Punta Negra Hotel Reviews

5 / 10
Apr 2007, Ms D Ling

The hotel just does not live up to 4* expectations as far as we were concerned. We had paid extra for a sea view room and were glad that we had as other rooms overlooked the hotel car park and busy road. The room was clean if basic without tea making facilities or even hair... more

Not as good as expected
We stayed at the hotel 04.-.07.09., and we were a bit disappointed. We had stayed at the lovely Hotel Stelle Marine in Cannigione four nights prior to this, and had high expectations for Punta Negra. The pictures on the website were so promising, but our room was not what we expected. We payed for sea view, but as we were given a room at bottom floor with shrubbery in front of the terrace, we in fact didn't have much of a view. The room itself was not especially nice, and the bathroom was dark and I found spiders in the shower. Water from the shower leaked out into the other room. Our room was next to the terrace, and we had to stay awake until the music shut down at Midnight. Breakfast was lousy, just one type of bread, two cereals and a lot of cakes. I have had OK continental breakfasts selveral places in Italy, but this was not a good one. And when we checked out, the hotel charged us for 60 EUR more than agreed! Alghero is nice, Fertilia is quite boring. The nearest restaurant to the hotel has very good pizzas! We were not impressed by the food on Sardinia, pizza was the best thing we ate.
Hotel Punta Negra Alghero: Exellent
My husband and I honeymooned at Hotel Punta Negra Alghero Aug 21-28th, and it was the most wonderful vacation we have ever been on. We chose this location after reading many reviews like this, and searching through many travel magazines We love to travel, and this was my fist time in Sardegna. The staff were very friendly, helpful and caring and the facilities including private beach and swimming pool were just perfect. The breakfast and dinner was very tasty and we wished we had stayed there longer. Food wos very good. We would happily stay there again.
We'll be back
Great hotel right on the beach. Rooms are cleaned daily, with fresh linnen and towles. Nothing is too much for any of the staff, who are all very professional. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and geared entirially towards your comfort and happiness. The food was plentifull and lovely (remember again that you are in Italy, not GB). The car hire was a bit pricey, but airport hire cars were quite reasonable. The old town of Alghero is lovely, especialy of a night time, try one of the restaurants on the bastilion. What we saw of the surrounding area was not very pretty, a bit desolate and scruffy. Deffinitely coming back to Punta negra.
Beautiful location...average hotel
I have to say, i was a little bit disappointed with the accommodation here. The photos on the website looked fantastic, and dont get me wrong...the scenary/beach and local area were exactly as it looked in the photos. The hotel itself is pretty average, more of a 3 star looking place. The air con here is weak, and the furnishing are getting a bit on the worn out side. But other than that, everything was superb. The hotel staff were fantastic, we arrived after 10.30pm and all the restaurants in the area were closed, so the barman made us some toasted sandwiches and threw in some mini pizzas. He knew we were hungry! The beach chairs and towels on their own private beach is free to use, and a taxi ride into Alghero town is about 20euros. Sunset in Sardinia is absolutely beautiful, make sure you get out there and take a few pics. Locals are extremely friendly and the local seafood is fabulous. Head down to Sardinia in the summer, even if its for a weekend. You will definitely want to go back!
A little bit of Heaven !
I was really worried about staying at this hotel - but all my worries floated out of the window when we saw the perfect view across the beautiful bay looking towards the town of Alghero. I had booked a cheap flight and was struggling finding accommodation to match the dates with hotel located in or near the town centre. We were only staying 4 nights. We arrived at the hotel (after paying 20 euros for a 5 min taxi ride from the airport!) at 10.15 am and was shown to our room. This amazed me as you usually cannot check into a hotel until 2.00pm. The room was at the rear of the hotel and looking over a huge air conditioning unit, although it did have a large balcony that you could have held a dinner dance on! I asked if there were any other rooms available with a possible sea view. The very kind receptionist said there was one available but it may not be cleaned yet and there would be an extra cost of 40 euros per night. She made some enquiries and said the room was now fully cleaned and would we like to see it? The room looked much like the other, clean and spacious, spotlessly clean bathroom with all the toiletries you could wish but when she opened the balcony doors and we saw the view - WOW ! This was definitely worth the extra euros. There are no hairdryers provided, so do remember to take one with you. We had a wander around the hotel, the pool (saltwater) and surrounding areas were very clean and all the staff were very friendly. The little beach was gorgeous, the hotel guests are provided with free sun lounges, free umbrella and free towels! Later in the evening we walked the 10 minutes to Fertilia with the intention of finding a nice little restaurant. We were disappointed, as everywhere looked shabby or was having building work carried out to it, so we decided to walk back to the hotel for a meal. The evening meal was 'nothing to write home about' but it was edible and we were tired. Breakfasts were simple in continental style with cheeses, ham, cereals, croissants, bread rolls (hard) and lots of Sardinian sweet cakes or pastries. It would have been nice to have had more varieties of fruit available and some softer rolls. I think the meals were the only complaints we had with the hotel even if they were only minor moans! The bar serves snacks at lunch time and we had lovely food then. The hotel offer a free shuttle service to the town of Alghero 3 times a day (although not on saturdays or sundays). We took advantage of this service and quickly learned to be in reception at least 20 minutes before the bus was due as it would only seat 9 people! The town of Alghero is beautiful and more so in the evening. It comes alive in the evening with hundreds of people wandering around the old town. There are lots of shops (mainly jewellery selling coral and turqouise) but most stay open until 12.00 o'clock at night !!! We felt very safe and not threatened by all the youngsters who seem to meet up just for a chat with each other. Take the little train if you can, it costs about 3 euros each and takes you all around the old part of Alghero. It is not easy finding places to change travellers cheques or currency and I changed sterling via the hotel manager at a (hefty cost) but I had no other choice. I shall take more euros next time. We had a lovely meal at Mirador (up on the old walls) - get a table upstairs if you can - the view is fantastic. We also had a meal at Le Lepanto which was entertaining. There is a huge fish tank with different varieties of fish and lobsters quietly passing the time of day and minding their own business, until someone bounds out of the kitchen with a huge net and catches the latest order! I began to feel very sorry for these poor seafood creatures and not being a seafood fan, having to sit watching my husband devour his extremely fresh lobster! The food was good but a little pricey if you were having lobster but otherwise reasonably priced and air conditioning would have been nice in the restaurant. We found house wines were very nice, especially the Rose. We hired a Smart Car from the hotel for two days and drove up to the beautiful beach of Stintino. What stunning colours the sea displayed. Another day we drove down the coastal road to Bosa. Not a lot going on in Bosa and lots of building work needs doing which is a shame as the town sits on a lovely river. I did consider becoming a property developer at this point. It is worth the trip (about 40 miles) just for the scenic drive. All in all, Alghero is a wonderful place particularly for a 4/5 night short break. I was looking through a magazine a couple of days ago reading an article about Alghero, the photos did not do it justice and I would not have booked this place if I had seen the magazine. We would definitely go back to the area and certainly stay at the same hotel with a sea view. It is a lovely place to recharge your batteries from the stresses of everyday living and the bonus was not one mosquito or creepy crawly in sight! Final moan.... Be Warned! Alghero airport does not have duty free goods as we know it and there is no cafe or restaurant. The only food and drinks that are available are from 2 vending machines which sells bottles of water and cans as well as the usual chocolate bars. So take supplies with you! Pity I can’t download my photos – for some reason there are errors but see the hotel website for photos. I will email them to anyone who requests.
Good hotel especially if sea view room
Stayed at the Punta Negra in the middle of May for four days. Swimming pool very nice and clean with a good deep end. Comfortable loungers although they close pool 1.30 to 3.00 which was a nonesense as they just put a chain across and everyone just walked over it. Guess it was just because the attendants were not there, but they didn't stop you coming or try to make you leave - just as well as there would probably have been a riot - started by me. Food is not very good though. We only had one meal there and it was cold and mediocre. Breakfasts are still back in the days of slices of cheese and ham with rolls, but if you are into cakes etc, then there was plenty. However, there is a fantastic restaurant within about 5 - 10 minutes walk in the nearest village. Just go outside the backdoor of the hotel, past the tennis court and go towards the village with the flats on the right and a youth hostel type place on the left. Can't remember the name of the restaurant but it begins with a P and has a fantastic range of pizzas, seafood and the steak is wonderful. Very good value too. If you want to hire a car (as we had to due to a couple of days cold weather) book a Smartcar from the hotel. Reasonable value and good fun. You can get a bus to Alghero from the village square (timetable at reception) but if you miss it then it takes about 1 hr 20 mins to walk it. Don't forget the shops shut between 1.00 and either 4 or 5.
Hotel Punta Negra is great
However, the standard of service provided by all the staff at Hotel Punta Negra can't be faulted; nothing is too much trouble and each of our requests was attended to instantly and efficiently by the friendly reception staff. The maid service was superb; standards were very high and every evening we found our room absolutely immaculate with abundant fresh towels. The food is absolutely delicious. The pool was well-maintained and clean with a good depth. We stayed on our last 3 nights of two weeks in Italy in the wonderful Hotel Punta Negra. We truly saved the best to last. The staff were excellent, always helpful in recommending restaurants and we didn't go wrong once. Rooms were faultless and breakfast to be looked forward to. We will be going back!! I would definitely recommend Hotel Alpha for the high standards of customer service, delicious meals and quiet but convenient location.
The most beautifully located hotel
We stayed here for 8 nights in June 2004. The rooms were great compared to the rest of Italy. The staff was very attentive. The breakfast was fantastic and the bar in the evening was quiet, peaceful, fun hotel! I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as the ideal relaxation holiday.
A wonderful place to stay
Everything about Hotel Punta Negra was fantastic. It was exactly the vacation we (2 couples) wanted - hot, relaxing, great food and wine, a resort type hotel, laying poolside, and a lot of swimming in the sea. We stayed here for 8 days before heading over to Costa Smeralda for another week. I recommend the Hotel Punta Negra to everyone I know, it is great for a quiet get- a-way for a couple, but also works for families, especially in the summer, the pool is really spacious and well looked after. I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to anyone especially for either a family holiday or as a base for touring the local area.
Excellent Hotel
I stayed at this hotel in July, 2004. There is nothing I could find that was sub-optimal. From the minute you check in to the minute you check out, you are pampered and every last detail is taken care of. The rooms were very comfortable, large, had a marble bathroom and had a beautiful view of the beach and water. Restaurants served great food. Would go back in a heartbeat. Very child friendly.
