Ekavis Suites include both studios and apartments. We stayed in an apartment which was basic, but clean. Ekavis has its own bar that opens from 6pm each night and a little mini-market that is no more expensive than surrounding supermarkets. It’s a good location, only 5 mins from the sea...down a very short, 'undemanding' hill. On the way to the sea you pass a cemetery (a nicely kept one!) and a vineyard.
The location of Ekavis is nice if you want a low key holiday. Everything you need is on your doorstep but without all the hustle and bustle of neighbouring Plantanias. The beach is long and sandy with lots of trees for shade.
The suites are close to a busy main road and there is a lot of traffic noise, but you do get used to it. It is good for buses though...you can get a bus to Chania town for just over 1 euro and from the bus station there, you can go just about anywhere in Crete....buses are cheap and very modern; much safer than driving.

We have stayed here a number of times and have always had a good time. We have had very good accommodation there and enjoyed the wonderful views from the balcony and the swimming pool and snack bar are a lovely respite from the busy beach, just 5 mins across the road.
The hill is a bit of a challenge on the way up in the heat after shopping at the supermarket at the bottom so would not recommend it for anyone who has walking problems (not Mt Everest but a hill none the less - in our experience its best to take it slow!). Agia Marina village is great for restaurants two in particular, the Eletri and Horiatiko's, both very near each other. Both offer brilliant home made, original Greek food and the hospitality is next to none!
Ag. Marina is a good base to stay for Chania and Western Crete. Ekavis is on the main bus route (bus stop at the bottom of the hill and buses are very frequent and cheap, you can go straight to the central bus station in Chania (pick up point too), follow the crowds and they will take you to the beautiful harbour for fantastic gift shops and restaurants.
If your flight is later and you have to be out of your room they are happy for you to leave your luggage in the reception area, which is very safe. There is a small shower room too that you can use on request. We didn’t have air con but fans are available for a fee. The last time we visited we were a bit disappointed with our studio as it was so dark and too near the thoroughfare. We just mentioned it to the owners Stavros and Dina and hey presto we were moved to accommodation in the new block. Fantastic! If they can they will happily oblige and look after you.
Stavros makes his own retsina from the grape vines hanging by the pool and he might on occasion share a glass with you if you watch the TV with him. They are cat lovers though! Whenever we have been there they have had a number of kittens running around. They are very cute if you like cats! Unlike the majority of the cats in Crete these are very well looked after and fed regularly.
Can’t wait to go back!
