This hotel is amazing, it is set in utterly beautiful surroundings within a private walled garden with a swimming pool in the centre. There is an indoor pool, sauna and gym as well and waiter service is available by the pool all day. The hotel is about 10 minutes on a tram... more

A Beautiful Hotel and Garden
This is a fabulous hotel set in beautiful tranquil gardens. The hotel rooms are in two new wings connected by a walkway to the Palace which contains one of their two restaurants, bar and numerous beautifully restored function rooms. It also has its own beautiful chapel. The stained glass windows in the lobby and chapel are stunning. It also has a heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, spa and fully equiped gym, which all look out over the beautiful outdoor pool. Our bedroom was very well equiped and spacious and on arrival recieved 4 portugese custard tarts and a BOTTLE of port! We were also given as part of our deal a Lisboa Card which gives you free entry to most Museums and free use of most transport. This Hotel is also within walking distance of Belam where alot of the museums are.We found nothing nicer, after looking through museums during the day, to coming back to our sanctuary at the hotel and lazing around the pool.It also runs a free shuttle service into downtown.
Love, love, loved it!
Stayed here toward the end of August with my boyfriend. We had a wonderful stay at Pestana Palace. Staff were courteous and helpful and even when they were busy were always attentive. Breakfast was brilliant and it was lovely to have the option of sitting outside for breakfast. Rooms were stylish, the bed was huge and really firm and the bathroom quite lovely (great shower!). The 'palace' part of the hotel was quite picturesque as were the gardens and pool area. Taxis were very reasonably priced to get to and from the city and the tram (behind the hotel) was a delightfully unique way to travel also. We didn't want to leave at the end of our stay. Pestana Palace is in a class all it's own. We will definitely be back to this hotel.
Super break!
Flight left Dublin at 7am so we arrived in Lisbon at about 9:30am. Got a taxi to the Hotel Pestana Palace for €15.We knew we were early but decided to ask at reception if we could leave our luggage. The receptionist was very pleasant and informed us that though our room was not ready there was another which was and we were welcome to have it. The reception area and the main Palace building are magnificent but the modern blocks of bedrooms were slightly disappointing in comparison. However the quality and efficiency of the staff made up for this slight drawback. Breakfast was first class and could be served outside if you so wished. Ensure that you dine at least once in the Vale Flor Restaurant. For a city centre hotel the gardens were expansive and beautiful, and the pool area was a peaceful haven. Use the free hotel shuttle to take you to the city centre or some of the other city sights. Lisbon is a very interesting city and there is lots to see and do. All and all it was a very pleasant experience and I have no problem in recommending this hotel.
Full marks
I highly recommend this hotel which was a home from home with excellent and caring service and very good accommodation in luxurious and lush surroundings. The main building is architecturally wonderful, although by comparison the new buildings have little flair. The semi-tropical grounds are delightful and the outdoor pool and outdoor terrace for breakfast are major summer advantages. The hotel is in a plush residential district away from the hurly burly of the city. Taxis are usually available immediately and the old town centre is only 5 or 10 minutes away. Taxi fares are low by UK standards. For the standards provided by this hotel and the prices they charge, I was delighted with my choice and would definately return.
superbly elegant, yet cosy and relaxed
THE best hotel I've ever visited. Firstly, everybody was very friendly (applies also to Lisbon in general). The old palace functions as the hotel's public spaces (and there are evidently some rooms, too), Well, it really is a palace! The breakfast room (the hotel's famous restaurant also) was apparently the former main ball room of the palace. One could also have breakfast on the terace facing the garden. The two modern wings, where most of the rooms are situated, form a kind of a wall between the lush garden and the suburb arounding the hotel. There was a nice little "japanese style" summer house in middle of the garden, where sandwiches and salads and beverage was served. From the summer house there was a view to small but adequate pool with a fontain. The room was spacious, classically decorated and clean. The bath room was luxurious. The thing, which made the visit so special was the athmosphere: clearly luxurious, but at the same time tranquil and relaxed (not this uptigh feeling like in some bigger 5* hotels). Some examples of prices: a sandwich with a salad and chips 12.5 € in the summer house. A drink 7 €, wines starting from 14 € bottle, main courses in the restaurant 25-30 €, ironing/washing a shirt 9 €, pay TV 12.5 €/ channel. Taxi to the centre of the city app. 5 €. A taxi to the airport 12-15 € (beware of "tourist" prices, some one paid 30 €). The rack price was high, but obviously our travelling agency had a good deal (less than one third of the rack price). Go and enjoy!
The Best hotel ever!
My fiance and I stayed at the Pestana last summer (Aug '05) and are STILL thinking about how fabulous it was! It's by FAR the most beautiful, luxurious hotel we've ever been to, and we travel A LOT. The staff was unbelievably accomodating and gracious, the breakfast buffet was so tasty I looked forward to it the minute we woke up, and the pool and grounds were immaculate. A few tips: take a cab! My fiance insisted on taking the tram/ metro to and from the hotel and it turned out to be a great waste of time and energy. We realized too late that a cab, which the concierge will call for you, would have been about the same price as hiking to the tram and waiting FOREVER. Also, the hotel has shuttle transport for free that's very reliable, so certainly use that accomodation. Overall, WE CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!!
relaxing, peaceful, perfect
I have stayed at The Pestana Palace in Lisbon three times. I have also stayed in Lisbon central area a few times. Pestana Palace is not in central Lisbon but the (cheap) taxi ride (all Portugal taxi's are cheap) is well worth it. I am on the road across Europe 150 nights a year. this is one of my favorites. This is like staying at a Palace (it was), beautiful gardens, outdoor pool, outdoor cabana with food, gym, ... When I am in Lisbon on business I skip the Ritz and head straight for 160 E a night garden room at Pestana. The surrounding area is residential and I love to walk but the gardens, aviary, and old part fo the palace are terrific. the restaurant is one of the best in Lisbon so if you book here make a dinner reservation for 1 of the nights (when you book the room!). Breakfast in the ballroom of the palace should not be missed even if you are a coffee only brreakfast person
Great spot
Myself and my husband spent a very relaxing week at this hotel at the end of July. We booked through the hotel's website and paid €140 per night for a room with a city view. It was a bit noisy at night as we wanted to leave the window open so we switched to a garden view room for the second half of the week at a rate of €160. We had thought that the hotel's location outside the city centre might be a little awkward but this did not pose a problem as there is a tram line that runs past the back of the hotel and the average taxi fare is just €5 to the centre. The hotel also run a shuttle bus to various parts of the city about four or five times a day. The breakfast buffet was lovely with a choice of seating either indoors in the splendid dining rooms or outside overlooking the gardens (though this area is in shade in the mornings). We dined at the hotel restaurant, Valle Flor, one evening and were a little disappointed with the female maître d' and also found the food to be a bit heavy. It worked out at about €60 a head which is expensive by Lisbon standards and possibly not worth it. Lunch at the garden pavilion however was very pleasant as were tapas in the bar at night in the company of the hotel pianist. All of the leisure facilities are great and we especially enjoyed chilling out by the outdoor pool, caipirinha in hand..... we'll be back.
Very good beautiful hotel!
When arriving at the hotel we were very pleasantly suprised by the beautiful gardens and very nice staff. The pool in the middle of the garden is very nice as well. Our room had a little terras with a little private garden. Breakfast was very good (lots of fruit), people were very kind, the only thing was the restaurant which was pricey and the food was so and so. Lissabon was ok but we liked the neighbouring cities like Estoril and Cascais better. All and all it was a perfect 5 days!!
Wonderful!!
This was a perfect place to stay in Lisbon. Just a few minutes taxi ride from the centre of Lisbon (a few euros only), it offered beautiful grounds, gardens and a lovely pool area. Just perfect to unwind by the pool after a hard day sightseeing. The welcome was very warm and perfect English spoken. We even made a booking error on-line which they corrected and changed our room with-in ten minutes wtih a minumum of fuss. Highly recommended.
