More Traveller Reviews of Sol Club Selima Hotel
second visit { WILL NOT BE LAST}
from shandy23
We stayed in the Selima 4years ago, and without doubt going back again was not a mistake just the opposite. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they smiled all the time ,and made us feel very special, and yes i know thats how they treated everyone. The service in the restaurant was excellent(mind you that could have had something to do with the bottle of red winewe had every evening with our meal). By the end of our holiday all the staff including the hotel photographer were on speaking terms withus. In our oppinion this hotel is without doubt underated it may not be the Ritz but you will go a long way to beat a more friendly bunch of people, Icould go on but i would never stop. ROLL ON NEXT YEAR
Great Place for a family beach holiday!
from cwtch4967
An above average 3 star hotel in a great location right on the beach. Very relaxed friendly atmosphere with the majority of guests from Germany, France, Russia - Brits are in the minority! Rooms were not luxurious but comfortable and very clean. Very good standard of food, (better than many 4 star hotels) catered to european tastes - if you want traditional British fare this isn't the place to go!!! Entertainment was good fun and the kids loved the mini disco every night. There was a broad mix of ages and a great atmosphere - we saw no drunked yobbishness at all. A lovely place for a family beach holiday - I would happily return!!!!
Really good hotel!
from allyCornwall
We booked this holiday as a last minute cheap package and were very pleasantly suprised, the hotel was well above what we expected for the price and for a 3* hotel. The staff were very friendly, but be aware nothing they do is for free they are always looking for a tip, but once you realise this you are fine. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. The maid comes in everyday and if you tip her she leaves beautiful flowers on the bed. The food was lovely and fresh but a little repetitive, but what can you expect when they are catering for that many number of people. The gardens were beautiful and very well maintained. The hotel is right on the beach which is good and the sea clear. The all inclusive was brilliant there are no restrictions on the number of drinks allowed or the food. This hotel was brilliant and we had a great time, the only critism would be that the hotel is predominantly full of Germans, who as we know can be rude, but hey thats their nature. The entertainment was therefore geared for germans as were the TV channels available, but you don't come on holiday to watch TV so all was good!! Dont believe the bad reviews some people will complain about anything!!
Great Holiday at the Selima Club
from AlloBanana
Cleanliness is the main thing that I look for in any resort, & the Selima Club was Spotless!! It tells you much about a hotel. Teams of cleaners were always scurrying around ensuring their high standards were always maintained. All facilities were superb; plenty of bars / restaurants gave loads of variety. The staff were so helpful and kind wihout that over-smarmy fake friendliness that you so often get at some resorts when they are all grovelling for tips. The food was amazing, so much choice and variety. Not just your typical chicken and chips & stodge that sometimes AI hotels try to fill you up on (although it was available if you wanted it!). They catered for all at every meal, even having special kids only items too. There was loads of space in the restaurants and you had a lovely choice of where you wanted to sit & eat, on a balcony or terrace, in the restaurant, in a conservatory, in the sun, in the shade etc The opening ours of the bars and restaurants were great too, you could get something to drink or eat continuously from 6 in the morning til midnight on the AI basis, or til 3 in the morning if you paid in the nightclub which was in the main complex yet away from the rooms so you werent disturbed. The hotel and the resort had a very "safe" feeling to it which was very comforting as the hotel covered quite a large area as the accomodations were quite spread out and not at all clustered together. The beach was perfect soft sand and the club had a lifeguard on duty all day. There were loads of free watersports as well as the payable motorised ones. Sun loungers and parasols were free and there were loads of them. The pools were spotless & were surrounded by loungers and parasols. You also had the option to pay 2 dinar a day for a padded lounger mattress too (less than £1). Loads to get involved with the kids club or animation team if you wanted to - you didnt get dragged up against your will, which was nice. There were several shops at the hotel, but also less than 5 minutes up the drive were other supermarkets and shops that had more variety and slightly cheaper. Port el Kantaoui was just a 5 minute taxi ride or 20 minute walk by road or along the beach and was absolutely stunning, you could even find shops which you could wander around at your leisure without being hounded by shop owners - a novelty for North Africa. We went with Just Sunshine who were great & their rep Tony was really helpful. We didnt do the arranged excursions but Tony helped us arrange our own itinary & spent several ocassions racing Arab Stallions at 6 in the morning along the empty beach and through the Olive Groves that surrounded the area - Fantastic! If you want a "Benidorm" home from home England in the sun holiday, this probably wouldnt be for you as the hotel and area had very few English tourists, more German, French, Polish, Russian & Finnish. But if you want a really easy going relaxing holiday where you can eat/drink as much or little as you want, experiencing some new cuisine, (desserts were out of this world, the pastry chef was a genious!) in a lovely hotel on a beautiful beach, you'll love it! Will be going back again but this time taking the family & children too.
good one... if you're in africa
from TravelAdvisorNo.1
i've stayed in this hotel with a group of students, so my overall experience was rather good. but this is a review of the hotel, so here goes... tunisian hotels are all HUGE, surrounded by trees, fences, walls... so noone could get inside. that was quite a disturbing feeling. our room was situated in a building with two floors, and each floor had 8 bedrooms. there are 58 these buildings. we were at the very end of the road, at about 300 meters from the reception...... quite a walk every day to get breakfast. and when it rains, you get all soaked up walking / running from one building to another.... our bedroom had 4 beds, squeezed one top of each other. terrace was rather ok, but had a view on some dirty land on the right and the other buildings all around. bathroom was ... well, pretty ok, but the bathtub was OLD and looked dirty. water was "strange", had to wait 5 minutes to get hot, and after washing up, had a feeling i was still dirty after rubbing myself with towels they provided. the first day there was one toilet paper in the batroom for 4 of us, the first day we ran out of - the maids didn't leave us a new one in the morning. so i went to the reception to ask for one, and the guy gave me THEIR toilet paper from the reception WC(?!) and told me someone would bring us another one in a few minutes. day went by, maids cleaned the room properly (after leaving them 5 dinars) but - no toilet paper again... so i went to the reception AGAIN, the lady kindly told me the room service would bring us the paper immediately - but... :) So we took care of it and "stole" three toilet papers from the maid's cabin. what to say... not very happy about the place, but after staying in numerous hotels across europe, couldn't help the feeling that the africa ones are not as quite as good as these are... p.s. toilets are dirty all across tunisia, even in 5 star hotels...
Beautiful Hotel
from kristelsmith
Absolutely beautiful hotel, beach, food, such value for money as the holiday was really cheap. The hotel rooms were clean and spacious with balconies overlooking the gardens. Taxis to the marina are reasonable and you must visit there its beautiful
no english their
from pyiababe
the tunisians in the hotel were fantastic. but they dont cater for english at all. entertainment in french and german . felt very isolated. the french and germans were very rude to us . food was not for the english but did try, and suffered badly. the waiters and hotel staff could not have been kinder. but would never go there again due to the rudeness of the french and germans, i was shocked that they never say please thank you or sorry. but i loved the local people their.
cool hotel
from phibi
The hotel is a cool holiday village, the rooms are confortabel and clean, the beach is directly in front of the hotel and it has all kinds of comforts. the restaurant is great, the only bad thing is the animation at night, the guys there always do the same shows and they try to speak four languages, all of them very bad... apart this the hotel is perfect for all kind of tourists.... there are 2 cool swimming pools. unfortunaltely me and my boyfriend needed medical assistance. the doctor arrived fast and the personal at the reception was so kind to go to buy the medicines for us... i indeed advice the hotel!
Colditz"""(---)
from happylady47
I am still in distress after getting back from this complete and utter dump. I thought I had been dropped off at Colditz and thats being nice!! We arrived at 10.45pm. everybody else getting off the bus at other hotels leaving me and my partner only ones on the bus !!, we thought god whats going on here is somebody trying to tell us something!. when I read the reports on this Holiday 2 days before we were due to go( I had booked it only two days before.) I Spent 4 hours scanning internet that night and could only find poor reports and same 4 rubbish pictures and thats on over 50 sites even German ones!!, I went back to travel agent next day and said I want to change my booking, I was then told I can only change to a holiday on the same day, that would have meant I would have to pay another £265.00 to go to Gran Canaria, as this was a surprise birthday present for my partner I couldnt afford to change it I was then told by the travel agent to go and give it a go!!!!! dont believe everything you read !! .Even though she couldnt find any pictures of this dump herself not in any brochure in shop (wonder why). It was her who reccommended it to me because it was booked only last week as a late surprise for partner she just got it up on computer and said try this one!!.and it wasnt a cheap late deal either!. When we went into reception if thats what you could call it!! we were given a key to what we can only describe as the cell in Porridge!! brown army blankets on the beds which were almost on the floor paint peeling off walls all over the floor, bathroom window nailed shut with dirty rusty nail with piece of rag over it, the shower (laugh but not funny) was a dirty piece of plastic stuck behind the grubby taps in a filthy bath, when I looked at shower head further it disinteregrated in my hand!, toilet was filthy, looked like nobody had been in there for months and smelt like it. I said to my partner who could see I was very unhappy dont unpack we are not staying here, we were tired and thirsty no welcome pack or bottled water so we ventured outside on what we can only describe as a mase, we managed to find what looked like something out of the OK Coral two grubby looking men sat watching TV nobody else about which I found very strange! it was like the place was closed down (should be). my partner said could we have a drink please by this time it was 11.40 we were told very abruptly we are closed andthey carried on watching tv , my partner then explained we have just arrived!!. they mumbled something in Tunisia laughed then gave us two white plastic comes with some red wine in, all this time I was looking round thinking this is hell . I am dreaming and will wake up from this nightmare, we went back to the rabbit hutch and slept in our clothes all night. When I awoke I went straight to reception to see the Manager and asked him what time does the Rep arrive because there was no information available. he shooed me away I then found an information book on a dirty shelve and it said she would be there at 11.00am, I was counting the minutes as soon as I saw her I burst out crying, she was so lovely and helpful I explained to her everything and said show me your room, what she saw she said was disgusting right lets get you out of here and fast, she telephoned her manager who said I will ring you back in 10 mins, which he did, by this time I was distraught, when she answered the phone her eyes lit up and she said I can get you both in the Abou Sofiane which is beautiful still all inclusive but you will have to pay me 265 dinas (£110.00) I said please please do it. She said go and pack your case, I said I havent even unpacked!, she said go and get your case come back to reception book a taxi and ask to go to Abou sofiane, I was so happy!!. But the worst was to come. when my partner came outside he said they are not letting us go!!!! I said what do you mean, he said we will have to pay them a cancellation fee!! another 265 dinas!!! I said over my dead body I have just paid to get us out of this hellhole, so we tried to walk to the front gates and were chased by the manager and staff!! they were shouting security security, honestly it was like something out of a film, they said you try to leave I will call police!! I said you call who you like mate we are so out of here, I phoned the uk office of My Travel who said leave it with us I will ring you back, (thankgod for mobile phones) what felt like eternity she rang me back and said right you can go now just walk straight out, by this time the other guests who were in shock at the way we were being treated were saying they cant treat people like this. We were just so grateful to get out of there , we kept looking at each other in the taxi and saying are we in a nightmare or is it now over, The hotel we were moved to was like Paradise, I was crying my eyes out by this time and the Manger said you come from the Sol Club Selima , I muttered yes I was so upset , he said give this lady a beautiful room, I was now in paradise .When we arrived at the airport on way home we met Emma our rep and she said they barred her from going into hotel again!! which she said was doing her a big favour anyway! and I now believe they are in a lot of trouble with the way they treated us. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. We were lucky to get out, you might not be.
Second time to this hotel
from seventh-time-lucky
This was the second year on the trot we came to this hotel (my self ,my wife and two teenage daughters ).I have holidayed in Tunisia at least six times now and this hotel is extremely good value for money. Its in a good location right on the beach, has a fairly big pool , and tipping the pool attendant got your sunbeds reserved for you for the next day. The food does get a bit repetative but there was always a good selection, and even my fussy daughter found something she liked. The rooms we had (4 bed ) were in small blocks of 8 with air conditioning and although basic quite adequate. The only problem we had was the hot water kept running out early evening when we got back from the pool/beach so it took about an hour for us all to get ready for dinner. (it happened both years, but we still came back so it couldn't have been too bad ). It isn't a 5 star hotel and your not paying 5 star prices so don't expect 5 star treatment. Most staff speak good English and were polite. The evening entertainment was so naff it was sometimes funny, but its no different than 90% of the summer holiday entertainment I have had to put up with, and after quite a few beers I didn't care.
we had a very good time at club selima, plenti of activities if you wanted, or just relax. free tenis courts, crazy folf, paddling boats, wind surfing, night club everynight, beach party twice a week. entertainment team very friendly they tried every night to put a... more
