eyes)and attend the wedding which will be in monastir x thank you all for reading this review and i hope you enjoy your holiday and i look forward to seeing you at the wedding x x x

Advice: GO IT IS THE BEST DESICION YOU WILL MAKE THIS YEAR

Activities: I LOVED THE MORSALEOM IN MONASTIR, it is the presidents burial site and it is amazing worth going x

" Best holiday i've had! "

I have just come back from Tunisia, me and 2 other girls went out there for a week and stayed at thalassa village in Skanes. Reading some of the reviews before we went out there we were quite worried about going but when we got there it was fine, the place was very clean, all the staff were very helpful throughout our stay. Thalassa Village is only a 10 minute drive from Sousse so we went there a few times. There is lots of things to do at Thalassa and as its located on the beach it was a perfect holiday. We are only 18 and we didnt get much hassle at the markets, as long as you say no firmly! There are shows at the bar every night and lots of entertainment provided by the animation team throughtout the day. I highly reccomend visiting this place :)

" Thalassa village "

I had read a few mixed reviews about thalassa village before actually going myself. I am quite aware that one person's choice may not be the choice of another's so decided to bite the bullet and find out for myself.
First of all as previously stated remember to take a pen! you'll need it not only at the airport but when you reach thalassa village itself.
Upon arrival at thalassa village we were greeted by friendly staff and given much needed drinks < multi coloured which amused the kids, we were then given more forms to fill in and our wrist bands. we were then ushered to a first choice table where they were giving out the keys for rooms, give him his due the guy was very busy but quite rude too and told us quite bluntly to come back in an hour. Unphased we went to the main bar and ordered drinks, oh let me point out at this time when i say 'we' i am referring to my 15 yr old son, 12 yr old daughter and of course myself.
After a good hour and half we were taken to our rooms by a porter, first impressions? all was good, quite spacious with plenty of storage and yes clean too. The kid's were in too much of a rush to get to the pool to really take much notice.
The pool? what can i say.. fantastic, so very well maintained and remarkably clean, a welcome retreat from the searing heat. I didn't go in the pool myself that afternoon, just laid on a longer, relaxed, watched the kid's and was supplied by waiters with endless drinks, heaven? hmmm you could say so.
We didnt make dinner that first evening as i spent most of it throwing up and shivering with a massive head ache, damn that sun lol
Back to the room's, don't forget to go get a remote for the air con a.s.a.p, they are of course at a cost of 10 dinar which is refundable upon return, when i went to get one they had run out and we had to wait until the next day.
As stated the room was clean enough but the shower and bath left a lot to be desired, probably not so much unclean but old and ropey a little ewwwww to be frank.
The maid service was excellent, they came in every morning, made the beds and put out fresh towels (so long as you remember to put the used one's in the bath)and tidied round a little.
However, there's always a yucky bit hey lol we did have a few cockroach's, omg they were massive too, after a day or two's observation we found that they were coming out of the air vent in the bath panel, we took the top off of one of the bedside tables (it was removable), shoved it flat against the airvent and then put the bedside cabinet up against that to secure, problem solved, well we never saw another thankgoodness.
The main part of the resort is quite faultless, in a word beautiful and outsandingly clean, the annimation staff are wonderful, always happy to help and love to get you involved, they work really really hard to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, the show's were fantastic and well worth going to watch.
There is a guy there who sits at a table near the main bar who goes by the name jamel, apparently he is no part of the village's staff, first choice warned us about him when we arrived, the reason? well of course first choice ect sell their own excursion's and jamel sell's them at a cheaper rate, don't get me wrong he IS a pest of the highest degree but funny along with it too. At the end of the day it's up to you to decide, but we went along with jamel on two occasions and wasnt at all disappointed.
Firstly we went on a camel ride, what can i say? ouch! it does nothing for your bum lol
The guy that leads the camel's didnt understand any english, but knew a few saying's, lubbly jubbly, cheap as asda price and i got the power << funny as ya like. all by the by when you reach the end of the road, you watch a little thing they do with the camel's, i.e the camel picks up and drinks a bottle of coke, you are then ushered into a shed where you can buy souvanirs, a woman then bakes bread in a kiln made out of what seems like an old tree stump, you are then taken into a little shelter given ice cream and drinks and the chance to taste the bread that the woman baked << eat at your own risk, it did put me off slighlty when i saw her cut the bread with the same knife that she had earlier been sat poking her teeth with.. ewww lol
The second trip was on a pirate ship, fantastic and well worth the visit, again none of the staff spoke a word of english but did their upmost to keep you totally entertained from start to finish, when the ship stopped, you were given the chance to either swim in the sea(life jackets were provided if needed) or go fishing, they then did a small barbeque, which was edible, either that or i was starving lol, on the way back the 'pirates' played prank type games which was really good, all in all a great day.
Back to the village, the beach is beautiful and well maintained, i know a lot of people have gone on about the smell of sewage, tbh it's not so bad, if the sea breeze blow's your way of an evening then yes it's quite evidant, more so i guess in the outside resturant.
Thought i'd save the best bit until last.. the food.. dont get me wrong the service was great, drinks were served within minutes of sitting down, the tables and cutlery were clean, the food however was awful, it all tasted the same, bland and greesy, the cauliflower you had one day, you had the next but in batter 'cauliflower fritter' then the next day in a spicy sauce, wonderful! we saw the cooks once or twice drop the bread rolls on the floor, pick them up and place them in baskets to be served..nice.. fresh pizza's were baked to order << the kid's lived on these for two weeks. Flies were a massive thing, there was just no getting away from them, no one mind's shooing a fly or two away, what do you expect when it's so hot?, but the flies came by the dozen, an endless tourment.. There is a little beach kind of cafe that serves burgers and thing's we did use that quite a lot, by the way the burgers were actually quite nice, however yet again there's a downfall, not only were the flies a pest but the birds were too, they nested in the thatched roof above and didnt mind at all leaving you a present on your table lol.. oooh cats.. they made their presence known too, maybe they were supposed to be their to fend off the birds i really dunno, but they are so skinny and ugly looking if nothing else was to put you off your food then they were sure to..
sooooooo the outcome.. we had a fab time to be fair, it is what you make it at the end of the day, yeah we could all stick our noses in the air, go on about the german's, french ect being favoured (of which they are lol) moan and groan about the food (of which i have)scream and shout about having seen roach's in the rooms', but hey lets put it all into prospective, your going abroad, into a foreign country, of course things arent going to be quite like they are back home...if you cant keep an open mind, expect fish and chip suppers every night and have no intentions of accepting the tunisian culture then why not book a holiday at butlin's im sure you'd be better suited.
Hey ! on a final note i came back with a tan to die for and weighed in half a stone lighter.. i teach gym for a living and had been trying to shift that half a stone for month's, a fortnight in tunisia and i had it all wayyyy heyyy lol, would i go again? definitely !

" Fantastic Thalassa "

Have just read the last comment written down, I am quite shocked to see it. I guess it was just a case of not being able to please everyone all the time. I too have just returned from a fortnight in this hotel. I can speak for my whole family when I say we had an amazing time. On arrival I admit, there was only one porter there, but the signs to the rooms are well marked and quite easy to follow, so there is no need to wait for your cases to be taken on the trolley. We didn't, and found our room without any fuss. Rooms are quite large, but they are basic. Our room was spotless when we arrived and was cleaned daily with towel changes whenever you required them. Only downfall with the room was that there was not alot of storage space. In certain places in the grounds, you do get a sewerage smell, but its not everywhere. Pools were clean with plenty of sun loungers around. Outdoor pools are cold at this time of year, so use the indoor pool which is heated. All staff are really friendly and helpful. Food was fantastic-plenty of choice for even the pickiest eater and was always fresh and hot. Alchohol measures are very large-so be warned. Anis and Sammy from the animation team are great fun. Activities are there if you want them. Evening entertainment is a bit dull at times, but there is a couple of bars to choose from. We had a lovely time and would certainly recommend this hotel to everyone.

" was quite dissapointed. "

I have just got back from a two week holiday staying at the thalassa village in Skanes. I have to say that I was really quite dissapointed. Before we left I read all the reviews and decided that it could just be a small minority who disliked the hotel and that I would keep an open mind. Me and my partner have been to tunisia before (Hammamet in March 08) so thought we knew what to expect. Apon arrival we were allocated our rooms and told to wait outside for the porter to show us to our room. After waiting for about 15mins in the boiling hot sun (with an excited two year old in tow)we decided to find our own way as the porter was nowhere to be seen. The room was big and had most of the basics (hairdryer, shower etc) but was very dirty and we had to scrub the bath (it actually had someone elses hair on the taps) The hotel grounds are very beautiful to look at and do have everything needed, however, as stated in other reviews there really is a terrible smell of sewage all over the hotel. When i 1st read the reviews i thought that people may be overreacting but it really is that bad, worse in fact. I used to walk to breakfast in the morning eyes streaming and gagging from the smell. The food is reasonable (if you can overlook the hundreds of flies landing all over it)and the waiters are really polite and helpful. Our waiter was lovely and couldn't do enough to help. The kids animation team are really good and the mini disco in the evening was brilliant, albeit a bit short. Every member of the animation team are really helpful and work really hard to ensure the kids are happy. The reception staff however are really rude and unhelpful. There is no payphone at this hotel and the only way of phoning anyone is off of recreption phone (at 3dinar per minute, about £1.30) which is ridiculous. I have a realtive at home who is ill and therefore needed to be in contact with England. I was told by my rep Issam (who is lovely and very helpful) that i could get phonecalls in my room. The phone in the room was broken, and when I informed reception they accused me of not being in my room when they put the phonecall through (to which i informed them that i had been in my room all afternoon whilst my son slept) after much insistance they sent an engineer who dicovered that the phone was actualy broken (surprise, surprise) and fixed it only for it to brake the next day. All in all we had an enjoyable holiday because we decided it is what you make it and overlooked all the faults (and smells) I definately will not be returning to thallassa village. I am only thankful that I have been to tunisia before and had a wonderful time, otherwise this experience may well have put me off of tunisia all together ( which by the way is a thoroughly beautiful country) I would seriously re consider if you are thinking of booking this hotel.

" Well before i flew out to Tunisia i... "

Well before i flew out to Tunisia i had read some reviews about this particular hotel and had started to worry that it was awful and that i would be going somewhere i would hate, however my overall experience of this hotel wasnt half as bad as some reviews make out.

The transfer process was very quick and easy, although make sure you take a pen!! when you arrive at Monastir airport you will have to fill in a visitor card, we made the mistake of not having a pen and wandered for ages trying to find one! the staff are rude and apparently dont have any pens to lend you!. Once cards filled in it was all very quick and pain free though.

The hotel was 10 minutes from the airport but beware of the porter when putting your luggae into the coach, he will demand £2 to literally lift it into the coach.

The hotel was very clean, room was a little bungalow and was fantastic, not 5* standard but still comfortable and clean. We never had a problem finding sun loungers, even on days when we didnt get to the pool / beach until 9.20am. The French/Italians/Germans are the majority but i didnt find the service to us brits at the drink bars an issue, the queues were orderly and bar staff, although some miserable, spoke some English and served us no problem (Football is always a good topic as they love it!). Do tip a few of the bar men though, we did get a few regular bar staff look after us more that way.

The main issue for the whole holiday was eating. No matter where you go the service was poor. The main restaurant was buffet style, not to everyones liking but food was varied and always topped up. The food didnt agree with me but they make pizza and pasta, which i generally stuck to. The service by the waiters was VERY poor. Once at the table you would be waiting ages for a drink, then as you are taking the last few mouthfuls of food your plate was rushed away by the waiter as they had to get the stuff ready for the next dinner service. At times we struggled to find a table, one particular night the indoors restaurant was full and a lot of us were made to sit outside in the pouring rain, with rain pretty much dripping into our dinner. I must admit i had started to get totally fed up of going to eat by the end of the holiday, if it wasnt for the fact my other half wanted the food i would have barely eaten becuase i had got so annoyed with it. There is a beach bar which serves cheeseburgers, pizza etc, the food is nice but again service terrible. The fact we went in Ramadam im sure didnt help as they were stuck around food all day and were moody as hell.

The flys are quite bad, they are around constantly. At first you dont mind so much but by the end of the holiday it gets tedious!

Overall i did enjoy the holiday, we went on a few excursions and loved them, especially the Berber village excursion. The hotel was one of the better ones listening to other people from other hotels. Entertainment was ok, animation team did their upmost to keep everyone happy. I would not recommend going if you want nightlife and if you want to be close to the shops. I would have gone to Port El Kantoui if i had the chance again

" Right, lets set something straight... "

Right, lets set something straight first!, There are two hotels called Thalssa one is in Monastair which is the one we stayed at and one which is called Thalassa Village in sousse which is very dirty and smelly and not a very nice place at all. Thalassa Hotel Monsatiar is a great hotel very grand entrance and all very welcoming and friendley.

The Transfer from the airport is 3mins flat perfect if travelling with children at the age of 6 and 2.

Food - Very wide selction even for the fussey eater like myself staff all very helpful and love the children to pieces.

Pools - Great pools all very clean and well looked after,Pools are great give them a tip each day and they make sure that you have sun beds each morning for the duration of visit these guys also double up as the pool lifeguards.

Beech - Again very clean and looked after same applied to the beech boys for sunbeds, there is also a roped off area in the sea which can go up to and the water is still only up to your chest (i am 5,'8) very warm water with lots watersports to take part in aswell if you wanted too and extra cost of course.

Rooms - Always cleaned every day with new towels, floors mopped and swept beds made and even make pretty shapes made from towels or bed clothes and left for you.

I don't know what else to say about the hotel apart from it is bloody great and you will have the best time of life, loved it so much we will be going back

Our rep nikki was really helpful when we had to get the doctor for our son thanks Nikki .The food was great loads to choose from , one of putting thing about the whole experience was the flys they drove you to despare but it cant be helped although the hotel might like to invest in insect killers it would help, we met some lovely people there to. The rooms were air conditioned which was great, the service from the doctor was excellent , the trip on the pirate ship was awesome the kids had plenty to do the whole time. " The rooms were not ready when arrived... "

The rooms were not ready when arrived when ready not clean, cockroach found in room on daughters bed reception staff very unhelpful told would clean room and clean bedding this was not the case when we returned asked for another room were not able to give room. First Choice rep requested that we saw the manager who did not understand the problem about a cockroach and also treated women appalingly, requested to move to another hotel the rep iformed us if we did this it would cost us. We were then moved to the french side of the resort which was very nice and a lot cleaner.

The food was the same every night not nice and cold no choice just repeated this was the same in the A carte restaurants, flies were a problem as well.

Bar staff very helpful and nice. French and German guests were treated alot better, kids club didn't have one english rep in it and were very basic very un usual for First Choice.

First Choice rep all he was interested in was selling his trips, was not interested in helping guests when they had a problem.

In a nut shell if you have a hoilday booked here my best advice is to contact First Choice and change it I have always been a very happy First Choice Customer until now and believed and agreed with what was said in the brochures but i do not about Thassla Village Skanes.

" myself and my partner went to... "

myself and my partner went to Thalassa Village 8/6/08 till 22/6/08. We thought it was fantastic value for money and we loved the bunglows that we had rather than an apartment! Great!
The location was great - only 10minutes transfer from the airport, the food was great I partically enjoyed the peanuts and olives which you could have by the bar and the freshly made pancakes and doughnuts!!
Flies were an issue yes, but what do you expect when your in a hot country? The only issues for us were that the french and german pushed in and got treated like royalty and the english were sidelined however we were informed the hotel has never really catered for the english until recently.
The reps were also unhelpful, we had some items stolen from the beach and they just shrugged their shoulders and offered no help whatsoever, also becareful on the trips we asked if they involved going to any factories and the First Choice reps said no however almost all of them did - the camel caravan, el djem, and the half day welcome tour. We did pay for the Nabeul market trip but the rep failed to tell us that it had been cancelled!
If you want a market, then walk down the beach and directly opposite a ship bar in the sea their is a hotel called the Sahara hotel, they have fake bags, sunglasses, watches, and also little gifts their and everyone is nice. (open everyday) Get a spin ring from the jewellers if you can!He makes them for you!!

So all in all a fabulous holiday just the reps that let it down.

" Previous comments seem to have been... "

Previous comments seem to have been left about the Thalassa Village - this hotel is a different one - opposite the airport in Monastir and has recently been refurbished to an amazingly high standard. There is nothing I can say to fault this absolutely wonderful hotel.. the staff are polite and courteous ( and one of them is GORGEOUS!!) You do not get hassled or bombarded with noise and animation teams etc - it is a five star hotel and you are there to relax. There is limited offer of water gym once a day ... the beach is lovely, food amazing, service fabulous..... I LOVE IT and will be going back for a 7th visit ASAP !!

" spent 2weeks at the end of june just... "

spent 2weeks at the end of june just returned well what can i say. on arrival at the airport you have to fill out forms .which u carnt get through customs without.
on coming out of the airport be on your guard as porters just take your baggage before you have time to realise whats happened then want english money of you.
on arrival at thalassa village you have more forms that you have to fill in.and all that is before you have even started your holiday.
the hotel then gives you your key but doesnt even tell u how to get to your room.
we had elderley grandparents with us and one was in a wheel chair and it was a good job as the walk from reception to the room was a good 10 mins.
the rooms were quite basic you have to pay 10 dinars deposit for tv. air con, and most things.which u get back at the end of your holiday.
the food in the restaurant was not very good.and the amout of flies landing on the food put you of eating anyway.
the waiters by the main bar were very freindly, but if they got caught talking to the english they had to work extra hours without pay.
if the waiters were tiped at the start of the holiday they couldnt do enough for you an dwhen they only get paid 150 dinars mth it means a lot to them.
if getting a taxi make sure you sort a price before getting in as they will charge u more.
but if one of there taxis arrived in england you wouldnt even get in it.
the beach is really clean and the staff are very freindly and dont let people reserve sun beds .no matter what country your from.
the best food was from the bar by the beach especially for the kids.
i wouldnt go back to this resort again as they treated the germans and french like royalty.
if you ask the reps for anything your classed as a moaner.my husband had a tshirt taken of the balcony and an i pod and food was taken out of the room.
dont let this put you of everbody isnt the same. but this for us wasnt the right holiday.

" Just got back from a week in Skanes.... "

Just got back from a week in Skanes.
Hotel was lovely. The reps were all great, the barmen were fantastic and friendly.
Food was nice, alot of it uncovered however, and there are alot of flies. However, myself and my friend did not get sick once from the food or drinks.

I had my iPod stolen by the room cleaner, who would have had to have gone through my underwear draw. We had a safe, but it is tiny and my iPod had finally broken after 5 years and I had left it in my drawer. Man at the reception very unhelpful. He didnt belive me it was stolen as the headphones were left, we asked for the police; which the hotel did not like. In the end, we asked just for a manager or assistant maneger. The cashier made a phone call and imformed us that they were both unavaliable. We said this was unacceptable. The cashier laughed and said "whatever!". Myself and my friend went to go see a rep to complain and she came back to reception with us, where the manager and assistant manager were....the cashier has lied to us.

The assistant manager told me he had searched all the cleaners rooms and had found nothing....weather he actually did this I'm not sure of.

The first choice rep started proceedings for a police report for me to claim on my travel insurence for my stolen property. However, I have returned home without it as the manager refussed to sign it.

The cleaners also stole our cigerettes (packets, not just a few) and our food that was in our room!

We asked to not have the cleaners, but they kept cleaning our room anyway.

Apart from that, it was a great holiday; just don't leave cigerettes or expensive property on show and be prepared for unhelpful managers.

The beach bar did really good burgers, but myself and my friend found the waiters and barmen quite pervy. In bar octopus (the main bar), all the barmen are wonderful and not pervy at all.

Go quad biking if you get the chance!!! It's cheap, but haggle with the price. We went twice. We went through the desert and saw groups of wild camels. It was amazing!

Don't go camel riding- apparently it was awful and a waste of time and money and the man selling this trip was very rude to people who complained!

Be aware that the French tourists get treated like f*ing royalty at the hotel; amazing welcome meetings ands drinks and freebies, longer meal times and meal times separate to ours! They thought they ruled the hotel....and so did the staff.

Overall, we had a great relaxing time spending the week next to the largest pool, which is beautiful. Plenty of families there with kids' clubs and activities for them all day.

" we have just returned from a really... "

we have just returned from a really great holiday. we read several reviews before we went and were starting to get worried about what we had booked. the place was lovely. the staff worked really hard and it was very clean. there was a good choice of food (unless you are really fussy like my kids who lived on cheese and bread, but made up for it with the freshly cooked doughnuts, ice cream and cakes). all i can say is we had a great holiday there and would definately go again.
