Had to write, went October 2009 and will be returning. Most people thought the same as me, great value, wonderful people, paradise setting. How can anyone complain? What do they want, Virgin are brilliant, have used them for years and cannot speak to highly of them. Stayed... more

Me, my husband and 2 children (aged 5 and 9) had the most fantastic 10 night holiday here. I can't fault a thing! Booked online with Virgin, checked in online (which saved a lot of time at Gatwick) and did the check in chill out for our return (only at Grantley Adam's for... more

One Tip: Always book a Virgin Holiday! This was the first time we had gone through Virgin and the holiday was the best we have ever had. From start to finish the staff, food, room and customer service was 2nd to none. Upon arrival we were shown our beach view room and it... more

WICKED!!! I will definitely be returning to The Gap! I found the staff extremely helpful and the room really clean. The aircon was cool and nice - you felt as if you walked into an icebox, which was a refreshing change after coming in from the heat. Met some lovely locals... more

I can't understand all the negative comments I read on this site. We went to St Lawrence Gap for a family wedding at a nearby hotel. So there were 11 of us at Escape at the Gap.( I hope we weren't too noisy) We had a great time and found the staff very helpful and friendly,... more

Paradise ?
Returned from two week break on 7th March. Initial impression of hotel and surroundings was not good. In fact my wife was crying on the first night. However, after a few days the place grew on us and we had a great holiday.Positives were the beach, weather, gym, food (particularly the Pirates Restaurant) and the friendliness of all the staff and locals.Negatives were the hotel needs redecorating, nightly entertainment (none at all on Saturdays), swimming pools, Pirates Restaurant opening only four days/week, surroundings and the beach sellers.
Paradise just 8 hours away!!!!!
I have just come back from Escape at the Gap,all I can say is wow !!!. You can still find paradise a short haul away. Food superb, staff friendly and a beach to die for. Cant wait to go back..............
Loved it!!!
I have just returned from a holiday in Barbados. We stayed at Escape at the Gap and like other people who had read these reviews before going, were worried about what it would be like. When we got there we thought it was great. The rooms were clean and spacious and the staff were very friendly, even bringing our meal up to our room when my boyfriend got sunstroke and had to leave the restaurant!! We stayed in the main block and had a sea view. As the hotel is right on the beach we didnt bother with the pool. The beach and the sea were absolutely gorgeous and sunbeds were free (you have to pay for umberellas and mats but its cheap). The meals were nice, especially the omelettes at breakfast and the grilled king fish at dinner. On buffet nights and at breakfast and lunch there was lots of choice and you could have as much as you like. The entertainment was good, it included a steel drum band and live singers. The bar did close at about 11:15 but at the end of the day your holiday is what you make it so either go out earlier so you are drunk enough by 11:15 or go out of the hotel to the local bars/pubs after the hotel bar closes! The submarine trip is worth going on as you see all sorts of coloured fish and turtles - but take a camera without a flash otherwise the pictures dont come out - as i have found out! I would also recommend the Bajan Roots and Rhythms Night Out - Limbo Dancers, Stilt Walkers and a fire eater - it was a good night and reallty gets you in to the holiday atmosphere. All in all, it was a brilliant holiday and i am totally depressed to be back at work!!
Don't believe everything you read!
We have just returned having spent two weeks at Escape at the Gap. We were a bit concerned about what to expect having read some of the reviews, but we needn't have worried. We had a great room with an ocean view. It was wonderful to wake up in the morning to hear the sound of the waves breaking on the shore. The rooms were clean and tidy and kept clean by the maid on a daily basis. It's surprising how much sand you do bring up from the beach. The food was excellent and there was plenty of choice and always something suitable for our 11 year old son. Cecil, Sandra and Sonia were always extremely helpful and friendly, as were the majority of the staff. The restaurant did run out of plates on occasions but we found that it was easier not to go in at peak times. Afternoon tea was a nice touch and you certainly didn't get the chance to feel hungry between meals! On the whole great value for money. You just need to chill out and switch onto Bajan time!! The beach is excellent for children and although you do get some hassle from the aloe vera sellers, a polite 'no thanks' will send them away. Sue, Steve and Thomas
Escape at the Gap - Brilliant and wonderful for chidren too
We have just retuned from a glorious week at Escape at the Gap with out two children aged 3 and 15 months. We have had the most wonderful time - the beach was right outside the door, the accommodation was very good quality (although stay in the Pirates Block) the Pools were adequate but with a beach that close that was all they needed to be. For a wonderful, affordable holiday to Barbados this is the place to be. Only downside was having to book what time you wanted to eat your dinner at breakfast time!!!!
Escape At The Gap
I spent 10 days at Escape just before Christmas and was pleasantly surprised at the standards of the building. I stayed in a ocean view superior room and the views were amazing.. the sea really IS turquoise! My room was clean & tidy, but directly above the bar, and because of the slatted window shutters rather than glazed windows in part of the room, the noise at night was very very loud. To be honest, for the size of the hotel & bar, the sound system was dreadfully loud and actually spoiled the entertainment by distorting the sound. If you are taking children or want a quiet evening, I would suggest booking your room in the Pirates block to keep the noise levels to a bearable level. Also as mentioned by a previous reviewer.. the whistling frogs are SOOOOOO loud! The staff were pleasant in general, and the Virgin rep was lovely, but the woman making the omelettes at breakfast didn't smile for the whole time I was there! (she should try doing my job sitting in traffic jams in London.. then she'd have something to be miserable about lol)Barbados as an island is beautiful, but does come across as a bit 'tatty'. The capital is tiny & the shops are very disappointing considering the 'cruise ship' market. I expected it to be a bit more 'americanised'.This hotel provided a good deal.. nice food, beautiful beach, clean room.. and not a bad price. I would recommend it to friends etc
God's swimming pool
My wife and I recently returned home from staying at this hotel . We booked our holiday with Virgin some months ago and only after booking it, did we find this forum and the good and bad reports. The hotels guests come mainly from Virgin Holidays but with a smattering of  snow birds  , wintering down from Canada, one couple we met, use it regularly and were there for a five week stint. The hotel caters mainly for young families, mum, dad and two point four kids. It s not the place for late teens early twenties, although the Gap area is, so I suppose it could be a good base for night life in the area. There were several couples of fifty plus who had mixed feelings about the hotel and like, Marmite they either liked it or hated it. We are a couple who have travelled the world and bearing in mind Caribbean hotel star ratings, this one we pitched at the high end of three star and over all we enjoyed our stay. It is unfortunately built in two parts separated by a road but with good slow you down traffic bumps, watch your kids. The beach side is, we found, the area of most attraction but only has a kiddy paddling pool. God provided the golden sand and the marvellous swimming pool, the ocean, right on the hotel s door step, so no problem. The restauranting could be better, but if you like a  trencher man meal, then the self service meals are for you, weight watchers look out! if you like waiter service at dinner, then note that the a la carte restaurant is unfortunately not always open, which we would have liked. Ask for the fish to be lightly done or it comes cremated. The staff are, mostly friendly and a joy to talk to, excepting the guys at the beach bar, who seemed couldn t care a lot and were a surly bunch. Over all and bearing in mind price and star rating, we give it a tick and not a cross. .
Fab Holiday
I've just returned to a wet and windy Scotland after 2 glorious weeks at Escape At The Gap, where I had a fabulous holiday. The weather was fantastic and the beach with it's white sands and crystal clear water was incredible. You do get bothered with the occassional beach seller, however if you tell them politely your not interested they respect your wishes. I've travelled quite a bit and in my experience you are always going to get people trying to sell you their merchandise no matter where you go. In my opinion the hotel itself is in need of a little tender loving care, the main pool was drained and re-painted during the 1st week of my holiday and the gardens were being landscaped, which shows they are spending money putting things right. My room was on the top floor(3rd) with no lift, which was'nt as bad as some people have made out, it's probably the most exercise I had walking up and down the stairs in the 2 weeks I was there! The room was cleaned every day and fresh towels were available, if requested(see notice in bathroom). The staff are very friendly if you take the time to be courteous to them, the food is good with plenty to choose from. A special thanks to Cecil, Yvette, Tara, Sandra for looking after us during meal times. There was entertainment in the evening generally between 8 - 11pm, some nights better than others. If you are looking for a holiday where you can take the family and just relax and chill out on the beach or at the pool, then Escape At The Gap is the place to be. I know they say the Scots like a drink, but watch out for the local rum, it's strong stuff!!!
loved it
i hav recently been 2 escape at the gap before christmas. although i am only 14 i luved it. it was absolutley amazing! the hotel was very simple but you are never in there anyway. the locals are very friendly and it you say no thanks they will give you no hassle. the beach was absolutley amazing. the food wasnt excellent, but had a wide variety of choices. the staff were ok bt wartch out for a few moody ones. the entertainment was brilliant and finished at 11 every night. my family and i stayed in the penthouse and the view was absolutley incredable! i would love to go back to escape at the gap!!!
IT`S A JOKE
my family with son of 9 went to the escape in october it was a joke now were do i start the room had a smell about it the pillows and bedding smelled of sweaty bodys, the pool was not cleaned till the second week so it was filthy, ran out of plates in dinner hall,it was more like half board than all-inc, food was at set times so if you missed a meal you were starving by time it was the next one, waited twice over an hour for our meal with a 9year old does not go down well.Because a wedding party of 40 arrived the same time the hotel and staff could not handle the presure.there was no entertainment at all till everybody complained and what was then put on was terrible the ONE bar not three ran out of beer the bar staff were ignorant and some of them did not even know how to make a cocktail. Two of the guests were hit by cricket balls one quite serious from a local match on the pavilion just by the hotel.Any way i will end on a good note the highlite of the holiday was a turtle came a shore to lay her eggs and the following night a turtles nest hatched with over a hundred babys all trying to get to the sea it was a wonderfull sight and one that will stay in my mind for ever.Shame about the place.
