Grand Vesuvio Hotel Reviews
" The hotel from the front entrance and... "
Submitted By: Mrs S Logan
The hotel from the front entrance and first floor bar has beautiful views over the countryside and sea; the public areas are large, spacious and comfortable and the pool is large and clean with lots of sunbeds around the pool and gardens. There are no beaches nearby.
Our room was a good size and clean however the view was over an unattractive backyard but it was quiet apart from the generator.
The dining room is very large with a huge variety of tables to suit every party so it isn't a problem if you are a couple or a huge family to sit together.
Breakfast consists of every variety of tinned fruit imaginable but the only fresh fruit available is apples; the cheese is processed as is the cold meat. The only hot item available is scrambled eggs. On the whole very disappointing for a four star hotel.
Dinner in the evening is waiter served and very fast - usually over in less than 20 minutes. Again the food is tinned or frozen. Pureed potatoes turned out to be instant Smash, seasonal vegetables were carrots or tinned peas. Salmon rissotto was pink rice with no fish content at all.
The only good meal is the buffet which happened once during the week.
Very disappointing food for a four star hotel and if you like food don't choose this hotel
However the restaurant at the foot of the hill leading to the hotel is very good, with fresh food, well cooked and presented and cheap.
Try the ice-cream - delicious everywhere with a huge variety of flavours (except the hotel where you are not given a choice but presented with whatever is available)
Sorrento has lots of interest and a huge amount and variety of shops and restaurants.
The hotel bus is free and runs every hour with the last one leaving Sorrento at 11.15pm
Lots to see in and around Sorrento and the sights are well worth while so whilst I am pleased we went I would not return and one week was enough.

My family and I have just returned from a 1 week stay in the Hotel Grand Vesuvio in Sorrento and wished we'd been staying longer.
The service and ambience of the hotel exceeded our expectations. The head waiter Nino cetrtainly made us feel more than welcome , he knew everyone and was friendly and helpful over and beyond the call if the duty.
The service was fantastic and the cleanliness of the the very comfortable rooms was exceptional.
The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to and from the town of Sorrento which is jsut over 2 km's away. This bus is very reliable and frequent. The town of Sorrento is wonderful with a variety of shops - all the shop keepers are so friendly - the place comes alive in the evening. There are a variety of bars and restaurants ,but it is not lively in the sense of night clubs and noisy 'english' type pubs (thank goodness).
All in all it's a great holiday for couples of all ages or families with pre teenage children.
We're defintiely going back - we can't wait.

My family and I have visited Sorrento, staying at the Hotel Grand Vesuvio on 3 occasions, the fourth commencing tomorrow and I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the splendid hotel each time, hence our return. The atmosphere is superb and the staff are so friendly and welcoming.
I have absolutely no negative comments to make about the hotel or the area in which it is situated.
A wonderful holiday for all ages, Sorrento offers a very picturesque and typical Italian setting which provides fine Italian cuisine, plenty of activities or relaxing surroundings. A favourite of mine forever, I'm sure!

We have just returned from two weeks at The Grand Hotel Vesuvio, this was our first trip to Italy and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
The hotel itself is a little out of the main town of Sorrento, which we loved. As we could enjoy the peace and quiet during the day and then just hopped onto the hotels courtesy bus to go into the town area on the evening, which is when Sorrento really comes to life.
The hotels courtesy bus runs throughout the day. It’s just a 5 minute ride with very polite drivers.
The reception area is huge and magnificent. There’s a large seating area at the front of it, which makes for a lovely cool place to sit whilst you are waiting for your trip bus or courtesy bus to arrive.
There are three lifts from the reception area, which cover all four floors (the sun terrace is on the 5th floor which can be reached by a short flight of stairs from the fourth floor), and then there is a separate lift that takes you to the pool area.
The guest rooms are furnished to a high standard, are very spacious and clean. We upgraded our room to a sea view (fourth floor room 445), but our room consisted of a double mirror fronted wardrobe which also housed a set of drawers and a small safe, a wonderfully comfortable king size bed, a large dressing table with mirror, a smaller set or drawers, a stocked mini bar and remote controlled TV. The only English cannel was CNN but you could also watch Euro Sport with Italian commentary if you desired. The bathroom consists of a bath with a shower over it, sink, toilet, bidet and hair dryer. This was also very well lit and had a large mirror perfect for doing your make up in. The air-conditioning was excellent and you could adjust the setting or turn it off on the control panel on the wall. Our balcony wasn’t as large as some of the ones with pool views but it was plenty big enough for the two of us and housed a small table and two chairs. I must say that the view was amazing!! We had a clear view of Vesuvius, which was wonderful both day and night.
The restaurant area is also very grand, with staff a plenty to ensure that you enjoy your meal. Breakfast consisted of the usual continental fair, ham, cheese and croissants. But there was also a selection of sweet and savoury breads, toast, scrambled eggs, fruit (tinned) and yoghurt.
Dinner was an offering of at least four starters and four main courses. The pasta starters were amazing, always cooked to perfection. I’m a very picky eater so there were times when I didn’t really fancy any of the main courses (I don’t eat any vegetables or fish), so I just opted for two starters instead. Nothing was too much trouble; they would even cook something for you specially if you requested it. This would then be followed by a selection of desserts, which included things like tiramisu, caramel or you could opt for ice cream or fresh fruit.
Sunday evening is buffet night, the only night of the week when you don’t get the full waiter service. The buffet was actually the highlight food-wise of my week. There were many different offerings such as melon with parma ham, an amazing selection of salad items, a whole snapper and salmon, at least three pasta dishes, a joint of beef and a HUGE chicken freshly carved in front of you.
And just when you thought you couldn’t eat anymore, Friday evenings were Neapolitan night, which was a five-course meal and live music!
If you choose to buy a bottle of wine from the extensive winelist to enjoy during your evening meal but don’t finish it, they will cork it for you and keep it for the following evening.
Also if you wanted to eat out on an evening the same three-course dinner menu was available in the poolside café bar, but instead of the main course been served with fresh vegetables it would be served with a small portion of fries and salad.
This poolside restaurant was described in the hotel as a snack bar but I don’t think that name does it justice, set out wonderfully with views of the pool. The menu consists of pizza, omelettes, pasta, steak sandwiches, fish and salads. The snack bar prices for food weren’t too bad but we did think that the drinks within the hotel in general were a little pricey.
The waiters themselves can be a little cheesy but if you take the banter in the context that’s it’s meant, its just a little bit of fun.
The pool area is wonderful with free sun beds and umbrellas a plenty. There is a shallow pool for small children, a larger deep pool and even a poolside Jacuzzi.
There are two bar areas, one indoors which is amazing but unfortunately was really only open / occupied once during our stay and that was when we had a thunder storm. It has a huge open fireplace with lots of comfy seating and a grand piano. The outdoor terrace bar is at the front of the hotel so the views from here are amazing. Again its all waiter service, with small candle lit tables and live music every evening.
Overall I truly believe that you cant go wrong if you choose to stay at this hotel, the staff, the food, the setting are all perfect. We can’t wait to go back!

The food was of a high standard and the Sunday Buffet was a delight to behold!
However the most outstanding feature of this Hotel was the service, this was exceptional, pleasant caring Staff no matter what time of the day or night.
Truly one of the most welcoming Hotels in which we have stayed. Thank you Grand Vesuvio!
