We had our wedding reception at the end of May 2007 at the Tramontano and it was absolutely superb. The location was breathtaking, to start we had drinks (prosecco) on the balcony and in the lounge overlooking the bay of Naples followed by the wedding breakfast in the main restaurant, again overlooking the bay (approx 30 guests in total). The choice of menu was very varied and not at all prescriptive taking into account people's preferences (fish, meat, vegetarian). The food and wine was excellent, along with the service and attitude of the staff, capped off with a beautiful sunset. From our tables we could see up the coast and the liners anchored in the bay. We only stayed the one night because we wanted to keep the reception and wedding night separate from our own hotel. We were given a luxury suite at a significant reduction in price, which was a lovely gesture from the manager and the suite had two bathrooms, a lounge, dining area and a mezzanine level. The hotel also allowed the bride and bridesmaids to use the hotel facilities prior to the ceremony at no extra cost (i.e a separate room)
It was the best day of my life and one that will stay with us both forever. The hotel manager, Luigi was so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I would have no hestitation recommending this hotel either for a holiday or for a wedding reception.

This was our fifth visit to Sorrento and it won't be our last. It was however our first and last visit to the Tamontano. What a letdown!
We booked the Tramontano as part of our 25th Anniversary treat, as we wanted a quality hotel in a quiet part of town, but handily placed for shops and bars etc.
LOCATION - PERFECT - the hotel is probably the best located hotel in Sorrento. Right between the two main viewpoints and a few yards from the streets leading to the bars and restaurants of the town. We knew this before we booked and in that respect it didn't disappoint.
PUBLIC ROOMS - VERY GOOD - not the best we've stayed in but very nice and no complaints.
BREAKFAST - we booked B & B so we could eat out, so can only comment on the food at breakfast time. Good choice for breakfast, something to suit most tastes every day. Coffee not the best but just about drinkable. Perhaps a little more fresh fruit rather than bottled or tinned would have been better, but there was plenty of fresh fruit on offer. Staff in the breakfast room were very good and the views across the Bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius was superb.
STAFF - On the whole, Hotel staff were very good apart from one very grumpy pompous fellow behind the reception desk. I could easily have fallen out with him - ill mannered for no reason.
ROOM - BUT and it’s a big BUT - the Hotel badly lets itself down with the room we were allocated. Room 338, overlooking part of the town. The view was not a problem, we knew where the Hotel was located so knew what we were likely to be able to see. The room however, was extremely small and shabby. It was a single room which they had managed to cram two beds into, leaving approx 18 inch clearance between the beds and walls. The furniture in the room was shabby - not jaded opulence, it was shabby! The general room decor was grubby and in need of refreshing. There was black mould on some of the bathroom tiles, a crack in the toilet pedestal and paint bubbling from the bathroom wall. No extractor fan in the bathroom either.
Not enough space in the room for two peoples clothes and no where to put the suitcases which spent the week propped behind the solitary chair in the room. We had a balcony, but it looked like it had not seen a coat of paint for several years, with the balcony doors peeling down to the wood in many places. There was plaster missing from the balcony walls and the walls themselves were badly in need of repairing and repainting.
This was barely a three star room, however we had paid four or five star prices for the privilege.
Despite E Mailing the Hotel and advising them this was our 25th wedding anniversary holiday, we were placed in probably one of the worst rooms in the Hotel - a standard room it was described as. Thompsons promises a free bottle of bubbly to guests celebrating their anniversary - We never even received as much as a happy anniversary comment from any of the staff.
I'm sure there are nice rooms in the Tramontano, but this was not one of them - the trouble is, Thompsons still claw the same amount of money from you whatever the room is like.
Despite feeling very let down by the room quality and Thompsons, we just got on and enjoyed our week in Sorrento and still managed to have a good time. Sorrento again? Definitely - Tramontano again? Definitely NOT - Thompsons again? The more I travel with Thompsons, the more I don't want to next time.

Brilliant hotel. Loved the view over the gardens, all lit up at night. We had a fabulous room with huge balcony.
Hotel in central position to town, and both Marina Grande and Marina Piccolo. All staff wonderful, helpful and friendly. Agree juice at breakfast disappointing, but that is the only negative comment, as food at breakfast was excellent. Wonderful gardens and public rooms, altogether the best hotel I have stayed in Europe!

I agree with other reviews that the hotel is superbly situated and that the staff are excellent.
However we also had a problem with our room. We had paid extra for a sea view but were given a small dark attic room with a very low ceiling which did not meet our expectations. It was supposed to have cot space but there was no way you could get one in. Fortunately we managed to get a much better room after two days and from then on we were satisfied. Attic rooms are not equivalent to the rest of the hotel and should never be given to guests.
There was a sea view of sorts but the window was not much bigger than a picture frame.
If you book this hotel make sure you are not given a fourth floor room.

We were so impressed with Tramontano that we've postponed our Scottish wedding so we can have it next year at Tramontano instead.
The staff couldn't have been more friendly yet totally professional at the same time. The accommodation is opulent but not overbearing, the views are breathtaking and the location is perfect, whether you simply want to relax or to have an active holiday.
Our holiday itself was idyllic, but communication with Thomson beforehand was impossible. I spent three days on the phone trying to change dates. When finally I'd achieved this, I received a letter telling me my holiday was cancelled!
It took Thomson two days just to get round their crazy system that wouldn't allow us to book our son into his own room!
Despite these challenges set by the tour operator, Tramontano is so wonderful I have to give our holiday maximum marks. Go to Tramontano!

Top class hotel, ideally situated right on Bay of Naples with superb views from terraces. Hotel has its own lift to take guests down the cliff to the spacious lidos. Hotel also situated beside main shopping areas, public gardens, church etc.
Hotel staff from cleaners, waiters to dining staff and management couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful. Excellent accommodation and food.
Hotel has lovely mature gardens where many brides come to be photographed. Pool side bar, restaurant - excellent and great service. Only complaint, pool could be bigger!

Very good holiday in excellent hotel. The hotel is very centrally placed and has fabulous views over the Bay of Naples.
The food in the hotel was excellent with very extensive breakfast buffet, we also ate dinner one night in the hotel and it was very pleasant.
Thomson were very good generally. Only gripe would be with delays at Naples airport.

We stayed at this Hotel for our honeymoon. Although Thomson’s made a huge mistake and did not give us the room with a view that we asked for, this hotel is wonderful. The manager did all he could to move us, but to know avail, unfortunately. So we are not pleased with Thomson’s as we paid for it and double checked with them beforehand. Our booking form with the manager said 'cot space!!' Obviously not needed for a honeymoon!
The service is brilliant, very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Especially the Maitre 'd and his staff in the restaurant.
The meals were fantastic! Four courses, Italian food but English if you know what I mean!! I have read on other sites that people complain that the orange juice at breakfast, is not fresh orange. This is true, but I would not hold it against them or complain, as everything else at breakfast was brilliant and so much to choose from, cooked food and continental.
The hotel is gorgeous and exquisite. It is in prime location right near the drains (shops) of Sorrento. Also next to beach platforms and the harbour, to be able to get boats to Islands like Capri and Ischia. Well worth visiting and the Mineral spa’s especially, at Ischia.
The Hotel has a pool and outside restaurant too. Our room, although quite small and dark, was lovely and clean, changed bedclothes and towels every day. A fridge and a safe, shower and bath and bidet.
We found Sorrento to be very good and felt 'safe.' Good people and a lot to do, if you like shops and good restaurants!
We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back to this Hotel and Italy.

My Girlfriend and I stayed at the Tramontano for one week in early May 2005.
Most reviews of the Tramontano are good but one or two are bad. Now I know why. The main plus point of the hotel is the view out into the bay. Which is stunning! However if you get a room facing the gardens of the hotel you lose this benefit. Breakfast was disappointing with squash instead of fresh juices (consider the garden was overflowing with oranges, apples and melons).
Also if you like to drink good coffee Sorrento and Italy is a great place to drink it. Unfortunately the Tramontano seemed unable to make even a half decent cup of coffee (instead go into town to the bar Erculano). One morning I was asked by a waiter why I had left my espresso, I replied that it was not very good and tasted burnt, he shrugged, said sorry, and that they always were and to get coffee in town.
We did have a problem with the room. The shower glass leaked badly upon arrival and after 5 visits to reception a new part was fitted. It still leaked on departure. (Whoever gets room 344 ask for a new room or extra towels for the floor.) I still would recommend this hotel to stay in but only if you get a room with a balcony overlooking the bay.
For the view you can forgive the failings of the hotel. If you don’t have the view then you will probably be disappointed. I will return to Sorrento but not at the Tramontano.

Hotel is small and it works. The staff work well, give chat they appreciate it, makes you holiday better too. Pool is standard for the size of hotel & very often you can have it to yourself. If you wish to go to the lake its just a couple of minutes away. Bardilino is a stroll along the flat promonade can take over 1hr, there are plenty seats on the lake once nearer Bardilono. You can always take the ferry back cheap at 2 euros, lovely views of the coast but if you want to take photos make sure you're at the front of the queue. Ticket desk in Bardilino open approx 10 mins before ferry due. My husband & I would definately go back to this hotel. Friendly staff, customers, enough good food ( buffet breakfast and 3 course dinner ) we were never hungry. All in all a wonderful holiday.
