Family of four for two weeks.
Overall the holiday was great.
Ferrera Blanca apartments are very basic, but were clean, and maids visited us nearly every day to make up the beds and change the towels. Didn't eat in the restaurant as I had received mixed reviews, but did have some snacks by the pool - these were very basic. We had plenty of ice creams, slush, beers and cokes - they were fine!
All the staff were really nice, from reception, maids, bar and entertainment team (I have excluded the shop lady!) The entertainment team worked really hard morning, noon and night (one of the Italian entertainers needed the microphone surgically removing from his mouth at one point!)
The entertainment around the main pool during the day is a little annoying, as they really push you to take part. You have a choice, give in and join in, which usually results in you having a laugh, or visit one of the other pools - which are quieter - but too deep for new swimmers.
Volleyball, Football, Shooting or Archery for the adults is excellent - nothing really for teenagers below 16yrs.
Evening shows were quite good, the in house shows weren't great, the professional ones were surprising good.
The best bit of the resort was how friendly everyone was. Met loads of people by the pool and the children mixed really well in the safe environment.
Eating Out
No shortage of restaurants. From the front door all the way up to the gorgeous Marina (30 minute walk - double that with kids). We didn't really have a bad meal in the two weeks, as long as you kept things simple.
The resort of Cala Ferrera is OK quite a few English bars/restaurants by the apartments which is not our cup-of-tea, and Cala D'or was really nice. Cala Ferrera is a little less sophisticated than Cala D'or. The walk from the apartments to Cala D'or centre is through streets full of restaurants and bars.
Beaches
All the beaches were beautiful but did get busy.
Prices
This wasn't a cheap holiday, and we had to visit the bank twice whilst away, but we certainly didn't feel ripped off.
Closing thought
The kiddies cried their eyes out when we were leaving so that's a good indicator of a great two weeks.
Would we go back - probably would yes!
Had a very pleasant weeks...

Had a very pleasant weeks holiday in Cala Ferrera There were 11 of us in 3 apartments. We had asked for apartments next to each other and we got this which was a bit of a surprise. (Didn't think we would).
The apartment blocks were lovely and quiet, however our balcony didn't get any sun owing to the fact that we were on the ground floor. There was a big problem with ants in our bathroom, it was like someone was watching us all the time, and we had lots of millipede type insects in the lounge room. Woodlouse was another creepy crawly to keep making it's way into the rooms somehow too. The swimming pools were all clean and there were enough sun beds to go round although you don't get mats to go on the sun beds so they are a little uncomfortable.
The pools are rather deep though so children who can swim but who aren't very confident might want armbands. We bought some from the local shop for 2€.
The maids were very polite as were all the reception staff. We managed to lock ourselves out of our bathroom so we went to reception and they got someone to sort it out for us. Don't know how quickly they did it though as we were going out on a trip for the day. However it was all sorted by the time we got back. The local supermarkets are all reasonable prices but I found the supermarket above reception to be a bit pricy. If you go out of the reception front doors on the left on the other side of the road is a reasonably priced supermarket. We bought most of our food from there.
If you want to use the internet the reception has 2 computers although they are rather pricy compared to the arcade on the main street just 5mins away. In the arcades are plenty of computers 20mins for just 1€.
There are lots of restaurants our favourite being a British one called the Duke of Devonshire just 5 mins walk from the apartments. Well worth a visit to see Leo and the gang. Very, very friendly. It was my sons 8th birthday while we were away and the Duke of Devonshire are 1 of the few restaurants who run a birthday cake service. 10€ for a gorgeous chocolate gateaux cake complete with my sons name iced on it. The food here was also excellent. Check out the specials. Very reasonable prices and lots of food on the plate. There were many more restaurants both in Cala Ferrera (if you don't feel like walking far) and 15mins away in Cala D'Or.
We did a trip to Marineland. It was a bit disappointing. A long journey to Palma (approx 1hr) Only got 3 hours there although it was small so there was enough time to see everything. The Sea lion and the Dolphin shows are worth it though. We found it cheaper to book trips through a local agent rather than the tour reps or the reception.
All in all a good holiday. Great weather, adequate accommodation (after all was only 2**), friendly people. I would definitely go back to Cala Ferrera/Cala D'Or again but would probably stay in a different hotel or self catering apartment.
We had a super holiday. This was...

We had a super holiday. This was the first time my 78 year old mother had flown and right from the start the air stewardesses made her feel special, announcing over the tannoy that this was her first flight at 78. She was well chuffed. It was a real family holiday. Me, my sister, two brothers and sister in law all went too.
This was the first time we had all been on holiday together. The apartment slept 6 (me and my sister had been to these apartments before so knew they would be ok). There was a double room with the most amazing view straight out over the bay. A twin room and then the settees turned into two more beds at night.
There was adequate cooking facilities and in fact we only ate out once(on the last night), the rest of the time we cooked for ourselves.
Cala dor is a really pretty bay and it only took about 5 minutes walk from our apartments to get to the beach. It was about 10 to 15 minutes walk to get to the shops and the huge array of eating places.
Rosa is the lady who is in the reception at the apartments and she is really friendly and remembered me and my sister from two years before. She speaks excellent English although we did try and use a bit of Spanish whenever we could.
We took a boat trip one day on a glass bottom boat. Both me and my brother threw up, but mum was merrily sitting on deck drinking the sangria and telling me (while I was throwing up over the side) that the sangria was absolutely lovely and that I should try it.
We also took a days trip another day to Magaluf, half of it to a Dolphin show which was absolutely brilliant and then on to an American cowboy themed water park. We even got mum going down a couple of slides and they had a show on where mum got soaked too.
It was quite a long trip that day and we were very tired when we got home.
The rest of the week was just spent having little walks and lazing about on the beach.
The bay is very calm and stays very shallow for a long way out so it is perfect for children and those people that are not such strong swimmers as it is not bobbing up and down. We did some snorkeling for the first time and there are some quite big fish there (as we saw when we went out on the glass bottomed boat)
The weather was exceptionally hot that week - must have been in the eighties, but there was usually a nice little breeze which kept us refreshed
It was, all in all, a superb holiday, but inevitably it went too fast.
I would definitely go back to these apartments and to Cala D’Or in the future. You never know we might even get mum there again.
This was our first visit to this...

This was our first visit to this part of Majorca. The holiday was for 3 of us, me, my wife and my daughter and we booked the holiday through MyTravel via the internet.
The price we paid for the holiday appeared to be a bargain (complete self catering holiday for only a few pounds more than we could have got flight only prices for) so we did not know what to expect in terms of accommodation
Our original flight time for this holiday was 18:30 but when we received our tickets this flight had been changed by 2 hours to 20:30. On arrival at Manchester airport we were informed that the flight had been delayed by 1 hour. We eventually left the UK at 22:15.
The flight and in flight service & meal was good.
When we arrived at Palma airport (01:45 local time) we were directed to the waiting coaches. The tour rep. Irish girl I think informed us that there were a total of 8 drops on the trip across the island to the east coast. Goes without saying we were the last drop. She told us this would be approx 60 minutes to the first drop (Cala de Majorca) and then approx a further 15 minutes to the Cala-dor area. This actually turned out to be a total trip of over 2.5 hours. When we arrived at our destination it was 05:00.That was our first night accommodation. Great start!
We had no problems checking in and we were allocated an apartment close to the main building / reception area on the 2nd level. I think this was block 1. More about this later.
We just had enough energy left to have a quick tour of the apartment before crashing out for a couple of hours. We were disappointed with the room we were allocated although the room was clean and spacious.
This was a room that is advertised as sleeping up to 4. it had one bedroom with 2 single beds (very comfortable) and a sofa in the main room area that had a pull out bed underneath that I don’t think would be suitable for anyone over aprox 10 years old.
The room was furnished with dark furniture and fittings. The room also overlooked the main bar area at the front and a supermarket at the back. We also discovered the following morning that the terrace would get very little sun until late in the day.
As I was the first one up the next morning I decided to go and ask the receptionist if it was possible to swap apartments. The manager was very accommodating and said we could swap but we needed to wait until an apartment had become available.
We were offered a new room at 10:30 that morning and were invited by the receptionist to go and have a look at it to see if we wanted it.
The new apartment was a lot nicer than our original with brighter furniture and curtains etc. the apartment was also in a lot better area of the complex. We also had a large terrace that was approx 15ft square and got the sun all day. We could just about see the beach from our balcony. Only a few trees spoiling it from getting a full view. Of course we took it and moved in straight away. This apartment was in block 8 at the other side of the road from the reception & bar area.
On a general note there are a few steps to negotiate around the complex when moving from one area to another.
Once we had got moved in we began to take a look around. The lovely beach was only a 2 minutes steady walk away. This was a popular beach with plenty of sun loungers & umbrellas for hire (approx 15 euros per day for 3 of us). There were also plenty of beaches to sit on without hiring the loungers.
We had 2 supermarkets within a five minute walk of the apartment. This could be less than a minute if you are in a different part of the complex. There was also a supermarket on the complex but this was generally more expensive and did not have a full range of general groceries etc.
The apartments had a total of 3 pools. One pool near to the main reception / bar area. We thought this pool was a bit open and had a constant stream of people walking through the area to get to apartments etc. It also did not get the sun for the full day. The second pool close to our apartment (approx 20 seconds walk) was in a quieter area. It looked like this pool had some kind of drinks / snack area with it in years gone by but this was locked and closed down whilst we were there and didn’t look like it had been open for some time. Although we preferred this pool it was a longer trip to go and get a drink or ice cream from the shop / reception area.
also this pool only had a limited number of loungers available although we did see plenty stacked up in other areas of the complex these had not been spread across all the pool areas equally. The 3rd pool was back near the main complex. This pool was around the same size as the other 2 but appeared to be limited by the number of loungers you could get around it as there was only a small area of paving around the pool.
All 3 pools were very clean and all had areas for younger children to play. All the sun loungers (free) looked like they needed to be cleaned and some were very grubby I even saw some that were un-usable as they were broken.
After finding our feet we came to the conclusion we did well to get the apartment we were able to swap into. We think block 8 is one of the best blocks in the complex and is different to the majority of the other blocks in the way that the apartments are laid out. There were also a couple of other blocks that had a similar layout (can’t remember the numbers) so I would imagine these would also be good. Most of the other blocks were at the same side of the road as the reception and these were typically 3 floors each apartment having a balcony.
It also appeared that some of these apartments were lived in rather than for holiday makers. Most of these were tidy but there was a few that looked a mess.
I guess it would be the luck of the draw if you were allocated one of these apartments. This is the only thing that would stop us from going back to this complex as we could end up in an apartment in the main area and although this may be suitable for some people it was not for us.
Finally regarding the complex itself we found the staff & maids very friendly. The reception staff were very helpful and spoke good English. The bar area was basic and small. The furniture in the bar area was badly worn. I am unable to comment on the entertainment as we walked into Cala dor on a evening but on a couple of occasions when we were on our way back to the apartment we saw...or heard the acts and this confirmed we were doing the right thing by walking to Cala-dor.
You will not be disappointed with the Cala-dor area itself. Although Cala-dor is approx 15 minutes steady walk away there are plenty of shops & bars to look in on route to the town from the minute you leave the complex. There are also lots of places to drink or eat within a 5 minute walk of the hotel.
Once you’ve made it to Cala-dor there are a further range of shops bars & particularly restaurants where you can get everything from Chinese to Indian or Tapas bars to Burger King! We ate in this are several nights (but not Burger King) and did not have a bad meal at all.
A further 10 minute walk from Cal-dor is the Marina area. This is well worth a visit as well. Around the Marina there is a further range of Bars and restaurants. The Jolly Roger pub was a favourite of ours. This small friendly English run bar (run by Steve & Jackie) is set overlooking the Marina and has sky TV as well as a range of English beers.
We also ate at the Acuarius restaurant in the Marina area. Again this was excellent food for not a lot of Euros.
A walk around to the other side of the marina would take approx 30 minutes where there are further bars and restaurants.
If you decided that the walk back to Cala Ferrera was too much it only cost us 5.5 euros to get a taxi back.
The weather was fantastic throughout our holiday...a bit cloudy & windy on our last day but I didn’t mind that. We never saw a drop of rain.
As our flight home was not until 01:30 in the night we wanted to secure the room until the early evening. Especially in light of us losing our first night accommodation due to late flight and slow transfer and despite several conversations with our tour rep Chris he was unable to set this up with the hotel. It was not until I asked for the supervisor became involved that a compromise was reached where we were able to move to a different apartment on the last day where we could keep the room until our coach arrived at 22:00.
This cost us 19 euros (would have been 38 but my travel agreed to go halves with us) because of our late arrival. The room we were allocated for our last few hours was worse than our first room but again typical of what you could get if you were unlucky on your being assigned one of these rooms.
In conclusion we had a great holiday, the resort and beach is first class. Cal-dor & the marina area is Fantastic, the weather was great and the Staff were friendly & helpful. Just a shame about some of the apartments.
Turned out to be a bargain for us and will definitely go back to the area again but not necessarily Ferrara Blanca apartments.
We had a great time here, our...

We had a great time here, our room was spotless the beds got changed twice in the 1 week we where there and towels changed 3 or 4 times the bins where emptied every day.
Staff where very helpful and couldn't do enough for us, we would go back without a doubt. We had a go on the little train that takes you to the centre of Cala D’Or on our first day this took 35 minutes and thought there’s no way we could walk that in the heat and got a taxi back this only took 2-3 minutes so after talking to the rep we made our way on foot 10 minutes tops.
There was good entertainment on in the apartments every night which was handy just to climb the stairs and go to bed.

We had a one week holiday on a self catering basis, my husband, 16 month old baby and myself.
We arrived at the Ferrera Blanca at approx midnight local time. The reception allocated the accommodation very efficiently and helped us to our room, as we had our buggy with the baby in, 2 suitcases and 3 bags.
As we had requested a room with a cot, you would think they may have guessed we had a baby with us, and that they might have put us on a lower level as there were no lifts. We were placed on the third floor, which by the end of the holiday was a nightmare of tramping up and downstairs with buggy and baby in tow.
On arrival at our room, we were disappointed at the low quality, and the dingy appearance, with the single dirty lampshade with a 40 watt bulb. We pulled our beds out, which were drawers under the two sofas, and attempted to make ourselves comfortable on the foam mattresses.
The next day, with proper light, the room appeared a little better, it was mostly clean, but very basic.
Child safety was not a feature of our room, and was a constant battle trying to keep our small child from emptying the cupboards and diving into the bidet in the bathroom.
We did have a nicely positioned room, with the balcony getting full sunshine for the majority of the day.
There were two small bins in the room, which were only emptied twice during our stay. In a self catering room, surely they realise that you might be cooking food and creating waste???
We ended up using the bathroom as a storage area for rubbish!
There were lots of restaurants and bars within easy walking distance from the hotel, though we found it was well worth walking a bit further into actual Cala d'or as we were based in Cala Ferrera. Cala D'or had better restaurants, which were slightly more expensive, but had more local food rather than the 'best full English' 'everything with chips' brigade near us!
Andy's Bar in Cala Ferrera was worth a look, and so was Cafe Mistral. PP Chaves was nice for a drink, but we were disappointed with the food when we ate there.
Well worth hiring a car to get away from the tourist rubbish, and get out into the island. Felanitx was a nice stop on a Sunday with a huge market. Cala Romantica had a fantastic beach, which was not as overcrowded as Cala Ferrera.
I did find the amount of 'British' bars and restaurants quite offensive, and the Carabel which had 'Dogs B****x' and 'our aim is to get you rat a***d' emblazoned all over it was quite distasteful, to say the least.
One large piece of advice I feel I should give, is do not eat in the buffet restaurant at the hotel. The food was very poor quality, and as it was mainly empty, we had a feeling that food may have been recycled meal after meal. We only had a breakfast there, but it was very poor.
There was food from the night before under the table next to us, which was writhing with ants, which was slightly off putting, and the piece of fresh pineapple I had was left uneaten due to the fact that I found some meat attached to it, and it had dried out round the edges, leading me to believe that it was not the first time it had been displayed!
This was the first time I had been to a hotel less than 4 star, and on a self catering basis. I will not be doing this again if this is what you can expect from these establishments.
If you are after just a base, and are not too bothered about the room, this is the place for you.
One last thing, the pools were very good, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
We have just arrived back from...

We have just arrived back from Calador spending one week at the Ferrera Blanca Apartments, we arrived early hours of Sunday very tired from a late night flight, we were allocated our apartment at 4.15am, first impression of the apartments, very basic but clean, but later found that the patio doors had been broken we immediately brought this to the attention of the Management who promised to have this dealt with in the morning, Good start to our holiday.
This was fixed later that day, on the evening had a shower before going out for the night and the bathroom, living room and bedroom was flooded as the shower water was not draining and came out underneath the toilet (great ready to go home and had only just got there) this was fixed within 10 minutes and the cleaners came and cleaned the room.
After all this thought our holiday was doomed, how wrong could we be, we had an absolutely fantastic time, our reps Jo and Chris were excellent. However the rep we had going back home on the Saturday needed to learn people's skills, we found her very rude and abrupt.
At 1.00am in the morning we asked her when arriving at the airport what we had to do next, bearing in mind we had never been to Spain before, her comment was to just rattle off two numbers, three times she said this until I said what the hell are you talking about, she said Gate Number - I said why the hell didn't you say that then instead of just shouting at us. Not happy with this girl at all bearing in mind that the reps are supposed to be there to help you. So if you get a small dark haired Irish Girl on your coach, be warned she is a nasty piece of work.
Would highly recommend The Three Dolphins and The Devonport for good English Food.
Night life, we spent a lot of time at the Tropical Gardens, good live entertainment although the drinks and food here were expensive. For a fun Karaoke night go along to the "Dogs Bol**x" good laugh, for a quite night "The Bottoms Up" next door. It took us about 3 minutes to get to the start of all the restaurants and bars but no noise level at night time from it.
The Beach was absolutely spotless and going in May was busy but plenty of "personal space". The weather all week, scorching hot. The pool at the apartment which we went to (there are three in total) was very, very clean, sun loungers were a bit mucky and could have done with being cleaned up a bit, but minor.
If you get chance go to the Marina - absolutely beautiful have a drink in "the Smugglers Inn with Alex, very friendly British fella" the yachts are magnificent - bit of a trek to get to it but well worthwhile - it took us about 20-25 minutes.
Very, very enjoyable holiday considering what happened at the beginning of our stay would highly recommend it to anyone.

Stayed in these apartments for a week last summer and had an amazing holiday, wish it could have lasted longer! The staff were very friendly and helpful whenever you needed them, the maids regularly cleaned the rooms and changed the bedding.
The location was excellent, the beach is literally a minute walk, just over the road. There are also a variety of bars and restaurants right on your doorstep which cater for everyone, so you'll never be stuck for somewhere to eat.
The 3 pools were all clean and a nice size, the hotel nightly entertainment was enjoyable for all. Overall this was a great holiday, great value for money. I would definitely recommend it and am hoping to go back myself this year.

This was our 3rd year here, what a brilliant time the kids have had, and the adults i was awarded Miss Ferrera Blanca!! In a competition for mad adults.
The apartments were excellent couldn’t fault the staff, we felt home from home. Dave Christina and Sergio were fantastic with us. We went as a group of 12. we were even given our regular rooms 12104 and 12105. The kids club was brilliant.
We would recommend this place to anyone who wants a good holiday with children. The day time fun was brilliant for kids and adults, we played in all the games, the kids didn’t want to leave the apartments for the two weeks we were there!
It is just a shame we couldn’t afford to go back there in 2005. And that’s because Skytours had finished there and air tours took over. We would like to go back but as single parents we couldn’t afford the new prices! And that’s no fault of the Ferrera Blanca.

We had an allocation on arrival so we had no idea what we were staying in... but when we arrived it was great!! Beach was 5 mins walk down the steps, pools were good and staff were even better!!
I loved the hotel and Majorca... but it wasnt the best holiday Ive ever had a I dislocated my knee in the pool, so was on crutches for 6 days of our 10 day holiday, was then in hospital on my second from last day and on a drip! And also something else happened on my second day there but im not going to mention that one!!
Doctors were good (thats helpful if you ever need one), and the hospital is sooooooooooo clean, I had my own room with en-suite toilet.... Don't bother with NHS!!! But other than that it was very nice!
I wouldn’t recommend this...

I wouldn’t recommend this holiday to anyone with kids. I went with my 5 kids and they thought that it was boring they didn’t like the entertainment an in the restaurant we found a cockroach in the toilet so we didn’t go back their.
The pools where bogan they hadn’t been cleaned since we arrived! So everyday we had to walk 30 minutes to the nearest beach. The bed sheets were also dirty and there were dirty dishes in the cupboards.
This was a total holiday disaster especially because I had 5 kids with me. The only good thing about the holiday was the vodka I got on the flight.

I have just arrived back from a weeks holiday in this hotel. It was a cheap holiday so as these apartments are only 2 keys then they where adequate. There is one thing to note, the apartments are not confined to the hotel. We where given a self catering apartment in B block which was out of the hotel across the road and down a slope, no where to park your car so a long way to carry your cases.
There are numerous quad like buildings painted white which all belong to the hotel so you could get anyone of these. This first B block apartment had wet patches on the pull out sofa bed so we complained and where given another apartment on the first floor of the main hotel which was excellent. We felt more secure than being out on a limb in a quad block. There was a safe in the room which you could hire a key for. There was also air conditioning in the room. We played a game called hunt the cleaner as we only saw her once in 7 days and then she only cleaned the entrance inside the room. the maids did change the bedding though. The shower curtain was all black on the bottom but the curtain was changed for a new one at our request. We ate out every evening and found a good Chinese restaurant just up the road. For a 2 key apartment it was ideal.
They are not new but clean and had microwave, cooker fridge, cutlery. The staff where friendly and yes it was a bit noisy from the entertainment if you wanted an early night. Oh and just one thing, make sure when you leave the room that you take the key from out of the lock as the lock is a Yale type and the door closes behind you. I found this out on the day of departure, luckily all our belongings had already been taken out of the room.
We heard that people had been...

We heard that people had been burgled at these apartments so were a bit put off by this, but we had nothing to worry about, we had no trouble at all and never heard of any.
These apartments were lovely, had everything you needed, very clean, maid service nearly every day and the staff were very friendly especially the entertainment team, there was entertainment on every night at the apartments, but if you preferred there were plenty of bars and restaurants close by one called Polynesian just round corner from reception, worth going in very friendly, Cala Dor centre was only 10mins walk, we went to Linnekers bar and Woodys , would recommend both, also plenty of trips to go on, Inca market and boat trip worth going on, also the marina some fabulous yachts on there.
Couldn’t have had better apartment, overlooked the beach, I would definitely recommend these apartments to anyone thinking of going, we had a great time and would definitely go back.

Looked at the reviews before we went and this aided us to book these apartments. Can only agree with everyone else, cleaners cleaned every day and very cheery, the pools were examined every day for bugs ect. All the staff were very helpful. Got up one day and had no electricity phoned reception and a man was up in 15 mins to check it, the boiler wasn’t working right came back in 30 mins and fitted a new one. I have just arrived back from a two week stay at the Ferrera Blanca Apartments in Cala D'Or. My group was made up of two adults and three children, namely an 8 year old and two toddlers, the Ferrera Blanca apartments were perfect for all three. There was a choice of two large pools for the 8 year old and a baby pool for the younger two, all were extremely clean.
The complex has everything you could want, a supermarket which is very reasonable, a restaurant, snack bar, washing machines and tumble dryers. Every room has a brush, mop and dustpan, microwave, kettle and toaster which proved helpful when you have two toddlers. The room was cleaned almost every day and fresh towels provided.
The entertainment team were excellent every day there were free activities, water gym, water polo, volleyball, archery. target shooting and football. At night the entertainment started at 9.00pm with a kiddies disco followed by bingo where the prize money depended on the amount of people playing approx 100 euros per night and finally a show with everything winding up at midnight.
Overall the whole holiday was a complete success, the resort is very safe with plenty of shops, restaurants and kiddies amusements.
