Punta Negra Hotel

The hotel just does not live up to 4* expectations as far as we were concerned. We had paid extra for a sea view room and were glad that we had as other rooms overlooked the hotel car park and busy road. The room was clean if basic without tea making facilities or even hair dryer.
Breakfast was just 'Ok' but the majority of food on offer was the pastries from previous night's dinner. Staff (except the lovely barman) were surly and offhand; we waited to be seated one morning and were ignored for a good few minutes so seated ourselves. Immediately then the old waiter came over and said 'you can not sit. I will let you sit' and promptly moved us! Keen for a quiet life we ignored it but in retrospect it's really not on to be treated so rudely by anyone never mind staff at a supposed 4* hotel.
The hotel is a good 10 minute taxi ride from Alghero and so it became quite expensive to travel in but the hotel being so isolated there was really no choice. They advertise a free bus but we were told that it runs only in High season so taxis were essential. Fertilia the tiny hamlet about half a mile or so away does have a small pizzeria but nothing else.
Alghero is lovely though and very interesting with lots of gorgeous restaurants, bars, alleyways through the old town to discover.
