Best Holiday we have ever had
10 / 10

Just arrived home early hours of this morning from the Villa Mandi, and i can honestly say it was the best holiday we have ever had(and we go away yearly).
The apartments were huge, we had a two bedroom apartment(no:339),on entering we were really impressed with the size it was huge and on two levels, it had two bathrooms aswell and two balconies one that went right the way around from front to back of the apartment. It also had air con in each room.
The apartment was cleaned daily, beds made daily and they were changed three times per week, towels are changed as often as you want them to be as they have baskets in the bathroom for you to put them in when you want to change them.
The only down side is the kitchen area as it is just a tiny fridge with a mini freezer in it, two electric rings, and a microwave, but we ate out most nights so not a big problems for us.
The site is beautiful, very clean and the gardeners and cleaners are about daily tending to the site. We didn't see a single cockroach all holiday either, onsite or in town.
The reps on site and there is alot of them were really friendly and helpful and they came over chatting etc, there was daytime activities every day from about 10 until 5 and also evening entertainment starting from 8.15 until midnight in the disco bar, only gripe i have is that sometimes the air-con didn't work in the disco bar and it got really hot.
There is a crazy golf course, pool tables(3 of them) a games room, two play areas, a splash pool and a soft play area for the kids aswell as the creche and the kids clubs and not forgetting the swimming pools.
The swimming pools(2 of them) are split on two levels, there is one where the activites take place and a quieter one, s couple of pointers aboout the pool area, we had some Brits who were stood by 'their' sunbeds from 7.45 to make sure they got their beds everyday eventhough you can't put your towels down until 8.45 and then once their towels were down thay didn't appear around the pool until late afternoon most days - just selfish Brits. Also the pool floor is very slippery and gets very hot, people were slipping over in sandals etc and one women even went down the stairs with a baby in arms so you do have to walk very slowly and try and avoid the wet patches.
The reception staff we brilliant although if you need them after 10pm the guy on the night shift is that great at english so you have play charades with him to get him to understand, but the reps are about until midnight so go to them if you need anything between 10-12.
The only bit of the hotel that lets it down is the restaurant/pool bar(same place), the food isn't that great in the restaurant and quite expensive and the bar staff(except Steve who is great) are miserable and can be rude.
On site supermarket is small but had most things we needed if we ran low on something but their is cheaper supermarkets intown such as iceland near the arona princess hotel, though the onsite supermaket baked its only bread and croissants daily which were nice.
Lastly the location, i quite liked being out of town but then we did hire a car for the holiday so we had no problems getting into town, though its about 15 mins walk into town over some dirt tracks or longer if you stick to the pavement, but taxi's were coming back and froth everday and people say it cost them 5 euros to get into town.
Would definely go back there again.

  • Advice: walk carefully around the pool, and don't pay for tv if its for the kids as Disney channel is free and in English mostly.

Great Family Holiday Experience

We have just returned from 2 weeks at Villa Mandi, having previously done a Thomson Familyclub Extra holiday our epectations were met - 24 reps, Super Duper Dawn was the best - she makes time to talk to all guests and is a real pleasure to watch someone who clearly loves her job so much - promote her Thomson or give he a payrise!
The hotel was surprisingly smaller than what we have experienced before (Alykanas Village - Zante) Pools smaller and general hotel area much smaller - but rooms were about 10 times better and probably best we have experienced to date - very roomy, we could have played football on our balcony.
Some bad points;
Location - you have to get taxis - 20 min walk MINIMUM and boring
Food - Don't bother with the restaurant - unless you dont mind 2 star standard and service, the Spanish employees not as friendly as the English - Steve is really good and others should follow the example he makes.
Slippy floor - Our friend broke her arm slipping on the poolside floor
Freebird boat trip - forget it if you are easily sea sick or dont like flat drinks.
Security - 3 rooms broken in when we were there - not even got CCTV
Overall though we would recommend it, we never go back to same place so couldnt say I would go back and would say Alykanas Village is better than Villa Mandi (apart from rooms)
Thanks Thomson for another great family holiday.

  • Advice: Tenerife is a lovely place, 14 days of sunshine with no rain.

We have just returned from a 7night stay at this hotel and would glady return again. The rooms are by far the biggest and cleanest S.C apartments I have ever stayed in and where cleaned every day. The hotel complex is clean and welcoming and well designed. We never struggled for sun loungers or parasols and the Reps, childrens club and entertainers where faultless. We travelled with a 3&4yr old and I would recommend anyone with a child under 6 take a buggy, because there is a good 15min walk to the centre. However, we did this both during the day and in the evening and found it to be a comfortable walk. If you don't mind walking then you should be o.k. Taxi's back are no more than 5Euros. The on site supermarket does try to take advantage of the 10min wlk to the major store, so we stayed clear. The staff on site were very friendly, and gave my boys a lolly pop each evening if they ate their meal(may send them the dentist bill)and never took a penny for them. Overall we found it really good, and I say this honestly, having spent last year in an equally as good Thomson hotel in Marjorca which I had wanted to return to, so my view was sceptical when we arrived.
For me the only down side to this hotel was the immediate surrounding area which is quite barron and bland. The Reps informed us that the land was bought up, but no-one was building on it yet, and for me this made the walk to the supermarket a little bleak. The on-site restaurant is ok and the pool area can get slippy and hot,so flip-flops are a must. I think it is hard to tick every box for any holiday, but overall I would give this hotel a good 8.
We also venture to Siam Park, which in my opinion is a must for any couple or family.
We spoke to many families who had returned for a few years to this complex and who plan to go again next year.
We're already looking for next year

We were staying at the Villa Mandi for a week in May and we had a fantastic holiday. As we arrived at Villa Mandi our first impression was very good, it looked exactly like the pictures in the travel brochures and was very clean and tidy. The reception staff were very friendly and spoke perfect english.
Our apartment was on ground level but just up a few steps so it felt seperate to the neighbouring apartments. The only issue we found was the apartment above had a balcony to which the people in put bread out to feed the birds and my husband found he had a shower of bread crumbs every now and then!
I liked the key system with a card entry and again for the electric. The only issue is a couple of times the card did not work but this was due to me placing the card next to my phone. When this happened, the reception staff easily reprogrammed the card.
The apartment was clean and tidy, and much bigger than expected. It could have done with a bit of redecoration as the wallpaper wasn't perfect, and there was a small issue with some lighting and one of the sinks in the bathroom, but as this place had two sinks in the bathroom (first time we've ever come across this!!) it wasn't a problem at all.
We were quite annoyed that the television did not have any English television channels unless you pay extra. We did this and ended up with a few channels in English. As the majority if not all of the people staying at the resort were English, it seemed strange for all the free channels to be Spanish/German.
The maid service was fantastic. They even came to the rooms on the days when they weren't meant to (according to the poster on the wall in the apartment!).
The bar was reasonabley priced, and the pools were well maintained and of a good size. The mini golf was fun to play too.
The supermarket was overpriced, as all onsite supermarkets tend to be. I also found the internet access quite expensive at the resort. However, there is a supermarket on the way into town which is open 24/7 and was reasonably priced, and a bit further into town another which was even cheaper.
The location of the resort is quite a walk from the main town of Los Cristianos, but it was a pleasant walk and allowed for some Lizard spotting. Initially we never managed to find the same route to and from town, but we eventually found one way that we could remember each time, and the only annoying thing was the incredibley high foot bridge over the main road, which was really steep!
I highly recommend the accommodation, especially to families but to anyone. The apartments are quite spread out and we didn't find it particularly noisy, I guess some apartments would be noisier than others depending on how close to the bar/pool they are. But it was never a problem for us.

My husband and i just returned on the 18/5/10, i have to say it was one of the best self catering apts we have had, very nice and beds made every day, and clean towels every few days, very nice hotel, nice staff and all the reps were very helpful and gr8 fun around the pool area during the day,the only thing i didnt like is it is a bit out from the main strip i.e shops, restuarant, beech. Although the hotel puts a free coach on every day at 10.30 or 11.30 drops you off and pick up at 5.30. We walked it one night and it took half an hour at a leisurely pace, but was too hot to do this during the day, if you dont mind walking you wont mind, overall had a gr8 holiday ... L.Kerray

We are a couple in our 30's with a 4 year old daughter. We had 14 nights at the Villa Mandi. Weather was perfect all 14 days.
Here are the things we loved about Villa Mandi:
1. The Quiet location
2. The Pool areas and day entertainment
3. The great staff in reception
4. The excellent Thomson's reps (especially Reanne and Thomson... 'THE DOG')
5. The cleanliness of the rooms and grounds
6. The generous size of the rooms
7. And the best thing about it was... The Kids Club and staff.
But there were some negatives:
1. The high priced supermarket on-site
2. The long walk to other bars and other supermarkets (about 10-15 mins if you walk fast)
3. The not so friendly and slow pool bar staff
4. The food served on-site was poor value
5. The very hot and slippy tiles around the pool made grown men cry
6. Not enough Parasols around the pool
7. You have to put your towels out at 9am if you want a decent spot round the pool
8. High cost security safe (32 Euros for 14 nights)
Overall we had a great holiday and will probably return because the kids club was so good. We flew with Monarch who gave us extra leg room seats out and inbound. The Monarch flights were cheaper and at better times than the Thompson flights. We got a taxi from Airport to Villa Mandi (25 Euros each way, takes about 15 minutes) because we can't stand the rigmorole of airport transfers.

  • Advice: Typical Beach Resort
  • Activities: Don't stick to one restaurant, try as many as you can.

If you like 4 start quality with the added bonus of constant entertainment in a modern resort villa mandi is for you. We have just returned from one week in Villa Mandi. We normally don't do package holidays and book independently. This year we booked a package at last minute. We travelled with out 6 and 12 year old boys. The apartments are set in well kept gardens over looking a golf course def worth the 4 start status, internally they are clean and spacious, the kitchen was poorly equipped and it would be impossible cook anything more than a slice of toast or a salad at lunch time - this was fine for us but a surprise in comparison to other holiday apartments we have stayed in. The apartments also lacked storage for clothes. However they we clean and in good condition, daily maid changing towels etc.
The pool area is lovely and clean, one pool has constant activities and games and the other was quieter being slightly boring and enjoying peace and quiet we went for the quiet pool. The bar is lovely, food OK but we ate out all nights but one, too many restaurants around to enjoy.
15 to 20 minute walk to shops and bar, lots of taxis, supermarket at resort very expensive. Resort ok but we did miss lack of old town, full on bars and restaurants offering full english breakfast - which is not what we go on holiday for - did find some nice tapas bars our fav was Sal Negra in Los Cristianos, fab food and view and even managed to throw together a pizza for the kids even though not on menu.
Great kids club and cant speak highly enough of the girls in kidszone - very professional and had no concerns leaving our 6 year old in there care.
So would we go back - yes we would, but ideally we like to explore new places

We're a family of four, our two boys being 3 and 6. I'll break my review into different catergories.
Accomodation - The accomodation was 1st class and a lot bigger than we expected. It was in a very good condition and a cleaner would be there on a daily basis to replace any towels and take away any rubbish. You are supplied with a microwave, hob, kettle and toaster, which you don't have to hire. You can also choose to get Sky. Although we didn't, the costs were approximately €5 per night. If you don't get Sky you get a few Spanish channels, BBC News, CNN and Eurosport. On a side note we couldn't believe how well kept the grounds were.
Restaurant - We had one breakfast and one evening meal in the on site restaurant. We all enjoyed the breakfast, with a large variety to please all, if a little on the expensive size. The evening meal however was a different matter. The food was bland and horrible and we never went back there again. A few other people we spoke to also said the same about the evening meal. The staff at the restaurant were excellent though and made a real effort with us and the kids.
Shop - As previously mentioned the shop is rather expensive, but it does cater for most of your needs. If you really didn't want to use it there are plenty of shops in Los Christianos which you can buy your supplies.
Reps and Staff - Whoever deals with the hiring of staff here should be given a slap on the back. During our stay every member of staff was absolutely fantastic. From the Reps, who spend so much time and effort to ensure everyone has a good holiday, to the restaurant staff, bar staff, the girls who work in the shop, cleaners and the hotel reception. I seriously can't give the employees enough praise and they are one of the main reasons why we'll be booking up again next year.
Entertainment - There was so much stuff going on during the day and evening that we regretted pre buying tickets to Jungle Park and Aqualand. Our children had much more fun playing around the pool doing the games the Reps run. The kiddy clubs they run are well orgnaised and each time our children had great fun. The hour long kidzone between 20:30-21:30 can become repetitive for adults, but, again, our kids loved it every night. The Reps put so much effort into running it that you end up tired watching them!! The entertainment after was nothing spectacular but good enough.
Vacinty - It is about a 20 minute walk to Los Christianos. We done the walk on the first day but then got a cab anywhere we wanted after that. You can book a cab from hotel reception and there are loads of them all around town for the return journey. It was around €6 to Los Christianos. I found, on the whole, the cab experience to be very cost effective.
Things to do - We only did two excursions to Jungle Park and Aqualand. Both were ok although our kids wanted to go back to playing by the pool. We were told that Siam Park was very good, better than Aqualand. We prebooked before we went but in hindsight we'd have waited until our holiday. When eating out we really liked the Aberdeen steak house, where you could get a three course meal for €7.99, and the Slow boat, a very nice chinese.
As you can probably tell we loved our holiday and will defintely be booking up again for next year. If given a choice you should go for self catering. If i had to endure the on site restaurant everynight it would have spoiled the holiday a bit.

Just got back from the Villa Mandi after a 2 week stay and wanted to comment straight away for all those out there who want some feedback. We went with Thomson from 1st -15th May self catering.
First the reps. Fantastic!! They all worked exceptionally hard and had endless energy. I don’t think I saw any without a smile on their face and they always seemed genuinely happy to see and talk to you. There were 10 of them working at villa mandi and I could try to name them all but would probably fail. The two most memorable, simply because they ran all the poolside activities and evening stuff, were Dawn and Rhianne. They were excellent and must surely be taking their vitamins every day (or happy pills) as they never stopped. All of them deserve loads of praise though.
We’ve never been on a family club holiday before (usually travel independently) and I was a bit worried before I went that it would be a bit like that programme “Benidorm” that was on tv with enforced merriment and dreadful entertainment. Thankfully it wasn’t. Although there were activities around the pool from 11am (on the hour till 4pm) the reps didn’t bother you if it was clear you didn’t want to get involved. All the activities (except water polo) were open to all ages. We played most of them at some point and had a lot of fun, and won prizes!! Our 4 year old went to the Tots club (10-12am) a number of times and really enjoyed it. I was very impressed with the kidzone rooms that were very well resourced and beautifully decorated by the reps. There was also a drop in club most days (1-3pm) and an evening club (6.30-8.30pm) which cost €3. When our wee one got a bit too much sun at the beach these clubs were particularly great as they kept him entertained while out of the sun….we’d never have been able to keep him sitting in the shade all day! On a Thursday evening there was a chocolate party at the club. We didn’t bother feeding our 4 year old that night as he had so many sweets and chocolate there was no point. Kids get totally covered in chocolate and have a ball…expect them to be messy and don’t put on their party clothes before sending them!
Three mornings a week (9-9.45) there was toddlerzone for under 3s (parent to stay) with craft, story and singing. Our 1year old enjoyed this too and made some pretty pictures.
Every evening from 8.30-9.30ish there was the kids disco led again by the reps. This was thoroughly enjoyed by most of the kids. I found it really boring after the 2nd night as it was the same songs and dances every night and the games lasted way too long (especially for the younger kids who were sitting out most of the time). I think there should have been opportunities for kids to do their own dancing to other music and even to dance with their parents. After kids disco there was prize giving, then some form of entertainment laid on by the reps or the hotel, some of this was particularly good but by the time it started (10ish) we usually had to leave to put the kids to bed, shame it was so late. All of this was rounded off by a disco till after 12.00.
Now the hotel: Yes it is a 20 to 25 min walk from the beach, but there are 2 courtesy buses down each morning and one back in the late afternoon (could do with several more times). We took buggies for both our kids and didn’t find the walk there or back any bother at all. I’d say the biggest problem was just finding out the best route to take to get to where you want to go. Taxi cost no more than €5.50, though check your change carefully as they are pretty fly and short changed us on 2 occasions.
The rooms are a great size and many have fantastic views, though some most certainly don’t, so be sure to ask for a room overlooking the golf course when you book or you could end up looking at the wall of the room opposite. Cooking facilities are very basic and disappointing, 2 ring cooker but very difficult to fit 2 pots on at the same time! Had to ask for sharp knives and a tin opener, and had to ‘acquire’ some decent tall glasses from the bar. Little storage for food. Clothes storage is poor too. Big wardrobes but no real shelving. Hotel charge for safe in your room €2.50 a day, which is a total rip off as you can’t do without it. Especially as the cleaners are in every day, and in our case the gardener to get access for watering a plant on the roof (hotel didn’t even inform us about this bloke). Don’t expect a sunbed on your balcony as these cost €2.65 a day each…rip off too. Prices in the hotel shop are hugely inflated (about 4 times that of the supermarkets) though there is a good selection, so we avoided it at all costs. Ice lollies at the bar are extortionate (nearly €10 for 4!!) even for the cheapest. All of the staff in the hotel were very nice indeed and just like the reps, all smiled when they saw you. The pool area was given a thorough clean each morning, which is why you can’t use the sunbeds before 9am. The lady who cleaned our room was absolutely fantastic. Her name was Candelaria, named after one of Tenerife’s saints. Very quick but did a good deep clean every day (was there when she did it a few times) and I only wish I could find someone like her back here to clean my house.
Prices in the hotel & for the services were the only reason it didn’t score a 10/10

we only had a small local hoilday in august as we wanted to have our family holiday in Tenerife at x-mas it was worth waiting for.We had only one day of heavy rain and the rest of the week was fantastic. The hotel was amazing couldn't falt it,it was so clean. My two children thought they were stopping in a pent house suite it was massive and upstairs with their own bathroom. We had quite a few meals in the restaurant which were quite nice but expensive. The pool was lovely and the children spent most of their time there, the tiles around the pool were slippy, but you just had to tred carefully,it was no slippier than anywhere else we've been. All of the staff was well mannered and polite and willing to help. The only reason we havent gave it a ten out of ten is the distance down to the harbour or beach. We enjoy walking it took about 15 minutes to get there, which we didn't mind at first but by the end of the week it was begining to get to us,especially when you only wanted a meal and a drink at night. That was the only down side/oh yes the Tom-Tom drums which we heared a couple of nights when we where in bed which went on till quite late.Overall the holiday was excellent and we would go there again.

I feel compelled to write this review after having read some of the others regarding the Villa Mandi and especially the Thomson reps. My husband and I took our 3-year-old daughter to Villa Mandi in October in what turned out to be the final 2 weeks of Thomson's 'residence' there. We had read reviews before we left, so were wary of a few things (sunbed rules, distance to beach, etc. etc.) but we ended up having a fantastic time. The only thing stopping me giving the resort a 10/10 rating was the fact that the main pool was closed for the final 5 days of our holiday for 'essential maintenance' - something Thomson knew about but had chosen not to tell us about when we booked (black mark for Thomson). The hotel is a good distance from town if you are walking with a small child, but taxis are plentiful and it wasn't a real hardship. Can't comment on the food as we only ate in the restaurant a couple of times (not bad). But what I can't understand is the negative comments about the reps... Super Duper Dawn was fantastic, as were all the girls. It was their last 2 weeks there, so you might have expected them to be a bit 'demob happy' themselves, but they were all great. The hotel was half-empty, but they still put in lots of effort and made the holiday that extra bit special for us. My little girl has developed a Thomson The Dog obsession which shows no sign of going away! So thank you Thomson Reps, and especially Dawn and Philippa, for being such lovely hosts.
