" We stayed in this hotel for a week... "

We stayed in this hotel for a week and it was long enough for us, the food was very repetitive, the entertainment was only in french and it is not very child friendly if they are still in pushchairs. We have 2 small girls so 2 pushchairs and if it wasnt for the grandparents coming we would not have been able to do much as there is only one very small lift and a loads of steps to get anywhere. They initially put us in 2 rooms which were not actually in the hotel but a short walk up a steep hill which were dark and dingey and once the 2 pushchiars were in the room and the 2 cots we couldnt move. The bathroom was the size of baked been tin and not child freindly at all, we did go and complain straight away to try and accomadte for 2 small children but they were not very helpfull and said they could do nothing until 3 days into our holiday which meant unpacking and packing again. On the day we moved the manager finally spoke to us and said if he knew he would have done something that day (so obviously there were other rooms available). When we did get the new rooms they were part of the hotel and they were quite nice but i would say only a 3 star at a push. However the views you get from this hotel are amazing it would suit couples not familes.

" Just spent a week at this hotel and... "

Just spent a week at this hotel and believe me its enough. The food is excellent and the hotel itself is very nice with brilliant views.
But for us (and every British person we spoke to)the pictures of the hotel are misleading, the hotel is NOT on the beach, depending on where your room is you could be going down as much as 100 steps. The all inclusive is only available in certain area's of the hotel and is very limited to local whisky, vodka, gin, ouzo, rum, wine and beer, soft drinks were various.
The hotel is predomoninantly French, the entertainment is in French, call outs are in French even when they are trying to contact English speaking occupants.
The actual town of Agia Peligia is very smart, picturesque, quiet and the people are friendly.
I wouldnt recommend any British people to go to this hotel. Not one person we spoke to said they would return although we did have a fairly pleasant hloiday

" Overall we had mixed feelings about... "

Overall we had mixed feelings about this hotel. First impressions were good, nice location with great views. However we then went to our room which was in an annexe a short walk up from the main hotel building. The room was big but bare and dirty in places. The bathroom was the worst, there was a hole in the door, the shower and bath were old and mouldy. The shower head did not fit the attachment and there were no plugs! The terrace, although some nice views also looked on to a work site and the back of a shop/ restaurant whose noisy air conditioning was going all day. It did also occassionaly smell of sewage so we didn't use it much. The first night we also got covered in mosquito bites! When we asked to be moved our hotel rep (Med Hotels) acknowledged a problem with our block of rooms but said the hotel was full and we could not be moved. We later brought it up again with the unsympathetic and at times rude reception staff and eventually we moved to a different room in the main block. This was a much nicer room but could be noisy at times with big diesal buses parking outside keeping the engines running at all hours of the morning and sometimes the outdoor entertainment ran till quite late at night. However the good parts were the food, good quality (mediterranean food, italian and greek dishes) and plenty of it and the 2nd pool down at the edge of the peninsula was excellent. The wine and beer was good, plenty of wine at dinner and lunch but we did notice it harder to get soft drinks at meal times! Amazing views from the pool, restaurant and bar areas. The two beaches near by are very small and pebbly, mononafitis beach to the left is very busy with shops and bars the beach to the right was much prettier, quieter and good for swimming in the sea. There is a so called private beach but it is more of a concrete pontoon with a ladder into the sea but it is good for swimming and snorkling. The nearby town of agia pelaghia is a 15min walk but isn't much of anything. There are a lot of steps to everywhere in this hotel and it was sometimes a trek in the heat! The hotel is mainly visited by french and german people so the entertainment is in french but this didn't bother us. Most staff spoke good english. Annoyingly when we checked out they tried to charge us an extra that we had apparently ordered from the pool bar on our first day, when we insisted that we didn't we were just told 'somebody has to pay ' and that our taxi driver could wait while she found the receipt, which she never found so we didn't pay but it was not a nice ending to our stay. All in all there are a lot off good points to this hotel but some of the rooms and attitude of some of the staff let it down.

" We flew in from Agia Pelagia early... "

We flew in from Agia Pelagia early hours of sunday morning after a beautiful 10 days at the Peninsula Hotel. The hotel itself was beautiful, the views from everypart of the hotel were breathtaking and through out the 10 days I never got bored of them. The rooms were cleaned everyday, and the 2 pools were both kept clean along with the steps and sunbathing areas. The food was really good, the chef was obviously Italian but having said that it was the best pasta I have every tasted and there was plenty of choice for every meal, with a good flow of drinks if you required, the wine was drinkable and my partner seemed fine with the beer.
The only negative thing I can say if you have children it is not the best place to go, my 15 year old son was bored. All the entertainment and literature was completly in French, the staff were all fluent in French with some having trouble understanding us. During the 10 days we saw 2 english families with the same coments as us. I would not recommend children at this resort, the evening entertainment for the small children is solely in French as is the films, shows and even the bingo.
But not to end on a negative note I will be retuning to the hotel with my partner for a complete restful break in the near future.

" We have just returned from the... "

We have just returned from the Peninsula two days ago. The hotel was fabulous, the views from practically everywhere in the hotel were breathtaking. We stayed in a family room which was very large with 4 single beds, separate wardrobe area, small seating area, bathroom and balcony with seats. The rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day with a pile of fresh towels in the bathroom and clean, well made beds. The food was very nice, the chef is obviously Italian because there were more Italian dishes than Greek. Plenty to eat, food could do with being a little bit hotter. Lots of fish and lamb and wonderful desserts. We were expecting a German animation team (we have two Dutch speaking children) but as this fell outside of the German school holiday, there was no-one to be seen. However, there were a superb French animation team lead by Gabriel who worked very hard with all the guests to keep them busy and welcomed our children with open arms. They even kept the animation going for 5 more days just for our two kids despite all the french children having left. I would certainly recommend the Peninsula allthough I have to point out that the hotel is 80% used by the French, 15% by the Polish and we were the only Dutch couple there + one English couple. It just depends what you are looking for and if you don't mind mingling with other nationalities. This hotel is not recommended for people to have difficulty walking or a heart condition because there are many steps to go up and down and in the heat this can be quite exhausting.

" Just got back from staying at the... "

Just got back from staying at the Peninsula Hotel, Agia Pelagia in Crete. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Finding it proved interesting in the dark! Sprawling and perched on rocks, overlooks the sea - fab views.

Air conditioned room was good and clean. Hairdryer did not work and sheets were not changed.

Food was excellent most of the time, quite a variety including local cuisine, towards the end of the week not so varied (think chef may have had time off). Bread excellent. Food sometimes just warm or cold but there was a microwave.

Pool lovely, bar nearby. Salt water pool also but no bar staff. Lots of steps! Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Strict cut off for all inclusive drinks at 11.00 pm.

Very little entertainment and in French. Disco from 10.00 pm till 11.00 pm but music in the bar area after. Lots of parasols & sunbeds in nice areas. Shop on site.

Best bits: BBQ, bread, lamb dishes, Greek salad & feta cheese, doughnuts with nutella, pool, bar areas, clean, lovely views, and friendly staff.

We had to check out at 12 pm but still allowed to use the hotel facilities including the AI until we left at 8 pm. They also provided us with a room to freshen up.

NOTE: there is no internet access.

" Once we found it and access is... "

Once we found it and access is 'interesting' from the E75 National Road, we found a well maintained, clean and bright hotel.

Staff were friendly and always helpful.

The hotel comprises a range of rambling buildings on the cliff side; our room had aircon, satellite TV, the bathroom was clean and the room comfortable, and we were in the main building (over reception) which is presumably the oldest part of the complex!

Food, good variety of main courses. Ccanteen-style servery, labels to tell us what some of the dishes were would be welcomed. But plentiful range of salads and at least 5 main courses for dinner daily, ranging from Beef Bourginone, Moussaka, Squid, Mussels, Pork chops - and always a fish dish.

Hot or Continental breakfasts as you wish. Friendly staff, 'all inclusive' meant just that!

Bar drinks galore ... wine with the meals was unlimited! Location of the hotel, over the bay of Agia Pelagia was gorgeous!

Facilities were all as on the hotel website. No disappointments ... just a fantastic holiday and probably the best 'value for money holiday' I have had.

Highly recommended for a 'switch off' holiday ... but perhaps not so exciting for younger people, as the hotel is a little remote ... and this was not Benidorm! Having a hire car was a definite advantage!

" I was surprised at the overall size... "

I was surprised at the overall size of the hotel and how lovely and clean it all was. The staff were grate and there was a good selection of food available. The Pools were very clean and the surrounding gardens were well kept. There is a regular coach form the hotel into Heraklion and a local car hire service, just a short walk up the road. Both of the beaches available were kept very clean.

There are scuba lessons available and other activities for a small fee. The night entertainment was aimed at the French, but still enjoyable. The bar staff and waiters were efficient and friendly.

Overall The Peninsular Hotel has a homely feel about it, considering it's size but there are still areas available where you can just unwind for a while.

The apartments were fresh and had air-conditioning as standard. Each room also has a bathroom with a bath and shower. A fridge, kettle, cups etc are available in the room, for if you just want to have a nice cupper sat on the balcony.

Overall my husband and I really did have a wonderful time (then again it was our honeymoon!) and intend to go back again in the not to distant future.

Yours sincerely Mrs Julie Humphreys (Manchester).

" Do not use Libra Holidays!!!
... "

Do not use Libra Holidays!!!

Flights changed 2 days before departure. Flew from Stansted. However, because of change I had to pay £130 for one way taxi back from Gatwick because they refused to see the change as an inconvenience.

Hotel about 20 mins from airport, however be aware that this could take up to an hour or so if dropping off others on route by bus. Taxi recommended.

Very steep location for those who do not like heights and want to get to one of the two beaches. Be prepared to take on oxygen at the top of the climb!!!

We wondered why there were no reviews for this hotel previously? Probably because the majority of guests are French and so are the entertainment team!! Nightly entertainment was poor for a hotel of this rating. Yes, it was mostly in French!

Food in abundance, however it did not vary too much from day to day. As we only stayed a week it was fine, although others who were there before us were not too happy. All inclusive drinks until 1130 and this is strictly applied. One evening they even tried to take away the excess on the table!! Evenings dress casual, with carvery food buffet style.

For a quiet break it was ok, as most guests left the hotel during the day, leaving the pool to us!

Although the weather is fantastic and the hotel rooms have superb views, we would probably not go back due to Les Miserable French!!!
