We have been to Pythagorion before and love the resort and the people.
We were therefore very surprised at the standard of accommodation/service and attitude at the Kastelli Hotel. We had torn sheets on the bed and dirty towels and the bathroom was not cleaned before our arrival. there was also broken glass on a shelf in the wardrobe. Neither the radio nor one of the lights worked in the room. We were expecting and would have been happy with basic accommodation, but also expected it to be clean and in working order.
We were very polite when we asked for replacement sheets and for the bathroom to be cleaned and glass cleared, but the management were resentful and rude in response. Whenever we saw them after highlighting out concerns they were very unfriendly. We were determined we would not let the hotel and its attitude spoil our holiday so spent as little time there as possible.
We therefore only went to the hotel to sleep and shower and whilst we loved the resort we would strongly recommend against that particular hotel, which sadly is the exception to the otherwise very friendly and welcoming atmosphere on the island.

The Kastelli hotel is on a hillside with good views but as the brochure says it is not suitable to anyone with walking difficulties. It was not a problem to us. It situated only a short distance downhill to the seafront and Tavernas. There is a small swimming pool here, a bar and the rooms, which re reasonably equipped and kept clean are average for Greece. We found the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very limited and basic. Pythagorion has not got the greatest of beaches but has a wonderful and sitting round with a drink watching the big yachts come and go is a lovely past time. There is a selection of bars in the evening but nothing too lively or outrageous. and choice of Tavernas but if on a budget avoid the ones around the harbour, which are nice but a little more expensive. Overall far more good points than bad ones.

We stayed at the Kastelli hotel in September 2006 for 2 weeks.
The hotel was beautiful couldn’t fault anything, rooms were spacious very tastefully decorated, rooms were cleaned every day along with sheets changed and towels.
Staff very helpful and polite. Restaurant was very limited to the menu which never changed and was quite pricey as were the drinks (5 euros for a half beer) but this was not a problem.
Within a 3 minute walk you had Kamari centre with plenty of tavernas, and a creperie and other snacks, also there are a few supermarkets which sell all you need.
And another 1 minute from centre you have the main beach promenade which is lined with tavernas and restaurants, plenty of the usual gift shops too.
Beach was lovely plenty of umbrellas and sun beds.
Would recommend Santorini to everyone, could go on for ever writing about it!
We are going back this September 2007.
